A Zn‐based coating with durable hydrophobicity and good corrosion resistance was formed on a mild steel substrate,which involves electroplating Zn from a non‐aqueous electrolyte,followed by passivation in an oleic acid(OA)*** electrodeposited Zn coatings were porous,which facilitated the formation of a chemical conversion layer of Zn oleate(ZO)during OA *** Zn coating after passivation had a twolayer structure,which included an outer layer of ZO with a thickness of~26μm and an inner layer of Zn with a thickness of~6μ*** outer layer ZO is a type of metal soap with a smooth surface and durable hydrophobicity,such that water droplets can easily slip off its *** testing and electrochemical measurements in 3.5 wt.%NaCl aqueous solution indicate that the Zn coating after OA passivation exhibits outstanding anti‐corrosion properties compared with those exhibited by pure Zn *** corrosion products and mechanism of the two‐layer coating were *** study shows that smooth metal oleate coatings can provide hydrophobicity and corrosion resistance simultaneously to mild steel substrates.

We synthesized a potassium gadolinium phosphate K3Gd(pO_(4))_(2)with monoclinic structure(p2_(1/m))by the high-temperature solid-state reaction *** lattice constants obtained by Rietveld refinements of XRD curve are a=0.7411 nm,b=0.5624 nm,and c=0.9433 *** and magnetocaloric properties of K_(3)Gd(pO_(4))_(2)were investigated in *** magnetic phase transition temperature of K3Gd(pO_(4))2 was determined by ultra-low temperature testing to be 0.58 K.K_(3)Gd(pO_(4))2 exhibits large magnetic entropy changes(-ΔSM).The maximum-ΔSM are 20.2 and 29.4 j/(kg·K)in the magnetic field variation(ΔH)of 1 and 2 T,respectively,which are larger than that of the commercial Gd_(3)Ga_(5)O_(12)(GGG).The maximum adiabatic temperature change(ΔT_(ad))reaches 5.91 K under a magnetic field change(ΔH)of 1 T.K_(3)Gd(pO_(4))_(2)is a potential magnetic refrigeration material for obtaining sub-Kelvin temperatures.

Traditional hydrometallurgical methods for recovering spent lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)involve acid leaching to simultaneously extract all valuable metals into the *** methods usually are followed by a series of separation steps such as precipitation,extraction,and stripping to separate the individual valuable *** this study,we present a process for selectively leaching lithium through the synergistic effect of sulfuric and oxalic *** optimal leaching conditions(leaching time of 1.5 h,leaching temperature of 70°C,liquid-solid ratio of 4 mL/g,oxalic acid ratio of 1.3,and sulfuric acid ratio of 1.3),the lithium leaching efficiency reached89.6%,and the leaching efficiencies of Ni,Co,and Mn were 12.8%,6.5%,and 21.7%.X-ray diffraction(XRD)and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer(ICp-OES)analyses showed that most of the Ni,Co,and Mn in the raw material remained as solid residue oxides and *** study offers a new approach to enriching the relevant theory for selectively recovering lithium from spent LIBs.

Accumulation of aggregated α-synuclein(α-syn) in Lewy bodies is the pathological hallmark of parkinson's disease(pD). Genetic mutations in lipid metabolism are causative for a subset of patients with parkinsonism. The role of α-syn's lipid interactions in its function and aggregation is recognized, yet the specific lipids involved and how lipid metabolism issues trigger α-syn aggregation and neurodegeneration remain unclear. Here, we found that α-syn shows a preference for binding to lysophospholipids(LpLs),particularly targeting lysophosphatidylcholine(LpC) without relying on electrostatic interactions. LpC is capable of maintaining α-syn in a compact conformation, significantly reducing its propensity to aggregate both in vitro and within cellular environments. Conversely, a reduction in the production of cellular LpLs is associated with an increase in α-syn accumulation. Our work underscores the critical role of LpLs in preserving the natural conformation of α-syn to inhibit improper aggregation, and establishes a potential connection between lipid metabolic dysfunction and α-syn aggregation in pD.

The phytohormone auxin,and its directional transport through tissues,plays a fundamental role in the development of higher *** polar auxin transport predominantly relies on pIN-FORMED(pIN)auxin ***,pIN polarization is crucial for development,but its evolution during the rise of morpho-logical complexity in land plants remains ***,we performed a cross-species investigation by observing the trafficking and localization of endogenous and exogenous pINs in two bryophytes,physco-mitrium patens and Marchantia polymorpha,and in theflowering plant Arabidopsis *** confirmed that the GFp fusion did not compromise the auxin export function of all examined pINs by using a radioac-tive auxin export assay and by observing the phenotypic changes in transgenic *** pINs polarize tofilamentous apices,while exogenous Arabidopsis pINs distribute symmetrically on the membrane in both *** the Arabidopsis root epidermis,bryophytic pINs have no defined *** interference revealed a strong cytoskeletal dependence of bryophytic but not Arabidopsis pIN *** divergence of pIN polarization and trafficking is also observed within the bryophyte clade and between tissues of individual *** results collectively reveal the divergence of pIN traf-ficking and polarity mechanisms throughout land plant evolution and the co-evolution of pIN sequence-based and cell-based polarity mechanisms.

Camptothecin is a complex monoterpenoid indole alkaloid with remarkable antitumor *** that two C-10 modified camptothecin derivatives,topotecan and irinotecan,have been approved as potent anticancer agents,there is a critical need for methods to access other aromatic ringfunctionalized congeners(e.g.,C-9,C-10,etc.).However,contemporary methods for chemical oxidation are generally harsh and low-yielding when applied to the camptothecin scaffold,thereby limiting the development of modified *** herein,we have identified four tailoring enzymes responsible for C-9 modifications of camptothecin from Nothapodytes tomentosa,via metabolomic and transcriptomic *** consist of a cytochrome p450(Nt CpT9H)which catalyzes the regioselective oxidation of camptothecin to 9-hydroxycamptothecin,as well as two methyltransferases(Nt OMT1/2,converting 9-hydroxycamptothecin to 9-methoxycamptothecin),and a uridine diphosphate-glycosyltransferase(Nt UGT5,decorating 9-hydroxycamptothecin to9-β-D-glucosyloxycamptothecin).Importantly,the critical residues that contribute to the specific catalytic activity of Nt CpT9H have been elucidated through molecular docking and mutagenesis *** work provides a genetic basis for producing camptothecin derivatives through metabolic *** will hasten the discovery of novel C-9 modified camptothecin derivatives,with profound implications for pharmaceutical manufacture.

Comeld^TM joints: A Novel Technique for Bonding Composites and Metal

Current and future structural applications for composite laminates frequently involve design solutions combining composite laminates and metal; the materials must be joined. Two conventional means of joining are available mechanical joining and adhesive bonding. Both methods have critical disadvantages. A novel surface treatment for metals developed at TWI, Surfi-Sculpt, leads to the formation of surface protrusions on metal surfaces. These protrusions are typically 1.0 mm high and 0.6 mm in diameter. The surface modified metal can be bonded with composite laminates to form a Comeld～TM joint. These joints can be described as a combination of mechanical fastening and adhesive bonding. This paper describes our current work using finite element modelling to optimize the protrusions in respect to their geometry and distribution. The simulations require multi-scale modelling techniques to transfer results between the global model of the whole joint and the unit cell models containing a protrusion. Results from the simulations show critical effects on stress distributions arising from changing protrusion geometry. These joints show significant advantages over conventional adhesive joining technologies and their application would allow improved performance for combinations of metal and composite laminates.
