Objective Hyperbaric oxygen treatment(HBOT)has demonstrated efficacy in improving hearing levels of patients with idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss(ISSHL);however,the underlying mechanisms are not well understood.HBOT alleviates the inflammatory response,which is mediated by Toll-like receptor(TLR)4 and nuclear factor(NF)-κB.In this study we investigated whether HBOT attenuates inflammation in ISHHL patients via alteration of TLR4 and NF-κB expression.Methods ISHHL patients(n=120)and healthy control subjects(n=20)were enrolled in this study.Patients were randomly divided into medicine group treated with medicine only(n=60)and HBO group receiving both HBOT and medicine(n=60).Audiometric testing was performed pre-and posttreatment.TLR4,NF-кB,and TNF-αexpression in peripheral blood of ISSHL patients and healthy control subjects was assessed by ELISA before and after treatment.Results TLR4,NF-κB,and TNF-αlevels were upregulated in ISSHL patients relative to healthy control subjects;the levels were decreased following treatment and were lower in the HBO group than that in the medicine group post-treatment(P<0.05 and P<0.01).Conclusion HBOT alleviates hearing loss in ISSHL patients by suppressing the inflammatory response induced by TLR4 and NF-κB signaling.

An advanced cost-saving method of removal of high-As(Ⅲ)from SO_(4)(-Ⅱ)-rich metallurgical wastewater has been developed by diluting the SO_(4)(-Ⅱ)content with As(Ⅲ)-Cl(-Ⅰ)-rich metallurgical wastewater and then by the direct precipitation of As(Ⅲ)with Fe(Ⅲ)at pH 2.3.As(Ⅲ)removal at various SO_(4)(-Ⅱ)/Cl(-Ⅰ)molar ratios and temperatures was investigated.The results showed that 65.2–98.2%of As(Ⅲ)immobilization into solids occurred at the SO_(4)(-Ⅱ)/Cl(-I)molar ratios of 1:1–32 and 15–60℃in 3 days,which were far higher than those in aqueous sole SO4(-Ⅱ)or Cl(-Ⅰ)media at the equimolar SO_(4)(-Ⅱ)or Cl(-Ⅰ)and the same temperature.SO_(4)(-Ⅱ)/Cl(-Ⅰ)molar ratio of 1:4 and 25℃were optimal conditions to reach the As removal maximum.Mixed aqueous SO4(-Ⅱ)and Cl(-Ⅰ)played a synergetic role in the main tooeleite formation together with(Cl(-Ⅰ)-free)ferric arsenite hydroxychloride(FAHC)involving the substitution of AsO_(3)^(3−)for Cl(-Ⅰ)for enhanced As fixation.The competitive complexation among FeH_(2)AsO_(3)^(2+),FeSO_(4)^(+)and FeCl^(2+)complexes was the main mechanism for the maximum As(Ⅲ)precipitation at the SO4(-Ⅱ)/Cl(-I)molar ratio of 1:4.Low As(Ⅲ)immobilization at high temperature with increased Fe(Ⅲ)hydrolysis was due to the formation of As(Ⅲ)-bearing ferrihydrite with the relatively high Fe/As molar ratio at acidic pH.

This paper proposes a method for modelling volatilities(conditional covariance matrices)of high dimensional dynamic data.We combine the ideas of approximate factor models for dimension reduction and multivariate GARCH models to establish a model to describe the dynamics of high dimensional volatilities.Sparsity condition and thresholding technique are applied to the estimation of the error covariance matrices,and quasi maximum likelihood estimation(QMLE)method is used to estimate the parameters of the common factor conditional covariance matrix.Asymptotic theories are developed for the proposed estimation.Monte Carlo simulation studies and real data examples are presented to support the methodology.

Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect of gentisic acid(GA)on rheumatoid arthritis(RA)based on the miR-19b-3p/RAF1 axis.Methods The cell counting kit-8 method was used to detect the growth inhibitory effect of different concentrations of GA on MH7A cells,and the drug concentration of GA was determined in the experiment.The quantificational real-time polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR)was used to detect the expression of miR-19b-3p and RAF1.RAF1,extracellular regulated protein kinases1/2(ERK1/2)and phospho-ERK1/2(p-ERK1/2)were examined by Western blotting.Three methods(dual-luciferase assay,qRT-PCR and Western blot analysis)were used to verify miR-19b-3p targeting RAF1.Flow cytometry was performed to detect MH7A cell apoptosis.Transwell and wound healing assays were used to determine the invasion and migration capacities of MH7A cells.Results The growth of MH7A cells was gradually inhibited with increasing GA concentration.When the GA concentration exceeded 80 mmol/L,GA was significantly cytotoxic to MH7A cells,so the half maximal inhibitory concentration of GA for MH7A cells was calculated as 67.019 mmol/L.GA upregulated miR-19b-3p expression,downregulated RAF1 expression,inhibited ERK1/2 phosphorylation,induced MH7A cell apoptosis and suppressed MH7A cell invasion and migration(P<0.05 or P<0.01).RAF1 was identified as the target of miR-19b-3p and reversed inhibitory effects on miR-19b-3p expression(P<0.05 or P<0.01).The miR-19b-3p inhibitor upregulated RAF1 expression and ERK1/2 phosphorylation,suppressed MH7A cell apoptosis and induced MH7A cell invasion and migration(P<0.01).Conclusion GA regulated miR-19b-3p/RAF1 axis to mediate ERK pathway and inhibit the development of RA.

The focus of this paper is to investigate different control structures(single-loop PI control) for a dividing wall(Petlyuk) column for separating ethanol, n-propanol and n-butanol. Four control structures are studied. All the results are simulations based on Aspen Plus. Control structure 1(CS1) is stabilizing control structure with only temperature controllers. CS2, CS3 and CS4, containing also composition controllers, are introduced to reduce the steady state composition deviations. CS2 adds a distillate composition controller(CCDB) on top of CS1. CS3 is much more complicated with three temperature-composition cascade controllers and in addition a selector to the reboiler duty to control the maximum controller output of light impurity composition control in side stream and bottom impurity control in the prefractionator. CS4 adds another high selector to control the light impurity in the sidestream. Surprisingly, when considering the dynamic and even steady state performance of the proposed control structures, CS1 proves to be the best control structure to handle feed disturbances inserted into the three-product Petlyuk column.

The phase equilibria in the Co-Ti-Re ternary system at 800,1000,1100 and 12000C were studied combined with electron probe microanalyzer(EPMA),X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscope(SEM)and transmission electron microscope(TEM).The new phaseτwith a large solubility was discovered at all four isothermal sections,and its structure still needs a further study.A large solubility of Re in the CoTi phase was observed.The solubility of Re in the Co_(3)Ti phase is6.1%at 800℃,8.7%at 1000℃and 7.7%at 1100℃.The present work could be significant for alloy design of Co-based alloys and thermodynamic analysis of the Co-TiRe ternary system.

Tooeleite(Fe6(As03)4 SO4(OH)4·4 H2 O)is widely precipitated for direct As(III)removal from sulfate-rich industrial effluents.However,whether or not Fe(III)-As(III)-Cl(-I)precipitate is produced in chloridizing leaching media for As immobilization is almost unknown.This work founded the existence of ferric arsenite(hydroxy)chloride as a new mineral for As(III)removal.Its chemical composition and solid characterization were subsequently studied by using scanning electron microscope with an energy dispersive spectrometer(SEM-EDS),X-ray diffraction(XRD),infrared(FT-IR),Raman spectroscopy and thermogravimetric(TG)curve.The results showed the formation of a yellow precipitate after 3-days reaction of Fe(III)/As(III)with molar ratio≈1.7 in chloride solution at pH 2.3 neutralized with NaOH.Compared with tooeleite,chemical analysis and solid characterization indicated that Cl(-I)replaces S04(-II)producing ferric arsenite hydroxychloride with formula Fe5(As03)3-Cl2(OH)4·5 H2 O.This new plate shaped solid showed better crytallinity than tooeleite,although it has similar morphology and characteristic bands to tooeleite.The FT-IR bands at 628,964 cm-1 and the Raman bands at 448,610,961 cm-1 were assigned to Fe-O or As(Ⅲ)-O-Fe or As(Ⅲ)-O bending/stretching vibration,indicating that both arsenite and chloride substituted for the position of sulfate for ferric arsenite hydro xychloride produced due to the lack of the SO42-vibrations.Cl-(I)also contributed to increase As removal efficiency in aqueous sulfate media under acidic pH conditions via the probable formation of sulfatechloride ferric arsenite.

Layered double hydroxide(LDH)with special layered structure has been proved to have excellent hole transport capacity and good stability.Herein,we report a high efficient composite photocatalyst of CoAlLDH and BiPO4prepared by hydrothermal and che mical adsorption(denoted as CoAl-LDH/BiPO_(4)).Phenol can be entirely degraded by 1%CoAl-LDH/BiPO_(4)under 30 min ultraviolet(UV)light irradiation,and the degradation rate constants k are 3 times and 39 times higher than that of pure BiPO_(4)and CoAl-LDH,respectively.The enhanced photocatalytic activity can be attributed to effective holes transfer from BiPO4to CoAl-LDH,which hinders the recombination of photo genera ted charge carriers.In addition,the combination of BiPO4and CoAl-LDH avoids the agglomeration of BiPO4and improves the stability of BiPO_(4).Active species capture experiments indicate that superoxide radicals(·O-_(2))are the main active species responsible for the degradation of phenol.This work provides technical approaches and research ideas for solving the photogenerated charge carrier recombination problem of photocatalyst.

Optimizing multistage processes,such as distillation or absorption,is a complex mixed-integer nonlinear programming(MINLP)problem.Relaxing integer into continuous variables and solving the easier nonlinear programming(NLP)problem is an optimization idea for the multistage process.In this article,we propose a relaxation method based on the efficiency parameter.When the efficiency parameter is 1or 0,the proposed model is equivalent to the complete existence or inexistence of the equilibrium stage.And non-integer efficiency represents partial existence.A multi-component absorption case shows a natural penalty for non-integer efficiency,which can assist the efficiency parameter converging to 0 or 1.However,its penalty is weaker than the existing relaxation models,such as the bypass efficiency model.In a simple distillation case,we show that this property can weaken the nonconvexity of the optimization problem and increase the probability of obtaining better optimization results.

In the recent decades,obesity rates among children and adolescents,especially males,have increased significantly.This worldwide phenomenon is thought to significantly affect the levels of sex hormones.However,the association between waist circumference(a marker of abdominal obesity)and sex hormone levels in children and adolescents is unknown.In this study,4031 participants aged 6–19 years from the United States National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(NHANES)in the USA were enrolled in this study.The common confounders of age,race,body mass index,educational level,family income,diabetes,and time of sample collection were also collected.The participants missing any of the above information were excluded from the study.We used multiple linear regression and other multiple statistics to assess the associations between waist circumference and serum testosterone,estradiol,sex hormone-binding globulin(SHBG),free androgen index(FAI),and testosterone/estradiol ratio(T/E2).Waist circumference remained associated with sex hormone levels in children and adolescents after controlling for covariates.As waist circumference increases,testosterone levels in children and adolescents show an overall decline after a brief increase,with the inflection point for waist circumference of 65–66 cm.In addition,waist circumference positively correlates with estradiol levels in male children(β=0.007,95%confidence interval:0.004–0.009).Moreover,circulating SHBG decreases in children and adolescents as waist circumference increases.In conclusion,this study highlighted waist circumference as a vital indicator affecting sex hormone levels in children and adolescents.
