The generator is the starter device of single stage heat transformer(SSHT) and its characteristics have main effects on the overall efficiency of this kind of absorption machines.This article reports a study of the generation of steam and changes in the concentration of the working solution(Water/Carrol mixture) into a plate heat exchanger as a function of its horizontal and vertical position by gravity effect.It is considered the analysis of six experimental tests;two were evaluated in a plate heat exchanger in a horizontal position and four in a vertical position(90 degree inclination).The generation of steam and increased concentration of the working solution are more sensitive to the vertical position of exchanger than in horizontal position.The results of numerical-experimental analysis indicates that a heat exchanger in horizontal position,the steam generation and the change in the concentration of the working solution occurring in the middle of the plate(or at greater distance depending to the thermodynamic conditions) and instantly in vertical position(at the input of the plate).

Spinal cord injury is a serious damage to the spinal cord that can lead to life-long disability.Based on its etiology,spinal cord injury can be classified as traumatic or non-traumatic spinal cord injury.Furthermore,the pathology of spinal cord injury can be divided into two phases,a primary injury phase,and a secondary injury phase.The primary spinal cord injury phase involves the initial mechanical injury in which the physical force of impact is directly imparted to the spinal cord,disrupting blood vessels,axons,and neural cell membranes.After the primary injury,a cascade of secondary events begins,expanding the zone of neural tissue damage,and exacerbating neurological deficits.Secondary injury is a progressive condition characterized by pro-inflammatory cytokines,reactive oxygen species,oxidative damage,excitatory amino acids such as glutamate,loss of ionic homeostasis,mitochondrial dysfunction,and cell death.This secondary phase lasts for several weeks or months and can be further subdivided into acute,subacute,and chronic.One of the most frequent and devastating complications developed among the spinal cord injury population is cognitive impairment.The risk of cognitive decline after spinal cord injury has been reported to be 13 times higher than in healthy individuals.The exact etiology of this neurological complication remains unclear,however,many factors have been proposed as potential contributors to the development of this disorder,such as concomitant traumatic brain injury,hypoxia,anoxia,autonomic dysfunction,sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea,body temperature dysregulation,alcohol abuse,and certain drugs.This review focuses on a deep understanding of the pathophysiology of spinal cord injury and its relationship to cognitive impairment.We highlight the main mechanisms that lead to the development of this neurological complication in patients with spinal cord injury.

Background: Autism spectrum disorder is a condition that affects all races, ethnic and socioeconomic groups. With a high incidenee ratio of one in every 68, it has become one of the most discussed psychiatric disorders. For this reason, the need for investigating novel treatments has been emerging. Qigong, a traditional Chinese mind-body technique, has already proven to be able to reduce symptoms of several physical and psychological illnesses. Objective: The purpose of this systematic review is to examine and categorize the current scientific evidence regarding the efficacy of Qigong on children suffering from autism spectrum disorders. Search strategy: A systematic literature search of the electronic scientific databases PubMed, Clinical Trials.gov, BioMed Central, PubMed Central and Google Scholar was performed to identify studies of Qigong in the treatment of children with autism spectrum disorder. Inclusion criteria: This review included randomized controlled trials, replication studies, retrospective studies and observational follow-up studies of Qigong on children with autism spectrum disorder. Case reports and case series were excluded. Data extraction and analysis: Two researchers independently evaluated the methodological quality of all included studies. Any discrepancies were solved by discussion until consensus was achieved. Results: Our literature search identified 157 publications, and 10 additional publications from hand search of references. After duplicate removal, 103 records remained. After the title/abstract screening, 19 publications were obtained for detailed evaluation. After detailed evaluation, 10 studies were included. Seven studies were conducted with small children with 2-6 years old employing Qigong massage, and three studies were con ducted with older children aged 7-17 years old applying both Qigong massage (one study) and Neigong (two studies). The rapid increase in energy demand,the extensive use of fossil fuels and the urgent need to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions have raised concerns in the transportation sector.Alternate renewable and sustainable sources have become the ultimate solution to overcome the expected depletion of fossil fuels.The conversion of lignocellulosic biomass to liquid(BtL)transportation fuels seems to be a promising path and presents advantages over first generation biofuels and fossil fuels.Therefore,development of BtL systems is critical to increase the potential of this resource in a sustainable and economic way.Conversion of lignocellulosic BtL transportation fuels,such as,gasoline,diesel and jet fuel can be accomplished through various thermochemical processes and processing routes.The major steps for the production of BtL fuels involve feedstock selection,physical pretreatment,production of bio-oil,upgrading of bio-oil to transportation fuels and recovery of value-added products.The present work is aiming to give a comprehensive review of the current process technologies following these major steps and the current scenarios of biomass to liquid facilities for the production of biofuels.

Whereas prone positioning of intubated patients suffering from acute respiratory distress syndrome represents the standard of care,proning non-intubated patients,so-called“awake prone positioning(APP),”has only recently gained popularity and undergone scientific evaluation.In this review,we summarize current evidence on physiological and clinical effects of APP on patients’centered outcomes,such as intubation and mortality,the safety of the technique,factors and predictors of success,practical issues for optimal implementation,and future areas of research.Current evidence supports using APP among patients suffering from acute hypoxemic respiratory failure due to COVID-19 and undergoing advanced respiratory support,such as high-flow nasal cannula,in an intensive care unit setting.Healthcare teams should aim to prone patients at least 8 h daily.Future research should focus on optimizing the tolerance of the technique and comprehensively evaluating benefits in other patient populations.

The use of radio-opaque markers and abdominal X-ray is the standard method for determining colonic transit time(CTT). However, when there are deviations in the intake of these markers by participants in clinical trials it is desirable to improve observations by introducingcorrections, where possible. To date, there is no standard procedure to adjust for such deviations. This report proposes a series of alternatives based on possible scenarios for deviations from the intended intake of radio-opaque markers. The proposed method to correct for missed or delayed consumption of radioopaque markers can help to increase the accuracy of the CTT measurements in clinical trials.

A discrete-event system simulation and animation program was developed to enhance the efficiency of a truck-excavator operation and reduce the environmental impact of haulage in an open-cut coal mine with multiple-pit operations. In any mine, a key objective is to have sufficient equipment for production and not to have excess to where it becomes counterproductive. Due to the advent of responsible mining,environmental regulations, and eco-friendly practices, these factors must also be considered in the analysis. Simulation studies can be financially advantageous for both the optimization of existing mine operations and new development phases in a mine. This study is a new approach to use discrete-event system simulation for mine systems, in order to investigate and possibly reduce environmental impact considering mining haulage performance and production target. A hypothetical layout of a surface coal mine with two pit operations was used for the simulation and animation model. The simulation model includes the animation of the operation. Animation is helpful to enhance the benefit of a mine simulation model. GPSS/Hòand Proof Professionalòwere the software used for the investigation.

The life quality of patients with craniofacial malformations is severely affected by the physical disabilities caused by the malformation itself,but also by being subjected to bullying,which leads to a series of relevant psychological and societal effects that have an economic impact on the health sector.Orofacial clefts,notably cleft lip(CL),cleft palate,and microtia,are the most common craniofacial birth defects in humans and represent a substantial burden,both personal and societal.On the other hand,osteoarthritis is a widespread degenerative disease that is becoming more common due to the extension of the human lifespan and to an increase in injuries in young people as a result of their lifestyle.Advances in tissue engineering as a part of regenerative medicine offer new hope to patients that can benefit from new tissue engineering therapies based on the supportive action of tailored 3D biomaterials and the synergic action of stem cells that can be driven to the process of bone and cartilage regeneration.This review provides an update on recent considerations for stem cells and studies on the use of advanced biomaterials and cell therapies for the regeneration of craniofacial congenital malformations and articular degenerative diseases.
