In subjects with type 2 diabetes inadequately controlled with oral antidiabetic agents （OADs）, insulin therapy is usually started to improve glycaemic control after failure of diet, exercise and OADs.1 Although there is no standard way to introduce insulin treatment, premixed formulations are a popular option. Background Recombinant human parathyroid hormone （1-34）（rhPTH （1-34）） is the first agent in a unique class of anabolic therapies acting on the skeleton. The efficacy and safety of long-term administration of rhPTH （1-34） in Chinese postmenopausal women had not been evaluated. This study compared the clinical efficacy and safety of rhPTH （1-34） with elcatonin for treating postmenopausal women with osteoporosis in 11 urban areas of China. Methods A total of 453 postmenopausal women with osteoporosis were enrolled in an 18-month, multi-center, randomized, controlled study. They were randomized to receive either rhPTH （1-34） 20 μg （200 U） daily for 18 months, or elcatonin 20 U weekly for 12 months. Lumbar spine （L1-4） and femoral neck bone mineral density （BMD）, fracture rate, back pain as well as biochemical markers of bone turnover were measured. Adverse events were recorded. Results rhPTH （1-34） increased lumbar BMD significantly more than did elcatonin after 6, 12, and 18 months of treatment （4.3% vs. 1.9%, 6.8% vs. 2.7%, 9.5% vs. 2.9%, P 〈0.01）. There was only a small but significant increase of femoral neck BMD after 18 months （2.6%, P 〈0.01） in rhPTH groups. There were larger increases in bone turnover markers in the rhPTH （1-34） group than those in the elcatonin group after 6, 12, and 18 months （serum bone-specific alkaline phosphatase （BSAP） 93.7% vs. -3.6%; 117.8% vs. -4.1%; 49.2% vs. -5.8%, P 〈0.01; urinary C-telopeptide/creatinine （CTX/Cr） 250.0% vs. -29.5%; 330.0% vs. -41.4%, 273.0% vs. -10.6%, P 〈0.01）. rhPTH （1-34） showed similar effect of pain relief as elcatonin. The incidence of clinical fractures was 5.36% （6/112） in elcatonin group and 3.2% （11/341）in rhPTH （1-34）group （P=0.303）. Both treatments were well tolerated. Hypercaluria （9.4%） and hypercalcemia （7.0%） in rhPTH （1-34） group were transient and caused no clinical symptoms. Pruritus （8.2% vs. 2.7%, P=0.044） and redness of injection site （4.4% vs. 0,P=0.024） were more frequent in rhPTH （1-34）. N

A stable,efficient,and economical bifunctional electrolytic catalyst would be incredibly beneficial for the development of hydrogen production by electrocatalytic water *** this study,we synthesized a novel MnS–MnO heterogeneous nanocube@N,S-doped carbon(MnS–MnO@NSC).MnS–MnO nanocubes possess rich heterogeneous interfaces and plentiful catalytic active sites to promote electrochemical reactions,while the N,S-doped carbon shell possesses excellent conductivity and catalytic properties and protects the ***–MnO@NSC exhibited excellent electrochemical properties as an effective bifunctional electrocatalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction(heR)and oxygen evolution reaction(OER)in KOH *** the heR,the overpotential was as low as 124 mV at a current density of 10 mA·cm^(-2)while in the OER,it was only 340 mV at 100 mA·cm^(-2)under the same *** addition,a MnS–MnO@NSC||MnS–MnO@NSC electrolyzer exhibited almost comparable activity and higher steadiness than those exhibited by the state-of-the-art Pt/C||RuO_(2)/C system for full water splitting in KOH solution.

Silicone rubber(SR) composites are most widely used as thermal interface materials(TIMs) for electronics heat dissipation. Thermal impedance as the main bottleneck limiting the performance of TIMs is usually neglected. herein, the thermal impedance of SR composites loaded with different levels of hexagonal boron nitride(h-BN) as TIMs was elaborated for the first time by the ASTM D 5470 standard test and finite element analysis. It was found that elastic modulus and surface roughness of SR composites increased with the increase of h-BN content, indicating that the conformity was reduced. When the assembly pressure was 0.69 MPa, there existed an optimal h-BN content at which the contact resistance was minimum(0.39 K·cm^(2)·W^(-1)). Although the decreased bond line thickness(BLT) by increasing the assembly pressure was beneficial to reduce the thermal impedance, the proper assembly pressure should be selected to prevent the warpage of the contact surfaces and the increase in contact resistance, according to the compression properties of the SR composites. This study provides valuable insights into fabrication of high-performance TIMs for modern electronic device applications.

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries(ZIBs) combine the benefits of metallic Zn anodes with those of aqueous electrolytes and are well suited for large-scale energy storage because of their inherent high safety, cost-effectiveness, and eco-friendliness. Currently, the practical application of such batteries is hindered by the poor cycling performance of Zn anodes due to uncontrolled dendrite formation and severe side reactions, although recent reports suggest that these problems can be mitigated through the modification of Zn anodes with metal-based *** that the mechanisms of improving Zn deposition and the structural evolution of metal-based materials have not been systematically reviewed, we herein systematically overview the metal-based materials used to stabilize Zn anodes, starting with a brief summary of the anode working mechanism and the challenges faced by stabilized Zn anodes. Subsequently, the design principles of Zn anodes stabilized by metal-based materials and the related recent progress are reviewed, and the key challenges and perspectives for the future development of such Zn anodes are proposed.

Objective To study the effectiveness of waist circumference cut-off values in predicting the prevalence of metabolic syndrome （MetS） and risk factors in adults in China. Methods A cross-sectional survey was condcuted in 14 provinces （autonomous region, municipality） in China. A total of 47 325 adults aged 〉20 years were selected by multistage stratified sampling, and questionnaire survey and physical and clinical examination were conducted among them. MetS was defined according to the International Diabetes Federation （IDF） criteria and modified IDF *** The age-standardized prevalence of MetS was 24.2% （22.1% in men and 25.8% in women） and 19.5% （22.1% in men and 18.0% in women} according to the IDF criteria and modified IDF criteria respectively. The age-standardized prevalence of pre-MetS was 8.1% （8.6% in men and 7.8% in women） according to the modified IDF criteria. The prevalence of MetS was higher in urban residents than rural residents and in northern China residents than in southern China residents. The prevalence of central obesity was about 30% in both men and women according to the ethnicity-specific cut-off values of waist circumference for central obesity （90 cm for men and 85 cm for women）. Multivariate regression analysis revealed no significant difference in risk factors between the two MetS definitions. Conclusion Using both the modified IDF criteria and ethnicity-specific cut-off values of waist circumference can provide more useful information about the prevalence of MetS in China.
