Photo-induced Alignment Behavior of Azobenzene-containing Polymer Films with Different Cross-linking Degree

Three series of amorphous copolymers containing azobenzene groups with various substituents and certain amounts of crosslinkable acrylic groups were prepared. The cross-linked polymer films were obtained by thermal polymerization of the acrylic groups in the copolymers, during which, by controlling the time of cross-linking reaction, the films can be made with different cross-linking degree （from 0 to 32%, which was monitored by FT-IR spectra measurement）. Photo-induced alignment process of the films was performed under irradiation with linearly polarized light at 442 nm, and the effect of cross-linking degree on the photo-induced alignment rate was investigated. The dynamics of the photo-induced alignment was analyzed with biexponential curve fitting. The photo-induced alignment rate and the maximum transmittance of the films decreased because of the cross-linking. Furthermore, for the cross-linked samples, it was found that their saturated value of transmittances keep constant after repeated ＂writing＂ and ＂erasing＂ cycles. The findings reveal that the cross-linking of the film can effectively restrain the phototactic mass transport of azopolymer during irradiation by polarized light. The relationship between the cross-linking degree and the photo-induced alignment behavior of azopolymer is discussed in detail.

Nowadays nucleic acid tests are promising to be considered as point-of-care testing（POCT）. However, no such devices are currently available that can perform all the functions, including absolute nucleic acid determination, worldwide on-site detection, rapid analysis and real-time results reporting via ubiquitous mobile networks simultaneously with full package and automated means of measurement. In this study, we presented a compact low-cost portable POC automated testing platform with all attributes mentioned above. A disposable self-priming compartmentalization（SPC） microfluidic chip is used to conduct isothermal amplification. The platform also includes a micro-computer controlled heating unit, an inexpensive optical imaging setup, and a mobile device with customized software. It may become a useful tool for the rapid on-site detection of infectious diseases as well as other pathogens.

Affinity dye-ligand Cibacron Blue F3GA（CB F3GA） was covalently coupled with poly（vinyl alcohol）（PVA） coated on the inner surface of microporous poly（tetra-fluoroethylene）（MPTFE） membranous capillary. The PVA-coated PTFE capillary surface was characterized by XPS and FESEM. The grafting degree of PVA and the amount of CB F3GA immobilized onto the membranous capillary were 23.5 mg/g and 89.6 pmol/g, respectively. These dyed membranous capillaries were chemically and mechanically stable, and could be reproducibly prepared. Human serum albumin（HSA） was selected as model protein. The saturation adsorbance of the dye attached membranous capillary was 85.3 mg HSA/g, while the capacity of non-specific adsorption for HSA was less than 0.3 mg/g.

Lithium-sulfur(Li-S) batteries are one of the most promising rechargeable storage devices due to the high theoretical energy ***,the low areal sulfur loading impedes their commercial ***,a 3 D free-standing sulfur cathode scaffold is rationally designed and fabricated by coaxially coating polar Ti_3 C_2 T_x flakes on sulfur-impregnated carbon cloth(Ti_3 C_2 T_x@S/CC) to achieve high loading and high energy density Li-S batteries,in which,the flexible CC substrate with highly porous structure can accommodate large amounts of sulfur and ensure fast electron transfer,while the outer-coated Ti_3 C_2 T_x can serve as a polar and conductive protective layer to further promote the conductivity of the whole electrode,achieve physical blocking and chemical anchoring of lithium-polysulfides as well as catalyze their *** to these advantages,at a sulfur loading of 4 mg cm^(-2),Li-S cells with Ti_3 C_2 T_x@S/CC cathodes can deliver outstanding cycling stability(746.1 mAh g^(-1) after 200 cycles at1 C),superb rate performance(866.8 mAh g^(-1) up to 2 C) and a high specific energy density(564.2 Wh kg^(-1) after 100 cycles at 0.5 C).More significantly,they also show the commercial potential that can compete with current lithium-ion batteries due to the high areal capacity of 6.7 mAh cm^(-2) at the increased loading of 8 mg cm^(-2).

In this paper,a remapping-free adaptive GRP method for one dimensional(1-D)compressible flows is *** on the framework of finite volume method,the 1-D Euler equations are discretized on moving volumes and the resulting numerical fluxes are computed directly by the GRP *** the remapping process in the earlier adaptive GRP algorithm[17,18]is *** adopting a flexible moving mesh strategy,this method could be applied for multi-fluid *** interface of two fluids will be kept at the node of computational grids and the GRP solver is extended at the material interfaces of multi-fluid flows *** typical numerical tests show competitive performances of the new method,especially for contact discontinuities of one fluid cases and the material interface tracking of multi-fluid cases.

Lithium–sulfur(Li–S)batteries have been recognized as promising substitutes for current energy-storage technologies owing to their exceptional advantages in very high-energy density and excellent material *** cathode with high sulfur areal loading is vital for the practical applications of Li–S batteries with very high energy ***,the high sulfur loading in an electrode results in poor rate and cycling performances of batteries in most ***,we used diameters of 5.0(D5)and 13.0(D13)mm to probe the effect of electrodes with different sizes on the rate and cycling performances under a high sulfur loading(4.5 mg cm^-2).The cell with D5 sulfur cathode exhibits better rate and cycling performances comparing with a large(D13)*** the high concentration of lithium polysulfides and corrosion of lithium metal anode impede rapid kinetics of sulfur redox reactions,which results in inferior battery performance of the Li–S cell with large diameter *** work highlights the importance of rational matching of the large sulfur cathode with a high areal sulfur loading,carbon modified separators,organic electrolyte,and Li metal anode in a pouch cell,wherein the sulfur redox kinetics and lithium metal protection should be carefully considered under the flooded lithium polysulfide conditions in a working Li–S battery.

Isolation and characterization of gasoline-degrading bacteria from gas station leaking-contaminated soils

The effects of culture conditions in vitro and biosurfactant detection were studied on bacterial strains capable of degrading gasoline from contaminated soils near gas station. The main results were summarized as follows. Three bacteria （strains Q10, Q14 and Q18） that were considered as efficiently degrading strains were isolated and identified as Pseudomonas sp., Flavobaeterium sp. and Rhodococcus sp., respectively. The optimal growth conditions of three bacteria including pH, temperature and the concentration of gasoline were similar. The reduction in surface tension was observed with all the three bacteria, indicating the production of biosurfactant compounds. The value of surface tension reduced by the three strains Q10, Q14 and Q18 was 32.6 mN.m, 12.4 mN. m and 21.9 mN.m, respectively. Strain Q10 could be considered as a potential biosurfactant producer. Gasoline, diesel oil, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene （BTEX） could easily be degraded by the three isolates. The consortium was more effective than the individual cultures in degrading added gasoline, diesel oil, and BTEX. These results indicate that these strains have great potential for in situ remediation of soils contaminated by gas station leaking.

Simulation of municipal solid waste gasification for syngas production in fixed bed reactors

This study proposes a model of syngas production from municipal solid waste (MSW) gasification with air in fixed bed reactors. The model (using Aspen plus simulator) is used to predict the results of MSW gasification and to provide some process fundamentals concerning syngas production from MSW gasification. The effects of gasification temperature, air equiva- lence ratio and moisture concentration on the composition of syngas, lower heating value (LHV) of syngas, heat conversion efficiency, and carbon conversion are discussed. The results indicate that higher temperature improves gasification, and higher air equivalence ratio increases the carbon conversion while decreasing syngas LHV. Heat conversion efficiency increases and reaches the maximum and then decreases with the increase of air equivalence ratio. Higher moisture concentration increases the carbon conversion and increases the heat conversion efficiency at lower ratios. Higher temperature and a lower equivalence ratio are favorable for obtaining a higher LHV of syngas at the same moisture concentration.
