Clinical significance of lymphadenectomy in patients with gastric cancer

Approximately thirty percent of patients with gastric cancer undergo an avoidable lymph node dissection with a higher rate of postoperative complication. Comparing the D1 and D2 dissections,it was found that there is a significant difference in morbidity,favoured D1 dissection without any difference in overall survival. Subgroup analysis of patients with T3 tumor shows a survival difference favoring D2 lymphadenectomy,and there is a better gastric cancer-related death and non-statistically significant improvement of survival for node-positive disease in patients with D2 dissection. However,the extended lymphadenectomy could improve stage-specific survival owing to the stage migration phenomenon. The deployment of centralization and application of national guidelines could improve the surgical outcomes. The japanese and European guidelines enclose the D2 lymphadenectomy as the gold standard in R0 resection. In the individualized,stageadapted gastric cancer surgery the Maruyama computer program(MCP) can estimate lymph node involvement preoperatively with high accuracy and in addition the Maruyama Index less than 5 has a better impact on survival,than D-level guided surgery. For these reasons,the preoperative application of MCP is recommended routinely,with an aim to perform "low Maruyama Index surgery". The sentinel lymph node biopsy(SNB) may decrease the number of redundant lymphadenectomy intraoperatively with a high detection rate(93.7%) and an accuracy of 92%. More accurate stage-adapted surgery could be performed using the MCP and SNB in parallel fashion in gastric cancer.

Influence of free water availability on a desert carnivore and herbivore

Anthropogenic manipulation of finite resources on the landscape to benefit individual species or communities is commonly employed by conservation and management agencies. One such action in arid regions is the construction and maintenance of water developments （i.e., wildlife guzzlers） adding free water on the landscape to buttress local populations, influence animal movements, or af- fect distributions of certain species of interest. Despite their prevalence, the utility of wildlife guzzlers remains largely untested. We employed a before-after control-impact （BACI） design over a 4-year period on the US Army Dugway Proving Ground, Utah, USA, to determine whether water avaijability at wildlife guzzlers influenced relative abundance of black-tailed jackrabbits Lepus californicus and relative use of areas near that resource by coyotes Canis latrans, and whether coyote visitations to guzzlers would decrease following elimination of water. Eliminating water availability at guzzlers did not influence jackrabbit relative abundance. Coyote relative use was impacted by water availability, with elimination of water reducing use in areas associated with our treatment, but not with areas associated with our control. Visitations of radio-collared coyotes to guzzlers declined nearly 3-fold following elimination of water. Our study provides the first evidence of a potential direct effect of water sources on a mammalian carnivore in an arid environment, but the ecological relevance of our finding is debatable. Future investigations aimed at determining water effects on terrestrial mam- mals could expand on our findings by incorporating manipulations of water availability, obtaining absolute estimates of population parameters and vital rates and incorporating fine-scale spatiotem- poral data.

We present the complete set of physical and geometrical parameters of the visual close binary system Gj 9830 for the first time by applying Al-Wardat’s complex *** method combines magnitude difference from speckle interferometry,synthetic spectral energy distributions of the binary components which are constructed based on grids of Kurucz blanketed models(ATLAS9),and the orbital solution using Tokovinin’s dynamical method to estimate the parameters of individual *** analysis of the system by employing synthetic photometry resulted in the following set of parameters:Teff= 6220 ± 100 K,log g = 4.30 ± 0.12,R = 1.10 ± 0.08 R⊙for the primary component and Teff= 4870 ± 100 K,log g = 4.60 ± 0.11,R = 0.709 ± 0.07 R⊙for the secondary *** recently published dynamical parallax from the Gaia space mission was used to calculate the total mass of the binary system as 1.75 ± 0.06 M⊙,which coincides with those estimated using Al-Wardat’s method as MA= 1.18 ± 0.10 M⊙,MB= 0.75 ± 0.08 M⊙.The analysis of the system reveals that both components are characteristic of main sequence stars and have an age of around 1.4 ± 0.50 *** evolutionary tracks and isochrones of the system’s components are discussed,and the fragmentation process is suggested as the most likely process for the formation of the system.

Perfusion magnetic resonance imaging of the liver

Perfusion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies quantify the microcirculatory status of liver parenchyma and liver lesions, and can be used for the detection of liver metastases, assessing the effectiveness of antiangiogenic therapy, evaluating tumor viability after anticancer therapy or ablation, and diagnosis of liver cirrhosis and its severity. In this review, we discuss the basic concepts of perfusion MRI using tracer kinetic modeling, the common kinetic models applied for analyses, the MR scanning techniques, methods of data processing, and evidence that supports its use from published clinical and research studies. Technical standardization and further studies will help to establish and validate perfusion MRI as a clinical imaging modality.

Self-referencing turns pulsed laser systems into self-referenced frequency *** frequency combs allow counting of optical frequencies and have a wide range of *** required optical bandwidth to implement self-referencing is typically obtained via nonlinear broadening in optical *** advances in the field of Kerr frequency combs have provided a path toward the development of compact frequency comb sources that provide broadband frequency combs,exhibit microwave repetition rates and are compatible with on-chip photonic *** devices have the potential to significantly expand the use of frequency *** to date,self-referencing of such Kerr frequency combs has only been attained by applying conventional,fiber-based broadening *** we demonstrate external broadening-free self-referencing of a Kerr frequency *** optical spectrum spanning two-thirds of an octave is directly synthesized from a continuous wave laser-driven silicon nitride microresonator using temporal dissipative Kerr soliton formation and soliton Cherenkov *** this coherent bandwidth and two continuous wave transfer lasers in a 2f–3f self-referencing scheme,we are able to detect the offset frequency of the soliton Kerr frequency *** stabilizing the repetition rate to a radio frequency reference,the self-referenced frequency comb is used to count and track the continuous wave pump laser’s *** work demonstrates the principal ability of soliton Kerr frequency combs to provide microwave-to-optical clockworks on a chip.

Galvanically induced potentials to enable minimal tribochemical wear of stainless steel lubricated with sodium chloride and ionic liquid aqueous solution

The effect of galvanically induced potentials on the friction and wear behavior of a 1 RK91 stainless steel regarding to tribocorrosion was investigated using an oscillating ball-on-disk tribometer equipped with an electrochemical cell. The aim of this investigation is to develop a water-based lubricant. Therefore 1 molar sodium chloride(NaCl) and 1% 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride [C_2 mim][Cl] water solutions were used. Tribological performance at two galvanically induced potentials was compared with the non-polarized state: cathodic potential-coupling with pure aluminum- and anodic potential-coupling with pure copper. Frictional and electrochemical response was recorded during the tests. In addition, wear morphology and chemical composition of the steel were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), respectively. The galvanically induced cathodic polarization of the stainless steel surface results in electrochemical corrosion protection and the formation of a tribolayer. Cations from the electrolyte(sodium Na^+ and 1-ethyl- 3-methylimidazolium [C_2 mim]^+) interact and adhere on the surface. These chemical interactions lead to considerably reduced wear using 1 NaC l(86%) and 1% 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride [C_2 mim][Cl](74%) compared to the nonpolarized system. In addition, mechanical and corrosive part of wear was identified using this electrochemical technique. Therefore this method describes a promising method to develop water-based lubricants for technical applications.

Enhancing production monitoring: A back allocation methodology to estimate well flow rates and assist well test scheduling

Production flow rates are crucial to make operational decisions,monitor,manage,and optimize oil and gas *** rates also have a financial importance to correctly allocate production to fiscal purposes required by regulatory agencies or to allocate production in fields owned by multiple *** its significance,usually only the total field production is measured in real time,which requires an alternative way to estimate wells'*** address these challenges,this work presents a back allocation methodology that leverages real-time instrumentation,simulations,algorithms,and mathe-matical programming modeling to enhance well monitoring and assist in well test *** methodology comprises four modules:simulation,classification,error calculation,and *** modules work together to characterize the flowline,wellbore,and reservoir,verify simulation outputs,minimize errors,and calculate flow rates while honoring the total platform flow *** well status generated through the classification module provides valuable information about the current condition of each well(*** the well is deviating from the latest well test parameters),aiding in decision-making for well testing scheduling and *** effectiveness of the methodology is demonstrated through its application to a representative offshore oil field with 14 producing wells and two years of daily production *** results highlight the robustness of the methodology in properly classifying the wells and obtaining flow rates that honor the total platform flow ***,the methodology supports well test scheduling and provides reliable indicators for well *** uti-lizing real-time data and advanced modeling techniques,this methodology enhances production monitoring and facilitates informed operational decision-making in the oil and gas industry.

A Compact Self-Isolated MIMO Antenna System for 5G Mobile Terminals

A compact self-isolated Multi Input Multi Output (MIMO) antennaarray is presented for 5G mobile phone devices. The proposed antenna systemis operating at the 3.5 GHz band (3400–3600 MHz) and consists of eight antennaelements placed along two side edges of a mobile device, which meets the currenttrend requirements of full-screen smartphone devices. Each antenna element isdivided into two parts, a front part and back part. The front part consists of anI-shaped feeding line and a modified Hilbert fractal monopole antenna, whereasthe back part is an L-shaped element shorted to the system ground by a0.5 mm short stub. A desirable compactness can be obtained by utilizing the Hilbert space-filling property where the antenna element’s overall planar size printedon the side-edge frame is just (9.57 mm × 5.99 mm). The proposed MIMO antenna system has been simulated, analyzed, fabricated and tested. Based on the selfisolated property, good isolation (better than 15 dB) is attained without employingadditional decoupling elements and/or isolation techniques, which increases system complexity and reduces the antenna efficiency. The scattering parameters,antenna efficiencies, antenna gains, and antenna radiation characteristics areinvestigated to assess the proposed antenna performance. For evaluating the proposed antenna array system performance, the Envelope Correlation Coefficients(ECCs), Mean Effective Gains (MEGs) and channel capacity are *** antenna and MIMO performances are evaluated to confirm the suitability of the proposed MIMO antenna system for 5G mobile terminals.

Breeding wheat for drought tolerance： Progress and technologies

Recurrent drought associated with climate change is among the principal constraints to global productivity of wheat（Triticum aestivum（L.） and T. turgidum（L.））. Numerous efforts to mitigate drought through breeding resilient varieties are underway across the world. Progress is, however, hampered because drought tolerance is a complex trait that is controlled by many genes and its full expression is affected by the environment. Furthermore, wheat has a structurally intricate and large genome. Consequently, breeding for drought tolerance requires the integration of various knowledge systems and methodologies from multiple disciplines in plant sciences. This review summarizes the progress made in dry land wheat improvement, advances in knowledge, complementary methodologies, and perspectives towards breeding for drought tolerance in the crop to create a coherent overview. Phenotypic, biochemical and genomics-assisted selection methodologies are discussed as leading research components used to exploit genetic variation. Advances in phenomic and genomic technologies are highlighted as options to circumvent existing bottlenecks in phenotypic and genomic selection, and gene transfer. The prospects of further integration of these technologies with other omics technologies are also provided.
