Temperature action and effect of concrete-filled steel tubular bridges:A review

Concrete-filled steel tube(CFST)has been widely applied in bridges due to its excellent structural and constructional *** CFST bridges,temperature action is not only an important but also a special load that must be considered in bridge design,construction and structural *** paper presents an overview on current researches of the temperature action and effect of CFST *** historical and spatial characteristics as well as corresponding influencing factors of temperature distributions are summarized,and classifications of temperature actions are also *** show that in-depth investigations of the contributions of temperature influencing factors can help to effectively reduce the adverse temperature effects on CFST bridges in the design *** to the lack of long-term measurements and insufficient use of historical meteorological data,research on the representative value along with correlation analysis of CFST temperature actions and meteorological parameters have to be further carried *** the meanwhile,a decomposition method of temperature distribution is proposed based on structural effects of CFST bridges in this *** decomposed temperature actions can be used for more accurate effect calculation than traditional temperature action classification method,especially for CFST truss *** last,specific temperature action patterns still need to be investigated in some of the special problems,such as longitudinal temperature differences along the CFST arch rib and thermal debonding in the CFST *** investigations are required on the accurate simulation of temperature distribution of CFST bridges considering the shading effects of components and terrain.

Entrapping multifunctional dendritic nanoparticles into a hydrogel for local therapeutic delivery and synergetic immunochemotherapy

Developing multifunctional nanoparticles to support new therapy models is a promising and challenging task to address the current dilemma on antitumor treatment. Herein, we incorporated multifunctional dendritic nanoparticles into a poly(D,L-lactide-co-glycolide)-poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(D,L-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA-PEG-PLGA) triblock copolymers thermosensitive injectable hydrogel matrix to construct a localized drug delivery system for combining chemotherapy and immunotherapy. The multifunctional dendritic nanoparticles were designed with following expectations: i, Dendritic scaffolds provide a hydrophobic interior to load the anticancer drug, doxorubicin (DOX), for chemotherapy; and ii, dendritic scaffolds are used to build arginine-rich molecules to provide the inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) substrate, L-Arg, to M1 macrophages, which can produce the cytotoxic substance nitric oxide (NO) and subsequently induce tumor cell destruction through immunotherapy. It is noteworthy that the dendritic nanoparticles-in-hydrogel delivery system is able to gel at physiological temperature and serves as a warehouse for the sustained release of the drug. Ultimately, this system showed great efficacy in treating 4T1 cells-xenografted BALB/C mice (86.62% tumor growth inhibition). Therefore, this localized drug delivery system combining chemotherapy and immunotherapy provides a novel approach for cancer therapy.

Biomimetic preparation and multi-scale microstructures of nano-silica/polyurethane elastomeric fibers

Bioinspired by the spinning of spider silks,the biomimetic preparation of nano-silica/polyurethane（nano-SiO/TPU） elastomeric fibers with distinctive multi-scale microstructures was successfully *** formation mechanism of the nano-SiO;/TPU fibers was considered as the integrated mechanism of diffusion,coagulation,self-assembly,and microphase separation,same as that of the native spider *** mass ratio of nano-SiO;to TPU greatly influenced the external and inner microstructures of the nano-SiO;ATPU *** formation process of the nano-SiO;/TPU fibers was simply described as three main stages,and the second stage,such as the adding of the ethanol solvents and nano-SiO;in different diameters,was thought to be very crucial for the final external and inner microstructures of the prepared *** example,the adding of the ethanol and the nano-SiO;spheres in diameter of 10 nm resulted in the existence of many TPU-self-assembled microspheres mostly spaced apart by the nano-SiO;aggregates in the nano-SiOVTPU fibers,while the adding of the ethanol and the nano-SiO;spheres in diameter of 100 nm resulted in the existence of the nano-SiO;spheres,instead of the TPU-self-assembled microspheres,distributed in the nano-SiO;/TPU fibers.

pH-Sensitive Wettability Induced by Topological and Chemical Transition on the Self Assembled Surface of Block Copolymer

pH-sensitive wettability of polystyrene-b-poly（4-vinylpyridine）（PS-b-P4VP） self assembled films, exhibiting superoleophobicity under water and hydrophilicity at low pH value, and oleophobicity under water and hydrophobicity at neutral condition, has been realized. The wettability properties resulted from the surface topological and chemical transition, which were confirmed by in situ AFM measurements under water at different pH. At low pH, P4VP chains, which were confined in the hexagonal-packed nanodomains, got protonated into a swollen state, while at high pH, P4VP chains were deprotonated into a collapsed state. The reversible protonation/deprotonation procedure on the molecular scale leads to surface topological and chemical transition, thereby pH-sensitive wettability.

Lung resection following pneumonectomy for recurrent lung cancer is a challenging ***-operative airway management and choice of surgical procedure are issues to be addressed by both the anesthesiologists and thoracic *** hereby report a case of anterior segmentectomy of the right upper for recurrent lung cancer,in a patient who had previously underwent pneumonectomy for primary lung cancer one year earlier.A modified conventional tracheal intubation and unique surgical techniques were applied for video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery(VATS)anterior segmentectomy of the right upper lobe in a patient with a notable mediastinal shift(following contralateral pneumonectomy),resulting in a good recovery and clinical *** clinical experience is summarized in detail in this article.

A Miniature Droplet Reactor Built on Nanoparticle-Derived Superhydrophobic Pedestals

The capability to design and modulate materials, shapes, heat transfer, and mass mixing during the process of developing chemical reactors has allowed researchers to explore millions of chemical reactions and assays. However, despite the advantages in engineering array-based microreactors or microfluidic systems, the wetting attachment between solutions of reagents/products and the glass or polymer substrates of containers leads to difficulties in collecting products effectively and preventing channel blockage. Herein we present a miniature droplet reactor which takes advantage of the anti-wetting and low-adhesive properties of nanoparticle-derived superhydrophobic pedestals, allowing aqueous droplets to be manipulated freely but also providing a confined environment for performing a series of aqueous phase chemical reactions on a small scale. Gas- or precipitate- forming reactions can also be performed inside this miniature reactor. Most importantly, reaction products in liquid, solid or gaseous states can be collected effectively, which allows the harvesting of valuable products formed in limited amounts. Such a miniature reactor built on superhydrophobic pedestals provides a new way of performing common chemical reactions and may open the door to the design of next-generation microreaction systems.

Chinese brushes： From controllable liquid manipulation to template-free printing microlines

As a traditional writing instrument for calligraphy and painting, the Chinese brush has enjoyed a high reputation over the last 5,000 years due to its ability to controllably handle liquid ink, and has been widely used to deposit ink into certain characters or figures as a means of cultural communication. In this mini-review, we first show how the key to the controllable liquid transfer in a Chinese brush lies in the anisotropic multi-scale structural features of the freshly emergent hairs. Then, drawing inspiration from this, applications in controllable liquid pumping, highly efficient liquid transfer and template-free printing microlines are addressed. We envision that the fundamentals of Chinese brushes and their applications in liquid manipulation mentioned in this review may also be extended to other liquid phase functional material systems.

Fabrication of ZnO-based thick film varistors with high potential gradient

ZnO-based thick film varistors have been fabricated by Y203 doping and low-temperature sintering, of which the sample with the best electrical properties has a high potential gradient value of 3159.4 V/mm. The effects of Y2O3 doping concentration and sintering temperature on the potential gradient of the samples were systematically investigated. The results show that the sample with the best electrical properties can be obtained by doping 0.08 mol% Y2O3 and sintering at 725℃. Under these optimum preparation conditions, the leakage current and the nonlinear coefficient are found to be 36.4 gA and 13.1. The sample with the best electrical properties has a grain size of 1.290um, a single grain boundary voltage of 4.08 V, a barrier height of 0.81 eV, and a depletion layer width of 10.2 nm, which are determined by thermionic emission. Small grain size with good grain boundary characteristics is beneficial to improve the electrical properties of varistors and promote the potential gradient.

Self-healing superhydrophobic polyvinylidene fluoride/ Fe3O4@polypyrrole fiber with core-sheath structures for superior microwave absorption

Self-healing superhydrophobic polyvinylidene fluoride/Fe3O4@polypyrrole （F- PVDF/FeBO4@PPyx） fibers with core-sheath structure were successfully fabricated by electrospinning of a PVDF/Fe3O4 mixture and in situ chemical oxidative polymerization of pyrrole, followed by chemical vapor deposition with fluoroalkyl silane. The F-PVDF/Fe3O4@PPy0.075 fiber film produces a superhydrophobic surface with self-healing behavior, which can repetitively and automatically restore superhydrophobicity when the surface is chemically damaged. Moreover, the maximum refection loss （Ru） of the F-PVDF/Fe304@PPy0.075 fiber film reaches -21.5 dB at 16.8 GHz and the RL below -10 dB is in the frequency range of 10.6-16.5 GHz with a thickness of 2.5 mm. The microwave absorption performance is attributed to the synergetic effect between dielectric loss and magnetic loss originating from PPy, PVDF and Fe3O4. As a consequence, preparing such F-PVDF/Fe3O4@PPyx fibers in this manner provides a simple and effective route to develop multi-functional microwave absorbing materials for practical applications.

In situ fastening graphene sheets into a polyurethane sponge for the highly efficient continuous cleanup of oil spills

Oil sorbents are an attractive option for oil-spill cleanup as they may be used for collection and complete removal of oil without adversely affecting the environment. However, traditional oil sorbents exhibit low oil/water separation efficiency and/or low oil-sorption capacity. In this study, an ultra-high performance graphene/polyurethane （PU） sponge has been successfully obtained by in situ polymerization in the presence of graphene dispersed in N-methylpyrrolidone （NMP）. During polymerization, the NMP/graphene dispersion not only serves as a weak amine catalyst for the formation of the sponge, but promotes fixation of the graphene sheets in the framework of the PU sponge owing to the strong dipole interaction between NMP and graphene. The as-prepared graphene/PU sponge was used as an absorbing material for the continuous removal of oil from oil-spill water. The graphene/PU sponge can continuously and rapidly remove oils from immiscible oil/water mixtures in corrosive solutions, including strong acids and bases, hot water, and ice water, with an excellent separation efficiency of above 99.99%. In addition, the as-prepared graphene/PU sponge was effective in separating surfactant-stabilized emulsions with a high separation efficiency of 〉99.91%.
