Responses of Iron-Reducing Bacteria to Salinity and Organic Matter Amendment in Paddy Soils of Thailand

In paddy soils of Thailand, the addition of organic matter （OM） is used to efficiently limit the effect of salinity on rice culture and production. OM used as an amendment and fertilizer promotes the reduced condition and increases iron solubilization without provoking ferrous toxicity. In this study, the intricate biogeochemical role of iron-reducing bacteria （IRB） involved in the quality of water and soil of paddy fields, particularly when the paddy fields were subject to salinity and organic matter addition, were studied in paddy fields of Thailand. The results demonstrated that the addition of OM increased the proliferation of cultivable IRB and their specific activity. cultivable IRB communities decreased in the presence of salt. The presence of salt modified the structure of the bacterial populations by favoring the development of alkaline and moderately halophilic bacteria （Virgibacillus spp., Occanobacillus spp., and PaenibaciUus spp.）. The paddy soils studied contained very diversified （halosensitive, halotolerant, and halophilic） IRB populations that could be adapted to a variety of salinity conditions （0-90 g L-1 NacI） using different organic substrates （glucose, acetate, and soil organic matter） to maintain significant activities under extreme conditions of salinity. The rhizosphere of rice stimulated IRB community growth without organic matter, whereas organic matter addition limited the rhizosphere effect on IRB cultivable number in saline condition. The interactive action of salinity and organic amendment had a negative impact on the rhizosphere effect. The presence of specific iron-reducing populations （fermentative, iron-respiring, anaerobic, and facultative anaerobic）, having different behaviors under salt and redox stresses, appeared to be a key factor that contributed to the control or enhancement of the quality of water and soil in paddy fields.

Water distribution network(WDN)leakage management has received increased attention in recent *** of the most successful leakage-control strategies is to divide the network into District Metered Areas(DMAs).As a multi-staged technique,the generation of DMAs is a difficult task in design and implementation(i.e.,clustering,sectorization,and performance evaluation).Previous studies on DMAs implementation did not consider the potential use of existing valves in achieving the *** this work,a methodology is proposed for detecting clusters and reducing the cost of additional valves and DMA sectorization by considering existing valves as much as *** procedure of DMAs identification has been divided into three stages,i.e.,a)clusters identification;b)sectorization or boundaries optimization and c)performance evaluation of the partitioned *** proposed methodology is evaluated on a simple network and a real-world water network with the findings provided and compared to the DMAs,established for a raw water network with no existing *** is found that there is an adequate difference in cost of strategy implementation in both the cases for the network under consideration and the existing valve system achieved better network performance in terms of resilience index.

The effects of viscous dissipation and heat source/sink on fully developed mixed convection for the laminar flow in a parallel-plate vertical channel are investigated. The plate exchanges heat with an external fluid. Both conditions of equal and different reference temperatures of the external fluid are considered. First, the simple cases of the negligible Brinkman number or the negligible Grashof number are solved analytically. Then, the combined effects of buoyancy forces and viscous dissipation in the presence of heat source/sink are analyzed by a perturbation series method valid for small values of the perturbation parameter. To relax the conditions on the perturbation parameter, the velocity and temperature fields are solved by using the Runge-Kutta fourth-order method with the shooting technique. The velocity, temperature, skin friction, and Nusselt num- bers at the plates are discussed numerically and presented through graphs.

Steel containing carbon of 0.2% was coated with Ni and cr through electrodeposition,and subsequently annealed at 400 and 600 ℃ for 5 min,30 min,1 h and 2 *** annealing at 400 ℃,the formation and growth of oxides occurred in the form of petals along with voids,cracks and ***,at 600 ℃,the nucleation and growth of chromium oxide whiskers produced a surface almost free from crack,porosity and void for 1 h and 2 h of *** accordance with the surface morphology,the bare steel,as-deposited steel,all specimens deposited and annealed at 400 ℃,and specimens deposited and annealed at 600 ℃ for 5 and 30 min exhibited continuous corrosion in 3% of Nacl ***,the specimens deposited and annealed at 600 ℃ for 1 and 2 h exhibited an improved corrosion resistance in 3% of Nacl solution with high pitting potential due to presence of a dense passive oxide film almost free from voids at the surface.

The optimal duration of biological treatment, particularly anti-TNF, in inflammatory bowel disease （IBD） is a very important question both for patients and physicians. There is no published evidence to clearly and definitely answer this question. However data on natural history of IBD, long term safety of biologics, immunosuppressors （IS） cessation and some preliminary studies on biologics cessation may help us to discuss this topic. The decision to stop a biological treatment is currently based on a compromise between the benefits and risks associated with the prolongation of this treatment. IBD, more particularly cD, are characterized by the development of complications and the need for recurrent hospitalizations and surgeries in approximately 2/3 of cases. In these patients potentially in need of biological treatments, it is probable that, as it has been demonstrated for IS, the longer a stable remission has be achieved under treatment, the lower the risk of relapse is alter treatment cessation. Further prospective studies should now aim at disclosing patient characteristics associated with a low risk of relapse to imple- ment this strategy.

An analysis of underground power cables is performed using Fourier analysis with the objective of detecting fault and average life of the *** types of cables are used in this experiment:a normal cable,a shorted cable, and a cable with *** impedance in each case is computed and Fourier transformation is applied so that the resulting impedance magnitude and impedance phase can be examined in the frequency *** windowing techniques are applied to the experimental data to eliminate any *** analysis is then applied to the impedance data calculated from both the sending end voltage and differential *** analysis reveals differences in the frequency response of the three different types of a cable and can eventually be used as a measure for fault detection. Preliminary results reveal the differences in the frequency ***,Fourier type methods can be effectively used as low cost and viable solutions to identify and detect faults in underground cables.

Water pollution is among the most severe environmental problems in china, particularly in the vicinity of residential and urban areas. In almost all Asian countries, river monitoring is predominantly based on the analysis of chemical data. However, biological data are a worthwhile addition for the determination of the long-term ecological status of rivers and are particularly well-suited in case of steep pollution and disturbance gradients. A tool for river water quality assessment using benthic invertebrates has been developed for selected tributaries of the middle reach of the Yangtze River. Site selection was supported by a preclassification considering physico-chemical and hydromorphological conditions. Following a stratified sampling design, 34 samples were taken in small and large streams in the subtropical mountainous area of western Hubei （湖北）（china） covering a pollution gradient, accompanied by an extensive field protocol on stream characteristics and （physico-） chemical water analyses. The proposed assessment system is computed as an average score per taxon. The challenge to further consider the additional impact from global change into the development of such tools is discussed.

The extraction of nuclear matter properties from measured nuclear masses is investigated in the energy density functional formalism of *** is shown that the volume energy a1 and the nuclear incompressibility Ko depend essentially on μnN -+- pZ - 2EN,whereas the symmetry energy j and the density symmetry coefficient L as well as symmetry incompressibility Ks depend essentially on μn - μp,where μp ＝μp - Ec/ Z,μn and μp are the neutron and proton chemical potentials respectively,EN the nuclear energy,and Ec the coulomb *** obtained symmetry energy is j ＝ 28.5 MeV,while other coefficients are uncertain within ranges depending on the model of nuclear equation of state.
