Predictive biomarkers in precision medicine and drug development against lung cancer

The molecular characterization of various cancers has shown that cancers with the same origins,histopathologic diagnoses,and clinical stages can be highly heterogeneous in their genetic and epigenetic alterations that cause tumorigenesis.A number of cancer driver genes with functional abnormalities that trigger malignant transformation and that are required for the survival of cancer cells have been *** agents targeting some of these cancer drivers have been successfully developed,resulting in substantial improvements in clinical symptom amelioration and outcomes in a subset of cancer ***,because such therapeutic drugs often benefit only a limited number of patients,the successes of clinical development and applications rely on the ability to identify those patients who are sensitive to the targeted ***,biomarkers that can predict treatment responses are critical for the success of precision therapy for cancer patients and of anticancer drug *** review discusses the molecular heterogeneity of lung cancer pathogenesis;predictive biomarkers for precision medicine in lung cancer therapy with drugs targeting epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR),anaplastic lymphoma kinase(ALK),c-ros oncogene 1 receptor tyrosine kinase[ROSl),and immune checkpoints;biomarkers associated with resistance to these therapeutics;and approaches to identify predictive biomarkers in anticancer drug *** identification of predictive biomarkers during anticancer drug development is expected to greatly facilitate such development because it will increase the chance of success or reduce the attrition ***,such identification will accelerate the drug approval process by providing effective patient stratification strategies in clinical trials to reduce the sample size required to demonstrate clinical benefits.

Sea spray induced air-sea heat and salt fluxes based on the wavesteepnessdependent sea spray model

Sea spray,which comprises amounts of small ocean droplets,plays a significant role in the air-sea coupling,atmospheric and oceanic dynamics,and ***,it remains arduous to arrive at estimates for the efficiency and accuracy of the sea spray induced air-sea heat and salt *** is because the microphysical process of sea spray evolution in the air is of extreme *** this study,we iteratively calculated the sea spray induced air-sea heat and salt fluxes at various weather *** do so,we implemented one novel wave-steepness-dependent sea spray model into a bulk air-sea fluxes algorithm and utilized other sea spray models as *** on the improved wave-dependent bulk turbulent algorithm,we observed that despite the negative contribution of sea spray to the sensible heat fluxes,the sea spray positively contributes to the air-sea latent heat fluxes,leading to an overall increase in the total air-sea heat *** additional heat fluxes caused by sea spray may be the missing critical process that can clarify the discrepancies observed between measured and modelled Tropical Cyclone’s development and *** addition to heat fluxes,we observed that sea spray has significant impacts on the air-sea salt *** the sea salt particles are one of the main sources of the atmosphere aerosol,our results imply that sea spray could impact global and regional ***,given the significance of sea spray on the air-sea boundary layer,sea spray effects need to be considered in studies of air-sea interaction,dynamics of atmosphere and ocean.

Effect of corrosion behavior of cast and extruded ZK60 magnesium alloys processed via friction extrusion

The increasing demand for high-strength,corrosion-resistant magnesium alloys in transportation has led to the development of new processing *** this work,cast and extruded ZK60 magnesium alloys were processed using the innovative solid-phase process,Friction Extrusion(FE).The microstructure was analyzed using Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM),and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy(EDS),showing a marked reduction in grain size,uniform solute distribution(Zn and Zr),and second phases after FE ***,optical micrographs and Electron Backscatter Diffraction(EBSD)were employed to further evaluate the alloy *** corro-sion resistance and electrochemical behavior were analyzed using potentiodynamic polarization,Scanning Electrochemical Cell Impedance Microscopy(SECCIM),and atomic emission spectroelectrochemistry analysis(AESEC).Time evolution surface imaging and post-corrosion microstructures were also analyzed to support the understanding of underlying corrosion *** initiation and propagation in FE-processed samples followed grain boundary patterns,differing from cast and extruded ZK60 *** measurements and in-situ time-dependent optical imaging demonstrated that FE processing enhanced corrosion potential,reduced corrosion current,and increased cathodic ***,FE processing reduced the disparity in pitting potential between cast and extruded samples,resulting in intermediate pitting *** Mg and lower Zn dissolution was observed in the lower anodic currents for FE-processed *** aggravated anodic current cycles,Mg dissolution equalized,but the Zn/Mg dissolution ratio increased for FE-processed extruded samples,suggesting less cathodic activation and better resistance to further pitting.

Sediment transport can be modelled using hydrodynamic models based on shallow water equations coupled with the sediment concentration conservation equation and the bed con-servation *** complete system of equations is made up of the energy balance law and the Exner *** numerical solution for this complete system is done in a seg-regated ***,the hyperbolic part of the system of balance laws is solved using a finite volume *** ways to compute the numerical flux have been considered,the Q-scheme of van Leer,the HLLCS approximate Riemann solver,and the last one takes into account the presence of non-conservative products in the *** discretisation of the source terms is carried out according to the numerical flux *** the second stage,the bed conservation equation is solved by using the approximation computed for the system of balance *** numerical schemes have been validated making comparisons between the obtained numerical results and the experimental data for some physical *** numerical results show a good agreement with the experimental data.

Friction stir processing and post process artificial ageing was successfully carried out on AA7075 with and without reinforcement of SiC particles producing defect free processed zone with uniform distribution of filler *** of SiC particle reinforcement and artificial ageing times on the microstructural modifications was characterized using optical and electron microscopy,electron backscattered diffraction and X-Ray ***,impact and wear tests were carried out to investigate mechanical behaviour before and after *** of SiC particles during FSP and subsequent age hardening treatment brought about nearly twofold increase in hardness and impact toughness values by the combined effect of grain refinement,Zener pinning,dispersion strengthening and precipitation *** improvement in wear resistance in terms of wear loss was also observed after processing compared to the reference material *** surface of post FSP age hardened AA7075 alloy exhibited features of ductile fracture during Charpy impact test.

Large sized power transformers are important parts of the power supply chain. These very critical networks of engineering assets are an essential base of a nation＇s energy resource infrastructure. This research identifies the key factors influencing transformer normal operating conditions and predicts the asset management lifespan. Engineering asset research has developed few lifespan forecasting methods combining real-time monitoring solutions for transformer maintenance and replacement. Utilizing the rich data source from a remote terminal unit （RTU） system for sensor-data driven analysis, this research develops an innovative real-time lifespan forecasting approach applying logistic regression based on the Weibull distribution. The methodology and the implementation prototype are verified using a data series from 161 kv transformers to evaluate the efficiency and accuracy for energy sector applications. The asset stakeholders and suppliers significantly benefit from the real-time power transformer lifespan evaluation for maintenance and replacement decision support.

This paper explores the mathematical model for couple stress fluid flow through an annular region. The above model is used for studying the blood flow be-tween the clogged （stenotic） artery and the catheter. The asymmetric nature of the stenosis is considered. The closed form expressions for the physiological parameters such as impedance and shear stress at the wall are obtained. The effects of various geomet-ric parameters and the parameters arising out of the fluid considered are discussed by considering the slip velocity and tapering angle. The study of the above model is very significant as it has direct applications in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

Study of engine performance, emission and combustion characteristics fueled with diesel-like fuel produced from waste engine oil and waste plastics

Utilizing oil extracted from waste engine oil and waste plastics, by pyrolysis, as a filel for internal combustion engines has been demonstrated to be one of the best available waste management methods. Separate blends of fuel from waste engine oil and waste plastic oil was prepared by mixing with diesel and experimental investigation is conducted to study engine performance, combustion and exhaust emissions. It is observed that carbon monoxide （CO） emission increases by 50% for 50% waste plastic oil （50WPO：50D） and by 58% for 50% waste engine oil （50WEO：50D） at full load as compared to diesel. Unburnt hydrocarbon （HC） emission increases by 16% for 50WPO：50D and by 32% for 50WEO：50D as compared to diesel at maximum load. Smoke is fotmd to decrease at all loading conditions for 50WPO：50D operation, but it is comparatively higher for 50WEO：50D operation. 50WPO：50D operation shows higher brake thermal efficiency for all loads as compared to 50WEO：50D and diesel fuel operation. Exhaust gas temperature is higher at all loads tbr 50WPO：50D and 50WEO：50D as compared to diesel fuel operation.
