Electrochemical performance of thermally-grown SiO2 as diffusion barrier layer for integrated lithium-ion batteries

Direct integration of lithium-ion battery （LIB） with electronic devices on the same Si substrate can significantly miniaturize autonomous micro systems. For achieving direct integration, a barrier layer is essential to be inserted between LIB and the substrate for blocking Li^＋ diffusion. In this paper, the feasibility of thermal SiOa film as the barrier layer is investigated by electrochemical characterization and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS）. Due to the negligible side reactions of thermal SiO2 with electrolyte, the solid electrolyte interphase （SEI） layer formed on the surface of the barrier layer is thin and the SEI content mainly consists of hydrocarbon together with slight polyethylene oxide （PEO）, LixPOyFz, and Li2CO3. Although 8-nm thermal SiO2 effectively prevents the substrate from alloying with Li^＋, the whole film changes to Li silicate after electrochemical cycling due to the irreversible chemical reactions of SiO2 with electrolyte. This degrades the performance of the barrier layer against the electrolyte penetration, thus leading to the existence of Li^＋（in the form of F-Si-Li） and solvent decompositions （with the products of hydrocarbon and PEO） near the barrier layer/substrate interface. Moreover, it is found that the reaction kinetics of thermal SiO2 with electrolyte decrease significantly with increasing the SiO2 thickness and no reactions are found in the bulk of the 30-nm SiO2 film. Therefore, thermal SiO2 with an appropriate thickness is a promising barrier layer for direct integration.

The ionic liquids(ILs) [Cnmim][Pro](n = 4, 5, 6)(1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium propionate) were prepared by the neutralization method and characterized by 1H-NMR spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC). Using isothermogravimetrical analysis, the vapor pressures in the temperature range of 423.1563.15 K and the enthalpy of vaporization, △g lHo m(Tav), at the average temperature, Tav, for these ILs were determined [1-2]. The difference of heat capacities between the vapor phase and the liquid phase, △g lCp o m, for [Cnmim][Pro](n = 4, 5, 6) were calculated based on the statistical thermodynamics using Verevkin’s method. Therefore, in terms of △g lCp o m, the value of △g lHo m(Tav) can be transformed into △g lHo m(298). Based on Clausius-Clapeyron equation, the hypothetical temperature of normal boiling point(NBP), Tb for [Cnmim][Pro](n = 4, 5, 6) were estimated. In terms of Tb, the values of entropy and the Gibbs free energy of vaporization for these ILs were predicted at different temperatures. Based on Hildebrand’s theory a new method to predict the polarity of the ILs was put forward. The order of the predicted polarity for the ILs is in good agreement with the experiment value.

In situ digital testing method for quality assessment of soft soil improvement with polyurethane

This study purposes an in situ testing method on quality assessment of soil *** drilling data includes the spatial distribution and in situ strength of untreated and treated soil along three different drillholes measured by on-site drilling monitoring *** factual drilling data can characterize the degree of soil improvement by penetration injection with permeable *** from on-site drilling monitoring shows that the linear zones represent constant drilling speeds shown in the plot of drill bit advancement *** drilling time,which indicates the spatial distributions of soil *** soil profile at the study site is composed of four layers,which includes fill,untreated silty clay,treated silty clay,and mucky *** results of soil profile are verified by the parallel site *** constant drilling speeds profile the coring-resistant strength of drilled *** comparing with the untreated silty clay,the constant drilling speeds of the treated silty clay have been decreased by 13.0-62.8%.Two drilling-speed-based indices of 61.2%and 65.6%are proposed to assess the decreased average drilling speed and the increased in situ strength of treated silty *** tests,*** compressive strength(UCS)test,have been performed with core sample to investigate and characterize in situ strength by comparing that with drilling *** show that the average predicted strengths of treated silty clay are 2.4-6.9 times higher than the average measured strength of untreated silty *** UCS-based indices of 374.5%and 344.2%verified the quality assessment(QA)results by this new in situ *** method provides a cost-effective tool for quality assessment of soil improvement by utilizing the digital drilling data.

Four Late-type Galaxies with Double Radio Lobes and Properties of Such Galaxies

The triggering mechanism for radio lobes from late-type galaxies is not fully *** samples are desired for a thorough investigation and *** utilizing the optical data from the newly released Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument imaging surveys and the radio sources from the NRAO VLA Sky Survey and the Faint Images of the Radio Sky at Twenty-centimeter,we identify four Late-type Galaxies with double Radio Lobes(La GRLs):j0217-3645,j0947+6220,j1412+3723 and j1736+*** previously known La GRLs,we confirm the correlation between radio power P_(1.4GHz)and stellar mass M_(*)of host ***(25/35)La GRLs belong to the blue cloud galaxies,while the newly identified cases in this work are located within the region of the red *** find a clear correlation between the differential radio power,i.e.,the offset from the P_(1.4GHz)-M_(*)relation,and the galaxy color,indicating that bluer galaxies at a fixed M_(*)tend to host more powerful radio ***,the majority(31/36)of La GRLs are either located in a galaxy group or displaying a disturbed *** suggest that all of the galaxy mass,color and surrounding environment could play important roles in triggering radio lobes in late-type galaxies.

SIz1-mediated SUMOylation of CPSF100 promotes plant thermomorphogenesis by controlling alternative polyadenylation

Under warm temperatures, plants adjust their morphologies for environmental adaption via precise gene expression regulation. However, the function and regulation of alternative polyadenylation (APA), an important fine-tuning of gene expression, remains unknown in plant thermomorphogenesis. In this study, we found that SUMOylation, a critical post-translational modification, is induced by a long-term treatment at warm temperatures via a SUMO ligase SIz1 in Arabidopsis. Disruption of SIz1 altered the global usage of polyadenylation signals and affected the APA dynamic of thermomorphogenesis-related genes. CPSF100, a key subunit of the CPSF complex for polyadenylation regulation, is SUMOylated by SIz1. Importantly, we demonstrated that SUMOylation is essential for the function of CPSF100 in genome-wide polyadenylation site choice during thermomorphogenesis. Further analyses revealed that the SUMO conjugation on CPSF100 attenuates its interaction with two isoforms of its partner CPSF30, increasing the nuclear accumulation of CPSF100 for polyadenylation regulation. In summary, our study uncovers a regulatory mechanism of APA via SIz1-mediated SUMOylation in plant thermomorphogenesis. Copyright © 2024 The Author. Published by Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Compressive property and energy absorption characteristic of interconnected porous Mg-zn-Y alloys with adjusting Y addition

In this study,interconnected porous Mg-2zn-xY alloys with different phase compositions were prepared by various Y additions(x=0.4,3,and 6 wt.%)to adjust the compressive properties and energy absorption *** characterization methods were then applied to identify the microstructure of the porous Mg-zn-Y and describe the details of the second *** tests were performed at room temperature(RT),200℃,and 300℃to study the impact of the Y addition and testing temperature on the compressive properties of the porous *** experimental results showed that a high Y content promotes a microstructure refinement and increases the volume fraction of the second *** the Y content increases,different Mg-zn-Y ternary phases appear:I-phase(Mg_(3)zn_(6)Y),W-phase(Mg_(3)zn_(3)Y_(2)),and LPSO phase(Mg_(12)znY).When the Y content ranges between 0.4%and 6%,the compressive strength increases from 6.30MPa to 9.23 MPa,and the energy absorption capacity increases from 7.33 Mj/m^(3)to 10.97 Mj/m^(3)at RT,which is mainly attributed to the phase composition and volume fraction of the second ***,the average energy absorption efficiency is independent of the Y *** addition,the compressive deformation behaviors of the porous Mg-zn-Y are altered by the testing *** compressive strength and energy absorption capacity of the porous Mg-zn-Y decrease due to the softening effect of the high temperature on the *** deformation behaviors at different temperatures are finally observed to reflect the failure mechanisms of the struts.

Granger causal representation learning for groups of time series

Discovering causality from multivariate time series is an important but challenging *** existing methods focus on estimating the Granger causal structures among multivariate time series,while ignoring the prior knowledge of these time series, e.g., the group of the time series. Focusing on discovering the Granger causal structures among groups of time series, we propose a Granger causal representation learning method to solve this problem. First, we use the multiset canonical correlation analysis method to learn the Granger causal representation of each group of time series. Then, we model the Granger causal relationships among the learned Granger causal representations using a recurrent neural network with temporal information. Finally, we formulate the above two stages into one unified optimization problem, which is efficiently solved using the augmented Lagrangian method. We conduct extensive experiments on synthetic and real-world datasets to validate the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed method.

Studies have shown that adult growth hormone deficiency leads to alterations in bone remodeling, significantly affecting bone microarchitecture and increasing fracture risk. Although recombinant human growth hormone replacement therapy can mitigate these adverse effects, improving bone density, and reduce fracture risk, its effectiveness in treating osteoporosis, especially in adults with established growth hormone deficiency, seems limited. Bisphosphonates inhibit bone resorption by targeting farnesyl pyrophosphate synthase in osteoclasts, and clinical trials have confirmed their efficacy in improving osteoporosis. Therefore, for adult growth hormone deficiency patients with osteoporosis, the use of bisphosphonates alongside growth hormone replacement therapy is recommended.

Greatly enhanced corrosion/wear resistances of epoxy coating for Mg alloy through a synergistic effect between functionalized graphene and insulated blocking layer

The poor corrosion and wear resistances of Mg alloys seriously limit their potential applications in various *** conventional epoxy coating easily forms many intrinsic defects during the solidification process,which cannot provide sufficient *** the current study,we design a double-layer epoxy composite coating on Mg alloy with enhanced anti-corrosion/wear properties,via the spin-assisted assembly *** outer layer is functionalized graphene(FG)in waterborne epoxy resin(WEP)and the inner layer is Ce-based conversion(Ce)*** FG sheets can be homogeneously dispersed within the epoxy matrix to fill the intrinsic defects and improve the barrier *** Ce film connects the outer layer with the substrate,showing the transition *** corrosion rate of Ce/WEP/FG composite coating is 2131 times lower than that of bare Mg alloy,and the wear rate is decreased by~90%.The improved corrosion resistance is attributed to the labyrinth effect(hindering the penetration of corrosive medium)and the obstruction of galvanic coupling *** synergistic effect derived from the FG sheet and blocking layer exhibits great potential in realizing the improvement of multi-functional integration,which will open up a new avenue for the development of novel composite protection coatings of Mg alloys.
