A novel and substantive approach to teaching the diagnostic elements of pulmonary pathology. Drawing on 263 challenging, yet exemplary, referral cases taken from files collected over 20 years by internationally renowned lung pathologist, Dr. Eugene Mark, the authors introduce his state-of-the-art approach to the interpretation of pulmonary pathology. They illustrate the principles of his diagnostic approach with high-resolution color images found on the CD accompanying the book. This Lung Pathology Atlas on CD-ROM contains the histological record of each case, usually as five-color images that are representative of the histology seen on the slides that were sent to Dr. Mark in consultation, with the pathology being described in his letters to the referring pathologists. This text includes the primary and/or differential diagnosis and the pertinent histological features of each case, as well as clinical history, when available. Key words or phrases in the text are highlighted and digitally hyperlinked to associated images or regions of interest within those images to assist the readers in their correlation. The CD allows readers to differentiate subtle differences in histology when separating one disease entity from another and to broaden their understanding of the natural history of the disease through examples of medical lung disease in different phases of progression

BACKGROUND The long-term impact of vitamin D deficiency and metabolic syndrome(MetS)on cardiovascular disease(CVD)and all-cause mortality are still a matter of *** To test the hypotheses that lower serum 25 hydroxyvitamin D[25(OH)D]concentrations(a marker of vitamin D level)and MetS have a long-term impact on the risk of CVD and all-cause mortality,and individuals with vitamin D deficiency can be identified by multiple *** A sample of 9094 adults,20 to 90 years of age,who participated in the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(NHANES III,1988 to 1994)were followed through December 2015 was *** associations of serum 25(OH)D concentrations and MetS with CVD and all-cause mortality were analyzed longitudinally using Cox regression *** and regression tree(CART)for machine learning was applied to classify individuals with vitamin D *** Of 9094 participants,30%had serum 25(OH)D concentrations<20 ng/mL(defined as vitamin D deficiency),39%had serum 25(OH)D concentrations between 20 to 29 ng/mL(insufficiency),and 31%had serum 25(OH)D concentrations≥30 ng/mL(sufficiency).Prevalence of MetS was 28.4%.During a mean of 18 years follow-up,vitamin D deficiency and MetS were significantly associated with increased risk of CVD and all-cause *** with both vitamin D deficiency and MetS had the highest risk of CVD mortality(HR=1.77,95%CI:1.22-2.58)and all-cause mortality(HR=1.62,95%CI:1.26-2.09),followed by those with both vitamin D insufficiency and MetS for CVD mortality(HR=1.59,95%CI:1.12-2.24),and all-cause mortality(HR=1.41,95%CI:1.08-1.85).Meanwhile,vitamin D sufficiency significantly decreased the risk of CVD and all-cause mortality for those who even had *** the total study sample,CART analysis suggests that being non-Hispanic Black,having lower serum folate level,and being female were the first three predictors for those with serum 25(OH)D *** Vitamin D defic

To date,numerous studies have been performed to elucidate the complex cellular dynamics in skin diseases,but few have attempted to characterize these cellular events under conditions similar to the native *** address this challenge,a three-dimensional(3D)multimodal analysis platform was developed for characterizing in vivo cellular dynamics in skin,which was then utilized to process in vivo wound healing data to demonstrate its *** attention is focused on in vivo biological parameters that are difficult to study with ex vivo analysis,including 3D cell tracking and techniques to connect biological information obtained from different imaging *** results here open new possibilities for evaluating 3D cellular dynamics in vivo,and can potentially provide new tools for characterizing the skin microenvironment and pathologies in the future.

The physical and luminescent properties of Sm^(3+)-doped oxide and oxy-fluoride phosphate glasses were investigated. The glass samples with chemical composition of 69 P_2 O_5-10 BaO-10 ZnO-10 Gd_2 O_3-1 Sm_2 O_3 and 69 P_2 O_5-10 BaO-10 ZnO-10 GdF_3-1 Sm_2 O_3 were prepared by conventional melt quenching technique. The prepared glass samples were characterized with density, molar volume, refractive index,FTIR, UV-Vis-NIR, photo luminesce nce, radio luminescence, decay time profile and CIE diagram. The density and refractive index of the oxide glass have higher values as compared to the oxy-fluoride *** FTIR spectra show the reduction of O-H group in oxy-fluoride glass. The characteristic peaks of Sm^(3+)are observed at 360,372,402,438,419,473,944,1077,1227,1373,1474,1529 and 1585 nm in UV-VIS-NIR spectra. These peaks are related respectively to the transitions from ground state ~6 H_(5/2) to ~4 D_(3/2), ~6 P_(7/2),6 P3/2, ~4 I_(11/2), ~6 F_(11/2), ~6 F_(9/2), ~6 F_(7/2),~6 F_(5/2),~6 F_(3/2), ~6 H_(15/2) and ~6 F_(1/2) excited states. From photoluminescence and radio-luminesce nce it is observed that the oxy-fluoride glass samples show better emission intensity than the oxide glass. The judd-Ofelt theory(j-0 theory) was used to find j-O intensity Ω_λ(λ = 2,4 and 6)parameters and radiative properties such as transition probability, stimulated emission cross section and branching ratios for titled glasses. The trend observed in the j-O parameters is Ω_4 >Ω_2 >Ω_6. The transition probability,emission cross section and branching ratio have the highest values for the ~4 G_(5/2)→~6 H_(7/2)transition. The CIE coordinates of the prepared glass samples are positioned in the orange region and the CCT value is 3776.105 for oxide and oxyfluoride glass. The oxy-fluoride glass has shorter decay time as compared to the oxide glass and it is recorded to be 1.62 and 1.32 ms for oxide and oxy-fluoride respectively. Sea level rise (SLR) is a major projected threat of climate change that is expected to affect developing coastal cities located in estuarine delta regions. Shanghai is one such city, being located in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD). It is difficult, however, for decision-makers to implement adaptation due to the uncertain causes, magnitudes, and timings of SLR behaviors. This paper attempts to map the causes and magnitudes of SLR behaviors on a decadal scale. We analyze the tidal level records from 11 tidal gauge stations and the corresponding bathymetry measurements around these stations since 1921. We identify three new SLR behaviors along the Shanghai coast due to anthropogenic geomorphologic changes (AGCs), besides the well-known eustatic sea level rise (ESLR), tectonic subsidence (TS), and urban land subsidence (ULS). The first new behavior is regional sea level rise (RSLR), which occurs as a result of land reclamation and deep waterway regulation. The second is regional sea level fall (RSLF), which occurs because the channel bed is eroded due to sediment supply decline in the river catchment. The last SLR behavior is local tidal datum rise (LTDR). Thus, we project that the magnitude of SLR for the Shanghai coast ranges from 10 cm to 16 cm from 2011 to 2030. Clarifying SLR behaviors is important to aid local decisionmakers in planning structural and non-structural measures to combat escalating flood damage costs in an estuarine delta system; this field is full of future challenges.

This research aims to contribute to the safe methodology for additive manufacturing(AM)of energetic *** formulation processes were investigated and evaluated to find a suitable method that may enable selective laser sintering(SLS)as the safe method for fabrication of high explosive(HE)*** safety and co nvenie nce reasons,the co ncept demonstration was conducted using inert explosive simulants with properties quasi-similar to the real *** processes for simulant RDXbased microparticles by means of PCL and 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzaldehyde(as TNT simulant)are *** processes were evaluated for uniformity of coating the HE inert simulant particles with binder materials to facilitate the SLS as the adequate binding and fabrication *** system and single emulsion methods gave required particle near spherical morphology,size and uniform *** suspension process appears to be suitable for the SLS of HE mocks and potential formulation methods for active HE *** density is estimated to be comparable with the current HE compositions and plastic bonded explosives(PBXs)such as C4 and PE4,produced from traditional *** formulation method developed and understanding of the science behind the processes paves the way toward safe SLS of the active HE compositions and may open avenues for further research and development of munitions of the future.

Fecal microbiota transplantation(FMT)has been used as a core therapy for treating dysbiosis-related diseases by remodeling gut *** methodology and technology for improving FMT are stepping forward,mainly including washed microbiota transplantation(WMT),colonic transendoscopic enteral tubing(TET)for microbiota delivery,and purified Firmicutes spores from fecal *** improve the understanding of the clinical applications of FMT,we performed a systematic literature review on FMT published from 2011 to ***,we provided an overview of the reported clinical benefits of FMT,the methodology of processing FMT,the strategy of using FMT,and the regulations on FMT from a global perspective.A total of 782 studies were included for the final *** present review profiled the effectiveness from all clinical FMT uses in 85 specific diseases as eight categories,including infections,gut diseases,microbiotagut-liver axis,microbiotagut-brain axis,metabolic diseases,oncology,hematological diseases,and other *** many further controlled trials will be needed,the dramatic increasing reports have shown the promising future of FMT for dysbiosis-related diseases in the gut or beyond the gut.

Antimony grain boundary segregation in Fe-2%Mn-Sb structure steels has been studied through measurements of the ductile-brittle transition temperature in conjunction with scanning electron microscopy, Auger electron spectroscopy and secondary ion mass spectroscopy. The research result reveals that during tempering or ageing after quenching at 980℃, Sb segregates to grain boundaries with both equilibrium and non-equilibrium natures and brings about temper embrittlement in the steels. Cerium can relieve temper embrittlement of the steels and its segregation to grain boundaries may play an important role in reducing this embrittlement.
