In the present study,rare earth samarium(Sm^(3+))substituted Ni-Cu spinel ferrites with the composition of Ni_(0.1)Cu_(0.9)Sm_(x)Fe_(2-x)O_(4)(0≤x≤0.05 in steps of 0.01)were synthesized by using the citrate induced sol-gel auto combustion *** ferrites'structural,optical,magnetic,and dielectric studies were carried out using X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM),ultraviolet-visible(UV-vis),a vibrational sample magnetometer(VSM),and an LCR *** pure Ni-Cu ferrite exhibits a tetragonal structure owing to the presence of the john Tellar ion(Cu^(2+)).XRD patterns confirm that the tetragonal structure gradually transforms into the cubic spinel structure with samarium *** nano-scale structures of these ferrites were confirmed by the average crystallite size(10.11-20.99 nm)derived from the X-ray diffraction patterns,and grain size(42.60-83.36 nm)assessed from FESEM *** existence of elements according to their chemical composition was verified by using energy dispersive X-ray(EDX)*** absorption bands(v_(1) and v_(2))detected in FTIR transmission spectra below the wavenumber of 600 cm^(-1)reveal the stretching vibrations of M-O bonds in the spinel structure at tetrahedral and octahedral *** band gap ene rgy obtained from UV absorption reveals the semiconducting nature of the *** high saturation magnetization(M_(s))is noticed at 15 K temperature for x=0.02 composition as 32.98 emu/g,while at 300 K for x=0.01composition as 27.61 emu/*** suggested cation distribution is in good agreement with observed and predicted magnetic moment values at 300 *** expected behavior of ferrites reveals the observed dielectric constant,loss tangent,and ac-conductivity values in the frequency range of 20 Hz-20 ***-Cole plots confirm that the impedance contribution is attributed to grain boundaries.

We study the structural properties of some light mass nuclei using two different formalisms(i) a recently developed simple effective interaction in the frame work of microscopic non-relativistic Hartree-Fock method and(ii)the well-known relativistic mean field approach with NL3 parameter set. The bulk properties like binding energy, root mean square radii and quadrupole deformation parameter are estimated and compared with the available experimental data. The predicted results of both the formalisms are well comparable with the experimental observations. The analysis of density profiles of these light mass nuclei suggest that22 O,23F,34 Si and46Ar have bubble like structure.

Objective:To explore the larvicidal and pupicidal activity of Euphorbia hirta（***） leaf extract and Bacillus sphaericus（***） against the malarial *** siephensi（An. stephensi）.Methods:The larvicidal and pupicidal activity was assayed against *** at various concentrations ranging from（75-375 ppm） under the laboratory as well as field conditions. The LC50 and LC90 value of the *** leaf extract was determined by probit ***: The plant extract showed larvicidal effects after 24 h of exposure;however,the highest larval mortality was found in the methanol extract of *** against the first to fourth instars larvae and pupae of values LC50=137.40,172.65,217.81,269.37 and 332.39 ppm;*** against the first to fourth instars larvae and pupae of values LC50= 44.29,55.83,68.51,82.19 and 95.55 ppm, ***,combined treatment of values of LC50= 79.13,80.42,86.01,93.00 and 98.12 ppm,*** mortality was observed in the ***:These results suggest methanol leaf extracts of *** and *** have potential to be used as an ideal ecofriendly approach for the control of the malarial *** as target species of vector control *** study provides the first report on the combined mosquito larvicidal and pupicidal activity of this plant crude extract and bacterial toxin against *** mosquitoes.

Through a bioreplication approach, we have fabricated artificial visual decoys for the invasive species Agrilus planipen- nis--commonly known as the Emerald Ash Borer （EAB）. The mating behavior of this species involves an overflying EAB male pouncing on an EAB female at rest on an ash leaflet before copulating. The male spots the female on the leaflet by visually detecting the iridescent green color of the female＇s elytra. As rearing EAB and then deploying dead females as decoys for trapping is both arduous and inconvenient, we decided to fabricate artificial decoys. We used a dead female to make a negative die of nickel and a positive die of epoxy. Decoys were then made by first depositing a quarter-wave-stack Bragg reflector on a polymer sheet and then stamping it with a pair of matched negative and positive dies to take the shape of the upper surface of an EAB female. As nearly 100 artificial decoys were fabricated from just one EAB female, this bioreplication process is industrially scalable. Preliminary results from a field trapping test are indicative of success.

We have analyzed the july 15, 2009, Fiordland earthquake （Mw 7.8）, which occurred in the southwestern part of the South Island of New Zealand. This thrust-related earthquake in the southern Fiordland subduction zone is the largest New Zealand earthquake in the past 80 years. We have constrained a rupture model for this earthquake using coseismic offsets derived from the continuous geodetic network （Global Positioning System） of the New Zealand Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences （GNS Science）. Our analysis concludes that this earthquake significantly increased the Coulomb stress on the overriding plate, particularly on the offshore portion of the Alpine fault.

Conservation agriculture(CA)based production systems may help in achieving more sustainable intensification of cropping systems that use less labour and energy and have higher profit margins,in addition to soil conservation and environmental impact mitigation *** these objectives can only be achieved when the right mechanization options,including appropriate crop establishment equipment,are in place to assist in timely field *** urgent need exists,therefore,to fine tune and re-adjust the existing two-wheel tractor(2WT)operated seed drills,with specific reference to the design of blade and furrow openers,while at the same time considering performance in different soil types and *** this end,experiments were conducted during 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 at two BARI Regional Agricultural Research Stations in jamalpur and Barisal,Bangladesh,on a loam and clay loam soil,respectively,to evaluate five types of furrow opener for strip *** and modified shoe-type furrow openers were tested and compared with three inverted-T furrow openers with rake angles of 75°,65°and 55°.The newly designed inverted-T furrow openers were narrower than the shoe-type openers;they also had a longer,hollow shanks and provided better options for adjustment to achieve the desired seeding depth and line *** to shoe-type openers,better seeding depth,uniformity and higher degree of seed coverage were recorded with use of the inverted-T furrow opener with a 65°rake *** resulted in better seed coverage in the furrow,a higher emergence rate index,and the highest emergence percentage of maize and mung *** research findings can be generalized to smallholder production systems on loam and clay loam soils where farmers utilize 2WT operated seed drills for crop establishment in both traditional and conservation agriculture-based planting systems.

Methanolic extract of Momordica cymbalaria enhances glucose uptake in L6 myotubes in vitro by up-regulating PPAR-γ and GLUT-4

The present study was undertaken to evaluate the influence of the methanolic fruit extract of Momordica cymbalaria （MFMC） on PPARγ, （Peroxisome Proliferator Activated Receptor gamma） and GLUT-4 （Glucose transporter-4） with respect to glucose transport. Various concentrations of MFMC ranging from 62.5 to 500 μg·mL^-1 were evaluated for glucose uptake activity in vitro using L6 myotubes, rosiglitazone was used as a reference standard. The MFMC showed significant and dose-dependent increase in glucose uptake at the tested concentrations, further, the glucose uptake activity of MFMC （500 μg·mL^-1） was comparable with rosigilitazone. Furthermore, MFMC has shown up-regulation of GLUT-4 and PPARy gene expressions in L6 myotubes. In addition, the MFMC when incubated along with cycloheximide （CHX）, which is a protein synthesis inhibitor, has shown complete blockade of glucose uptake. This indicates that new protein synthesis is required for increased GLUT-4 translocation. In conclusion, these findings suggest that MFMC is enhancing the glucose uptake significantly and dose dependently through the enhanced expression of PPARμ and GLUT-4 in vitro.

Some studies have shown that low frequency stimulation(LFS,most commonly 60 Hz),compared to high frequency stimulation(HFS,most commonly 130 Hz),has beneficial effects,short-term or even long-term,on improving freezing of gait(FOG)and other axial symptoms,including speech and swallowing function,in Parkinson disease(PD)patients with bilateral subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation(STN DBS).However,other studies failed to confirm *** seems not clear what determines the difference in response to *** in study design,such as presence or absence of FOG,exact LFS used(60 Hz versus 80 Hz),study size,open label versus randomized double blind assessment,retrospective versus prospective evaluation,medication On or Off state,total electric energy delivered maintained or not with the change in frequency,and the location of active contacts could all potentially affect the *** mini-review goes over the literature with the aforementioned factors in mind,focusing on the effect of LFS versus HFS on FOG and other axial symptoms in PD with bilateral STN DBS,in an effort to extract the essential data to guide our clinical management of axial symptoms and explore the potential underlying mechanisms as ***,LFS of 60 Hz seems to be consistently effective in patients with FOG at the usual HFS in regards to improving FOG,speech,swallowing function and other axial symptoms,though LFS could reduce tremor control in some *** LFS simply addresses the axial symptoms in the context of HFS or has other beneficial effects requires further studies,along with the mechanism.
