Underground mine pillars provide natural stability to the mine area,allowing safe operations for workers and *** prior research has been conducted to understand pillar failure mechanics and design safe pillar ***,limited studies(mostly based on empirical field observation and small-scale laboratory tests)have considered pillar-support interactions under monotonic loading conditions for the design of pillar-support *** study used a series of large-scale laboratory compression tests on porous limestone blocks to analyze rock and support behavior at a sufficiently large scale(specimens with edge length of 0.5 m)for incorporation of actual support elements,with consideration of different w/h *** unsupported and supported(grouted rebar rockbolt and wire mesh)tests were conducted,and the surface deformations of the specimens were monitored using three-dimensional(3D)digital image correlation(DIC).Rockbolts instrumented with distributed fiber optic strain sensors were used to study rockbolt strain distribution,load mobilization,and localized deformation at different w/h *** axial and bending strains were observed in the rockbolts,which became more prominent in the post-peak region of the stress-strain curve.

First Search for Pulsed CH Maser Emission Stimulated by a Pulsar

We present the first search for pulsed CH maser emission potentially stimulated by PSR j1644-4559,conducted using the ultra-wide-bandwidth low-frequency receiver on Murriyang,CSIRO's Parkes Radio *** targeted three CHΛ-doublet transitions at 3264,3335,and 3349 MHz,with a variability timescale of78 *** detected ten CH emission features at 3335 and 3349 MHz,and seven features at 3264 MHz,during both pulsar-ON and pulsar-OFF *** observed velocities align with the OH emission and absorption reported by a previous study,suggesting a close spatial association between CH and OH *** derived column densities for CH clouds within the Parkes beam range from 0.05 to 9.8×1013cm-2,indicating that these clouds are likely in diffuse and translucent *** limits for CH column densities within the pulsar beam ranged from 0.3 to 9.8×*** of these column densities suggests that CH clouds may exhibit clumpiness and *** significant stimulated emission feature was detected in the optical depth ***,as part of our search for pulsed stimulated emission,we investigated the potential CH absorption of the pulsar signal and found none,in agreement with astrophysical *** upper limits for the potential maser amplification factors towards PSR j1644-4559 at 3264,3335,and 3349 MHz are 1.014,1.009,and 1.009,*** study demonstrates the feasibility of detecting pulsed CH maser emission in the interstellar medium stimulated by pulsar photons.

Late Paleozoic–Early Mesozoic tectonic evolution of the Zongwulong Shan-Qinghai Nanshan tectonic belt in the northern Qaidam continent， northern Tibet

The Zongwulong Shan-Qinghai Nanshan tectonic belt of the northern Tibet Plateau experienced a protracted tectonic history， including the openings and closures of the Proto- and Paleo-Tethyan Oceans. Although the tectonic belt has been extensively studied， details regarding the tectonic processes involved in its development remain controversial. To better constrain the tectonic processes of this tectonic belt， we conducted detailed field geological mapping， zircon U-Pb geochronology， and whole-rock geochemical and Sr-Nd isotopic analyses. Our results show that intrusive rocks in the tectonic belt crystallized in ca. 292–233 Ma， perhaps in an arc/subduction setting. Geochemical and Sr-Nd isotopic data suggest that early Permian–late Triassic ultramafic-intermediate intrusions were sourced from the enriched mantle， whereas intermediate-acidic rocks were sourced from mixed crust-mantle. We present the tectonic model that involves: (1) Early Devonian–early Permian intracontinental extension occurred in the northern margin of the Qaidam continent (ca. 416 Ma–292 Ma); (2) Early Permian–late Triassic northward subduction of the Paleo-Tethyan Ocean resulted in arc magmatism (ca. 292 Ma–233 Ma); and (3) subsequent late Triassic intracontinental extension (ca. 233 Ma–215 Ma). Our results suggest that the late Paleozoic–early Mesozoic development of the Zongwulong Shan-Qinghai Nanshan was related to the opening， subduction， and slab retreat of the Paleo-Tethyan Ocean， which has key implications for the tectonic evolution of the northern Tibetan Plateau.

Telomeres: The Promise of New Cancer Therapies

Telomeres have been a subject of genetic research since the 1930s. They play a crucial role in cancer biology, as they influence both cellular senescence and genomic stability. In cancer cells, dysfunctional telomeres can lead to chromosomal fusions and, through deregulation of telomerase, allow replication of mutated chromosomes that might otherwise lead to apoptosis. Research is now focused on improving telomere-based cancer cell detection and developing potential therapies that inhibit telomerase activity in cancerous cells. Telomere research is crucial in understanding the molecular mechanisms influencing tumor growth and invasiveness because of the central role played by telomeres in various cancer types. Several telomerase inhibitors and immunotherapy treatments are in pre-clinical or clinical development. Research on the role of telomeres in oncogenesis has made significant strides, but obstacles remain, including a lack of high-resolution structural understanding, inadequate preclinical models, and concern over potential side effects. Even so, the current path of telomere research holds promise.

Changes in the liver transplant evaluation process during the early COVID-19 era and the role of telehealth

BACKGROUND Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)disrupted healthcare and led to increased telehealth *** explored the impact of COVID-19 on liver transplant evaluation(LTE).AIM To understand the impact of telehealth on LTE during COVID-19 and to identify disparities in outcomes disaggregated by sociodemographic *** This was a retrospective study of patients who initiated LTE at our center from 3/16/20-3/16/21(“COVID-19 era”)and the year prior(3/16/19-3/15/20,“pre-COVID-19 era”).We compared LTE duration times between eras and explored the effects of telehealth and inpatient evaluations on LTE duration,listing,and pretransplant *** One hundred and seventy-eight patients were included in the pre-COVID-19 era cohort and one hundred and ninety-nine in the COVID-19 era *** percent(58/199)of COVID-19 era initial LTE were telehealth,compared to 0%(0/178)*** were more inpatient evaluations during COVID-19 era(40%vs 28%,P<0.01).Among outpatient encounters,telehealth use for initial LTE during COVID-19 era did not impact likelihood of listing,pretransplant mortality,or time to LTE and *** times to LTE and listing during COVID-19 were shorter than pre-COVID-19,driven by increased inpatient *** factors were not predictive of *** COVID-19 demonstrates a shift to telehealth and inpatient *** does not impact LTE or listing duration,likelihood of listing,or mortality,suggesting telehealth may facilitate LTE without negative outcomes.
