On a Novel Extended Lomax Distribution with Asymmetric Properties and Its Statistical Applications

In this article,we highlight a new three-parameter heavy-tailed lifetime distribution that aims to extend the modeling possibilities of the Lomax *** is called the extended Lomax *** considered distribution naturally appears as the distribution of a transformation of a random variable following the logweighted power distribution recently introduced for percentage or proportion data analysis *** a result,its cumulative distribution has the same functional basis as that of the Lomax distribution,but with a novel special logarithmic term depending on several *** modulation of this logarithmic term reveals new types of asymetrical shapes,implying a modeling horizon beyond that of the Lomax *** the first part,we examine several of its mathematical properties,such as the shapes of the related probability and hazard rate functions;stochastic comparisons;manageable expansions for various moments;and quantile *** particular,based on the quantile functions,various actuarial measures are *** the second part,the distribution’s applicability is investigated with the use of themaximumlikelihood *** behavior of the obtained parameter estimates is validated by a simulation *** claim data are *** show that the proposed distribution outperforms eight well-known distributions,including the Lomax distribution and several extended Lomax *** addition,we demonstrate that it gives preferable inferences from these competitor distributions in terms of risk measures.

Warped product manifolds are known to have applications in physics. For instance, they provide an excellent setting to model space-time near a black hole or a massive star （cf. [9]）. The studies on warped product manifolds with extrinsic geometric point of view were intensified after the B.Y. Chen＇s work on CR-warped product submanifolds of Kaehler manifolds （cf. [6], [7]）. Later on, similar studies were carried out in the setting of 1.c.K. manifolds and nearly Kaehler manifolds （el. [3], [11]）. In the present article, we investigate a larger class of warped product submanifolds of 1.c.K. manifolds, ensure their existence by constructing an example of such manifolds and obtain some important properties of these submanifolds. With regard to the CR-warped product submanifold, a special case of generic warped product submanifolds, we obtain a characterization under which a CR-submanifold is reducesd to a CR-warped product submanifold.

Multi-scale habitat selection and impacts of climate change on the distribution of four sympatric meso-carnivores using random forest algorithm

Background:The habitat resources are structured across different spatial scales in the environment,and thus animals perceive and select habitat resources at different spatial *** to adopt the scale-dependent framework in species habitat relationships may lead to biased ***-scale species distribution models(SDMs)can thus improve the predictive ability as compared to single-scale *** study outlines the importance of multi-scale modeling in assessing the species habitat relationships and may provide a methodological framework using a robust algorithm to model and predict habitat suitability maps(HSMs)for similar multi-species and multi-scale ***:We used a supervised machine learning algorithm,random forest(RF),to assess the habitat relationships of Asiatic wildcat(Felis lybica ornata),jungle cat(Felis chaus),Indian fox(Vulpes bengalensis),and golden-jackal(Canis aureus)at ten spatial scales(500-5000 m)in human-dominated *** calculated out-of-bag(OOB)error rates of each predictor variable across ten scales to select the most influential spatial scale *** scale optimization(OOB rates)indicated that model performance was associated with variables at multiple spatial *** species occurrence tended to be related strongest to predictor variables at broader scales(5000 m).Multivariate RF models indicated landscape composition to be strong predictors of the Asiatic wildcat,jungle cat,and Indian fox *** the same time,topographic and climatic variables were the most important predictors determining the golden jackal *** models predicted range expansion in all four species under future climatic ***:Our results highlight the importance of using multiscale distribution models when predicting the distribution and species habitat *** wide adaptability of meso-carnivores allows them to persist in human-dominated regions and may even thrive in disturbed habi

Essential oils of Origanum compactum increase membrane permeability,disturb cell membrane integrity,and suppress quorum-sensing phenotype in bacteria

The aim of this study was to investigate antibacterial activity of Origanum compactum essential oils collected at three phenological stages on Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis. The antibacterial activity was evaluated using the agar-well diffusion assay. The MIC and MBC values were determined using the micro-dilution assay. The investigation of the antibacterial action was carried out by the evaluation of the effect of O. compactum essential oils on the antibacterial kinetic growth, the integrity of cell membrane and permeability of the cell membrane. The anti-quorum sensing activity was tested by the inhibition of the biofilm formation. The findings of this study showed that O. compactum essential oil has potent antibacterial activities against E. coli and B. subtilis. The lowest inhibition value against B. subtilis was obtained with O. compactum essential oil at the post-flowering stage (MIC=MBC=0.0312%(v/v)). The antibacterial mechanisms of O. compactum essential oils are related to the disturbing of the cell membrane integrity and the increasing of the membrane permeability, which leads to the leakage of genetic materials (DNA and RNA). Moreover, O. compactum essential oils inhibited the formation of the biofilms, a phenotype that has been known to be quorum sensing regulated.

This paper introduces a two-layer network to investigate the effects of cortico-thalamic circuits on the cortex’s collective *** the brain,different parts of the cortex collaborate to process *** of the main parts,which is the path of different cortex contacts,is the thalamus whose circuit is referred to as the"vertical"cortico-thalamic *** subnuclei can participate in the processing of the information that passes through *** has been shown that they play the functional role of logic gates(AND,OR and XOR).To study how these thalamus circuits affect the cortical neuron behavior,a two-layer network is proposed wherein the cortex layer is composed of Hindmarsh–Rose models and the thalamus layer is constructed with logic *** show that considering these logic gates can lead the network towards different synchronization,asynchronization,chimera and solitary *** is revealed that for AND-gate and OR-gate,increasing the number of gates or their outputs can increase and decrease the network’s coherency in excitatory and inhibitory cases,***,considering XOR-gates always results in the chimera state.

Synthesis of poly（3,4-propylenedioxythiophene）/MnO2 composites and their applications in the adsorptive removal of methylene blue

The poly（3,4-propylenedioxythiophene）/Mn O2composites（PPro DOT/Mn O2） were prepared successfully by soaking the PPro DOT powders into potassium permanganate（KMn O4） solution, with the mass ratio of PPro DOT and KMn O4from 2:1 to 1:2. The structure and morphology of composites were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy（FTIR）, Raman spectroscopy, ultraviolet–visible absorption spectra（UV）, X-ray diffraction（XRD）, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy（EDX） and field emission scanning electron microscope（FE-SEM）.Furthermore, PPro DOT/Mn O2composites were tested as the adsorbents for removal of methylene blue（MB） from aqueous solution. The results revealed that the composites were successfully synthesized, and the thiophene sulfur was oxidized into sulfoxide by KMn O4. The highest percentage removal of MB after 30 min was 91% for PPro DOT/Mn O2（1:2） composite, and the percentage removal of MB was 12 mg g（-1）after 60 min at initial concentrations of MB dye of 5.6 mg L-1in the case of PPro DOT/Mn O2（1:2） composite. Besides, the adsorption process of PPro DOT/Mn O2（1:2） composite was described by pseudo-second-order and Langmuir models.

Successful immunological treatment of gallbladder cancer in India―Case report

Gallbladder cancer has a poor outcome because of its anatomy and location. Often, the diagnosis is made very late due to its silent course. Post-operated cases do respond to chemotherapy but the survival is counted in months and the quality of life is further hampered due to toxicity of drugs. Immunotherapy holds good promise in non-responding cancers treated by conventional chemotherapeutic agents. Among various therapies, dendritic cell therapy is growing at rapid pace due to its acceptable rationale. It has been utilized in treating successfully resected stage Ill （T2, N1, M0） gallbladder cancer in one of our patients. A 48 years old lady treated with this therapy is free of metastasis with ten doses of autologous dendritic cell vaccine constructed by utilizing resected tumor lysate antigen. She has received ten doses of therapy in 14 months of her treatment. This therapy has proven to be safe and without apparent side effects. The positive clinical response obtained supports that autologous dendritic cell-based immunotherapy is a promising therapeutic approach for refractory gallbladder cancers.
