The NEutron detector Array(NEdA)is designed to be coupled to gamma-ray spectrometers to enhance the sensitivity of the setup by enabling reaction channel selection through counting of the evaporated *** article presents the implementation of a double trigger condition system for NEdA,which improves the acquisition of neutrons and reduces the number of gamma rays *** independent triggers are generated in the double trigger condition system:one based on charge comparison(CC)and the other on time-of-flight(TOF).These triggers can be combined using OR and ANd logic,offering four distinct trigger *** developed firmware is added to the previous one in the Virtex 6 field programmable gate array(FPGA)present in the system,which also includes signal processing,baseline correction,and various trigger logic *** performance of the trigger system is evaluated using data from the E703 experiment performed at *** four trigger modes are applied to the same data,and a subsequent offline analysis is *** is shown that most of the detected neutrons are preserved with the ANd mode,and the total number of gamma rays is significantly *** with the CC trigger mode,the OR trigger mode allows increasing the selection of *** addition,it is demonstrated that if the OR mode is selected,the online CC trigger threshold can be raised without losing neutrons.

Twin Growth and Texture Evolution in an Extruded AM30 Magnesium Alloy during Compression

The aim of this study was to examine and quantify the growth of extension twins and the associated texture change in an extruded AM30 magnesium alloy during compression along the extrusion direction. Three stages of twin growth with increasing strain were observed due to twin-dislocation interactions, together with increasing texture volume fraction of {1210}〈0001〉 and {01- 10}〈0001〉 components. Stage I was characterized by a relatively slow and gradually accelerating growth. A steady-state twin growth was reached in stage II, where the twin width increased linearly with increasing strain. Stage III twin growth became decelerated, exhibiting a plateau-like character.

de-twinning and Texture Change in an Extruded AM30 Magnesium Alloy during Compression along Normal direction

Twinning and de-twinning are the salient deformation mechanisms in hexagonal close-packed(hcp)metals. The aim of this study was to examine and quantify the de-twinning process involving a reversible motion of twin boundaries in an extruded AM30 magnesium alloy after re-compression along the normal direction(Nd) of pre-compressed samples along the extrusion direction(Ed). {1012} extension twins were first introduced at a compressive strain of 3.7% along the Ed. The subsequent compressive deformation along the Nd induced a gradual shrinkage of twins with increasing cumulative true strain,and the complete de-twinning occurred at a strain of ~7.7%. The twin width decreased linearly with increasing true strain. Texture measurements verified the rotation of c-axes of hcp unit cells towards the anti-compression direction due to {1012} extension twinning after compression along the Ed, and a gradual return of c-axes to the initial orientation due to twin shrinking or de-twinning during the following compression along the Nd. The {1012} twinning corresponded to the formation of new texture components C{1210} and d{0110} and a decrease in the initial texture components A{0001} and B{0001}, while the twin shrinking or de-twinning was characterized by a gradual vanishing of components C{1210} and d{0110} and an increase in the components A{0001} and B{0001}.

Fabrication of SAW Sensor for detecting Chemical Agent

SAW sensors using five different types of polymer to detect of chemical agents(dMMP,CH_3CN,CH_2Cl_2,dCP) have been fabricated and its gas response characteristics were extensively *** polymers used as the sensing material are polyisobutylene(PIB),polyepichlorohydrin(PECH),polydimethylsiloxane(PdMS),polyisoprene(PIP)and polybutadiene(PBd).Their thin films were coated on quartz substrate by spin coating *** types of simulants gases,dimethylmethylphosphonate(dMMP),acetonitrile(CH_3CN)and dichloromethane(CH_2Cl_2),dichloropentane(dCP)were used as target gases,instead of the real nerve,blood,choking and vesicant *** spin coating of PIB and PECH,the substrates were heated to 65℃with N_2 flow for 1 h to remove the cyclohexane and ethylacetate which was used as solvent. PdMS was heated to 75℃with N_2 flow for 2 h to remove the ethylacetate which was used as *** and PIP on the substrate were heated to 60℃with N_2 flow for 1 h to remove the benzen which was used as *** sensing characteristics of the SAW sensors were measured by using E-5061A network analyzer.

Making the link between AdF and 4d STEM:Resolution,transfer and coherence

Steve Pennycook is a pioneer in the application of high-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy(STEM)and in particular the use of annular dark-field(AdF)*** we show how a general framework for 4d STEM allows clear links to be made between AdF imaging and the emerging methods for reconstructing images from 4d STEM data *** show that both AdF imaging and ptychographical reconstruction can be thought of in terms of integrating over the overlap regions of diffracted discs in the detector *** approach allows the similarities in parts of their transfer functions to be understood,though we note that the transfer functions for ptychographic imaging cannot be used as a measure of information *** also show that conditions of partial spatial and temporal coherence affect AdF imaging and ptychography similarly,showing that achromatic interference can always contribute to the image in both cases,leading to a robustness to partial temporal coherence that has enabled high-resolution imaging.

This article presents several design techniques to fabricate micro-electro-mechanical systems(MEMS)using standard complementary metal-oxide semiconductor(CMOS)*** were applied to fabricate high yield CMOS-MEMS shielded Lorentz-force magnetometers(LFM).The multilayered metals and oxides of the back-end-of-line(BEOL),normally used for electronic routing,comprise the structural part of the *** most important fabrication challenges,modeling approaches and design solutions are *** that predict the Q factor,sensitivity,Brownian noise and resonant frequency as a function of temperature,gas pressure and design parameters are presented and validated in characterization tests.A number of the fabricated magnetometers were packaged into Quad Flat No-leads(QFN)*** show this process can achieve yields above 95%when the proper design techniques are *** CMOS not being a process for MEMS manufacturing,estimated performance(sensitivity and noise level)is similar or superior to current commercial magnetometers and others built with MEMS ***,typical offsets present in Lorentz-force magnetometers were prevented with a shielding electrode,whose efficiency is ***,several reliability test results are presented,which demonstrate the robustness against high temperatures,magnetic fields and acceleration shocks.

TIC-Tox: A preliminary discussion on identifying the forcing agents of dBP-mediated toxicity of disinfected water

The disinfection of drinking water is a major public health achievement; however, an unintended consequence of disinfection is the generation of disinfection by-products（dBPs）. Many of the identified dBPs exhibit in vitro and in vivo toxicity, generate a diversity of adverse biological effects, and may be hazards to the public health and the *** a few dBPs are regulated by several national and international agencies and it is not clear if these regulated dBPs are the forcing agents that drive the observed toxicity and their associated health effects. In this study, we combine analytical chemical and biological data to resolve the forcing agents associated with mammalian cell cytotoxicity of drinking water samples from three cities. These data suggest that the trihalomethanes（THMs） and haloacetic acids may be a small component of the overall cytotoxicity of the organic material isolated from disinfected drinking water. Chemical classes of nitrogen-containing dBPs, such as the haloacetonitriles and haloacetamides, appear to be the major forcing agents of toxicity in these samples. These findings may have important implications for the design of epidemiological studies that primarily rely on the levels of THMs to define dBP exposure among populations. The TIC-Tox approach constitutes a beginning step in the process of identifying the forcing agents of toxicity in disinfected water.

Convergence and exact solutions of spline finite strip method using unitary transformation approach

The spline finite strip method （FSM） is one of the most popular numerical methods for analyzing prismatic structures. Efficacy and convergence of the method have been demonstrated in previous studies by comparing only numerical results with analytical results of some benchmark problems. To date, no exact solutions of the method or its explicit forms of error terms have been derived to show its convergence analytically. As such, in this paper, the mathematical exact solutions of spline finite strips in the plate analysis are derived using a unitary transformation approach （abbreviated as the U-transformation method herein）. These exact solutions are presented for the first time in open literature. Unlike the conventional spline FSM which involves assembly of the global matrix equation and its numerical solution, the U-transformation method decouples the global matrix equation into the one involving only two unknowns, thus rendering the exact solutions of the spline finite strip to be derived explicitly. By taking Taylor＇s series expansion of the exact solution, error terms and convergence rates are also derived explicitly and compared directly with other numerical methods. In this regard, the spline FSM converges at the same rate as a non-conforming finite element, yet involving a smaller number of unknowns compared to the latter. The convergence rate is also found superior to the conventional finite difference method.
