Radiofrequency ablation versus microwave ablation for colorectal liver metastases:long-term results of a retrospective cohort surgical experience

Background:Ablation is an alternative treatment modality for selected patients with colorectal liver metastases(CRLMs).Although initially widely performed via radiofrequency ablation(RfA),more recently,microwave ablation(MWA)is being preferred due to its perceived superiority in creating the ablation *** aim of this study is to compare the long-term efficacy of these two modalities performed ***:Patients undergoing surgical liver ablation from 2005-2023 at a tertiary center by a single surgeon for CRLM were included in a retrospective institutional review board-approved *** were compared using Wilcoxon,Chi-square,Kaplan-Meier,and Cox multivariate regression *** data are presented as median(interquartile range).Results:There were a total of 242 *** RfA was done in 121 patients with 303 lesions and laparoscopic MWA in 121 patients with 300 *** was no difference between the groups regarding operative time(161 vs.147 minutes,respectively,P=0.4),perioperative morbidity(3%vs.8%,respectively,P=0.2)or hospital stay(1 vs.1 day,P=0.05).Local recurrence(LR)per lesion with at least 1 year of imaging follow-up was 29%in the RfA and 13%in the MWA group(Pf *** control these variables,direct matching was *** cohort included 189 ***-Meier analysis of these cohorts showed increased LR-free survival in the MWA group *** RfA group(P=0.005).Conclusions:This large study confirms our initial observation that local tumor control rate is better after MWA ***.

Background: Bithermal caloric irrigation, video head impulse test(vHIT), and rotational testing are commonly used to assess peripheral vestibular function, but the relative clinical utility of each test in differentiating patients with peripheral vestibulopathy is ***: To determine whether(1) the combination of two or more vestibular tests enhances diagnostic utility over a single test;(2) abnormal test results on vestibular tests correlate with one ***: Retrospective analysis of data collected from multidisciplinary vestibular clinics at two academic medical centers from 2016 to ***: 150 patients(54.10 ± 15.09 years, 88 females) were included. No individual test was significantly better at predicting the presence of peripheral vestibular damage(p > 0.05). vHIT test results improved significantly when combined with either the caloric test(p = 0.007) or rotary chair test(p = 0.039). Caloric and rotational testing had high sensitivity(74.65% and 76.06%, respectively) and specificity(83.54% and 78.48%, respectively). vHIT demonstrated excellent specificity(89.87%) but poor sensitivity(47.89%). Caloric, vHIT, and rotary chair tests results did not correlate with one another(p > 0.05).Conclusions: Vestibular function tests have comparable diagnostic utility, yet each offers unique advantages. Caloric and rotational testing may be best suited for screening peripheral damage and vHIT may function ideally as a confirmatory test.

In this study, we present a catalog of molecular clumps extracted from ^(13)CO(j=1-0) emission data of the Milky Way Imaging Scroll Painting(MWISP) project. The data covers the inner Milky Way within the longitude range10°≤l≤20° and the latitude strip of |b|≤ 5°. 25. The workflow for the extraction of clumps, namely facet-SS-3DClump, consists of two parts: the identification of clump candidates and their verification. first, facet-SS-3DClump employs facetClumps to identify clump candidates. Subsequently, high-confidence clumps are obtained by cross-matching with the clumps detected by other algorithms, such as dendrogram. Second, these high-confidence clumps are used as prior knowledge to train a semi-supervised deep clustering approach, SS-3D-Clump, which is applied to verify clump candidates detected by facetClumps, providing confidence levels for the molecular clumps. finally, the catalog comprising 18,757 molecular clumps was obtained using facet-SS-3D-Clump, and the catalog is 90% complete above 37 K km s^(-1). We observe a significant deviation of the mean Galactic latitude for clumps within |b|≤ 2° from the midplane, with b=-0°.110. We found that 82.3% of the dust clumps correspond to ^(13)CO clumps by matching with Herschel infrared dust clumps. In the future, facet-SS-3D-Clump will be applied to detect ^(13)CO clumps in the entire MWISP data.

Plant high-affinity K^(+) transporters(HKTs)mediate Na^(+) and K^(+) uptake,maintain Na^(+)/K^(+) homeostasis,and therefore play crucial roles in plant salt *** this study,we present cryoelectron microscopy structures of HKTs from two classes,classI HKT1;1 from Arabidopsis thaliana(AtHKT1;1)and class II HKT2;1 from Triticum aestivum(TaHKT2;1),in both Na^(+) -and K^(+) -bound states at 2.6-to 3.0-A ***1;1and TaHKT2;1function *** HKT subunit consists of four tan-dem domain units(D1-D4)with a repeated K^(+) -channel-like M-P-M *** each subunit,D1-D4 assemble into an ion conduction pore with a pseudo-four-fold *** both TaHKT2;1and AtHKT1;1 have only one putative Na^(+) ion bound in the selectivity filter with a similar coordination pattern,the two HKTs display different K^(+) binding modes in the ***2;1 has three K^(+) ions bound in the selec-tivity filter,but AtHKT1;1 has only two K^(+) ions bound in the filter,which has a narrowed external entrance due to the presence of a Ser residue in the first filter *** structures,along with compu-tational,mutational,and electrophysiological analyses,enable us to pinpoint key residues that are critical for the ion selectivity of *** findings provide new insights into the ion selectivity and ion transport mechanisms of plant HKTs and improve our understanding about how HKTs mediate plant salt tolerance and enhance crop growth.

The sluggish reaction kinetics of alkaline hydrogen oxidation reaction(HOR)is one of the key challenges for anion exchange membrane fuel cells(AEMfCs).To achieve robust alkaline HOR with minimized cost,we developed a single atom-cluster multiscale structure with isolated Pt single atoms anchored on Ru nanoclusters supported on nitrogen-doped carbon nanosheets(Pt1-Ru/NC).The well-defined structure not only provides multiple sites with varied affinity with the intermediates but also enables simultaneous modulation of different sites via interfacial *** addition to weakening Ru–H bond strength,the isolated Pt sites are heavily involved in hydrogen adsorption and synergistically accelerate the Volmer step with the help of Ru ***,this catalyst configuration inhibits the excessive occupancy of oxygen-containing species on Ru sites and facilitates the HOR at elevated *** Pt1-Ru/NC catalyst exhibits superior alkaline HOR performance with extremely high activity and excellent *** AEMfC with a 0.1 mg·cmPGM^(−2)loading of Pt1-Ru/NC anode catalyst achieves a peak powder density of 1172 mW·cm^(−2),which is 2.17 and 1.55 times higher than that of Pt/C and PtRu/C,*** work provides a new catalyst concept to address the sluggish kinetics of electrocatalytic reactions containing multiple intermediates and elemental steps.

Prokaryotes play a fundamental role in global ocean biogeochemical ***,how the abundance and metabolic activity of ecologically distinct subgroups(i.e.,high nucleic acid(HNA)and low nucleic acid(LNA)cells),and their regulating factors,change in response to changing marine environmental conditions remains poorly ***,we delved into the time-evolving dynamic responses of the HNA and LNA prokaryotic subgroups to declining resource availability and selective grazing by protozoa by conducting a 73-day incubation experiment in a large-volume(117,000 L)macrocosm that facilitates community-level *** found that the metabolic activity of the HNA subgroup was higher than that of the LNA subgroup when the macrocosm was resource replete but that the HNA subgroup declined more rapidly than the LNA subgroup as the resources became increasingly scarce,leading to a steadily increasing contribution of LNA cells to prokaryotic ***,as resources in the macrocosm became limited,protozoan grazing preference shifted from the HNA to the LNA subgroup and the contributions of the LNA subgroup to the carbon flow within the macrocosm *** findings highlight the resilience of LNA cells in resource-limited environments,illuminate the critical role of selective grazing by protozoa in balancing distinct prokaryotic subgroups under changing resource conditions,and demonstrate the complex and adaptive interactions between protozoa and prokaryotes across diverse environmental contexts.

In this study,a novel method is proposed for producing perovskite rare-earth manganese oxide magnetic refrigeration materials that exhibit superior properties compared to similar *** maximum magnetic entropy change values for this sample are 1.44 and 3.75 j·kg-1·K-1for magnetic fields of 2 and 7 T,***,its relative cooling power has been calculated to be 101.96 and 404.78 j·kg-1,indicating good *** results were obtained using the sample synthesized under a pressure of 4 GPa,and the sample has undergone a second phase *** critical behavior of the sample fits well with the mean field *** different magnetic fields,there is a significant overlap between the values of the maximum magnetic entropy change and the temperature-averaged entropy change,indicating that the refrigeration performance of the sample after high pressure can approach its maximum capability.
