Spinal muscular atrophy(SMA)is a genetic condition that results in selective lower motor neuron loss with concomitant muscle weakness and *** genetic cause of SMA was understood in 1995 when loss or impairment of the survival motor neuron 1(SMN1)gene was identified as the main contributing factor(Lefebvre et al.,1995).This,in combination with the discovery that humans have a“back-up”gene,SMN2,which can produce low levels(approximately 10%)of the full-length functional SMN protein,has led to the generation of SMA-specific gene *** was traditionally classified according to age of symptom onset and developmental milestones achieved,with life expectancy and severity varying between ***,SMN2 copy number is used as a proxy for the prediction of disease severity,with higher SMN2 copy number typically being associated with reduced severity of SMA,although this relationship is not absolute:some individuals with low SMN2 copy number have less severe SMA phenotypes and vice ***,the etiology of SMA is further complicated by other factors,such as non-typical nucleotide variants and SMN2-independent modifiers of disease severity.

Gastrectomy is the main treatment option for gastric cancer patients. Laparoscopic approach has become popular as an alternative to open method during the last decades, and clinical trials have revealed safety and feasibility in the short-and long-term outcomes of laparoscopic gastrectomy. The aim of this review is to summarize the results of prospective clinical trials and propose future perspectives for laparoscopic gastrectomy.

A new method is presented to describe and analyze the spatial compliance ofcoiled springs using screw theory. After an abbreviated description for the deformation of a beamelement using screw theory, the spatial compliance density for a beam element is derived based onthe fundamental material theory and reasonable assumptions, and the spatial compliance of the beamwith finite length is obtained by integral. The spatial compliance of coiled springs is furtheranalyzed using the spatial compliance density of the beam element. By calculating theeigencompliance and Ball's principle screws for the whole compliance of system, the complianceproperties varying with the basic physical parameters of the system are illustrated in detail. Thebasic ideas can be used for the design and application of the coiled springs and the other compliantmechanisms with spatial compliant beam element.

We present in this paper a semi-analytical solution for second-order wave diffraction by a vertical circular cylinder in bichromatic waves. On the base of the usual assumption of an irrotational flow, the wave-diffraction problems at second-order sum-frequency and difference-frequency are considered. The corresponding second-order diffraction potentials are decomposed into three parts, these are associated with the second-order incident wave, the quadratic forcing terras on the free-surface due to the first-order potential, and the linearised free-wave component resulting from the boundary condition on the body surface. A particular solution which exactly satisfies the inhomogeneous free-surface condition has been derived. Numerical results for the quadratic transfer functions of the second-order force components are given, and are compared with those obtained using numerical solutions (Kim & Yue, 1990,Moubayed & Williams 1995). These quadratic functions are useful in calculating the exciting forces on a circular cylinder of large dimension, fixed in irregular wave fields.

Gas quenching is an environmentally friendly and effective way of quenching components. However it has not been possible to apply it to small components because of the difficulties of jigging. A method of gas quenching such small components is described in which they are levitated in a confined gas stream. The method is suitable for quenching low alloy steel components that weigh between 1 and lOg.

BACKGROUND Triglyceride-glucose(TyG)index,a reliable marker of insulin resistance,was associated with cardiovascular morbidity and *** study aimed to evaluate the predictive value of TyG index for mortality in elderly non-diabetic pa-tients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction(STEMI).METHODS In total,430 non-diabetic patients aged over 65 years with STEMI were consecutively *** TyG index was calculated by using the following formula:TyG index=ln(fasting triglyceride×fasting glucose/2).The 5-item modified frailty index score was utilized to determine *** were divided into three groups based on TyG index *** Patients included into high TyG index tertile were male and had higher body mass index,glucose,triglyceride,low-density lipoprotein cholesterol,5-item modified frailty index and GRACE risk score;and had low systolic blood pressure,estim-ated glomerular filtration rate and left ventricular ejection fraction.A one-unit increase in TyG index was associated with 3.03 ex-tra cases per 1000 person-day for in-hospital mortality and 0.29 extra cases per 1000 person-day for long-term *** was a non-linear relationship between TyG index and the risk of mortality with an increased risk above 8.5 for TyG ***-Meier survival curves revealed that patients in high TyG index tertile had higher in-hospital and long-term mortality rates than those in low TyG index *** This was the first study to demonstrate that the TyG index could predict in-hospital and long-term mortality in elderly non-diabetic STEMI patients.

In this study,the global effects of the severe geomagnetic storm on the Earth’s ionosphere on September5 e9,2017 with Coronal Mass Ejections(CMEs)associated with X-9.3 flares on September 6,2017 were investigated by the Rate of Total Electron Content(TEC)Index(ROTI).ROTI was used as a criterion of ionospheric irregularities that took place during the *** study was conducted with TEC values obtained from fifty stations connected to the International GNSS System(IGS)-GPS network for five different latitude *** a result,it was observed that the irregularities in the high latitude regions of the southern hemisphere were greater in number in comparison with those at the high latitude regions of the northern hemisphere during the *** was observed that these irregularities generally occurred during the main and recovery phases of the storm at all *** weak and moderate ionospheric irregularities that developed at high latitudes during the storm were more in the southern ***,moderate ionospheric irregularities in high latitudes of both hemispheres took place in eastern longitudes(18 oE-160 oE).However,ionospheric irregularities in the mid-latitude regions were observed in more stations at the northern hemisphere than at the southern ***,ionospheric irregularities during the storm developed at eastern longitudes in all sectors.

Survival analysis following early surgical success in intermittent exotropia surgery

AIM:To assess the consecutive recurrence following early success of intermittent exotropia surgery and to determine the clinical factors that affect the ***:One hundred and thirty-five patients who underwent intermittent exotropia surgery and experienced early surgical success[≤5 prism diopters(PD)esophoria(E)to≤10 PD exophoria(X)on the postoperative sixth month]were enrolled in this *** consecutive survival on the postoperative first year,second year and third year and at the last visit of fourth year or more,and the factors that might affect their survival,were *** final surgical outcomes after the postoperative fourth year were also investigated by dividing the patients into the success group(≤5 PD E to≤10 PD X)and the failure group(>5 PD esodeviation or>10 PD exodeviation)RESULTS:The survival rates from the Kaplan-Meier analysis were 97.78%,92.89%,83.70%and 50.49%on the postoperative first,second and third years and fourth year or more,*** of the clinical factors was determined to have affected the *** amount of the exodrift was largest(2.29 PD)between the first year and the second year,and smallest(1.47 PD)between the fourth year and the last ***-three patients had their final visit after the postoperative fourth year,and 29 of them were in the failure *** patients in the failure group had an intermittent exotropia(IXT)of<20 PD with good to fair distant fusion;two had an IXT of<20 PD with poor distant fusion;one had an IXT of≥20 PD with fair distant fusion;and another had delayed-onset consecutive *** exodeviation on the postoperative sixth month was smaller in the success group than in the failure group(2.81 PD vs 5.86 PD,P=0.012).The reoperation rate for recurrent IXT was 3.7%.CONCLUSION:The survival rate steadily decreases with the exodrift,but the amount of the exodrift decreases with long-term *** final outcomes demonstrate favorable results via surgic
