Assessing impacts of different land use scenarios on water budget of Fuhe River,China using SWAT model

The Soil and Water Assessment Tool(SWAT)model was used to assess the impacts of different land use scenarios on hydrological processes in the Fuhe watershed in poyang Lake Basin,East China.A total of 12 model parameters were calibrated with observed monthly runoff data for 1982-1988 and validated for 1991-1998 for baseline *** baseline test results of R2 and Nash-Sutcliffe model efficiency(NSE)values ranged between 0.88 and 0.94 across the calibration and validation periods,indicating that SWAT accurately replicated the Fuhe watershed *** different land use scenarios were then simulated with the model,focusing on the impacts of land use change on the hydrology of the *** results of hypothetical scenario simulations revealed that surface runoff declined while groundwater recharge and evapotranspiration(ET)increased,as forest land,agriculture land and/or grassland areas increased,as well as when paddy field and urban areas *** results further showed that forest land has a higher capacity to conserve the water as compared to pasture *** results of the real scenario simulations revealed that urbanization is the strongest contributor to changes in surface runoff,water yield,and *** can be considered as a potential major environmental stressor controlling hydrological components.

Agave guiengola Gentry is an endemic plant from a very small locality in Oaxaca,*** conservation status is fragile and can rapidly *** of its scarcity,this agave has been used solely for ornamental purposes,but it could have other uses if more plants were *** vitro propagation by enhanced axillary sprouting from stem segments was attained using Murashige and Skoog Basal Medium(MS)as well as basal medium supplemented with cytokinins 6-Benzylaminopurine(BA)or 6-(γ,γ-Dimethylallylamino)purine(2ip).The best treatment for shoot induction in semisolid medium consisted in MS supplemented with 2 mg l^(–1) BA,obtaining a mean of 3.7 shoots per *** interesting responses were observed,such as nodular callus induction using combinations of BA and 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid(2,4-D);root induction without plant Growth Regulators(pGR);and generation of shoot *** clusters constituted an excellent explant for micropropagation in temporary immersion bioreactors,obtaining a propagation rate of 43 shoots per explant with 1 min immersion and 6 h immersion *** new plants rooted and survived the transfer to *** study developed an in vitro propagation scheme to produce individuals that can be used either for reforestation,economical purposes,or to carry out studies in this species to assess its full potential,avoiding exploitation from wild plants.

META-R(multi-environment trial analysis in R)is a suite of R scripts linked by a graphical user interface(GUI)designed in java *** objective of META-R is to accurately analyze multi-environment plant breeding trials(METs)by fitting mixed and fixed linear models from experimental designs such as the randomized complete block design(RCBD)and the alpha-lattice/lattice ***-R simultaneously estimates the best linear and unbiased estimators(BLUEs)and the best linear and unbiased predictors(BLUps).Additionally,it computes the variance-covariance parameters,as well as some statistical and genetic parameters such as the least significant difference(LSD)at 5%significance,the coefficient of variation in percentage(CV),the genetic variance,and the broad-sense *** parameters are very important in the selection of top performing genotypes in plant ***-R also computes the phenotypic and genetic correlations among environments and between traits,as well as their statistical *** genetic correlations between environments or traits can be visualized in a biplot graph or a tree diagram(dendrogram).Genetic correlations are very important for identifying environments with similar behavior or making indirect selection and identifying the most highly associated ***-R performs multi-environment analyses by using the residual maximum likelihood(REML)method;these analyses can be done by environment,across environments by grouping factors(stress conditions,nitrogen content,etc.)and across environments;the analyses across environments can be done with a pre-defined degree of heritability.

An Evolutionary Approach to the Delineation of Functional Areas Based on Travel-to-work Flows

This paper presents a new approach to the delineation of local labor markets based on evolutionary computation. The aim of the exercise is the division of a given territory into functional regions based on travel-to-work flows. Such regions are defined so that a high degree of inter-regional separation and of intra-regional integration in both cases in terms of commuting flows is guaranteed. Additional requirements include the absence of overlap between delineated regions and the exhaustive coverage of the whole territory. The procedure is based on the maximization of a fitness function that measures aggregate intra-region interaction under constraints of inter-region separation and minimum size. In the experimentation stage, two variations of the fitness function are used, and the process is also applied as a final stage for the optimization of the results from one of the most successful existing methods, which are used by the British authorities for the delineation of travel-to-work areas （TTWAs）. The empirical exercise is conducted using real data for a sufficiently large territory that is considered to be representative given the density and variety of travel-to-work patterns that it embraces. The paper includes the quantitative comparison with alternative traditional methods, the assessment of the performance of the set of operators which has been specifically designed to handle the regionalization problem and the evaluation of the convergence process. The robustness of the solutions, something crucial in a research and policy-making context, is also discussed in the paper.

Evaluation of a new nomogram for Ferrara ring segment implantation in keratoconus

AIM:To evaluate the short-term clinical outcomes of Ferrara rings in keratoconus using an optimized nomogram developed after several years of research and retrospective analysis of clinical ***:This prospective longitudinal non-comparative clinical trial evaluated 88 eyes of 88 patients(age 18-62 y)with keratoconus diagnosis from two Spanish *** ring segment(AjL Ophthalmic)implantation was performed in all cases,using the mechanical procedure in 25 eyes(28.4%)and a femtosecond laser-assisted procedure in 63 eyes(71.6%).The ring segments implanted in each case were selected using a new optimized nomogram that considered variables such as anterior corneal asphericity and astigmatism or the discrepancy among astigmatism and coma ***,refractive,corneal topographic,aberrometric,and pachymetric changes after surgery were evaluated during a 3-month ***:The implants induced a significant refractive change as well as an improvement in uncorrected(UDVA)and corrected distance visual acuity(CDVA;ppostoperative CDVA of 0.10 log MAR or better was achieved in 28.4%and 46.5%of eyes,*** eyes(2.3%)lost two or more lines of CDVA whereas a total of 53.5%of eyes gained lines of CDVA.A significant central anterior and posterior corneal flattening was induced(p≤0.003),with a significant reduction of anterior(pposterior corneal astigmatisms(p=0.048),and a change in anterior asphericity(pprimary coma(6 mm pupil)change was also statistically significant(preoperative 3.66±3.04μm vs postoperative 2.33±2.26μm,pplanted using the mechanical and femtosecond techniques(p≥0.101).CONCLUSION:The implantation of Ferrara rings based on the nomogram evaluated is safe and effective for promoting a visual rehabilitation in keratoconus,with a relevant control of primary coma aberration.

Twenty-four-hour movement guidelines during middle adolescence and their association with glucose outcomes and type 2 diabetes mellitus in adulthood

purpose:The aim of the present study was to determine the association between adherence to the 24-h movement guidelines during middle adolescence and glucose outcomes(glycated hemoglobin and fasting glucose)and type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)in adulthood,14 and 22 years ***:We analyzed data from apparently healthy adolescents aged 12-18 years who participated in WavesⅠandⅡ(1994-1996,n=14,738),WaveⅣ(2008-2009,n=8913),and Wave V(2016-2018,n=3457)of the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health(Add Health)in the United *** activity,screen time,and sleep duration were measured using questionnaires,and the 24-h guidelines were defined as:5 or more times moderate-to-vigorous physical activity per week,≤2 h per day of screen time,and 9-11 h of sleep for 12-13 years and 8-10 h for 14-17 *** and venous whole blood was collected and analyzed to determine glycated hemoglobin and fasting glucose for WavesⅣandⅤ,***:Only 2.1%of the adolescents met all the 3 guidelines,and 37.8%met none of *** both wavesⅣandⅤ,adolescents who met physical activity and screen time guidelines had lower odds of T2DM in adulthood than those who did not meet any of these guidelines(WaveⅣ;prevalence ratio(pR)=0.57,95%confidence interval(95%CI):0.21-0.89;Wave V:pR=0.43,95%CI:0.32-0.74).Only for Wave V did adolescents who met all 3 guidelines have lower odds of T2DM at follow-up compared with those who did not meet any of these guidelines(pR=0.47,95%CI:0.24-0.91).Also,for each increase in meeting one of the 24-h recommendations,the odds of T2DM decreased by 18%(pR=0.82,95%CI:0.61-0.99)and 15%(pR=0.85,95%CI:0.65-0.98)in adulthood for WavesⅣandⅤ,***:promoting all 24-h movement guidelines in adolescence,especially physical activity and screen time,is important for lowering the potential risk of T2DM in adulthood.

A novel porous and crystalline two-dimensional(2D)electrochemically active covalent organic framework(COF)based on ortho-quinone units has been prepared as an innovative approach towards the development of organic cathode materials with multiple redox sites as an efficient electrocatalyst for the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR).In contrast with most of the previously reported COFs as electrocatalysts for the ORR,the electrocatalytic application of this material towards ORR has been investigated without adding any metal or conductive supporting material and avoiding any additional carbonization ***,the electrochemical properties of the COF material have been compared with two analogue amorphous frameworks with similar chemical composition,which points out the important role of the enhanced crystallinity and porosity of the COF network in its superior performance as an electrocatalyst towards ORR.
