How the enhanced East Asian summer monsoon regulates total gross primary production in eastern China

Recognizing the relationship between gross primary production(GPP)and precipitation in eastern China,the East Asian Summer Monsoon(EASM)plays a crucial role in shaping GPP.Despite confirmation of the strong link between EASM and GPP,there remains a notable research gap in understanding the specific impact of the EASM on GPP in different regions of eastern China.Here we used simulations from Trends in Net Land-Atmosphere Carbon Exchanges(TRENDY)models from 1951 to 2010 and divided eastern China into five subregions for the study.We also used the New East Asian Summer Monsoon Index(NEWI)as a quantitative metric to distinguish between periods of strong and weak EASM.Building on this,this study aims to investigate the response of GPP in different subregions of eastern China.Regionally,under strengthened EASM years(1954,1957,1965,1969,1977,1980,1983,1987,1993 and 1998),East China experienced the most pronounced increase in GPP at 12±21(mean±1 sigma)gC m^(-2) mon^(-1) compared to the weak EASM years(1958,1961,1972,1973,1978,1981,1985,1994,1997 and 2004).In contrast,Southwest China showed a decline in GPP at-4±10 gC m^(-2) mon^(-1).Moreover,GPP also increased in Northeast and North China when EASM strengthened,while South China showed a decline in GPP.This indicated that GPP changed with monsoon intensity.According to the mechanism analysis,during strong EASM,there was intense moisture convergence through alterations in the atmospheric circulation field over East China and abundant precipitation,which further contributed to the increase in GPP.Downward solar radiation in Southwest China decreased with EASM enhancement,which suppressed GPP and hindered vegetation growth.Overall,the results highlight the importance of accurately predicting the impact of different EASM intensities of regional carbon fluxes.

Communication efficiency optimization of federated learning for computing and network convergence of 6G networks

Federated learning effectively addresses issues such as data privacy by collaborating across participating devices to train global models.However,factors such as network topology and computing power of devices can affect its training or communication process in complex network environments.Computing and network convergence(CNC)of sixth-generation(6G)networks,a new network architecture and paradigm with computing-measurable,perceptible,distributable,dispatchable,and manageable capabilities,can effectively support federated learning training and improve its communication efficiency.By guiding the participating devices'training in federated learning based on business requirements,resource load,network conditions,and computing power of devices,CNC can reach this goal.In this paper,to improve the communication eficiency of federated learning in complex networks,we study the communication eficiency optimization methods of federated learning for CNC of 6G networks that give decisions on the training process for different network conditions and computing power of participating devices.The simulations address two architectures that exist for devices in federated learning and arrange devices to participate in training based on arithmetic power while achieving optimization of communication efficiency in the process of transferring model parameters.The results show that the methods we proposed can cope well with complex network situations,effectively balance the delay distribution of participating devices for local training,improve the communication eficiency during the transfer of model parameters,and improve the resource utilization in the network.

Spatial Variation in CO2 Concentration Improves the Simulated Surface Air Temperature Increase in the Northern Hemisphere

The increasing concentration of atmospheric CO2since the Industrial Revolution has affected surface air temperature.However,the impact of the spatial distribution of atmospheric CO2concentration on surface air temperature biases remains highly unclear.By incorporating the spatial distribution of satellite-derived atmospheric CO2concentration in the Beijing Normal University Earth System Model,this study investigated the increase in surface air temperature since the Industrial Revolution in the Northern Hemisphere（NH） under historical conditions from 1976-2005.In comparison with the increase in surface temperature simulated using a uniform distribution of CO2,simulation with a nonuniform distribution of CO2produced better agreement with the Climatic Research Unit（CRU） data in the NH under the historical condition relative to the baseline over the period 1901-30.Hemispheric June-July-August（JJA） surface air temperature increased by 1.28℃ ±0.29℃ in simulations with a uniform distribution of CO2,by 1.00℃±0.24℃ in simulations with a non-uniform distribution of CO2,and by 0.24℃ in the CRU data.The decrease in downward shortwave radiation in the non-uniform CO2simulation was primarily attributable to reduced warming in Eurasia,combined with feedbacks resulting from increased leaf area index（LAI） and latent heat fluxes.These effects were more pronounced in the non-uniform CO2simulation compared to the uniform CO2simulation.Results indicate that consideration of the spatial distribution of CO2concentration can reduce the overestimated increase in surface air temperature simulated by Earth system models.

Hyperspectral imaging for one-step growth simulation of Brochothrix thermosphacta in chilled beef during storage

In this work， one-step growth models using hyperspectral imaging (HSI) (400–1 000) nm were successfully developed in order to estimate the microbial loads， minimum growth temperature (Tmin) and maximum specific growth rate (μmax) of Brochothrix thermosphacta in chilled beef at isothermal temperatures (4–25) ℃. Three different methods were compared for model development， particularly using (Model I) the predicted microbial loads from partial least squares regression of the whole spectral variables; (Model II) the selected spectral variables related to microbial loads; and (Model III) the first principal scores of HSI spectra by principal component analysis. Consequently， Model I showed the best ability to predict the microbial loads of B. thermosphacta， with the coefficient of determination (Rv2) and root mean square error in internal validation (RMSEV) of 0.921 and 0.498 (lg (CFU/g)). The Tmin(–12.32 ℃) and μmaxcan be well estimated with R2and RMSE of 0.971 and 0.276 (lg (CFU/g))， respectively. The upward trend of μmaxwith temperature was similar to that of the plate count method. HSI technique thus can be used as a simple method for one-step growth simulation of B. thermosphacta in chilled beef during storage.

Relationship Between Gene-Phenotype and Clinical Manifestations of Chromosomal Copy Number Variations Indicated by Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing

Objective:To analyze the clinical value of non-invasive prenatal testing(NIPT)in detecting chromosomal copy number variations(CNVs)and to explore the relationship between gene expression and clinical manifestations of chromosomal copy number variations.Methods:3551 naturally conceived singleton pregnant women who underwent NIPT were included in this study.The NIPT revealed abnormalities other than sex chromosome abnormalities and trisomy 13,18,and 21.Pregnant women with chromosome copy number variations underwent genetic counseling and prenatal ultrasound examination.Interventional prenatal diagnosis and chromosome microarray analysis(CMA)were performed.The clinical phenotypes and pregnancy outcomes of different prenatal diagnoses were analyzed.Additionally,a follow-up was conducted by telephone to track fetal development after birth,at six months,and one year post-birth.Results:A total of 53 cases among 3551 cases showed chromosomal copy number variation.Interventional prenatal diagnosis was performed in 36 cases:27 cases were negative and 8 were consistent with the NIPT test results.This indicates that NIPT’s positive predictive value(PPV)in CNVs is 22.22%.Conclusion:NIPT has certain clinical significance in screening chromosome copy number variations and is expected to become a routine screening for chromosomal microdeletions and microduplications.However,further interventional prenatal diagnosis is still needed to identify fetal CNVs.

Structured-illumination reflectance imaging for the evaluation of microorganism contamination in pork: Effects of spectral and imaging features on its prediction performance

Structured-illumination reflectance imaging provides a new means for food quality detection. This original work investigated the capability of Structured-illumination reflectance imaging technique coupled with multivariate chemometrics to evaluate the microbial contamination in pork inoculated with Pseudomonas fluorescens and Brochothrix thermosphacta during storage at different temperatures. The prediction performances based on different spectrum and the textural features of direct component and amplitude component images demodulated from the SIRI pattern images， as well as their data fusion were comprehensively compared. Based on the full wavelength spectrum (420 – 700) nm of amplitude component images， the orthogonal signal correction coupled with support vector machine regression provided the best predictions of the number of Pseudomonas fluorescens and Brochothrix thermosphacta in pork， with the Rp2values of 0.870 and 0.906， respectively. Besides， the prediction models based on the amplitude component or direct component image textural features and the data fusion models using spectrum and textural features from direct component and amplitude component images cannot significantly improve their prediction accuracy. Consequently， structured-illumination reflectance imaging can be further considered as a potential technique for the rapid evaluation of microbial contaminations in pork meat.

Interface Design Strategy for GNS/AZ91 Composites with Semi-Coherent Structure

The interfacial structure plays an important role in the mechanical properties of magnesium matrix composite(MMCs)reinforced with graphene nanosheet(GNS)due to their poor wettability with the Mg matrix.An interface design strategy was proposed to form the semi-coherent interfacial structure with superior bonding strength.The lattice mismatch and interfacial bonding strength between Mg/rare earth oxide/carbon were utilized as key characteristics to evaluate the interfacial structure.Lanthanum oxide(La2O3)was selected as the intermediate candidate due to its low lattice mismatch and high interfacial bonding strength.To identify the interfacial structure of Mg/La2O3/graphene,first-principles calculations were conducted to calculate the ideal work of separation and electronic structure of the interfaces.Results demonstrated the presence of strong ionic and covalent interactions at the interface,which theoretically verified the strong interfacial bonding strength among Mg/La2O3/graphene interfaces.To experimentally validate the interface strength,MMCs with the interface structure of Mg/La2O3/GNS were developed.The formation of in-situ La2O3 led to the successful attainment of semi-coherent structures between Mg/La2O3 and La2O3/GNS,resulting in high strength and good ductility of the composite.Overall,this work proposes a new approach to interface design in MMCs with an enhancement of mechanical properties.

NBEA(MIM#604,889)is a novel disease causative gene that responds for neurodevelopment disorder with or without generalized epilepsy(NEDEGE,MIM#619,157).It encodes neurobeachin protein,a multi-domain neuro-specific scaf-folding protein that plays a vital role in vesicle trafficking and synaptic structure.NBEA was initially observed in an idiopathic autism patient,and thus NBEA has been regarded as a candidate autism gene for nearly two decades[1-4].In 2018,Mulhern et al.reported 24 individuals with de novo heterozygous NBEA variants with neurodevelopmental delay with autism and early onset generalized epilepsy,which led the Online Mendian Inheritance in Man(OMIM)team to identify it as a disease-causing gene for NEDEGE[5].Since then,only a few NBEA-related cases with similar clinical phenotypes have been reported[6-8].

Phosphorus Limitation on Carbon Sequestration in China under RCP8.5

Currently,there is a lack of understanding regarding carbon(C)sequestration in China arising as a result of phosphorus(P)limitation.In this study,a global land surface model(CABLE)was used to investigate the response of C uptake to P limitation after 1901.In China,P limitation resulted in reduced net primary production(NPP),heterotrophic respiration,and net ecosystem production(NEP)in both the 2030s and the 2060s.The reductions in NEP in the period2061–70 varied from 0.32 Pg C yr^(-1)in China to 5.50 Pg C yr^(-1)at the global scale,translating to a decrease of 15.0%for China and 7.6%globally in the period 2061–70,relative to the changes including C and nitrogen cycles.These ranges reflect variations in the magnitude of P limitation on C uptake(or storage)at the regional and global scales.Both in China and at the global scale,these differences can be attributed to differences in soil nutrient controls on C uptake,or positive feedback between NPP and soil decomposition rates,or both.Our results highlight the strong ability of P limitation to influence the pattern,response,and magnitude of C uptake under future conditions(2030s–2060s),which may help to clarify the potential influence of P limitation when projecting C uptake in China.
