stainless steel is a basic raw material used in many *** can be customized by generating laser-induced periodic surface structure(LIPss)as subwavelength ***,we present the capabilities of an LIPss on stainless steel to modify the polarization state of the reflected radiation at the IR *** structures have been modeled using the finite element method and fabricated by femtosecond laser *** stokes parameters have been obtained experimentally and a model for the shape has been used to fit the simulated stokes values to the experimental *** birefringence of the LIPss is analyzed to explain how they modify the polarization state of the incoming *** find the geometry of the subwavelength grating that makes it work as an optical retarder that transforms a linearly polarized light into a circularly polarized *** addition,the geometrical parameters of the LIPss are tuned to selectively absorb one of the components of the incoming light,becoming a linear axial *** selecting the geometrical parameters and orientation of the fabricated LIPss makes it possible to obtain an arbitrary pure polarization state when illuminated by a pure linearly polarized state oriented at an azimuth of 45°.The overall reflectance of these transformations reaches values close to 60%with respect to the incident intensity,which is the same reflectivity obtained for non-nanostructured stainless steel flat surfaces.

Mindfulness is a psychological technique based on Eastern meditative practices that was developed in the late 1970s by Kabat-Zinn at the University of ***,there was a debate over whether it should be considered a scientific technique or labelled as part of the“new wave”***,mindfulness is omnipresent in modern societies but has suffered from merchandising and banalization,which has been strongly *** some limitations regarding methodological aspects of mindfulness research,it is considered effective for treating many physical and psychological disorders,and even it is recommended in clinical guidelines such the British National Institute for Health and Care *** the last 2500 years,mindfulness practices have moved from Northern India across most of Asia,but their mixing with Western science and culture at the end of the 20^(th)century is considered a key event in recent *** the first time in human history,due to globalization,the wisdom of all contemplative traditions can be shared with all human beings and assessed by *** practices,yoga included,are giving birth to a new field of knowledge,contemplative sciences,which go beyond mindfulness and is devoted to helping humanity to reach higher levels of happiness and mental peace.

Are we ready for telemonitoring inflammatory bowel disease?A review of advances,enablers,and barriers

This review summarizes the evidence about telemonitoring in patients with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD). To give an overview of the advances performed, as well as the enablers and barriers which favoured/hindered telemonitoring implementation. We performed a literature search in Pub Med, EMBAsE, MEDLINE, Cochrane Database, Web of science and Conference Proceedings. Titles and abstracts published up to september 2022 were screened for a set of inclusion criteria: telemonitoring intervention, IBD as the main disease, and a primary study performed. Ninety-seven reports were selected for full review. Finally, 20 were included for data extraction and critical appraisal. Most studies used telemonitoring combined with tele-education, and programs evolved from home telemanagement systems towards web portals through m Health applications. Web systems demonstrated patients’ acceptance, improvement in quality of life, disease activity and knowledge, with a good cost-effectiveness profile in the short-term. Initially, telemonitoring was almost restricted to ulcerative colitis, but new patient reported outcome measures, home-based tests and mobile devices favoured its expansion to different patients’ categories. However, technological and knowledge advances led to legal, ethical, economical and logistic issues. standardization of remote healthcare is necessary, to improve the interoperability of systems as well as to address liability concerns and users’ preferences. Telemonitoring IBD is well accepted and improves clinical outcomes at a lower cost in the short-term. Funders, policymakers, providers, and patients need to align their interests to overcome the emerging barriers for its full implementation.

A prospective analysis of factors that influence weight loss in patients undergoing radiotherapy

Malnutrition occurs frequently in patients with ***,a variety of nutritional and tumorrelated factors must be taken into account in these *** this relationship,we aimed to prospectively evaluate the risk factors that influence weight loss in patients undergoing radiotherapy with oral nutritional supplementation and dietetic *** loss of 74 patients during radiotherapy and 1 month after treatment was *** such as age,gender,tumor location,tumor stage,Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status(ECOG Ps)score,and the use of chemotherapy were analyzed to evaluate their influence on weight *** patients underwent oral nutritional supplementation and dietetic ***-six(65.7%)patients lost weight,with a mean weight loss of(4.73±3.91)kg,during *** 1 month after treatment,45(66.2%)patients lost weight,presenting a mean weight loss of(4.96±4.04)kg,corresponding to a(6.84±5.24)%net reduction from their baseline *** and neck cancer patients had a mean weight loss of(3.25±5.30)kg,whereas the remaining patients had a mean weight loss of(0.64±2.39)kg(P=0.028)during *** the multivariate analysis,the head and neck tumor location(P=0.005),use of chemotherapy(P=0.011),and ECOG Ps score of 2-3(P=0.026)were considered independent risk *** status and parameters,such as tumor location(especially the head and neck),the use of chemotherapy,and the ECOG Ps score,should be evaluated before radiotherapy because these factors can influence weight loss during radiotherapy and 1 month after treatment.
