The harvesting process of the olive tree is mainly performed by manual means,because traditional olive orchards(the main planting typology)are formed of irregular,large-canopy trees that are very difficult to harvest *** that reason,the cost of harvesting is very high,and it threatens the future of these plantations whose conversion to other more modern layouts is not always possible due to several *** introduction of a harvester may represent the technological change that is the key factor for improved *** main purpose of this work was to develop a harvester based on canopy shaker technology for work on irregular,large trees in a circular *** design of the harvester was based on a determination of tree geometry,together with tree *** tests were used to determine machine-tree interaction,and to evaluate the removal,catch frame and driven *** proposed innovation allowed the fully mechanical harvest of previously planted trees with a removal efficiency of over 84%,achieving an effective field capacity of 0.21 hm^(2)/*** the results so far have been promising,further improvements are advisable in machine and tree adaptation.

Aims Intercropping legumes and non-legumes may affect the root growth of both components in the mixture,and the non-legume is known to be strongly favored by increasing nitrogen(N)*** knowledge of how root systems affect the growth of the individual species is useful for understanding the interactions in intercrops as well as for planning cover cropping *** aim of this work was(i)to determine if different levels of N in the topsoil influence root depth(rD)and intensity of barley and vetch as sole crops or as an inter-cropped mixture and(ii)to test if the choice of a mixture or the N availability in the topsoil will influence the N uptake by deep *** In this study,we combined rhizotron studies with root extraction and species identification by microscopy with studies of growth,N uptake and 15N uptake from deeper soil layers,for studying the root interactions of root growth and N foraging for barley(Hordeum vul-gare l.)and vetch(Vicia sativa l.),frequently grown in mixtures as cover crops.N was added at 0(N0),50(N1)and 150(N2)kg N ha−*** roots discrimination relying on the anatomical and morphologi-cal differences observed between dicots and monocots proved to be a reliable method providing valuable data for the *** Findingsthe intercrop and the barley attained slightly higher root intensity(rI)and rD than the vetch,with values around 150 crosses m−1 and 1.4 m,respectively,compared to 50 crosses m−1 and 0.9 m for the *** deep soil layers,intercropping showed slightly larger rI values compared to the sole-cropped *** barley and the intercropping had larger root length density(r D)values(200-600 m m−3)than the vetch(25-130)at 0.8-1.2 m *** topsoil N supply did not show a clear effect on the rI,rD or r D;however,increasing topsoil N favored the proliferation of vetch roots in the intercropping at deep soil layers,with the barley:vetch root ratio ranging from 25 at N0 to 5 at *** N uptake of the barley was

Hydroclimate affects the radial growth responses of trees, but the drivers of their spatial and population variability are not sufficiently understood. We addressed this issue by sampling several conifer populations located at the same latitude, but at different longitude and elevation in western(W) and eastern(E) Mexican regions. We used dendroecology to disentangle how earlywood width(EW), latewood width(LW) and adjusted LW(LWadj),i.e. the residuals after removing EW influences on LW, responded to climate variables(temperature and precipitation), climate indices(Southern Oscillation Index, SOI, Nino 3.4, Pacific Decadal Oscillation, PDO) and a drought index(Standardised Precipitation-Evapotranspiration Index, SPEI). The W species(Pinus herrerae Martinez, Pinus durangensis Martinez, Abies durangensis Martínez and Cupressus lusitanica Mill.) showed lower growth rates than the E species(Pinus hartwegii Lindl., Picea mexicana Martinez, Pseudotsuga menziesii(Mirb.) Franco and Abies vejari Martinez). Growth in W benefits mostly from high precipitation in the prior winter and current spring and it is limited by high temperatures in spring, whereas growth in the E showed similar but weaker ***, positive(negative) correlations were found in radial growth with the Nino 3.4(SOI) and the PDO from the prior to current autumns, which were again stronger in absolute terms in the W than in the E regions,excepting SOI in summer. In the W, P. durangensis and C. lusitanica were the least and most responsive species to spring drought, respectively;whilst P. menziesii and A. vejari were very responsive to spring drought compared to P. hartwegii in the E. Our results suggest greater responsiveness to hydroclimate and atmospheric patterns in the W than in the E region. La0.7Sr0.3Cr0.4Mn0.6O3-δperovskite nanoparticles have been synthetized using an ethylene glycol modified solgel method and impregnated by Cu0.75Ni0.25nanoparticles. The phase transitions and nucleation kinetics were studied by time resolved x-ray diffraction, rietveld, raman spectroscopy and high resolution transmission electron microscopy. Findings have shown that, an atomic disorder dominates from room temperature to 400 °C. Nanoparticles with crystal size rt through nuclei formation of La0.7Sr0.3Cr0.4Mn0.6O3-δand SrCrO4solid solutions with Pm3m cubic and P21/n monoclinic symmetry respectively in the range of 600–650 °C. Symmetry reduction from the Pm3m→r3c space group had been obtained at a lower temperature（750 °C） than those reported in the literature in oxygen atmosphere and it was confirmed by an octahedral distortion, which takes place in the crystallographic direction[221]/（122）. The johnson-Mehl-Avrami model had described the whole process, where the existence of two phases was shown before it reached its complete D3d6point group symmetry.

Mammalian fertilization is a highly regulated process, much of which are not clearly understood. Here we presentsome information in order to elaborate a working hypothesis for this process, beginning with the sperm modifications inthe epidydimis up to sperm and egg plasmalemma interaction and fusion. We also discuss the still poorly understood ca-pacitation process, the phenomenon of sperm chemo-attraction that brings the capacitated sperm to interact with theoocyte vestments and certain aspects of the acrosome reaction. AIM:To examine whether acupuncture can prevent prolonged postoperative ileus(PPOI)after intraperitoneal surgery for colon cancer. METHODS:Ninety patients were recruited from the Fudan University Cancer Hospital,Shanghai,China. After surgery,patients were randomized to receive acupuncture(once daily,starting on postoperative day 1, for up to six consecutive days)or usual *** was defined as an inability to pass flatus or have a bowel movement by 96 h after *** main outcomes were time to first flatus,time to first bowel movement, and *** outcomes were quality of life(QOL)measures,including pain, nausea,insomnia,abdominal distension/fullness,and sense of well-being. rESULTS:No significant differences in PPOI on day 4 (P=0.71)or QOL measures were found between the *** were also no group differences when the data were analyzed by examining those whose PPOI had resolved by day 5(P=0.69)or day 6(P= 0.88).No adverse events related to acupuncture were reported. CONCLUSION:Acupuncture did not prevent PPOI andwas not useful for treating PPOI once it had developed in this population.

The recent global spread of the pandemic underscores the necessity of seeking new materials effective against microorganisms. Nanotechnology offers avenues for developing multifunctional materials. In this study, alpha-titanium phosphate (α-TiP) nanoparticles were synthesized and treated with silver salt to enhance their antimicrobial properties. The physicochemical characteristics and antimicrobial activity were evaluated. It was revealed by X-ray diffraction analysis that the structural integrity of α-TiP was influenced by ethylenediamine and silver ions. Distinct degradation profiles for each chemical modification were shown by thermogravimetric analysis. Infrared spectroscopy detected shifts and new absorption peaks in the spectra depending on the type of modification. Energy dispersive spectroscopy confirmed the disaggregation of α-TiP galleries following the addition of silver salt, which increased their effectiveness against microorganisms. Notably, only the sample treated with silver ions exhibited antimicrobial action. Antimicrobial activity was tested against the bacteria of medical importance Escherichia coli, Salmonella Enteritidis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Listeria momocytogenes and the yeast Candida albicans. All microorganisms were inhibited by sample containing silver. Minor inhibition was observed against the Gram-positive bacteria L. monocytogenes and Bacillus cereus, while the greatest inhibition occurred against the fungus (yeast) C. albicans. The results revealed a potential application of the nanoparticles for control of microorganisms in public health.
