The volume change and shear strength behaviour of tailings slurry with the changes in gravimetric moisture content is important to effectively utilise the storage volume and analysis of dam failure *** testing of tailings from a slurry-like to soil-like state is a critical task,and conventional consolidation apparatus does not have the capability of doing such testing,as the tailings slurries contain high water *** tests conducted on slurries having a 25%solids concentration showed very low efficiency;final sediment was still *** intrinsic point was identified based on pore water pressure dissipation during consolidation tests in a slurry consolidometer that can define two states of the tailings ***-like and *** the slurry-like state,the volume change was greater for Slurry 2 than Slurry 1,while the inverse was observed in the soil-like *** evolution of peak vane shear strength with the changes in moisture content was almost similar for both samples and obeyed the power *** models have been developed and validated to predict the shear strength of materials at any gravimetric moisture content or void ratio.

Aim: The degree of probability to retrieve spermatozoa from testicular tissue for intracytoplasmic sperm injection intooocytes is of interest for counselling of infertility patients. We investigated the relation of sperm retrieval to clinical dataand histological pattern in testicular biopsies from azoospermic patients. Methods: In 264 testicular biopsies from142 azoospermic patients, the testicular tissue was shredded to separate the spermatozoa, histological semi-thin sec-tions of which were then evaluated using johnsen score. Results: The retrieval of spermatozoa correlated signifi-cantly (P fSH concentration ( r = -0.66), the maximum score(r = 0.85) and the mean johnsen score (r = 0.81). In the multivariate regression analysis the successful testicularsperm extraction showed the closest relationship to the maximum score. The testicular volume correlated significantlywith the mean johnsen score ( r = 0.64, P fSH concentration mainly with the maxi-mum score ( r = -0.77; P ficantly lower johnsenscore compared to the patients who did not have any testicular disease in the past (3.7 ± 2.4 vs. 5.9 ± 2. 5; P fSH concentration in serum were related to thejohnsen score which correlated significantly with the sperm retrieval. The successful sperm retrieval can be expected inall azoospermic patients irrespective of the results of clinical examination. However, the probability of retrieval of sper-matozoa decreased significantly in patients with a fSH level > 18 U/L, tesficular volume johnsen scorejohnsen score < 7.

Refractory high-entropy alloys(HEAs)possess many useful properties such as high strength and high-temperature *** far,most studies on refractory HEAs have been limited to a few well-known compositions and on their coarse-grain bulk *** we fabricate nanocrystalline(TiZrHf)_(x)(NbTa)_(1−x)HEA thin films with a large range of compositions(x=0.07–0.90)by the direct current(DC)magnetron co-sputtering technique and measure their mechanical properties using the nanoindentation *** the as-deposited HEA thin films show a solid-solution body-centered cubic(bcc)*** the compositional ratio(x)increases,the elastic modulus decreases from 153 to 123 GPa,following the trend of the rule of *** x increases,the hardness first decreases from 6.5 GPa(x=0.07)to the lowest value(4.6 GPa,x=0.48)and then increases to the highest value(7.1 GPa,x=0.90),showing a concave *** change in hardness might be attributed to the combinational influence caused by the atomic size and modulus effects,as well as the texture *** authors also propose a few open questions for future studies on this and related HEA systems.

The time dependence of probability and Shannon entropy of a modified damped harmonic oscillator is studied by using single and double Gaussian wave functions through the feynman path method. We establish that the damped coefficient as well as the system frequency and the distance separating two consecutive waves of the initial double Gaussian function influences the coherence of the system and can be used to control its decoherence.

A microseismic monitoring system was installed in an underground room and pillar coal mine in the Eastern United States to analyze the occurrence and characteristics of induced seismicity during the retreat of two panels in the *** study is the first microseismic monitoring effort at an underground coal mine in nearly 30 *** the retreat of the first panel,an array of eight uniaxial geophones,installed 10 *** the roof,recorded events and their *** second panel was monitored using an array of twelve uniaxial geophones and two triaxial geophones,also installed 10 *** the *** the results of these studies,it has been found that the magnitude of seismic events is minimally affected by immediate roof geology or depth of ***,it was observed in both studies that the rate at which seismic events occurred did vary with changing roof geology and depth of *** the seismic data from the second panel retreat,focal mechanism solutions were generated for 50 hand-picked events in order to determine if the failure was in compression,tension,or *** of the focal mechanism solutions show that stress relief resulting in dilational events occurs at significant depths,150-200 m in this case,beneath the active mining face.

The diameter distribution of trees in a stand provides the basis for determining the stand’s ecological and economic value,its structure and stability and appropriate management *** pine(Pinus sylvestris L.)is one of the most common and important conifers in Turkey,so a well-planned management schedule is *** distribution models to accurately describe the stand structure help improve management strategies,but developing reliable models requires a deep understanding of the growth,output and constraints of the *** most important information derived by diameter distribution models is primary data on horizontal stand structure for each diameter class of trees:basal area and volume per unit *** predictions are required to estimate the range of products and predicted volume and yield from a forest ***,to construct an accurate,reliable diameter distribution model for natural Scots pine stands in the Türkmen Mountain region,we used johnson’s SBdistribution to represent the empirical diameter distributions of the stands using ground-based measurements from 55 sample plots that included1219 trees in natural distribution zones of the *** an alternative,nonparametric approach,which does not require any predefined function,an artificial intelligence model was constructed based on support vector machine *** error index was calculated to evaluate the ***,both johnson’s SB probability density function with a three-parameter recovery approach and the support vector regression methodology provided reliable estimates of the diameter distribution of these stands.

We propose a technique to assess the vulnerability of the power system state estimation. We aim at identifying the measurements that have a high potential of being the target of false data injection attacks. from the perspective of the adversary, such measurements have the following characteristics: ① being influential on the variable estimates;② corrupting their measured values is likely to be undetected. Additionally, such characteristics should not change significantly with the system operation condition. The proposed technique provides a systematic way of identifying the measurements with such characteristics. We illustrate our methodology on a 4-bus system, the New England 39-bus system, and the IEEE 118-bus test system, respectively.
