Improving bermudagrass in the Southeastern United States with alfalfa as an alternative nitrogen source in grazing systems

Background Bermudagrass(Cynodon spp.)is one of the most common perennial warm-season forages grown in the Southeastern United *** incorporation of alfalfa(Medicago sativa)into bermudagrass pastures could serve as an alternative source of nitrogen(N)while also improving the nutritive value of the forage *** A 2-year grazing evaluation arranged in a randomized complete block design was conducted from May to September 2018(Year 1)and May–August 2019(Year 2)in Tifton,GA,*** objective was to compare the production of alfalfa–bermudagrass mixed pastures(BGA)with bermudagrass monoculture pastures with(BGN)or without(BG)the application of synthetic nitrogen on forage production and stocker cattle *** Differences were observed for average daily gain(p=0.10),gain per hectare(p=0.02)and stocking rate(p=0.01),in that BGA was greatest compared to BGN and BG,which did not differ from each ***,BGA had increased forage crude protein(p=0.01)and total digestible nutrients(p=0.01)compared to BGN and ***,BGA provided the greatest economic return per hectare compared to BG or *** These data illustrate improved animal performance and forage nutritive value using alfalfa–bermudagrass systems and offer a viable option for producers seeking alternatives to synthetic N sources for bermudagrass pastures in the Southeastern United States.

Impact of transjugular intrahepatic porto-systemic shunt on post liver transplantation outcomes: Study based on the United Network for Organ Sharing database

AIMTo determine the impact of transjugular intrahepatic porto-systemic shunt (TIPS) on post liver transplantation (LT) outcomes. METHODSUtilizing the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) database, we compared patients who underwent LT from 2002 to 2013 who had underwent TIPS to those without TIPS for the management of ascites while on the LT waitlist. The impact of TIPS on 30-d mortality, length of stay (LOS), and need for re-LT were studied. For evaluation of mean differences between baseline characteristics for patients with and without TIPS, we used unpaired t-tests for continuous measures and χ2 tests for categorical measures. We estimated the impact of TIPS on each of the outcome measures. Multivariate analyses were conducted on the study population to explore the effect of TIPS on 30-d mortality post-LT, need for re-LT and LOS. All covariates were included in logistic regression analysis. RESULTSWe included adult patients (age ≥ 18 years) who underwent LT from May 2002 to September 2013. Only those undergoing TIPS after listing and before liver transplant were included in the TIPS group. We excluded patients with variceal bleeding within two weeks of listing for LT and those listed for acute liver failure or hepatocellular carcinoma. Of 114770 LT in the UNOS database, 32783 (28.5%) met inclusion criteria. Of these 1366 (4.2%) had TIPS between the time of listing and LT. We found that TIPS increased the days on waitlist (408 ± 553 d) as compared to those without TIPS (183 ± 330 d), P P P = 0.001) by TIPS to LOS. CONCLUSIONTIPS did increase time on waitlist for LT. More importantly, TIPS was not associated with 30-d mortality and re-LT, but it did lengthen hospital LOS after transplantation.

Colletotrichum species are the most important and widespread form of decay affecting mango fruit *** this study,Colletotrichum species associated with fruit anthracnose isolated from mango in northeastern Brazil were subject to molecular and morphological *** partial sequences of the glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase gene of 143 Colletotrichum isolates was amplified,as an initial measure of genetic diversity.A subset of 47 isolates,selected to represent the range of genetic diversity and geographic origin,were further sequenced using the partial actin,β-tubulin,calmodulin,glutamine synthetase genes and rDNA-ITS *** multilocus sequence analysis,together with a critical examination of the phenotypic characters,revealed four previously described species(Colletotrichum asianum,Colletotrichum fructicola,Colletotrichum tropicale and Colletotrichum karstii)and one new *** new species is introduced as Colletotrichum dianesei and formally described,illustrated and compared with similar *** *** and *** have previously been reported from mango,while the other species represent the first report associated with the mango fruits *** species are reported for the first time associated with the mango fruits in Brazil.

Due to a paucity of surveys in northern Indochina and lack of international collaborations among neighboring countries, recognized distributional ranges for many amphibian and reptile species end at the political borders for some countries, despite seemingly continuous suitable habitat spanning the region. Combining both morphological and genetic data, we report the first discovery of japalura chapaensis, a rare agamid lizard believed previously to be endemic to northern Vietnam only, along the border region of southeastern Yunnan Province,China. To facilitate future research on the genus japalura sensu lato in Indochina, we provide detailed descriptions of additional specimens of this rare species, including the first description of coloration in life and an expanded diagnosis, and discuss the species boundary of j. chapaensis with respect to its congeners.

Quantitative assessment of sensory functions after 3 surgical approaches for trigeminal neuralgia by current perception threshold measurement

Objective： To quantitatively identify and grade trigeminal sensory functions after 3 major surgical procedures of trigeminal neuralgia using a newly developed quantitative sensory testing technique, current perception threshold measurement （CPTM）. Methods： In the current study, there were 48 trigeminal neuralgia patients without history of prior surgical treatment. These patients received one of the following 3 surgical procedures, microvascular decompression （MVD）, peripheral nerve block with alcohol （PNB）, or percutaneous radiofrequency thermocoagulation （PRFT）. The quantitative sensory testing measurement, CPTM, and conventional qualitative sensory testing measurements were performed preoperatively and postoperatively to evaluate and grade the trigeminal sensory functions All 3 major cutaneous sensory fiber types, large myelinated fibers （A beta）, small myelinated fibers （A delta） and unmyelinated fibers（C） were allowed to quantitatively evaluate and grade by CPTM. The results of the measurements were statistically analyzed using a one-way analysis of variance （single factor）. Each subject was his/her own control for comparison of the preoperative to postoperative state on the asymptomatic and symptomatic sides. Subjects were tested 48 h preoperatively and 4 weeks postoperatively. Results： PNB with alcohol and PRFT caused significant sensory dysfunction postoperatively in every fiber type, indicating damage to all fibers. On the contrary, the sensory function in all 3 fiber types was unchanged after MVD management. Conclusion： Among the 3 major surgical procedures tested, only MVD preserves sensory function in trigeminal system. CPTM is of quantitative nature on the evaluation of sensory functions of nerve fibers

小脑性共济失调与血管扩张症 (A-T)是一种常染色体隐性遗传性疾病 ,具多效表型。此病的特征是小脑变性、免疫缺陷、生长迟缓、早熟性衰老、染色体不稳定、肿瘤易患体质和对辐射的过度敏感。目前尚未发现有效的方法阻断此病的进行性发展。基因治疗是此病的潜在希望。ATM是此病的致病基因 ,编码 ATM蛋白激酶。本研究将 ATM c DNA完整的读码框架克隆进 1型单纯疱疹病毒 (HSV-1)扩增子载体 (p TO-ATM)。培养的 A-T细胞经 p TO-ATM病毒载体转导后 ,用免疫组织化学方法证明了 ATM在这些细胞的异位表达。为了进一步研究在活体应用此载体系统的可能性 ,选择大鼠脑作为实验靶区。先用免疫组织化学方法观察了内源性 ATM在成年大鼠前脑和小脑的正常分布 ,发现在尾壳核有低水平的 ATM出现 ,而在其余脑区 ,ATM水平则显著地高于尾壳核区。将 p TO-ATM病毒载体注射到成年大鼠的一侧尾壳核 ,3 d后在注射区 (包括针道周围的区域 )观察到密集的 ATM免疫反应阳性神经元。本研究结果证明 ,HSV扩增子病毒载体可以稳定地运载相当大的 c DNA片段 ,转基因在离体和活体均能有效地表达。本研究为使用基因治疗的方法治疗

Effects of Feeding OmniGen-AF<sup>®</sup>during Superovulation on <i>in Vitro</i>Development of Embryos Recovered from Donor Beef Cows

Embryo quality is crucial when selecting embryos for transfer. Variation in quality may be attributed to poor oocytes, semen, stress, inflammation, and potential immune system dysregulation. OmniGen-AF® (OG) feeding supports immune system function and animal health. Our laboratory recently reported lower percent degenerate embryos recovered and increased plasma progesterone in beef cattle donors fed OG during superovulation. In vitro development of embryos recovered from donor cows fed OG prior to collection is presented here. Embryos were recovered from 24 beef cows assigned to four treatment groups: 0 g OG/hd/d and 200 mg Folltropin®-V (FSH) (0/200);0 g OG/hd/d and 400 mg FSH (0/400), 56 g OG/hd/d, 200 mg FSH (56/200) and 56 g OG/hd/d and 400 mg FSH (56/400). Good to excellent quality early blastocysts were cultured for 8 d. and development through hatching, embryonic volume and plasminogen activator (PA) production were quantified. The complete protocol was repeated 90 - 120 d later as Replicate 2. Van der Waals interactions are ubiquitous in the world, and have been recognized as critical to most important properties of natural matters including proteins and DNA(deoxyribonucleic acid). In chemical and biochemical envi ronments,mode rn empirical app ro aches like Grimme ’s D3 method allow for fast evaluation of these forces in electronic-structure calculations. However, this and related methods are based on London’s approximation to the van der Waa ls force as arising from pairwise-additive atomic fluctuations and polarizations. Recently,the Dobson classification was introduced to understand the shortcomings of such approaches, shortcomings particularly relevant for low-dimensional molecules and conductors such as graphene, C, large aromatic molecules, and nanotubes. An important experimental characterisation of non-additive effects was the recent demonstration the placing a graphene layer between a silica substrate and silica AFM tip switches off the van der Waals inter action between tip and substrate through a Faraday-cage screening effect. We develop computational models to understand this effect, comparing the pairwise-additive D3 method to the popular many-bond dispersion(MBD) method for treating screening, and a new method developed by Gould to include and improve not only these contributions but also those from long-range fluctuations(related to the Casimir effect).

Systematic review with meta-analysis on transplantation for alcohol-related liver disease:Very low evidence of improved outcomes

BACKGROUND Alcohol-related liver disease(ALD) is a leading cause of liver failure and indication for liver transplantation that arises in the setting of alcohol use disorder(AUD). Previous reviews of transplantation for ALD are limited in scope of outcomes and type of ALD studied. A comprehensive systematic review could improve use of transplantation in ALD and improve future research. We hypothesize that while transplanting ALD may improve mortality and relapse,findings will be limited by pre-specified causes of heterogeneity-assessment and treatment of AUD, definition of ALD, spectrum of ALD studied, assessment and rates of relapse, and study quality and *** To optimize liver transplantation for ALD, understanding existing research to guide future research, we conducted a systematic review with *** We conducted a systematic review, comparing liver transplant to no-transplant in patients with ALD, with a primary outcome of both short-and long-term mortality and relapse. We performed a comprehensive search of MEDLINE,EMBASE, Web of Science, and The Cochrane Library databases for peer-reviewed journal articles comparing use of liver transplant in ALD to no-transplant. Two reviewers independently conducted screening, full text review, and data extraction according to the PRISMA guidelines. We report the quality of the evidence according to the GRADE *** We analyzed data from 10 studies. Of 1332 participants, 34.2%(456/1332) had undergone liver transplantation, while 65.8%(876/1332) had not. While random effects meta-analysis suggested transplant in comparison to no-transplant had an association of reduced mortality that did not reach statistical significance, relative risk(RR) = 0.51(0.25-1.05), but not relapse risk, RR = 0.52(0.18-1.53), significant heterogeneity limited these findings.
