The Centro de Laseres Pulsados in Salamanca,Spain has recently started operation phase and the first user access period on the 6 j 30 fs 200 TW system(VEGA 2)already started at the beginning of *** this paper we report on two commissioning experiments recently performed on the VEGA 2 system in preparation for the user *** 2 system has been tested in different configurations depending on the focusing optics and targets *** configuration(long focal length F=130 cm)is for underdense laser-matter interaction where VEGA 2 is focused onto a low density gas-jet generating electron beams(via laser wake field acceleration mechanism)with maximum energy up to 500 MeV and an X-ray betatron source with a 10 keV critical energy.A second configuration(short focal length F= 40 cm)is for overdense laser-matter interaction where VEGA 2 is focused onto a 5 μm thick Al target generating a proton beam with a maximum energy of 10 MeV and temperature of 2.5 *** this paper we present preliminary experimental results.

This paper addresses the state estimation problem for linear systems with additive uncertainties in both the state and output equations using a moving horizon approach. Based on the full information estimation setting and the game-theoretic approach to the H∞filtering, a new optimization-based estimation scheme for uncertain linear systems is proposed, namely the H∞-full information estimator, H∞-FIE in short. In this formulation, the set of processed data grows with time as more measurements are received preventing recursive formulations as in Kalman filtering. To overcome the latter problem, a moving horizon approximation to the H∞-FIE is also presented, the H∞-MHE in short. This moving horizon approximation is achieved since the arrival cost is suitably defined for the proposed scheme. Sufficient conditions for the stability of the H∞-MHE are derived. Simulation results show the benefits of the proposed scheme when compared with two H∞filters and the well-known Kalman filter.

Mater nal effects occur whe n the phe no type of the mother in flue nces that of the young to the detriment of her survival, growth or fitn ess. The in vestment of the mother can be affected by mater nal body condition and/or experience. Trivers-Willard Hypothesis (TWH) and Local Resource Competition Hypothesis (LRCH) are the main hypotheses used to explain bias in birth sex-ratios in mammals, as well as for sex-biased maternal investment. Both hypotheses suggest that a different amount of investment must be expected according to the sex of the young. However, recent studies suggest that these differences are not in quantity but in the strategies: mechanisms and objectives may differ for each sex. We studied how maternal characteristics (age, body mass, body condition, and domi nance status) influence re leva nt aspects of the birth and early growth of the calf (birth date, birth body mass, body mass at weaning, and body condition at weaning) separately for each sex;and how that investment is mediated by milk production and composition (lactose, fat, and protein). One hundred eighty-eight newborns from 75 captive red deer hinds aged from 2 to 19 years were analyzed. The main differential investment observed was related to birth date: when producing a female, hinds give birth earlier in the season only if they have a good body condition;however, when gestating a male it is the older hinds those which deliver earlier. Subsequently, milk production and composition are correlated with birth body mass in female calves, but to weaning body mass in males. Thus, only hind body mass affects the weaning body mass of female calves, compared with age and hind body mass in males. These results suggest that while TWH fits the maternal investment strategy found for male calves, it is LRCH which correlates with the maternal investment patterns observed for females.

The magnetic properties of Ho_(6)MnBi_(2)and Ho_(6)FeBi_(2)crystals are investigated by means of density functional *** materials are currently an active subject of research in the context of magnetic refrigeration applications since they exhibit a remarkable magnetocaloric *** this work,the equation of state,density of states and magnetic moments are calculated and compared with previous experimental results for these ***,the Curie temperatures for the paramagnetic to ferromagnetic phase transition observed in these systems are calculated from first *** the calculated quantities are in reasonable agreement with experimental data,which suggests that density functional theory could provide a reliable framework to theoretically investigate the magnetic properties of intermetallic ternary compounds.

The laser performance of Neodymium-doped potassium gadolinium tungstate(Nd:KGd(WO4)2)crystal was studied by using Ti:Sapphire laser as the pump *** maximum optical-to-optical efficiencies for the 1.067 and 1.3μm laser outputs were measured to be 60%and 32.3%,*** internal loss coefficient of the crystal for 1.067μm laser was estimated to be as low as 0.004 *** oscillation thresholds at 1.067 and 1.3μm for different output transmittances are also given.

The thermoluminescence(TL)emission of synthetic and natural Ce-monazites was characterized here to determine the potential application in the identification of microscopic defects from a qualitative point of view trying to link each TL peak to a chemical-physical *** kinetic parameters that lead the luminescence processes were calculated by means of variable heating rate and computing glow curve deconvolution methods and allow identifying three groups of components at~90,130 and 290℃(for the mineral sample)and~90,170,220,270 and 320℃(for the synthetic CePO_(4):Nd_(0.20),La_(0.25)).The main differences appreciated in these complex TL curves are mainly due to(i)the content of impurities(natural sample contains lanthanides as well as U 0.60%and Th 5.22%)and(ii)the degree of crystallinity of the samples which is directly related to the type of impurities(synthetic monazite relies only on Nd and La).The behavior of the dose response in the range of 1-8 Gy is similar for both samples;the TL intensity increases linearly as the dose increases without changes in the position of the maxima,denoting first-order kinetic luminescence *** peak could be mostly associated with structural defects(i.e.,phase transitions),chemical reactions(i.e.,Ce3+?Ce4+redox reaction,dehydration or dehydroxylation processes)or intrinsic defects(i.e.,Frenkel defects,ODCs or NBOHCs).

The impact of the E×B flow shear stabilization on particle transport and density peaking at jET is analyzed in the framework of integrated modelling with the CRONOS *** that purpose,plasmas from a power scan which show a significant increasing of density peaking with the injected neutral beam injection power have been used as a modeling *** means of simulations with the quasilinear model GLF23 for the heat and particle transport,a strong link between the particle confinement and E×B flow shear stabilization is *** is particularly important close to the pedestal region where the particle pinch direction becomes strongly inward for high E×B flow shear *** impact introduces some non-negligible deviation from the well-known collisonality dependence of the density peaking,whose general trend has been also obtained in the framework of this modelling by performing pedestal density scans.
