One of the main shortcomings of standard sampling synthesis is the very limited number of sound parameters that are user-controllable. In the most general case, the user can choose a particular pitch, duration, and amplitude. If the sampler allows control over articulation, it simply switches from one sound sample to another. This makes fine-tuning of musical performances demanding and time-consuming if not an impossibility altogether. A synthesis system has been developed at the Academy of music in Krakow, Poland. It uses a large collection of samples that contain short sequences of notes. The system implements a number of techniques to seamlessly connect recorded sequences, to control note durations as well as the tempo and the dynamics envelopes. Samples are automatically chosen, modified, and connected to keep the recorded, natural note transitions intact. The system uses performance rules to introduce variations into the regular playback akin to live performances by musicians. A user can either control the parameters manually or choose a desired expression and leave the particular decisions to the system. However, it is necessary to examine which parameters have the greatest impact on the listeners’ impression and determine useful values. 15 expert listeners compared and evaluated variants of musical performances produced by the synthesis system with different sets of parameters. The paper discusses a selection of the examined parameters, the test methods employed and the results obtained.

Introduction The China Seismo-Electromagnetic Satellite(CSES)aims to monitor space electromagnetic fields,ionospheric plasma,high-energy charged particles and other features of the global space *** high-energy particle package(HEPP),which can effectively detect the energy spectrum,flux and pitch angle distribution of space electrons and protons,and soft X-ray emission from solar flares,is one of the main payloads of *** and methods In this study,we designed,developed and calibrated the high-energy particle package and launched it into orbit with *** consists of the high-energy detector(HEPP-H),the low-energy detector(HEPP-L),and the solar X-ray monitor(HEPP-X).The three sub-detectors mainly use silicon detector and crystal calorimeter detection *** launching,we calibrated the three sub-detectors in detail by using radiation source and accelerator *** All the three sub-detectors have good energy *** launching into orbit,the space energetic particles and X-ray distribution detected by HEPP are consistent with *** performance indices of the detector reach the advanced level of the same kind of detector in the *** HEPP has a wide energy detection range,good energy resolution and high angular resolution ability for electrons and *** will play an important role in the study of space particle response and space physics of seismic activity.

The kinetics of electron transmission at solid/solid interface system are investigation and studied using a simple model that derives depending on the quantum consideration. A two quantum state for donor state ｜αn 〉 and acceptor state ｜αA 〉 are supposed. marcus-Hush semi classical continuum levels theory adapted to evaluated the energies for orientation before transfer. The probability of transmission of electron is calculated to investigation the kinetics of transfer. Our result for calculation of rate constant of electron transfer shows a good agreement with experiment data.

Significant loss of life and damage to properties, ecosystems and marine facilities occur due to various natural hazards such as cyclones and tsunamis. Royal HaskoningDHV has developed regional hydrodynamic and wave models covering the northern Arabian Sea to address these issues. Cyclone modelling was carried out on 11 major cyclones since 1945 and the tsunami modelling on an earthquake along the makran Fault Line in 1945. Sample results from these modelling studies are presented in this paper. The methodology described in this article for modelling cyclones and tsunamis in the Arabian Sea could be applied to simulate these natural hazards at other sites around the world.

This research deals with the forward extrusion process of tubes. In this process, a piercing process was carried out on the billet to produce the tube, followed directly by a reduction in the wall thickness. A specific geometrical shape for the piercing zone and the wall thickness reduction zone were chosen and designed. The effects of the redundant shear strain and the magnitude of the extrusion load were investigated and simulated with the finite element method using Q Form software program. Lead was used as model materials since (if the experiments were carried out at room temperature) it has the similar behavior of the steel at high temperature. The results obtained have shown that at the piercing zone, the lowest values of the extrusion load, the redundant strain, the total strain and the finite element effective strain were when a piercing tool (mandrel) of (C = 1.1) was used. While, at the die zone, the lowest values of the extrusion load, the redundant strain, the total strain was when a die of (C = 0.9) was used.

In this paper the ratcheting behavior of four pairs of stainless steel elbows is studied under conditions of steady internal pressure and dynamic conditions that induced out-of-plane external moments at frequencies typical of seismic excitations. The finite element analysis with the nonlinear kinematic hardening model has been used to evaluate ratcheting behavior of the piping elbows under mentioned loading condition. material parameters have been obtained from several stabilized cycles of specimens that are subjected to symmetric strain cycles. The direction of maximum strain is at about 45° between the hoop and axial directions. The results show that the direction of highest ratcheting is along the hoop direction rather than the direction of maximum principal strain. Also, the initial rate of ratcheting is large and then it decreases with the increasing cycles. Also, the FE method gives over estimated values compared with the experimental data.

Reliability of power systems is a key aspect in modern power system planning, design, and operation. The ascendance of the smart grid concept has provided high hopes of developing an intelligent network that is capable of being a self-healing grid, offering the ability to overcome the interruption problems that face the utility and cost it tens of millions in repair and loss. In this work, we will examine the effect of the smart grid applications in improving the reliability of the power distribution networks. The test system used in this paper is the IEEE 34 node test feeder, released in 2003 by the Distribution System Analysis Subcommittee of the IEEE Power Engineering Society. The objective is to analyze the feeder for the optimal placement of the automatic switching devices and quantify their proper installation based on the performance of the distribution system. The measures will be the changes in the reliability system indices including SAIDI, SAIFI, and EUE. In addition, the goal is to design and simulate the effect of the installation of the Distributed Generators (DGs) on the utility’s distribution system and measure the potential improvement of its reliability.

The need to study the shrink-swell and crack properties of vertic soils has long been recognized given their dynamics in time and space, which modifies the physical properties that impact water and air movement in the soil, flow of water into the subsoil and ground water, and generally alter the hydrology of vertic soils. measurement of crack properties has been made by numerous researchers with the purpose to understand and quantify the spatial and temporal dynamics of shrinking and swelling and the associated formation of cracks. These crack properties, which are important in modifying hydrology of soils are: width, length, depth and orientation of soil’s cracks. To better understand the hydrology of vertic soils and incorporate crack properties into hydrologic simulation models, several techniques have been developed to measure crack properties. However, little attention is given to evaluate both the advantages and the limitations associated with these techniques. Thus, the purpose of this review is to highlight challenges and limitations that have been used or might be used to measure cracking in vertic soils.
