We and others have published extensively on the benefits of physical activity(PA),exercise training,and cardiorespiratory fitness(CRF)to decrease the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases(CVDs)and CVD and all-cause morbidity and mortality.^(1-5)Both PA and CRF are important;however,CRF,which is mostly obtained through PA,although there is a genetic component,seems to be even more important than PA for predicting prognosis.^(1,4-6)Certainly,the wealth of data from across the world has indicated that increasing PA to enhance CRF while mitigating sedentary behavior would go a long way to lessen the world-wide obesity epidemic and reduce CVD and all-cause mortality.

Temporal trends and practice variation of paediatric diagnostic tests in primary care:retrospective analysis of 14 million tests

Objective The primary objective was to investigate temporal trends and between-practice variability of paediatric test use in primary *** and analysis This was a descriptive study of population-based data from Clinical Practice Research Datalink Aurum primary care consultation records from 1 january 2007 to 31 December *** aged 0–15 who were registered to one of the eligible 1464 general practices and had a diagnostic test code in their clinical record were *** primary outcome measures were(1)temporal changes in test rates measured by the average annual percent change,stratified by test type,gender,age group and deprivation level and(2)practice variability in test use,measured by the coefficient of *** 14299598 diagnostic tests were requested over 27.8 million child-years of observation for 2542101 *** test use increased by 3.6%/year(95%CI 3.4 to 3.8%)from 399/1000 child-years to 608/1000 child-years,driven by increases in blood tests(8.0%/year,95%CI 7.7 to 8.4),females aged 11–15(4.0%/year,95%CI 3.7 to 4.3),and children from the most socioeconomically deprived group(4.4%/year,95%CI 4.1 to 4.8).Tests subject to the greatest temporal increases were faecal calprotectin,fractional exhaled nitric oxide and vitamin *** classified as high-use and high-practice variability were iron studies,coeliac testing,vitamin B12,folate,and vitamin *** In this first nationwide study of paediatric test use in primary care,we observed significant temporal increases and practice variability in *** reflects inconsistency in practice and diagnosis rates and a scarcity of evidence-based *** test use generates more clinical activity with significant resource implications but conversely may improve clinical *** research should evaluate whether increased test use and variability are warranted by exploring test indications and test results and directly examine how increased test use impacts

Carbon neutrality goals have been established in more than 150 ***,as a renewable biomass resource,has the potential to replace a considerable portion of fossil-derived fuels and chemicals,so the conversion and utilization of lignocellulose is one of the main means during the steps toward achieving carbon neutrality ***,molecular machines that efficiently degrade and transform lignocellulose,are of special interest[1].They are closely related to the cycle of carbon elements in the environment,the feed efficiency and greenhouse gas emission of livestock,as well as the development of biomass bioconversion techniques and other biotechnology developments[1,2].A recent study based on the analysis of metagenomic-assembled genomes(MAGs),published by Moraïs and Mizrahi et *** Science[3],identified three new cellulosome-producing bacterial species in the human gastrointestinal tract(GIT).These species belong to the genus Ruminococcus,whose members are mainly found in gastrointestinal *** analysis of the prevalence of these new Ruminococcus species in 1989 GIT samples of human and other animal species worldwide,the authors found that the abundance of cellulosome-producing Ruminococcus was closely related to the extent of dietary fiber intake,which is considered a key factor in human *** suggests an interesting linkage may exist between cellulosome-producing Ruminococcus species and human health,in addition to livestock productivity,carbon neutralization,and the carbon cycle(Fig.1).

Out-of-core clustering of volumetric datasets

In this paper we present a novel method for dividing and clustering large volumetric scalar out-of-core datasets. This work is based on the Ordered Cluster Binary Tree (OCBT) structure created using a top-down or divisive clustering method. The OCBT structure allows fast and efficient sub volume queries to be made in combination with level of detail (LOD) queries of the tree. The initial partitioning of the large out-of-core dataset is done by using non-axis aligned planes calculated using Principal Component Analysis (PCA). A hybrid OCBT structure is also proposed where an in-core cluster binary tree is combined with a large out-of-core file.

Photodynamic therapy in the treatment of intracranial gliomas:A review of current practice and considerations for future clinical directions

Invasive grade III and IV maliguant gliomas remain difficult to treat with a typical survival time post-diagnosis hovering around 16 months with only minor extension thereof seen in the past decade,whereas some improvements have been obtained towards five-year survival rates for which completeness of resection is a *** techniques such as fluorescence guided resection(FGR)and photodynamic therapy(PDT)are promising adjuvant techniques to in-crease the tumor volume reduction *** has been used in combination with surgical resection or alternatively as standalone treat ment strategy with some sucoess in extending the median survival time of patients compared to surgery alone and the current standard of *** document reviews the outcome of past clinical trials and highlights the general shift in PDT therapeutic *** also looks at the current approaches for interstitial PDT and research options into increasing PDT's glioma treatment fficacy through exploiting both physical and biological based approaches to maximize PDT selectivity and therapeutic index,particularly in brain adjacent to tumor(BAT).Potential reasons for failing to demonstrate a significant survival advantage in prior PDT clinical trials will become evident in light of the improved understanding of glioma biology and PDT dosimetry.

Inter-signal interaction and uncertain information in anuran multimodal signals

Disentangling the influence of multiple signal components on receivers and elucidating general processes influencing complex signal evolution are difficult tasks. In this study we test mate preferences of female squirrel treefrogs Hyla squirella and female tungara frogs Physalaemus pustulosus for similar combinations of acoustic and visual components of their multimodal courtship signals. In a two-choice playback experiment with squirrel treefrogs, the visual stimulus of a male model significantly increased the attractivness of a relatively unattractive slow call rate. A previous study demonstrated that faster call rates are more attractive to female squirrel treefrogs, and all else being equal, models of male frogs with large body stripes are more attractive. In a similar experiment with female tungara frogs, the visual stimulus of a robotic frog failed to increase the attractiveness of a relatively unattractive call. Females also showed no preference for the distinct stripe on the robot that males commonly bear on their throat. Thus, features of conspicuous signal components such as body stripes are not universally important and signal function is likely to differ even among species with similar ecologies and communication systems. Finally, we discuss the putative information content of anuran signals and suggest that the categorization of redundant versus multiple messages may not be sufficient as a general explanation for the evolution of multimodal signaling. Instead of relying on untested assumptions concerning the information content of signals, we discuss the value of initially collecting comparative empirical data sets related to receiver responses.

Computational gas dynamical simulations using the WENO-LF method are applied to modeling the high Mach number astrophysical jet XZ Tauri, including the effects of radiative cooling. Mach 55 simulations of the pulsed proto-jet are presented and analyzed in terms of interacting nonlinear waves： terminal Mach disks, bow shocks, and Meshkov-Richtmyer instabilities of the leading jet contact boundary.

Does the scent of a potential mate prevent the resorption of oocytes by apoptosis in Nauphoeta cinerea？

We expect organisms to have evolved mechanisms to gather and use the information available within their environments, to steer resource investment decisions toward the traits that will give the greatest fitness returns. Pheromones are social signals, a common purpose of which is to act as indicators of mate presence. Consequently, pheromones have the potential to act as signals to increase or maintain reproductive investment over that of competing life-history traits. In the cockroach, Nauphoeta cinerea （Oliver）, females pay costs of maintaining investment in reproduction when there are no males, and males produce pheromones that are known to effect female reproductive outcomes. Whether the pheromones have an influence on resource physiology is unknown. We subjected newly eclosed females to either a synthetic blend of male pheromones or control. We dissected females at 7, 12, 17 or 22 days. We measured apoptosis levels and size of all oocytes within the vitellerium, and measured dry fat body mass. Synthetic male pheromone blend did not have an effect on any measure of female reproductive or somatic resource physiology. Although negative results are always problematic, the success of the synthetic pheromone method in the past suggests that females may be insensitive to male pheromones in the pre-oviposition period, and may rely on mating stimulus rather than pheromone as the cue for oocyte maintenance and growth. Previous studies reporting effects of male pheromones on female reproduction suggest that the period of pheromone sensitivity may be between mating and birth.

Molecular Cloning, Expression and Characterization of Ribokinase of Leishmania major

Ribokinase （EC 2.***.7.15） from Leishmania major was cloned, sequenced and overexpressed in Escherichia coli. The gene expressed an active enzyme that had comparable activity to the same enzyme studied in E. coli. It specifically phosphorylated D-ribose. Under defined conditions, the Km for the substrates D-ribose and ATP were 0.3±0.04 mM and 0.2±0.02mM, respectively. The turnover numbers of the enzyme for the substrates were 10.8s-1and 10.2 s-1, respectively. The enzyme product ribose 5-phosphate inhibited the phosphorylation of D-ribose with an apparent Kiof 0.4 mM, which is close to the Km（0.3mM） of Dribose, suggesting that it might play a role in regulating flux through the enzyme.
