Effect of flurbiprofen combined with prednisolone on interleukin-6 in elderly surgery patients

Objective: To determine the effect of flurbiprofen combined with prednisolone on interleukin-6 in elderly surgery patients. Methods: In this double-blind randomized controlled study, patients aged 65 to 80 who were undergoing spinal fusion surgery for disc herniation were administered flurbiprofen 100 mg (P group, flurbiprofen group), prednisolone 0.6 mg/kg (D group, prednisolone group), prednisolone 0.6 mg/kg plus flurbiprofen 100 mg (P + D group, flurbiprofen + prednisolone group) or normal saline (S group, saline group) 15 minutes before the induction of anesthesia. Plasma samples were collected before surgery (T0) and on day 1 (T1), day 2 (T2) and day 3 (T3) following surgery. At the same time, systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) was assessed by SIRS criteria. The levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and C-reactive protein (CRP) for collected samples were measured. Results: Other groups had significantly lower levels of IL-6, CRP and occurrence of SIRS than S group (p 0.05). Conclusion: Compared to prednisolone or flurbiprofen, combining flurbiprofen with prednisolone in elderly surgery patients led to an increased suppression of IL-6.

Background and Aims:Occlusive portal vein thrombosis(PVT)often causes portal hypertension-related complications in cirrhotic patients.Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt(TIPS)is an effective treatment for this difficult problem.However,the factors influencing TIPS success and overall survival in patients with occlusive PVT are unknown.This study investigated the factors influencing TIPS success and overall survival in cirrhotic patients with occlusive PVT.Methods:Cirrhotic patients with occlusive PVT were selected from a prospective database of consecutive patients treated with TIPS in Xijing Hospital between January 2015 and May 2021.Baseline characteristics,TIPS success rate,complications,and survival were collected,and the factors associated with the TIPS success rate and transplant-free survival were analyzed.Results:A total of 155 cirrhotic patients with occlusive PVT were enrolled.TIPS succeeded in 126(81.29%)cases.The 1-year survival rate was 74%.Compared with those without,patients with portal fibrotic cord had a lower TIPS success rate(39.02%vs.96.49%,p<0.001),shorter median overall survival(300 vs.1,730 days,p<0.001)and more operation-related complications(12.20%vs.1.75%,p<0.01).Logistic regression analysis found that portal fibrotic cord(odds ratio 0.024)was a risk factor for TIPS failure.Univariate and multivariate analysis showed that portal fibrotic cord was an independent predictor of death(hazard ratio 2.111;95%CI:1.094-4.071,p=0.026).Conclusions:Portal fibrotic cord increased the TIPS failure rate and is a risk factor for poor prognosis in cirrhotic patients.

Plastic waste is causing serious environmental problems. Developing efficient, cheap and stable catalytic routes to convert plastic waste into valuable products is of great importance for sustainable development, but remains to be a challenging task. Zeolites are cheap and stable, but they are usually not efficient for plastic conversion at a low temperature. Herein a series of microporous and mesoporous zeolites were used to study the influence of porosity and acidity of zeolite on catalytic activity for plastics conversion. It was observed that H-Beta zeolite was an efficient catalyst for cracking high-density polyethylene to gasoline at 240℃, and the products were almost C_(4)–C_(12) alkanes. The effect of porosity and acidity on catalytic performance of zeolites was evaluated, which clearly visualized the good performance of H-Beta due to high surface area, large channel system, large amount accessible acidic sites. This study provides very useful information for designing zeolites for efficient conversion of plastics.

计数数据大量出现在医学、社会学、心理学、保险和交通等领域,是一类十分重要的数据类型。不过,计数数据常出现过度分散现象,使得普通的泊松回归模型无法解释,从而失去效用。本文研究一类混合泊松分布,专门用于拟合这种过度分散的计数数据。主要工作是基于现有的泊松-广义逆高斯分布、泊松-倒逆高斯分布和泊松-逆伽玛分布等三类混合泊松分布,利用广义可加模型(GAMLSS)的灵活性,构建泊松-逆伽玛分布假设下的GAMLSS模型。为验证模型性能,本文还将泊松-逆伽玛、泊松-倒逆高斯和负二项分布假设下的GAMLSS模型应用于车险索赔频率数据,并根据全局偏差、AIC和BIC等准则评估模型。结果表明,本文模型对过度分散的车险索赔频率数据的拟合明显优于负二项、泊松-倒逆高斯分布假设下的GAMLSS模型,是一个处理过度分散计数数据的有效模型。

The CRISPR/Cas(clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats/CRISPRassociated proteins) system was first identified in bacteria and archaea and can degrade exogenous substrates. It was developed as a gene editing technology in 2013. Over the subsequent years, it has received extensive attention owing to its easy manipulation, high efficiency, and wide application in gene mutation and transcriptional regulation in mammals and plants. The process of CRISPR/Cas is optimized constantly and its application has also expanded dramatically. Therefore, CRISPR/Cas is considered a revolutionary technology in plant biology. Here, we introduce the mechanism of the type II CRISPR/Cas called CRISPR/Cas9, update its recent advances in various applications in plants, and discuss its future prospects to provide an argument for its use in the study of medicinal plants.

Enhanced Wear Resistance of Ni/h-BN Composites with Graphene Addition Produced by Spark Plasma Sintering

Ni-based self-lubricating composites containing a fixed amount of hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN)(5 wt%) and different amounts of graphene (0-1.5 wt%) were prepared by ultrasonic dispersion, high-energy ball milling, and spark plasma sintering. The effects of the graphene content on the physical, mechanical, and wear properties of the Ni/h-BN composites were evaluated. These properties were first enhanced with increasing graphene content, reaching optimal behavior for a graphene content of 1 wt%, and then degraded with further graphene addition. Compared to the pure Ni/h-BN composite, the relative density, hardness, and bending strength of the composite with 1 wt% graphene increased by 2.7%, 7.4%, and 6.3%, respectively, while the friction coefficient decreased by 56% to 0.31, and a reduction in wear rate by a factor of 5-15 was observed. The mechanism for improving the wear properties of the composite with added graphene was due to the formation of a graphene lubricating film on the worn surface, which increased the load bearing capacity of the surface and enhanced lubrication during wear.
