The role of mechanical stratigraphy in the lateral variations of thrust development along the central Alberta Foothills, Canada

Fold-thrust belts generally exhibit significant variations in structural styles such as differences in thrust geometries and frequencies in imbrication. A natural laboratory of this pattern is preserved in the central Alberta Foothills of the Canadian Rockies, where differences in thrust geometries are represented by the existence vs. non-existence of triangle zones. To seek the factors that make this difference in these regions in terms of structural geometry, stratigraphic thickness variations and mechanical stratigraphy of the sedimentary layers, structural interpretation is conducted based on admissible cross-sections and well log interpretations. In northern region, a backthrust is detached from an incompetent layer(*** Unit of the Wapiabi Formation), which gets thinner from the Foothills to the Plains, indicating that it is developed where the shale layers are pinched out where triangle zone is developed. Backthrust is also developed in the southern region, where mechanical strengths of strata(viz. Bearpaw Formation)increase toward the foreland. In the central region, however, only forethrusts are developed along the weak continuous decollement layers(viz. Turner Valley and Brazeau formations), forming an imbricate fan without development of the triangle zone. Incompetent layers such as the top Wapiabi(Nomad),Brazeau(Bearpaw), Coalspur and Paskapoo formations are also pinched out laterally, forming fault glide horizons in different stratigraphic levels in each region. These results indicate that, along the transport direction, triangle zone is developed in relation to the stratigraphic pinch out of the Nomad Unit in the northern region, and is formed associated with the variations in strengths of the layers constituting the Bearpaw Formation in the southern region. Intense blue-emitting Ca_2PO_4Cl:Eu^(2+) phosphor for near-ultraviolet converting white light-emitting diodes

A blue phosphor Ca2PO4Cl:Eu2+(CAP:Eu2+) was synthesized by solid state *** Ca2PO4Cl:Eu2+ exhibited high quantum efficiency and excellent thermal *** luminescent intensity of Ca2PO4Cl:Eu2+ was found to be 128% under excitation at 380 nm,149% under 400 nm,and 247% under 420 nm as high as that of BaMgAl10O17:Eu2+.The optimal doping concentration was observed to 11 mol.% of CAP:Eu2+.The energy transfer between Eu2+ ions in CAP were occurred via electric multipolar interaction,and the critical transfer distance was estimated to be 1.26 nm.A mixture of blue-emitting Ca2PO4Cl:Eu2+,green-emitting(Ba,Sr)2SiO4:Eu2+ and red-emitting CaAlSiN3:Eu2+ phosphors were selected in conjunction with 400 nm chip to fabricate white LED *** average color-rendering index Ra and correlated color temperature(Tc) of the white LEDs were found to be 93.4 and 4590 k,*** results indicated that it was a promising candidate as a blue-emitting phosphor for the near-UV white light-emitting diodes.

Pharmacokinetic comparison with different assays for simultaneous determination of cis-,trans-cefprozil diastereomers in human plasma

The purpose of this study was to compare pharmacokinetic(Pk)parameters obtained using two newly developed assays,HPLC-UV and UPLC-ESI-MS/*** of assay and results obtained therefrom are very important in Pk studies and can have a major impact on the Pk-based clinical dose and usage *** this study,we developed two new methods that are most commonly used in biosample analysis and focused on Pk parameters obtained from *** HPLC-UV equipped with a Luna-C8 column using UV detector,cefprozil diastereomers were separated using water containing 2%(V/V)acetic acid and acetonitrile as a mobile *** UPLC-ESI-MS/MS equipped with a HALO-C18 column,cefprozil diastereomers were separated using 0.5%(V/V)aqueous formic acid containing 5 mM ammoniumformate buffer and methanol as a mobile *** showed high resolution,sensitivity,and selectivity without interference by plasma *** intra-and inter-day precisions(CV,%)were within 8.88%for HPLC-UV and UPLC-ESI-MS/*** of both methods was 95.67%-107.50%.These two analytical methods satisfied the criteria of international guidance and could be successfully applied to Pk *** of Pk parameters between two assays confirmed that there is a difference in the predicted minimum plasma concentrations at steady state,which may affect clinical dose and usage ***,we confirmed possible correlation between Pk parameters and various biochemical parameters after oral administration of 1000 mg cefprozil to humans.

Iterative learning-based many-objective history matching using deep neural network with stacked autoencoder

This paper presents an innovative data-integration that uses an iterative-learning method,a deep neural network(DNN)coupled with a stacked autoencoder(SAE)to solve issues encountered with many-objective history *** proposed method consists of a DNN-based inverse model with SAE-encoded static data and iterative updates of supervised-learning data are based on distance-based clustering *** functions as an inverse model and results in encoded flattened data,while SAE,as a pre-trained neural network,successfully reduces dimensionality and reliably reconstructs *** iterative-learning method can improve the training data for DNN by showing the error reduction achieved with each iteration *** proposed workflow shows the small mean absolute percentage error below 4%for all objective functions,while a typical multi-objective evolutionary algorithm fails to significantly reduce the initial population *** learning-based manyobjective history matching estimates the trends in water cuts that are not reliably included in dynamicdata *** confirms the proposed workflow constructs more plausible *** workflow would be a reliable alternative to overcome the less-convergent Pareto-based multi-objective evolutionary algorithm in the presence of geological uncertainty and varying objective functions.

A study of the suppression of the high-temperature helium embrittlement in an oxide-particle dispersion strengthened alloy

In this paper,an investigation on the micro-structure of an Fe-base oxide-dispersion-strengthened(ODS) alloy irradiated with high-energy 20Ne ions to different doses at a temperature around 0.5Tm(Tm is the melting point of the alloy) is *** with the transmission electron microscopy found that the accelerated growth of voids at grain-boundaries,which is usually a concern in conven-tional Fe-base alloys under conditions of inert-gas implantation,was not observed in the ODS alloy irradiated even to the highest dose(12000 *** Ne).The reason is ascribed to the enhanced recom-bination of point defects and strong trapping of Ne atoms at the interfaces of the nano-scale oxide par-ticles in *** study showed that ODS alloys have good resistance to the high-temperature in-ter-granular embrittlement due to inert-gas accumulation,exhibiting prominence of application in harsh situations of considerable helium production at elevated temperatures like in a fusion reactor.

High-temperature thermal oxidation of an Fe foil produces a high-quality,crystalline hematite nanoflake suitable as a photoanode for the photoelectrochemical(PEC)water *** pre-polishing of the foil surface has a profound effect in the formation of a vertically-aligned nanoflakes of hematite phase with extended(110)planes by removing the loosely-bonded oxide *** the surface of the photoanode is modified with a ZrO_(2) passivation layer and a cobalt phosphate co-catalyst,the charge recombination at the photoanode-electrolyte interface is greatly suppressed to improve its overall PEC *** a result,the photocurrent density at 1.10 VRHE under 1 sun condition is enhanced from 0.22 mA cm^(-2) for an unmodified photoanode to 0.59 mA cm^(-2) for the fully modified photoanode,and the photocurrent onset potential is shifted cathodically by 400 ***,the photoanode demonstrates outstanding stability by showing steady production of H_(2) and O_(2) gases in the stoichiometric ratio of 2:1 in a continuous PEC operation for 10 h.

Small-scale analysis of brittle-to-ductile transition behavior in pure tungsten

Tungsten as a material exhibits broad and increasingly important applications;however,the characterization of its ductile-to-brittle transition(BDT)is currently limited to large-scale scenarios and destructive *** this study,we overcome this challenge by implementing small-scale techniques to provide a comprehensive understanding of the BDT behavior of pure *** order to predict the failure mode at various temperature ranges,the practical fracture analysis diagram has been proposed to describe the resistance to shear flow and cracking behavior with *** temperature nano-indentation tests have provided the inherent mechanical responses corresponding to the maximum shear stress at various temperatures,which is required for dislocation activities in an atomic scaled activation *** one hand,atomistic simulations have provided the temperature dependence of brittle fracture stress,where the atomic bonds break due to intergranular or intragranular *** considered four tungsten specimens having various microstructures prepared using different processing conditions of cold-rolling and post-annealing,and their BDT ranges were inferred using the obtained fracture analysis diagram with the statistical data *** fracture analysis diagram of each specimen obtained were compared with the direct observation of fracture responses in macroscopic mechanical tests,which conclusively indicated that the small-scale inherent mechanical properties are greatly relevant to the macroscopic BDT behavior in pure *** on the BDT estimations by small-scale characterization,we provided further insights into the factors affecting the BDT behavior of tungsten,focusing on the contributions of different types of dislocations.

Solution processed high performance perovskite quantum dots/ZnO phototransistors

Phototransistors that can detect visible light have been fabricated using solution processed zinc oxide channel/zirconium oxide gate insulator thin film transistors(TFTs)and room temperature synthesized perovskite quantum dots(PeQDs)as active *** ZnO thin film transistors did not show a photocurrent under visible light ***,ZnO TFTs decorated with PeQDs exhibited enhanced photocurrent upon exposure to visible *** device had a responsivity of 567 A/W(617 A/W),a high detectivity of 6.59×10^(13)jones(1.85×10^(14)j)and a high sensitivity of 10^(7)(10^(8))under green(blue)light at a low drain voltage of 0.1 *** high photo-responsivity and detectivity under green light resulted from the combination of short ligands in the QDs films and the high mobility of the spray coated ZnO *** results are relevant for the development of low cost and low energy consumption phototransistors working in the visible range.

Multiple-patterning colloidal lithography-implemented scalable manufacturing of heat-tolerant titanium nitride broadband absorbers in the visible to near-infrared

Broadband perfect absorbers have been intensively researched for decades because of their near-perfect absorption optical property that can be applied to diverse applications. Unfortunately, achieving large-scale and heat-tolerant absorbers has been remained challenging work because of costly and time-consuming lithography methods and thermolability of materials, respectively. Here, we demonstrate a thermally robust titanium nitride broadband absorber with >95% absorption efficiency in the visible and near-infrared region (400–900 nm). A relatively large-scale (2.5 cm × 2.5 cm) absorber device is fabricated by using a fabrication technique of multiple-patterning colloidal lithography. The optical properties of the absorber are still maintained even after heating at the temperatures >600 ∘C. Such a large-scale, heat-tolerant, and broadband near-perfect absorber will provide further useful applications in solar thermophotovoltaics, stealth, and absorption controlling in high-temperature conditions.

Plasmid DNA-loaded asymmetrically porous membrane for guided bone regeneration

Although bone defects can be restored spontaneously,bone reconstruction with sufficient strength and volume continues to be a challenge in clinical *** recent years,the use of a variety of biomaterials with bioactivity has been attempted to compensate for this ***,we fabricated a pDNA(encoding for BMP-2)-loaded asymmetrically porous polycaprolactone(PCL)/Pluronic F127 membrane as a bioactive guided bone regeneration(GBR)membrane,using a modified immersion-precipitation *** was observed that the GBR membrane allows continuous release of pDNA for more than20 *** pDNA was sufficiently transfected into human bone marrow stem cells(h BMSCs)without significant cytotoxicity and the gene-transfected cells showed prolonged synthesis of *** in vitro osteogenic differentiation and in vivo animal studies,the effective induction of osteogenic differentiation of h BMSCs and enhanced bone regeneration by the pDNA-loaded asymmetrically porous PCL/Pluronic F127 membrane was observed,suggesting that the pDNA-loaded membrane as a bioactive GBR membrane can be an alternative therapeutic technique for effective bone regeneration.
