To control secondary flows, streamwise fences were attached to end wall of a linear turbine rotor cascade. The cascade had 8 blades of 400 mm long and 175 mm chord. The blades deflected the flow by 120°. The fences were made out of 0.7 mm thick brass sheet and the heights of the fences were 14 mm, 18 mm respectively. The curvature of the fences was the same as that of the blade camber line. The fences were fixed normal to the end wall and at half pitch away from the blades. The experimental program consists of total pressure, static pressure measurements at the inlet and outlet of the cascade, by using five-hole probe. In addition, static pressure on the blade suction surface and pressure surface was also obtained. Fences are effective in preventing the movement of the pressure side leg of the horseshoe vortex. Consequently the accumulation of low energy fluid on the suction surface is minimised. End wall losses are reduced by the fences due to weakening of the end wall cross flow.

We report a far-infrared absorption study of internal transitions of shallow Be acceptors in both bulk GaAs and a series of δ-doped GaAs/AlAs multiple quantum well samples with well thicknesses of 20,15 and 10 nm. Low temperature far-infrared absorp-tion measurements clearly show three principal absorption lines due to transitions of Be-acceptor states from the ground state to the first three odd-parity excited states,respec-tively. Using a variational principle,the 2p-1s transition energies of quantum confined Be acceptors are calculated as a function of the well width. It is found that the theoretical calculation of the 2pz → 1s transitions is in good agreement with the D-like line experi-mental data.

Comprehensive studies identify motor neuron spectrum disorders including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS)as globally rising fatal disorders with the highest prevalence in aging populations,influenced by ethnicity and ancestry(GBD 2016 motor Neuron Disease Colla borators,2018).While~10% of diagnoses involve a family history(fALS),most cases are considered sporadic(sALS).However,population-based studies suggest that even cases without a common index mutation impart heritability(Ryan et al.,2019),indicating a crucial role of rare and as yet unknown genetic denominators.

Aims Desertification results in ecological and biological diminution of the earth,and can happen naturally or cause by anthropogenic *** process especially affects arid and semi-arid regions,such as the Isfahan region,where the spread of desertification is reaching critical *** aim of this study is to use remotely sensed data to review the trend of desertification in the northern of Isfahan,*** multi-temporal images were employed to evaluate the trend of desertification,specifically the Tm and ETm+ data of September,1990 and September,*** and radiometric corrections were applied to each image prior to image processing and supervised classification,and vegetation indices were applied to produce a land use map of each image in nine *** land use classifications in the two map images were compared and changes between land use classes were detected over the 11 year period using a fuzzy and post-classification *** findings The maps and their comparison with false color composite images showed the differences *** the fuzzy and post-classification method the land use changes were sited on the *** confirmed 53% changed area and 47% unchanged areas in the study *** results verify the desertification expansion in the study *** of poor land management,agricultural lands converted to desert and abandoned areas,and some marginal pasture lands had to be changed to agricultural land which are desertification spreading according to United Nations Conference on Desertification(UNCOD).Also farmland and pastures have been converted to urban and industrial areas,and the rangelands have been spoiled due to opencast mine *** the mine margins eroding as well as their debris accumulating on the pasture lands,desertification has become *** areas of less-elevated mountains have remained *** study confirmed that the anthropogenic activities accelerated the des

Chemically synthesized ZnS thin film is found to be a good x-ray radiation sensor. We report the effect of annealing on the x-ray radiation detection sensitivity of a ZnS thin film synthesized by a chemical bath deposition technique. The chemically synthesized ZnS films are annealed at 333, 363 and 393K for 1 h. Structural analyses show that the lattice defects in the films decrease with annealing. Further, the band gap is also found to decrease from 3.38 to 3.21 eV after annealing at 393K. Current-voltage characteristics of the films are studied under dark and x-ray irradiation conditions. Due to the decrease of lattice defects and band gap, the conductivity under dark conditions is found to increase from 2.06 × 10^-6 to 1.69 × 10^-5 S/em, while that under x-ray irradiation increases from 4.13 × 10^-5 to 5.28 ×10^-5 S/cm. On the other hand, the x-ray radiation detection sensitivity of the films is found to decrease with annealing. This decrease of detection sensitivity is attributed to the decrease of the band gap as well as some structural and surface morphological changes occurring after annealing.

We discuss the association between the candidate magnetar CXOU j171405.7-381031 and the supernova remnant CTB *** recent detection of the period derivative of the object allowed an estimation of a young characteristic age of only ～ *** value is too small to be compatible even with the minimum radius of the remnant being ≥ 10 pc,the value corresponding to the lower limit of the estimated distance of 10.2 ± 3.5 kpc,unless the true distance happens to be even smaller than the lower *** argue that a consistent scenario for the remnant＇s origin,in which the latter is powered by the energy injected by a young magnetar,is indeed more accurate to explain the young age,and demonstrates its non-standard（***-driven） nature.

BACKGROUND Zinc is a key element in numerous proteins and plays an important role in essential cell functions such as defense against free radicals and DNA damage repair. Chronic pancreatitis(Cp) is a chronic inflammation with progressive fibrosis of pancreas ultimately resulting in pancreatic exocrine insufficiency(pEI),which is associated with malnutrition. Studies analyzing zinc levels in patients with Cp are sparse and lead to conflicting *** To investigate serum zinc levels in patients with Cp of various *** Between October 2015 and march 2018, patients with a diagnosis of Cp were identified and recruited from the pancreatic Outpatient Clinic at the Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden. Demographic, clinical and laboratory data were analyzed. Etiology of Cp was determined according to the mANNHEIm classification system into the following etiological subcategories:alcohol consumption, nicotine consumption, hereditary factors, efferent pancreatic duct factors and immunological factors. pancreatic exocrine function was defined as normal(fecal elastase 1 > 200 μg/g), mildly reduced(100-200μg/g) and severely reduced(fecal elastase 1 patients were included in the analysis. Zinc deficiency(mol/L) was present in 39(26.0%) of patients: 22 females and 17 males. In the group of patients with zinc deficiency, 76.7% of patients had an exocrine pancreatic insufficiency(FE-1 patients aged 60-69 and patients ≥ 70 years of age had a significantly higher prevalence of zinc deficiencies compared to patients p= 0.04]; [OR 6.26, 95%CI(1.94-20.2), p > 0.002]. Smoking and number of packyears were additionally associated with low zinc levels. The risk of zinc deficiency in current smokers and smokers with ≥ 20 pack-years was approximately three times higher
