Integration of a hybrid vibration prediction model for railways into noise mapping software: methodology, assumptions and demonstration

Within the SILVARSTAR proj.ct, a user-friendly frequency-based hybrid prediction tool has been developed to assess the environmental impact of railway-induced vibration. This tool is integrated in existing noise mapping software. Following modern vibration standards and guidelines, the vibration velocity level in a building in each frequency band is expressed as the sum of a force density (source term), line source transfer mobility (propagation term) and building correction factor (receiver term). A hybrid approach is used that allows for a combination of experimental data and numerical predictions, providing increased flexibility and applicability. The train and track properties can be selected from a database or entered as numerical values. The user can select soil impedance and transfer functions from a database, pre-computed for a wide range of parameters with state-of-the-art models. An experimental database of force densities, transfer functions, free field vibration and input parameters is also provided. The building response is estimated by means of building correction factors. Assumptions within the modelling approach are made to reduce computation time but these can influence prediction accuracy;this is quantified for the case of a nominal intercity train running at different speeds on a ballasted track supported by homogeneous soil of varying stiffness. The paper focuses on the influence of these parameters on the compliance of the track-soil system and the free field response. We also demonstrate the use and discuss the validation of the vibration prediction tool for the case of a high-speed train running on a ballasted track in Lincent (Belgium).

A short overview of the lead iodide residue impact and regulation strategies in perovskite solar cells

Lead iodide(PbI2) is a vital raw material for preparing perovskite solar cells(PSCs),and it not only takes part in forming the light absorption layer but also remains in the grain boundary as a *** other words,the PbI2 content in the precursor and as formed film will affect the efficiency and stability of the *** moderate residual PbI2,it passivates the bulk/surface defects of perovskite,reduces the interfacial recombination,promotes the perovskite stability,minimizes the device hysteresis,and so *** PbI2 residue will reduce the interfacial passivation effect and device *** addition to facilitating the non-radiative recombination,over PbI2 residue can also lead to electronic insulation in the grain boundary and deteriorate the device ***,the impact and regulation of PbI2 residue on the device performance and stability is still not fully ***,a comprehensive and detailed review is presented by discussing the PbI2 residue impact and its regulation strategies(i.e., elimination,facilitation and conversion of the residue PbI2) to manipulate the PbI2 content,distribution and ***,we also show future outlooks in this field,with an aim to help further the progression of high-efficiency and stable PSCs.

Iron deficiency anemia(IDA) is associated with a number of pathological gastrointestinal conditions other than inflammatory bowel disease, and also with liver disorders. Different factors such as chronic bleeding, malabsorption and inflammation may contribute to IDA. Although patients with symptoms of anemia are frequently referred to gastroenterologists, the approach to diagnosis and selection of treatment as well as follow-up measures is not standardized and suboptimal. Iron deficiency, even without anemia, can substantially impact physical and cognitive function and reduce quality of life. Therefore, regular iron status assessment and awareness of the clinical consequences of impaired iron status are critical. While the range of options for treatment of IDA is increasing due to the availability of effective and well-tolerated parenteral iron preparations, a comprehensive overview of IDA and its therapy in patients with gastrointestinal conditions is currently lacking. Furthermore, definitions and assessment of iron status lack harmonization and there is a paucity of expert guidelines on this topic. This review summarizes current thinking concerning IDA as a common co-morbidity in specific gastrointestinal and liver disorders, and thus encourages a more unified treatment approach to anemia and iron deficiency, while offering gastroenterologists guidance on treatment options for IDA in everyday clinical practice.

An SBFEM-Based Model for Hydraulic Fracturing in Quasi-Brittle Materials

A numerical model based on the scaled boundary finite element method is devel- oped to simulate the hydraulic fracturing in concrete-like quasi-brittle materials using cohesive interface elements. The shadow domain method developed previously （Yang and Deeks in eng Fract Mech 143（4）：333 354, 2007） is extended to consider crack-width-dependent hydraulic pres- sure and cohesive traction, so that the stress intensity factors caused by both crack-face forces are semi-analytically calculated separately in the same way. The crack propagation is determined by the criterion of KI ≥ 0, and the propagation direction by the linear elastic fracture mechanics criteria. Two examples of concrete structures are modeled, and the results are in good agreement with the experimental data and others numerical results.

Creep of a polycrystalline near γ-TiAl alloy in two fully lamellar conditions is presented. A lamellar structure with fine interface spacing and planar grain boundaries provides improved creep resistance. The lamellar structure with wide interface spacing and interlocked grain boundaries has ze the creep resistance of near γ-TiAl with a lamellar microstructure requires narrow lamellar interface spacing and interlocked lamellae along grain boundaries.

The effects of exercise on cognition in Parkinson’s disease: a systematic review

In the press shop of most sheet metals, sheet material undergoes complex strain path and also the formability of the sheet material was limited by the stretchability of the material. Therefore, the precise prediction of path-dependent FLD based on M-K approach using generalization of Hill's 1979 anisotropic yield criterion and introducing a strain gradient effect in the constitutive equation. Also, the theoretically obtained FLD will be compared with experimental data for steel sheets.

Size prediction of κ-carrageenan droplets formed in co-flowing immiscible liquid

The formation of K-carrageenan droplets in channel emulsification was experimentally investigated. The dispersed phase was vertically inj.cted into co-flowing immiscible palm oil in the direction of gravity. This study focused on predicting K-carrageenan drop size using force balance analysis. The force balance model considers the interracial tension to be the solitary attaching force, while a combination of the drag force from the co-flowing palm oil and the body force of the extruding K-carrageenan liquid act as the detaching forces. The conventional model gave poor predictions for droplet size, with an average relative deviation of 23%. This large deviation could be attributed to necking phenomena and an underestimation of the drag force generated on the shear-thinning K-carrageenan solution. By incorporating correction factors, the average relative deviation of the force balance model dronned to 4%.
