Association between innate immunity gene polymorphisms and neonatal sepsis development:a systematic review and meta-analysis

Background The aim of this meta-analysis was to analyze all available data from studies investigating associations between polymorphisms in genes responsible for innate immunity and neonatal sepsis *** A comprehensive literature search,reported following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses-S guidelines,was performed with no language *** derived using the PICO(population,intervention,comparison and outcomes)strategy,with data on the genotype distribution for innate immunity gene polymorphisms in newborns with and without *** were analyzed using Review *** Cochran–Mantel–Haenszel test was used to calculate odds ratios with 95%confidence *** was tested using the I2 *** From a total of 9428 possibly relevant articles,33 qualified for inclusion in this systematic *** to the STrengthening the REporting of Genetic Association Studies,23 studies were found to be of moderate quality,while 10 were of low *** results showed an association of the mannose-binding lectin(MBL)exon 1 genetic polymorphism with the risk of culture-proven ***-like receptor(TLR)4 rs4986791 genotype distribution suggests its association with the increased risk of culture-proven *** certainty of evidence per GRADE(Grading of Recommendations,Assessment,Development,and Evaluation)varied from very low to *** bias was not *** Out of the 11 investigated single-nucleotide polymorphisms,this meta-analysis found a possible association between the risk for culture-proven sepsis and MBL exon 1 and TLR4 rs4986791 *** is an evident need for larger well-designed,multicentric observational studies investigating inflammatory gene polymorphisms in neonatal sepsis.

Specific cell subpopulations identified as cancer stem cells(CSCs)can be found in basal cell carcinoma(BCC).Generally,CSCs have a marked trans-differentiation potential that could potentially be used in differentiation ***,there are no studies regarding BCC CSCs *** aim of the study was to analyze the characteristic of CSCs of BCC with emphasis on their differentiation potential upon specific *** staining and cell morphology were used for differentiation confirmation,along with the expression analysis of osteogenic(ALP,BSP,Runx2,OCN,BMP2),chondrogenic(COL1 and COL2A1),adipogenic(PPAR-γ)and neurogenic(Nestin and MAP2)*** CSCs differentiated into osteogenic and chondrogenic lineages,as judged by staining and high expression of specific markers(from 2-to 92-fold higher upon induction).Concomitantly with differentiation,the levels of cancer stem cell markers decreased in the ***-differentiation and neuro-differentiation were *** conclusion,BCC CSCs exhibit the capacity to trans-differentiate,a characteristic that may potentially be useful in the development of new strategies for the treatment of aggressive BCCs.

Real-time assessment of tunnelling-induced damage to structures within the building information modelling framework

Hepatocellular carcinoma and musculoskeletal system: A narrative literature review

Musculoskeletal alterations in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)are less common than liver-related ***,they can significantly impact the quality of life and overall prognosis of patients with *** main obstacle in the clinical assessment of HCC-induced musculoskeletal alterations is related to effective and timely diagnosis because these complications are often asym-ptomatic and unapparent during routine clinical *** narrative literature review aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of the contem-porary literature related to the changes in the musculoskeletal system in patients with HCC,focusing on its clinical implications and underlying etiopathogenetic *** bone metastases are the most common skeletal alterations associated with HCC,which could be associated with an increased risk of low-trauma bone ***,previous studies reported that osteopenia,sarcopenia,and myosteatosis are associated with poor clinical outcomes in patients with *** though low bone mineral density and sarcopenia are consistently reported as reliable predictors of pretransplantation and post-transplantation mortality in HCC patients,these complications are frequently overlooked in the clinical management of patients with *** together,contemporary literature suggests that a multidisciplinary approach is essential for early recognition and clinical management of HCC-associated musculoskeletal alterations to improve patient *** research into the mechanisms and treatment options for musculoskeletal complications is warranted to enhance our understanding and clinical management of this aspect of HCC.

The effect of reactive plasticizer on viscoelastic and mechanical properties of solid rocket propellants based on different types of HTPB resin

Conventional plasticizers deteriorate mechanical and viscoelastic properties of the propellants due to their migration upon aging and long-term storage,which affects reliability and safety properties during *** address this issue,conventional plasticizer,dioctyl adipate(DOA),is replaced by reactive one,castor oil(CO).In addition,three different types of HTPB were used to obtain propellants with designed viscoelastic and mechanical *** CO increased propellants viscosity,without a significant impact on the propellant processability,regardless to the type of ***,mechanical properties were different depending on the type of resin,which were further analyzed by gel permeation chromatography(GPC).Addition of CO formed a denser polymer network and shifted T_(g) to higher values,compared to the compositions with *** tensile strength of CO-containing propellants was lower at +20℃ and +50℃ compared to the reference compositions,while the strain at maximum load and strain at break were significantly increased with pronounced plastic deformation,especially for samples at -30℃.The inclusion of CO in the propellants composition gives more room for adjusting a wide range of mechanical properties.

Impact of Microstructural and Surface Modifications on the Ti-45Nb Alloy’s Response to Bio-Environment

The Ti-45Nb (mass%) alloy’s corrosive and biocompatible response in simulated physiological conditions was investigated before and after its additional high-pressure torsion (HPT) and laser irradiation processing. The grain size reduction from 2.76 µm to ~ 200 nm and the appearance of laser-induced morphologically altered and highly oxidized surface led to the significant improvement of alloy corrosion resistance and cell–implant interaction. Moreover, an additional increase of the laser pulse energy from 5 to 15 mJ during the alloy irradiation in the air led to an increase in the surface oxygen content from 13.64 to 23.89% accompanied by an increase of excellent cell viability from 127.18 to 134.42%. As a result of the controlled alloy microstructural and surface modifications, the formation of protective bi-modal mixed Ti- and Nb-oxide external scale was enabled. The presence of this surface oxide scale enhanced the alloy’s resistance to corrosion deterioration and simultaneously boosted cell viability and proliferation.

BACKGROUND Suprasellar germinomas are rare intracranial tumors frequently associated with permanent endocrine *** present the clinical picture,treatment,and complications of suprasellar germinoma at pediatric age which,besides being lifethreatening,has lifelong endocrinological *** SUMMARY A 12-year-old female patient was presented having had intensive headaches for three weeks and visual disturbances for six *** ophthalmological examination revealed bilateral papilledema and a marked loss of *** brain magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)showed a suprasellar tumor,involving the infundibulum and the optic chiasm,extending to the third *** tests confirmed decreased levels of thyroxine,cortisol,gonadotropins,and insulin-like growth factor *** tumor reduction was performed,and immunohistopathology established the diagnosis of suprasellar *** of the spine and cerebrospinal fluid cytology confirmed the localized *** chemotherapy and radiotherapy were performed according to the SIOP CNS GCT II protocol.A post-treatment MRI showed no residual tumor,but pituitary function had not *** and a half years after the end of the treatment,the patient is in a complete remission,requiring hormonal replacement therapy,continuous education,and psychological *** This complex case highlights the importance of timely diagnosis,a multidisciplinary approach,and close follow-up in children with suprasellar germinomas.
