In the recent decades,zinc(Zn)and its alloys have been drawing attention as promising candidates for bioresorbable cardiovascular stents due to its degradation rate more suitable than magnesium(Mg)and iron(Fe)***,its mechanical properties need to be improved in order to meet the criteria for vascular *** work investigates the mechanical properties,biodegradability and biocompatibility of Zn-Mg and Zn-Cu alloys in order to determine a proper alloy composition for optimal stent *** measurements are performed to characterize the mechanical properties at the nanoscale as a function of the Zn microstructure variations induced by *** biodegradation mechanisms are discussed and correlated to microstructure,mechanical performance and bacterial/cell *** of Mg or Cu alloying elements refined the microstructure of Zn and enhanced yield strength(YS)and ultimate tensile strength(UTS)proportional to the volume fraction of secondary ***-1Mg showed the higher YS and UTS and better performance in terms of degradation stability in Hanks’***-Cu alloys presented an antibacterial effect for *** controlled by diffusion mechanisms and by *** was dependent on the degradation rate and the nature of the corrosion products.

Modelling a Skin-Pass Rolling Process by Means of Data Mining Techniques and Finite Element Method

An experience is presented using the finite element method （FEM） and data mining （DM） techniques to develop models that can be used to optimieze the skin-pass rolling process based on its operating conditions. A FE model based on a real skin-pass process is built and validated. Based on this model, a group of FE models is simulated with different adjustment parameters and with different materials for the sheet; both variables are chosen from pre-set ranges, From all FE model simulations, a database is generated; this database is made up of the above mentioned adjustment parameters, sheet properties and the variables of the process arising from the simulation of the model. Various types of data mining algorithms are used to develop predictive models for each of the variables of the *** best predictive models can be used to predict experimentally hard-to-measure variables （internal stresses, internal straine, etc.） which are useful in the optimal design of the process or to be applied in real time control systems of a skin-pass process in -plant.

OBjECTIVE To assess the role of beta-blockers(BB)in patients with chronic kidney disease(CKD)aged≥75 *** AND RESULTS From january 2008 to july 2014,we included 390 consecutive patients≥75 years of age with ejection fraction≤35%and glomerular filtration rate(GFR)≤60 m L/min per 1.73 m^*** analyzed the relationship between treatment with BB and mortality or cardiovascular *** mean age of our population was 82.6±4.1 *** ejection fraction was 27.9%±6.5%.GFR was 60-45 m L/min per 1.73 m^2 in 50.3%of patients,45-30 m L/min per 1.73 m^2 in 37.4%,andjor cardiovascular event(death or hospitalization for heart failure).BB use was significantly associated with a reduced risk of death(HR=0.51,95%CI:0.35-0.74;P<0.001).Patients receiving BB consistently showed a reduced risk of death across the different stages of CKD:stage IIIa(GFR=30-45 m L/min per 1.73 m^2;HR=0.47,95%CI:0.26-0.86,P<0.0001),stage IIIb(GFR 30-45 m L/min per 1.73 m^2;HR=0.55,95%CI:0.26-1.06,P=0.007),and stages IV and V(GFR<30 m L/min per 1.73 m~2;HR=0.29,95%CI:0.11-0.76;P=0.047).CONCLUSIONS The use of BB in elderly patients with HFr EF and renal impairment was associated with a better *** of BB should be encouraged when possible.

Application of magnesium and biosurfactant functionalized biochar composite in treating cyanobacteria in phosphorus and crude oil contaminated water

Various human activities have led to multiple contamination of natural water *** present study investigated the effect of a novel multifunctional biochar to treat nutrients,oil,and harmful algae in ***,magnesium(Mg)and biosurfactant rhamnolipid(RL)were incorporated into biochar,including Mg-biochar,RL-biochar,and *** adsorption efficiency on phosphate and total petroleum hydrocarbons(TPH)was evaluated in separate batch ***,the inhibition effect of RL-modified biochars on cyanobacteria was *** results showed that Mg-impregnated biochar showed high adsorption capacity on phosphate(118 mg g^(−1)),while RLmodified biochar significantly reduced TPH(especially aromatic and light aliphatic fraction)with adsorption capacity of 44.4 mg g^(−1).The inhibition effects of biochar composites on algae in water without contaminants were in order of Mg-RL-biochar>RL-biochar>biochar with biomass reduction ranging 61-64%.Overall,Mg-RL-biochar was suggested based on this study due to its ability to remove PO_(4)^(3)−and TPH,and inhibit the growth of toxic algae.

Effect of pyrolysis temperature on Si release of alkali-enhanced Si-rich biochar and plant response

Recent studies have shown that silicon(Si)dissolution from biochar may be influenced by the pyrolysis *** addition,the enhancement of biochar by treatment with alkali has been proposed to produce a Si source that can be used for environmentally friendly plant disease *** this study,biochars from rice straw and rice husk pretreated with KOH,CaO and K_(2)CO_(3)and then pyrolyzed at 350,450 and 550°C were prepared to evaluate the effects of pyrolysis temperature on Si release and plant uptake from alkali-enhanced Si-rich *** Si and dissolution Si from the prepared biochars were assessed by different short-term chemical methods and long-term(30-day)release in dilute acid and neu-tral salt solutions,respectively,along with a rice potting experiment in *** both rice straw-and husk-derived alkali-enhanced biochars(RS-10KB and HS-10K2B,respectively),increasing the pyrolysis temperature from 350 to 550°C generally had the highest extractable Si and increased Si content extracted by 5-day sodium carbonate and ammonium nitrate(5dSCAN)designated for fertilizer Si by 61-142%,whereas non-enhanced biochars had more extractable Si at 350°*** alkali-enhanced biochars produced at 550°C pyrolysis temperature also released 82-172%and 27-79%more Si than that of 350°C produced biochar in unbuffered weak acid and neutral salt solutions,respectively,over 30 *** addition,alkali-enhanced biochars,especially that derived from rice husk at 550°C facilitated 6-21%greater Si uptake by rice and 44-101%higher rice grain yields than lower temperature biochars,non-enhanced biochars,or conventional Si fertilizers(wollastonite and silicate calcium slag).Overall,this study demonstrated that 550°C is more efficient than lower pyrolysis temperature for preparing alkali-enhanced biochar to improve Si release for plant growth.

Several ectoparasites parasitise nestlings decreasing their body condition,growth and *** minimise any loss of fitness due to ectoparasites,birds have developed a wide variety of defence mechanisms,potentially including hatching *** to the Tasty Chick Hypothesis(TCH),the cost of parasitism would be reduced if ectoparasites tend to eat on less immunocompetent nestlings,typically the last-hatched chick in asynchronously hatched broods,as they are in poor body *** predictions of the TCH are that immune capacity is lower in smaller nestlings than in larger ones and that parasites should provoke a more negative effect on smaller ***,we test these predictions in a population of Blue Tits(Cyanistes caeruleus)whose broods are parasitised by Hen Fleas(Ceratophyllus gallinae)and Blowflies(Protocalliphora azurea).We recorded the presence of both ectoparasites and analysed the immunocompetence(number of leucocytes per 10,000 erythrocytes and cutaneous immune response to phytohaemagglutinin)and body condition of smaller and larger nestlings within individual *** leucocyte count was higher in smaller nestlings than in larger ones,whereas the cutaneous immune response did not differ between smaller and larger *** nestlings,but not larger nestlings,had lower body mass when fleas were ***,by contrast,had no detectable negative effect on ***,our findings provide partial support to the *** immune capacity in smaller nestlings than in larger ones was not supported,but Hen Fleas seemed to negatively impact on smaller nestlings more than on larger ones.

Forest management globally affects the ecosystem services,especially those related to ecosystem functioning and biodiversity conservation,by altering forest structure and *** degree of alteration was related to the intensity and type of harvesting;therefore,the major silvicultural challenge is to develop alternatives to mitigate climate change and maintain forest functions and biodiversity while also providing acceptable levels of timber *** retention forestry(VRF)is a highly flexible concept,with continuity of forest cover,structure,function,and species composition,thereby supporting multiple economic,environmental,and cultural *** special issue provides an overview of the concepts and applications related to VRF implementation around the *** shows that VRF has been applied globally for several decades,with varying levels and retention types,depending on local conditions and the economic importance of *** challenges of VRF seem to differ to some extent on different continents,yet the general aims have been accepted in most of the *** has been successful in mitigating many effects of intensive harvesting,though in some forests of the world,the retention levels are too low to maintain acceptable levels of biodiversity and ecosystem *** conclude that an active collaboration between scientists and forest practitioners is needed to realize all of the opportunities provided by VRF in solving global forestry-related issues.
