The aim of this work was to develop a Ti6Al4V/20CoCrMo−highly porous Ti6Al4V bilayer for biomedical *** powder metallurgy technique,with semi-solid state sintering as consolidation step,was employed to fabricate samples with a compact top layer and a porous bottom layer to better mimic natural *** densification behavior of the bilayer specimen was studied by dilatometry and the resulting microstructure was observed by scan electron microscopy(SEM)and computed microtomography(CMT),while the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance were evaluated by compression and potentiodynamic tests,*** results indicate that bilayer samples without cracks were obtained at the interface which has no negative impact on the *** values of the highly porous layer were in the lower range of those of human *** compression behavior is dictated by the highly porous Ti6Al4V ***,the corrosion resistance of Ti6Al4V/20CoCrMo is better than that of Ti6Al4V,which improves the performance of the bilayer *** work provides an insight into the important aspects of a bilayer fabrication by powder metallurgy and properties of Ti6Al4V/20CoCrMo−highly porous Ti6Al4V structure,which can potentially benefit the production of customized implants with improved wear performance and increased in vivo lifetime.

Effect of laser shock processing on erosive resistance of 6061-T6 aluminum

Application of laser shock processing （LSP） on 6061-T6 aluminum was made in order to evaluate its response to the erosive wear by silica sand. Impact angles of 15° , 30° , 60° and 90° were tested, two particle speeds （37 and 58 m/s） and two LSP irradiation conditions were used. Erosion marks were characterized by 3D profilometry and SEM analysis was conducted to identify the erosion mechanisms for each tested angle. The results showed a maximum erosive wear at low impact angles （ductile type behavior）. Erosion strength and the erosion mechanisms were not affected by the application of LSP and they were attributed to the high strain rate of the erosion phenomena. A few differences encountered on the erosion plots were explained on the basis of the surface roughness left by the LSP process. The maximum mass loss and the maximum erosion penetration happened in different impact angles （15° and 30° , respectively）. Finally, a well-defined erosion mechanism transition was observed, from cutting action at low impact angle, to crater formation at 90° of incidence.

The corrosion and tribocorrosion behavior of Ti6Al4V/xTiN(x=0,5,10 and 15,vol.%)composites fabricated by solid-state sintering and their relationship with the microstructure and microhardness were *** body conditions such as a temperature of 37℃ and a simulated body fluid were *** main results demonstrated a microstructural change caused by theα-Ti stabilization due to solid-solution of nitrogen(N)into the titanium(Ti)lattice,producing a maximum hardening effect up to 109%for the Ti64 matrix by using 15 vol.%*** potentials of composites changed to more noble values with the TiN particle addition,while corrosion current density of samples increased as an effect of the remaining porosity,decreasing the corrosion resistance of ***,changes to a less passive behavior were observed for samples with 15 vol.%*** non-passive behavior of composites resulted in the reduction of the potential drops during rubbing in tribocorrosion ***,an improvement of up to 88%of the wear rate of composites was seen from the solid-solution *** results allowed to understand the relationship between composition and sintering parameters with the improved tribocorrosion performance of materials.

Assessment of maximal fat oxidation rate(MFO)during a submaximal exercise test has been employed by many studies to investigate the differences in metabolic flexibility(MetFlex)across several ***,many incorrect assumptions and methodological limitations exist in the procedures employed by previous studies,which might lead to misinterpretation of the reported *** the data retrieved from 19 trained men(Age:[27±4]years;%Body fat:[16.4±4.5]%;maximal oxygen consumption:[55.8±5.3]mL·kg^(−1)·min^(−1))who performed a graded exercise test over a motor-driven treadmill,this opinion paper shows that MFO alone does not perfectly capture the MetFlex in response to submaximal intensity exercise and recommend a novel index that considers both fat oxidation and energy expenditure modifications for an accurate examination of MetFlex.

Improvement in estimation of soil water deficit by integrating airborne imagery data into a soil water balance model

In this study,an approach that integrates airborne imagery data as inputs was used to improve the estimation of soil water deficit(SWD)for maize and sunflower grown under full and deficit irrigation *** proposed model was applied to optimize the maximum total available soil water(TAWr)by minimizing the difference between a water stress coefficient ks and crop water stress index(1-CWSI).The optimal value of maximum TAWr was then used to calibrate a soil water balance model which in turn updated the estimation of soil water *** estimates of SWD in the soil profile of both irrigated maize and sunflower fields were evaluated with the crop root zone SWD derived from neutron probe measurements and the FAO-56 SWD *** results indicated a good agreement between the estimated SWD from the proposed approach and measured SWD for both maize and *** statistical analyses indicated that the maximum TAWr estimated from CWSI significantly improved the estimates of SWD,which reduced the mean absolute error(MAE)and root mean square error(RMSE)by 40%and 44%for maize and 22%for sunflower,compared with the FAO-56 *** proposed procedure works better for crops under deficit irrigation *** the availability of higher spatial and temporal resolution airborne imagery during the growing season,the optimization procedure can be further improved.

Evaluation of ligninolytic activity in spent mushroom substrate from four cultivated mushrooms

Spent mushroom substrate(SMS)is an abundant residue generated by the mushroom industry,which is mostly *** this study,the SMS of four cultivated mushrooms were evaluated as potential sources of ligninolytic *** ostreatus,***,*** and Ganoderma lucidum were cultivated in two different substrates to determine growth,mushroom yields and ligninolytic activity of laccase(Lac)and manganese peroxidase(MnP).Maximum activities in the SMS were 3.731 U/g Lac and 0.191 U/g MnP,both for *** mushroom substrates were also analyzed,and higher activities were found in almost all samples.A correlation test between mushroom yields and ligninolytic activities of each culture was made,and we found that high enzymatic activity in the substrate did not result in high mushroom productivity or vice *** SMS was a good source of ligninolytic *** activity depended on the mushroom species and its affinity to the substrate,and it was not influenced by the mushroom *** of mushrooms in diverse lignocellulosic substrates is gaining interest,and ob-taining ligninolytic enzymes from residual SMS is an excellent alternative in the circular economy concept.

Due to a complex geological and biotic history,the Isthmus of Tehuantepec(IT),has been long recognized as a driver for the evolutionary divergence of numerous lowland and highland *** distributed in the lowlands of the American continent,the White-Tipped Dove(Leptotila verreauxi)is a polytypic species with 13 recognized *** of these have been recorded in Mexico,and the distribution of three abuts at the IT,suggesting a contact *** estimate phylogenetic patterns,divergence times and genetic differentiation,we examined two mt DNA(ND2 and COI)and one n DNA(β-fibint 7)*** also used correlative ecological niche models(ENM)to assess whether ecological differences across the IT may have acted as a biogeographical *** estimated paleodistributions during the Middle Holocene,Last Glacial Maximum and Last Interglacial,to evaluate the influence of climate changes on the distribution and demographic *** results showed genetically distinct lineages that diverged approximately 2.5 million years *** and ecological factors may have played a dual role in promoting differentiation,but also in the formation of a secondary contact zone in the southern *** ecological niche comparisons indicated that the ecological niche of sympatric lineages at the IT are not identical,suggesting niches divergence;in addition,environmental niche models across the region indicated no abrupt biogeographic barriers,but the presence of regions with low *** results suggest that genetic differentiation originated by a vicariant event probably related to environmental factors,favored the evolution of different ecological ***,the absence of a biogeographic barrier but the presence of less suitable areas in the contact regions,suggest that secondary contact zones may be also maintained by climatic factors for the eastern group,but also by biotic interactions for the western group.

Enhanced biological wastewater treatment using sodium alginate-immobilized microorganisms in a fluidized bed reactor

In this study,a microbial consortium isolated from an activated sludge tank of a conventional wastewater treatment plant was immobilized using sodium alginate(SA)as a support material for contaminant biodegradation in wastewater.A volume of 500 mL of activated sludge was immobilized in the SA beads(with a mass concentration of 25 g/L).The resulting SA beads were characterized,introduced into a fluidized bed reactor,fed with 1000 mL of the sample,and characterized again after the treatment *** SA-immobilized microorganisms were tested first for degradation of organic matter(expressed as chemical oxygen demand)and total phosphorous in domestic wastewater,achieving removal efficiencies of 71%and 93%,respectively,after 12 ***,the SA-immobilized microorganisms were tested for degradation of a basic blue 9(BB9)textile dye in a condition that simulated textile *** efficiency of the BB9 degradation was found to be as high as 99.5%after 2 *** to these results,SA-immobilized microorganisms were found to be an environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternative for treatment of municipal and industrial wastewater effluents.

Experimental evaluation of a“U”type earth-to-air heat exchanger planned for narrow installation space in warm climatic conditions

The thermal performance of a“U”type earth-to-air heat exchanger is presented in this experimental *** device has a serial-connected vertical *** wells where tubes were installed have a depth of fewer than 3 m and are separated every 1.5 m,using an installation area of *** experimentation was carried out in March in Morelos,Mexico when the environmental temperature reaches 35℃ during the *** performance of the device was measured and compared to the requirements of an office for cooling purposes within a university campus to reproduce the space restrictions found in urbanized *** using a small land surface,it is feasible for urbanized *** air temperature inside the“U”type earth-to-air heat exchanger,the surrounding soil temperature,the airspeed,and the power consumed by the fan were *** air temperature and the fan’s power consumption data were obtained by modifying the airspeed in four constant values,from 1.3 m/s to 6.6 m/*** show that the device evaluated in this work has adequate thermal performance for cooling purposes compared to the requirements of an office.A decrease in air temperature was recorded in a range of 5.1℃ to 9.4℃.Over 70%of the total temperature difference was reached in the first well,where the average soil thermal disturbance at 5 cm was 2.8℃.The device achieved a maximum COP of 12.8 and a maximum effectiveness of 88.4%.With these results,it is concluded that the system is suitable for cooling purposes in areas with space *** work is novel since the dimensions available for installation in urbanized areas are considered and compared with the thermal requirements of an *** addition to the fact that there are no published works with vertical heat exchangers connected in series.
