A novel method for geometric quality assurance of rock joint replicas in direct shear testing-Part 2:Validation and mechanical replicability

Each rock joint is unique by nature which means that utilization of replicas in direct shear tests is required in experimental parameter ***,a method to acquire knowledge about the ability of the replicas to imitate the shear mechanical behavior of the rock joint and their dispersion in direct shear testing is *** this study,a novel method is presented for geometric quality assurance of *** aim is to facilitate generation of high-quality direct shear testing data as a prerequisite for reliable subsequent analyses of the *** Part 1 of this study,two quality assurance parameters,smf and V_(Hp100),are derived and their usefulness for evaluation of geometric deviations,*** reproducibility,is *** Part 2,the parameters are validated by showing a correlation between the parameters and the shear mechanical behavior,which qualifies the parameters for usage in the quality assurance *** results from direct shear tests presenting comparisons between replicas and the rock joint show that replicas fulfilling proposed threshold values of σ_(mf)joint in all aspects apart from having a slightly lower peak shear *** wear in these replicas,which have similar morphology as the rock joint,is in the same areas as in the rock *** wear is slightly larger in the rock joint and therefore the discrepancy in peak shear strength derives from differences in material properties,possibly from differences in *** is shown by application of the suggested method that the quality assured replicas manufactured following the process employed in this study phenomenologically capture the shear strength characteristics,which makes them useful in parameter studies.

Anti-perovskites A3SnO(A=Ca,Sr,and Ba)are an important class of materials due to the emergence of Dirac cones and tiny mass gaps in their band structures originating from an intricate interplay of crystal symmetry,spin–orbit coupling,and band *** provides an exciting playground for modulating their electronic properties in the two-dimensional(2D)***,we employ first-principles density functional theory(DFT)calculations by combining dispersion-corrected SCAN+rVV10 and mBj functionals for a comprehensive side-by-side comparison of the structural,thermodynamic,dynamical,mechanical,electronic,and thermoelectric properties of bulk and monolayer(one unit cell thick)A3SnO *** results show that 2D monolayers derived from bulk A3SnO anti-perovskites are structurally and energetically ***,Rashba-type splitting in the electronic structure of Ca3SnO and Sr3SnO monolayers is observed owing to strong spin–orbit coupling and inversion *** the other hand,monolayer Ba3SnO exhibits Dirac cone at the high-symmetryΓpoint due to the domination of band *** on the predicted electronic transport properties,it is shown that inversion asymmetry plays an essential character such that the monolayers Ca3SnO and Sr3SnO outperform thermoelectric performance of their bulk counterparts.

Demo-scale production of protein-rich fungal biomass from potato protein liquor for use as innovative food and feed products

Innovative food and feed products have recently attracted the attention of both producers and *** fungi are important biomass producers with their high protein *** this study,fungal biomass production from edible potato protein liquor (PPL),generated during starch production processes,was investigated through different fungal strains (Rhizopus oryzae ,*** ,*** ,Aspergillus oryzae and Neurospora intermedia ).The effects of PPL concentration,incubation time,initial pH,and cultivation conditions (in shake flaks and different scale reactors) were examined to determine the amount of biomass and its crude protein *** was determined that the fungal biomass produced by *** in industrial scale contained 53% crude *** this strain,the amino acid and fatty acid profiles as well as metals (iron,manganese,copper,and zinc) of the produced biomass were also investigated to assess possible use as a food or feed *** *** fungal biomass can be a promising raw material for feed and food production,for example,considering its protein and fatty acid profiles with 41% essential amino acids and 33% polyunsaturated fatty acids.

＜正＞ Distilled dialogues, i.e. re-written natural dialogues, are a useful complement to dialogues collected in Wizard of Oz-experiments or in natural settings for development of dialogue systems. However, the distillation process itself also provides insights on human-computer interaction and on properties of dialogue systems. In this paper we present the distillation process, including how the guidelines are developed, and experiences from utilising distillation.

The Triassic-jurassic （Tr-j） boundary marks a major extinction event, which （～200 Ma）resulted in global extinctions of fauna and flora both in the marine and terrestrial realms. There prevail great challenges in determining the exact location of the terrestrial Tr-j boundary, because of endemism of taxa and the scarcity of fossils in terrestrial settings leading to difficulties in linking marine and terrestrial sedimentary successions. Investigation based on palynology and bivalves has been carried out over a 1113 m thick section, which is subdivided into 132 beds, along the Haojiagou valley on the southern margin of the junggar Basin of the northern Xinjiang, northwestern China. The terrestrial Lower jurassic is conformably resting on the Upper Triassic strata. The Upper Triassic covers the Huangshanjie Formation overlaid by the Haojiagou Formation, while the Lower jurassic comprises the Badaowan Formation followed by the Sangonghe Formation. Fifty six pollen and spore taxa and one algal taxon were identified from the sediments. Based on the key-species and abundance of spores and pollen, three zones were erected： the Late Triassic （Rhaetian） Aratrisporites-Alisporites Assemblage, the Early jurassic （Hettangian） Perinopollenites-Pinuspollenites Assemblage, and the Sinemurian Perinopollenites-Cycadopites Assemblage. The Tr-j boundary is placed between bed 44and 45 coincident with the boundary between the Haojiagou and Badaowan formations. Beds with Ferganoconcha （？）, Unio-Ferganoconcha and Waagenoperna-Yananoconcha bivalve assemblages are recognized. The Ferganoconcha （？） bed is limited to the upper Haojiagou Formation,Unio- Ferganoconcha and Waagenoperna- Yananoconcha assemblages are present in the middle and upper members of the Badaowan Formation. The sedimentary succession is interpreted as terrestrial with two mainly lake deposit intervals within Haojiagou and Badaowan formations, yielding fresh water algae and bivalves. Geometric Flow Control Lateral Flow Immunoassay Devices (GFC-LFIDs): A New Dimension to Enhance Analytical Performance

Te nitrocellulose(NC)membrane based lateral fow immunoassay device(LFID)is one of the most important and widely used biosensor platforms for point-of-care(PoC)***,the analytical performance of LFID has limitations and its optimization is restricted to the bioassay chemistry,the membrane porosity,and the choice of biolabel *** bottom neck technical issues resulted from the fact that the conventional LFID design principle has not evolved for many years,which limited the LFID for advanced biosensor *** we introduce a new dimension for LFID design and optimization based on geometric fow control(GFC)of NC membranes,leading to highly sensitive *** novel approach enables comprehensive fow control via diferent membrane geometric features such as the width(θ)and the length(l)of a constriction,as well as its input angle(θ_(1))and output angle(θ_(2)).Te GFC-LFID(θ=0.5 mm,l=7 mm,θ_(1)=60∘,θ_(2)=45∘)attained a 10-fold increase in sensitivity for detection of interleukin-6(IL-6),compared with conventional LFID,whereas reducing by 10-fold the antibody *** GFC-LFID detects IL-6 over a linear range of 0.1–10 ng/mL with a limit of detection(LoD)of 29 pg/mL,which even outperforms some commercial IL-6 *** signifcant improvement is attained by pure geometric control of the NC membrane,without additives,that only relaying on a simple high throughput laser ablation procedure suitable for integration on regular large-scale manufacturing of *** new development on GFC-LFID with the combination of facile scalable fabrication process,tailored fow control,improved analytical performance,and reduced antibodies consumption is likely to have a signifcant impact on new design concept for the LFID industry.

Purpose: To evaluate vitreomacular traction syndrome with ocular coherence tom ography (OCT) retinal mapping before and after vitrectomy. Methods: A prospectiv e study of 11 eyes with vitreomacular traction syndrome was carried out. Ocular coherence tomography retinal mapping was performed before vitrectomy and 6 month s postoperatively. Visual acuity (VA) was measured with the ETDRS chart. Results : All patients showed a reduction in the thickness of the macular area postopera tively. The mean thickness in the central macular area was 609 μm preoperativel y and 243 μm 6 months postoperatively (P < 0.001). Ten patients had an increase in VA of at least two lines on the ETDRS chart and in one patient VA was unchan ged. The mean improvement in VA was 3.1 lines. Conclusion: Retinal mapping with OCT is a good method of evaluating the thickness of the macula before and after surgery in vitreomacular traction syndrome and vitrectomy improves VA in most cases.

Characterization of Flow Structures Induced by Highly Rough Surface Using Particle Image Velocimetry, Proper Orthogonal Decomposition and Velocity Correlations

High Reynolds number flow inside a channel of rectangular cross section is examined using Particle Image Velocimetry. One wall of the channel has been replaced with a surface of a roughness representative to that of real hydropower tunnels, i.e. a random terrain with roughness dimensions typically in the range of ≈10% - 20% of the channels hydraulic radius. The rest of the channel walls can be considered smooth. The rough surface was captured from an existing blasted rock tunnel using high resolution laser scanning and scaled to 1:10. For quantification of the size of the largest flow structures, integral length scales are derived from the auto-correlation functions of the temporally averaged velocity. Additionally, Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) and higher-order statistics are applied to the instantaneous snapshots of the velocity fluctuations. The results show a high spatial heterogeneity of the velocity and other flow characteristics in vicinity of the rough surface, putting outer similarity treatment into jeopardy. Roughness effects are not confined to the vicinity of the rough surface but can be seen in the outer flow throughout the channel, indicating a different behavior than postulated by Townsend’s similarity hypothesis. The effects on the flow structures vary depending on the shape and size of the roughness elements leading to a high spatial dependence of the flow above the rough surface. Hence, any spatial averaging, e.g. assuming a characteristic sand grain roughness factor, for determining local flow parameters becomes less applicable in this case.

Objective: The aim of this paper is to describe the process of developing web information on miscarriage based on scientific evidence, for women and couples in Sweden experiencing miscarriage. Method: A participatory design was used which included researchers, professional experts and users. A participatory design was used involving researchers, professional experts and users. The information was developed in six stages: 1) identifying the needs of information;2) identifying and constructing the main areas of information and its paths;3) identifying and inviting experts for revision;4) developing the text;5) reviewing the text;6) design and structuring for adaption to website. Results: The text of information developed gradually based on the seven steps. The final text comprised three parts: 1) what is miscarriage;2) experiences of miscarriage;3) processing and planning for new pregnancy. Conclusion: Using participatory design was time and resource consuming, however it was functional for producing appropriate information for the target group. The developed evidence based facts text is assumed to be a complement to the information that is provided by the health care system.
