Maximizing biomass utilization: An integrated strategy for coproducing multiple chemicals

Lignocellulosic biomass is one of the viable solutions to alleviate the global warming. However, the limited utilization of biomass maj.r.y focused on cellulose and hemicellulose restricts the economic and environmental feasibilities. To cope with this issue, we proposed an integrated process of co-producing 1,6-hexanediol（1,6-HDO） with tetrahydrofuran and adipic acid from biomass, referred to as Strategy A. To compare the impacts of lignin upgrading and feedstock, Strategy B, which co-produces tetrahydrofuran alone, and Strategy C, which is the traditional route to produce 1,6-HDO from fossil fuels, were used. Heat networks are also designed to reduce operating costs and indirect carbon emissions due to energy consumption, saving 87% and 83% of the heat and cooling requirements, respectively, in Strategy A. The market competitiveness of Strategy A was evaluated by determining the minimum selling price through techno-economic analysis, and sustainability was thoroughly investigated by quantifying the environmental impacts through both midpoint and endpoint life-cycle assessments（LCAs）.Strategy A was found to be the most favorable both economically（USrDSCHArDOLLAr3,402/ton） and environmentally（-26.9 kg CO2eq.）. This indicates that lignin valorization is not only economically but also environmentally preferred. Finally, changes in economic and environmental feasibilities depending on economic, process, and environmental parameters were investigated using sensitivity and uncertainty analyses. The results of these analyses provide valuable insight into bio-based chemical production.

目的确定多期相多层CT扫描中的强化表现是否有助于透明细胞癌(rCC)与嗜酸细胞瘤、乳头状肾细胞癌及嫌色细胞肾癌的鉴别。材料与方法本回顾性研究经机构审查委员会批准并符合HIPAA标准,从入组的298例术前行多层CT的4期增强(平扫、皮髓质期、肾实质期和排泄期)扫描的rCC及嗜酸细胞瘤病人的病例中收集病理学数据。共170例透明细胞肾癌、57例乳头状肾细胞癌、49例嗜酸细胞瘤、22例嫌色细胞肾癌病人行多期相增强CT检查,并采用t检验进行比较。应用截止分析确定鉴别4组病变的最佳阈值水平。结果透明细胞肾癌和嗜酸细胞瘤的强化均值在皮髓质期达到顶点;乳头状和嫌色细胞肾癌的强化均值在实质期达到顶点。透明细胞肾癌在皮髓质期(125HU∶106HU,P=0.045)和排泄期(80HU∶67HU,P=0.034)的强化程度高于嗜酸细胞瘤;在皮髓质期(125HU∶54HU,P<0.001)、实质期(103HU∶64HU,P<0.001)、排泄期(80HU∶54HU,P<0.001)的强化程度高于乳头状肾细胞癌;在皮质期(125HU∶74HU,P<0.001)和排泄期(80HU∶60HU,P=0.008)的强化程度高于嫌色细胞肾癌。强化的阈值有助于区分透明细胞肾癌与嗜酸细胞瘤、乳头状肾细胞癌和嫌色细胞肾癌,精确度分别为77%(83/108)、85%(101/119)和84%(81/97)。结论若以前瞻性研究证实,透明细胞肾癌在多层CT多期相扫描中的强化特征有助于其与嗜酸细胞瘤、乳头状肾细胞癌及嫌色细胞肾癌的鉴别。

The aim of this editorial is to evaluate the evidence for using pimavanserin for the treatment of Parkinson's disease psychosis(PDP)from randomized controlled trials(rCTs).We only identified two published trials that evaluated the use of pimavanserin among individuals with *** studies found that pimavanserin improved psychotic symptoms among individuals with PDP when compared to *** was fairly well tolerated in both studies and did not appear to cause significant sedation or worsen motor symptoms among individuals with ***,given the limited data,additional confirmatory studies are required before pimavanserin can be considered as a first line agent for the treatment of psychotic symptoms among individuals with PD.

Subtypes of functional dyspepsia

Functional dyspepsia is a common clinical condition characterised by chronic or recurrent upper abdominal pain or discomfort commonly associated with a variety of associated gastrointestinal symptoms and a normal endoscopy. To standardise research-based approaches, an initial categorisation of into sub groups was agreed to, based on clusters of symptoms. However the early expectation that these subgroups would be associated with distinct pathophysiologies amenable to specific therapy has not been realised. A classification based on the most troublesome symptom has been suggested but the utility of this is also unclear. More recent data suggest that some of the pathophysiologic dysfunctions may be associated with specific symptoms and so provide a better tool for grouping patients. But this approach remains incomplete as current insights into the pathogenesis are still too limited for this to be satisfactory. In conclusion, no classification provides for an adequate treatment-based approach to the syndrome of functional dyspepsia. As a consequence treatment remains largely empiric.

Hypothesized summative anal physiology score correlates but poorly predicts incontinence severity

To explore the relationship between such a construct and an existing continence score. METHODSA retrospective study of incontinent patients who underwent anal physiology (AP) was performed. AP results and Cleveland Clinic Continence Scores (CCCS) were extracted. An anal physiology score (APS) was developed using maximum resting pressures (MrP), anal canal length (ACL), internal and external sphincter defects and pudendal terminal motor latency. Univariate associations between each variable, APS and CCCS were assessed. Multiple regression analyses were performed. rESULTSOf 508 (419 women) patients, 311 had both APS and CCCS measured. Average MrP was 51 mmHg (SD 23.2 mmHg) for men and 39 mmHg (19.2 mmHg) for women. Functional ACL was 1.7 cm for men and 0.7 cm for women. Univariate analyses demonstrated significant associations between CCCS and MrP (P = 0.0002), ACL (P = 0.0006) and pudendal neuropathy (P r only 9.2% of the variability in CCCS. Multiple regression showed that the variables most useful in predicting CCCS were external sphincter defect, pudendal neuropathy and previous pelvic surgery, but only improving the scores predictive ability to 12.5%. CONCLUSIONThis study shows that the ability of AP tests to predict continence scores improves when considered collectively, but that a constructed summation model before and after multiple regression is poor at predicting the variability in continence scores.

Modelling sulphate-enhanced cadmium uptake by Zea mays from nutrient solution under conditions of constant free Cd^(2+) ion activity

A controlled hydroponic experiment was undertaken to investigate Cd uptake in relation to the activity of Cd species in solution other than the free ion （Cd^2＋） by maintaining a constant Cd^2＋ activity under variable SO4^2- and Cl^- concentrations exposed to maize （Zea mays vat. Cameron） plants. The objectives of these experiments were：（1） to distinguish and quantify the different uptake rates of free and inorganic-complexed Cd from nutrient solution, and （2） to model the uptake of Cd by maize with a Biotic Ligand Model （BLM） in a system which facilitates the close examination of root characteristics. results of the current experiments suggest that, in addition to the free ion, CdSO4^0 complexes are important factors in determining Cd uptake in nutrient solution by maize plants. Higher nominal SO4^2- concentrations in solution generally resulted in a greater Cd accumulation by maize plants than predicted by the Cd^2＋ activity. A better integration of the complete dataset for the 3 harvest times （6, 9 and 11 days after treatment） was achieved by including consideration of both the duration of Cd exposure and especially the root surface area to express Cd uptake. Similarly, the fit of the BLM was also improved when taking into account exposure time and expressing uptake in terms of root morphological parameters.

Effects of Processing Parameters on Microstructure and Properties of Ultra High Strength Linepipe Steel

To examine the effect of processing parameters on microstructural evolution and to obtain the excellent combination of strength and toughness, simulation of thermo-mechanical processing was conducted using the Gleeble machine. Trial production was then conducted under the conditions obtained by Gleeble tests. Based on the results of microstructure analysis and mechanical property evaluation, the relationship between microstructural features and mechanical properties was elucidated. The result shows that the volume fraction of constituted phases can be controlled through adjusting the cooling rate and finish cooling temperature in order to get different strength levels. As cooling rate increases, the volume fraction of upper bainite increases, which leads to the increase of strength. The upper shelf energy （USE） increases with increasing volume fraction of acicular ferrite in bainite base because of the small effective acicular ferrite grain size. Ductile-brittle transition temperature （DBTT） decreases with increasing acicular ferrite volume fraction. High reduction in the rough stage has great influence on grain refinement.
