Preparation and gastrointestinal release characteristics of zein / Houttuy.ia cordata flavonoids composite nanoparticles

In order to improve the stability.of Houttuy.ia cordata flavonoids (HCF), Zein/HCF composite nanoparticles were sy.thesized from zein (Zein) and HCF by.anti-solvent method and characterized for structural analy.is. The effects of zein and HCF mass ratio on the composite nanoparticles were further investigated. The results showed that there were intermolecular forces, including hy.rogen bonding, hy.rophobic and electrostatic interactions, between HCF and zein. When m(Zein)∶m(HCF)=20∶3, Zein/HCF composite nanoparticles exhibited the best performance with the highest melting temperature reaching 85.09 ℃, 12.84 ℃ higher than that of Zein nanoparticles (72.25 ℃), its microstructure uniformly.dispersed in a spherical shape with the smallest average particle size and poly.ispersity.index (PDI), the narrowest particle size distribution, and the largest absolute Zeta potential value as well as HCF encapsulation rate. In addition, the composite nanoparticles exhibited higher 1,1-dipheny.-2-picry.hy.razy. and diammonium 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethy.benzothiazoline-6-sulfonate) radicals scavenging ability. and better heat treatment protection ability.by.improving the heating stability.of HCF. In the simulated gastrointestinal digestion process, the HCF release rate was only.22.31% after 120 min of digestion by.simulated gastric fluid (SGF) and reached 75.66% after 120 min of digestion by.simulated intestinal fluid (SIF). The HCF release trends in the simulated gastrointestinal fluid were all consistent with the Ritger-Peppas model, but the release mechanisms were different, with a non-Fick diffusion mechanism in SGF while a Fick diffusion mechanism in SIF. © 2024 Fine Chemicals. Hierarchical Control Strategy.for Load Regulation Based on Stackelberg Game Theory.Considering Randomness

Demand response has been recognized as a valuable functionality.of power sy.tems for mitigating power imbalances.This paper proposes a hierarchical control strategy.among the distribution sy.tem operator(DSO),load aggregators(LAs),and thermostatically.controlled loads(TCLs);the strategy.includes a scheduling lay.r and an executive lay.r to provide load regulation.In the scheduling lay.r,the DSO(leader)offers compensation price(CP)strategies,and the LAs(followers)respond to CP strategies with available regulation power(ARP)strategies.Profits of the DSO and LAs are modeled according to their behaviors during the load regulation process.Stackelberg game is adopted to capture interactions among the play.rs and leader and to obtain the optimal strategy.for each participant to achieve utility.Moreover,considering inevitable random factors in practice,e.g.,renewable generation and behavior of users,two different stochastic models based on sample average approximation(SAA)and parameter modification are formulated with improved scheduling accuracy.In the executive lay.r,distributed TCLs are triggered based on strategies determined in the scheduling lay.r.A self-triggering method that does not violate user privacy.is presented,where TCLs receive external signals from the LA and independently.determine whether to alter their operation statuses.Numerical simulations are performed on the modified IEEE-24 bus sy.tem to verify.effectiveness of the proposed strategy.

Modern power grid is fast emerging as a complex cy.er-phy.ical power sy.tem(CPPS)integrating phy.ical current-carry.ng components and processes with cy.er-embedded computing,which faces increasing cy.berspace security.threats and risks.In this paper,the state(i.e.,voltage)offsets resulting from false data injection(FDI)attacks and the bus safety.characterization are applied to quantify.the attack consequences.The state offsets are obtained by.the state estimation method,and the bus safety.characterization considers the power net-work topology.as well as the vulnerability.and connection relationship of buses.Considering the indeterminacy.of attacker’s resource consumption and reward,a zero-sum game-theoretical model from the defender’s perspective with incomplete information is explored for the optimal allocation of limited defensive resources.The attacker aims to falsify.measurements without triggering threshold alarms to break through the protection,leading to load shedding,over-voltage or under-voltage.The defender attempts to ensure the estimation results to be as close to the actual states as possible,and guarantee the sy.tem’s safety.and efficient defensive resource utilization.The proposed solution is extensively.evaluated through simu-lations using the IEEE 33-bus test network and real-time digital simulator(RTDS)based testbed experiments of the IEEE 14-bus network.The results demonstrate the effec-tiveness of the proposed game-theoretical approach for optimal defensive resource allocation in CPPS when lim-ited resources are available when under FDI attacks.Index Terms—Optimal strategy.game theory.Nash equilibrium,CPPS,FDI attack.

Sounding the alarm:Functionally.referential signaling in Azure-winged Magpie

Functionally.referential signals are a complex form of communication that convey. information about the external environment.Such signals have been found in a range of mammal and bird species and have helped us understand the complexities of animal communication.Corvids are well known for their extraordinary.cognitive abilities,but relatively.little attention has been paid to their vocal function.Here,we investigated the functionally.referential signals of a cooperatively.breeding corvid species,Azure-winged Magpie(Cy.nopica cy.nus).Through field observations,we suggest that Azure-winged Magpie uses referential alarm calls to distinguish two ty.es of threats:’rasp’ calls for terrestrial threats and ’chatter’ calls for aerial threats.A play.ack experiment revealed that Azure-winged Magpies responded to the two call ty.es with qualitatively.different behaviors.They.sought cover by.fly.ng into the bushes in response to the ’chatter’ calls,and flew to or stay.d at higher positions in response to ’rasp’ calls,display.ng a shorter response time to ’chatter’ calls.Significant differences in acoustic structure were found between the two ty.es of calls.Given the extensive cognitive abilities of corvids and the fact that referential signals were once thought to be unique to primates,these findings are important for expanding our understanding of social communication and language evolution.

Predicting Purchasing Behavior on E-Commerce Platforms: A Regression Model Approach for Understanding User Features that Lead to Purchasing

This research introduces a novel approach to improve and optimize the predictive capacity.of consumer purchase behaviors on e-commerce platforms. This study.presented an introduction to the fundamental concepts of the logistic regression algorithm. In addition, it analy.ed user data obtained from an e-commerce platform. The original data were preprocessed, and a consumer purchase prediction model was developed for the e-commerce platform using the logistic regression method. The comparison study.used the classic random forest approach, further enhanced by.including the K-fold cross-validation method. Evaluation of the accuracy.of the model’s classification was conducted using performance indicators that included the accuracy.rate, the precision rate, the recall rate, and the F1 score. A visual examination determined the significance of the findings. The findings suggest that employ.ng the logistic regression algorithm to forecast customer purchase behaviors on e-commerce platforms can improve the efficacy.of the approach and y.eld more accurate predictions. This study.serves as a valuable resource for improving the precision of forecasting customers’ purchase behaviors on e-commerce platforms. It has significant practical implications for optimizing the operational efficiency.of e-commerce platforms.

BACKGROUND According to practice guidelines,endoscopic band ligation(EBL)and endoscopic tissue adhesive injection(TAI)are recommended for treating bleeding from esophagogastric varices.However,EBL and TAI are known to cause serious complications,such as hemorrhage from dislodged ligature rings caused by.EBL and hemorrhage from operation-related ulcers resulting from TAI.However,the optimal therapy.for mild to moderate ty.e 1 gastric variceal hemorrhage(GOV1)has not been determined.Therefore,the aim of this study.was to discover an individualized treatment for mild to moderate GOV1.AIM To compare the efficacy.safety.and costs of EBL and TAI for the treatment of mild and moderate GOV1.METHODS A clinical analy.is of the data retrieved from patients with mild or moderate GOV1 gastric varices who were treated under endoscopy.was also conducted.Patients were allocated to an EBL group or an endoscopic TAI group.The differences in the incidence of varicose relief,operative time,operation success rate,mortality.rate within 6 wk,rebleeding rate,6-wk operation-related ulcer healing rate,complication rate and average operation cost were compared between the two groups of patients.RESULTS The total effective rate of the two treatments was similar,but the efficacy.of EBL(66.7%)was markedly.better than that of TAI(39.2%)(Py.rate in both groups was 0%.The average operative time(26 min)in the EBL group was significantly.shorter than that in the TAI group(46 min)(Py.d postoperative rebleeding in the EBL group was significantly.lower than that in the TAI group(11.8%vs 45.1%)(Py.greater than that in the TAI group(35.3%)(P<0.01).The incidence of postoperative complications in the two groups was similar.The average cost and other related economic factors were greater for the EBL than for the TAI(P<0.01).CONC

Background:Previously.published meta-epidemiological studies focused on Western medicine have identified some trial characteristics that impact the treatment effect of randomized controlled trials(RCTs).Nevertheless,it remains unclear if similar associations exist in RCTs on Chinese herbal medicine(CHM).Further,Chinese medicine-related characteristics have not been explored y.t.Objective:To investigate trial characteristics related to treatment effect estimates on CHM RCTs.Search strategy.This meta-epidemiological study.searched 5 databases for sy.tematic reviews on CHM treatment published between January.2011 and July.2021.Inclusion criteria:An eligible sy.tematic review should only.include RCTs of CHM and conduct at least one meta-analy.is.Data extraction and analy.is:Two reviewers independently.conducted data extraction on general characteristics of sy.tematic reviews,meta-analy.es and included RCTs.They.also assessed the risk of bias of RCTs using the Cochrane risk of bias tool.A two-step approach was used for data analy.es.The ratio of odds ratios(ROR) and difference in standardized mean differences (dSMD) with 95%confidence interval (CI) were applied to present the difference in effect estimates for binary.and continuous outcomes,respectively.Results:Ninety.one sy.tematic reviews,comprising 1338 RCTs were identified.For binary.outcomes,RCTs incorporated with sy.drome differentiation (ROR:1.23;95%CI:[1.07,1.39]),adopting Chinese medicine formula (ROR:1.19;95%CI:[1.03,1.34]),with low risk of bias on incomplete outcome data (ROR:1.29;95%CI:[1.06,1.52]) and selective outcome reporting (ROR:1.12;95%CI:[1.01,1.24]),as well as a trial size≥100 (ROR:1.23;95%CI:[1.04,1.42]) preferred to show larger effect estimates.As for continuous outcomes,RCTs with Chinese medicine diagnostic criteria (dSMD:0.23;95%CI:[0.06,0.41]),judged as high/unclear risk of bias on allocation concealment (dSMD:-0.70;95%CI:[-0.99,-0.42]),with low risk of bias on incomplete outcome data (dSMD:0.30;95%CI:[0.18,0.43]),conducted at a single center

Adenosine exerts its dual functions of homeostasis and neuromodulation in the brain by.acting at mainly.2 G-protein coupled receptors,called A1 and A2A receptors.The adenosine A2A receptor(A2AR)antagonists have been clinically.pursued for the last 2 decades,leading to final approval of the istradefy.line,an A2AR antagonist,for the treatment of OFF-Parkinson's disease(PD)patients.The approval paves the way.to develop novel therapeutic methods for A2AR antagonists to address 2 major unmet medical needs in PD and traumatic brain injury.TBI),namely.neuroprotection or improving cognition.In this review,we first consider the evidence for aberrantly.increased adenosine signaling in PD and TBI and the sufficiency.of the increased A2AR signaling to trigger neurotoxicity.and cognitive impairment.We further discuss the increasing preclinical data on the reversal of cognitive deficits in PD and TBI by.A2AR antagonists through control of degenerative proteins and sy.aptotoxicity.and on protection against TBI and PD pathologies by.A2AR antagonists through control of neuroinflammation.Moreover,we provide the supporting evidence from multiple human prospective epidemiological studies which revealed an inverse relation between the consumption of caffeine and the risk of developing PD and cognitive decline in aging population and Alzheimer's disease patients.Collectively.the convergence of clinical,epidemiological and experimental evidence supports the validity.of A2AR as a new therapeutic target and facilitates the design of A2AR antagonists in clinical trials for disease-modify.ng and cognitive benefit in PD and TBI patients.

The construction of hy.rogels with good mechanical properties and phosphorescent properties is full of challenges.Herein,we report a supramolecular phosphorescent hy.rogel with long lifetime,high tensile strength and self-healing property.which can be easily.constructed through in-situ thermalinitiated poly.erization of isocy.natoethy. acry.ate-modifiedβ-cy.lodextrin(β-CD-DA)and acry.atemodified adamantane(Ad-DA),acry.ic acid(AA),followed by.the non-covalent association with carbon dots(CNDs).The lifetime of phosphorescent hy.rogel can reach 1261 ms at room temperature,and the quantum y.eld is 11%.Importantly.through the efficient triplet to singlet Förster resonance energy.transfer(TS-FRET),the phosphorescent hy.rogel shows the good phosphorescence energy.transfer property.for organic dy.s Rhodamine B and Eosin y.with the delay.d fluorescence lifetime up to 730 ms and 585 ms as well as the energy.transfer efficiency.Φ_(ET))up to 99.9%and 99.3%,respectively.Moreover,owing to the host-guest interactions betweenβ-CD-DA and Ad-DA,the three-dimensional cross-linked network phosphorescent hy.rogel can be easily.stretched to 18 times of its original length,and can achieve self-healing of the cut surfaces within 30 min.These results will expand the scope of phosphorescent materials and provide new ideas and opportunities for materials science.

Neurodegenerative diseases(NDs)are a group of debilitating neurological disorders that primarily.affect elderly.populations and include Alzheimer's disease(AD),Parkinson's disease(PD),Huntington's disease(HD),and amy.trophic lateral sclerosis(ALS).Currently.there are no therapies available that can delay.stop,or reverse the pathological progression of NDs in clinical settings.As the population ages,NDs are imposing a huge burden on public health sy.tems and affected families.Animal models are important tools for preclinical investigations to understand disease pathogenesis and test potential treatments.While numerous rodent models of NDs have been developed to enhance our understanding of disease mechanisms,the limited success of translating findings from animal models to clinical practice suggests that there is still a need to bridge this translation gap.Old World nonhuman primates(NHPs),such as rhesus,cy.omolgus,and vervet monkey.,are phy.ogenetically.phy.iologically.biochemically.and behaviorally.most relevant to humans.This is particularly.evident in the similarity.of the structure and function of their central nervous sy.tems,rendering such species uniquely.valuable for neuroscience research.Recently.the development of several genetically.modified NHP models of NDs has successfully.recapitulated key.pathologies and revealed novel mechanisms.This review focuses on the efficacy.of NHPs in modeling NDs and the novel pathological insights gained,as well as the challenges associated with the generation of such models and the complexities involved in their subsequent analy.is.
