A nonhomogeneous Markov chain is applied to the study of the air quality classification in Mexico City when the so-called criterion pollutants are used. We consider the indices associated with air quality using two regulations where different ways of classification are taken into account. Parameters of the model are the initial and transition probabilities of the chain. They are estimated under the Bayesian point of view through samples generated directly from the corresponding posterior distributions. Using the estimated parameters, the probability of having an air quality index in a given hour of the day is obtained.

Mammillaria pectinifera is an endemic, short-globose cactus species, included in the IUCN list as a threatened species with only 18 remaining populations in the Tehuacfin-Cuicatlan Valley in central Mexico. We evaluated the population genetic diversity and structure, connectivity, recent bottlenecks and population size, using nuclear microsatellites. M. pectinifera showed high genetic diversity but some evidence of heterozygote deficiency （F15）, recent bottlenecks in some populations and reductions in population size. Also, we found low population genetic differentiation and high values of connectivity for M. pectinifera, as the result of historical events of gene flow through pollen and seed dispersal. M. pectinifera occurs in sites with some degree of disturbance leading to the isolation of its populations and decreasing the levels of gene flow among them. Excessive deforestation also changes the original vegetation damaging the natural habitats. This species will become extinct if it is not properly preserved. Furthermore, this species has some ecological features that make them more vulnerable to disturbance such as a very low growth rates and long life cycles. We suggest in situ conservation to prevent the decrease of population sizes and loss of genetic diversity in the natural protected areas such as the Tehuacan-Cuicatlan Biosphere Reserve. In addition, a long-term ex situ conservation program is need to construct seed banks, and optimize seed germination and plant establishment protocols that restore disturbed habitats. Furthermore, creating a supply of living plants for trade is critical to avoid further extraction of plants from nature.

Thermal plasma technology provides a stable and long term treatment of mixed wastes through vitrification processes. In this work, a transferred plasma system was realized to vitrify mixed wastes, taking advantage of its high power density, enthalpy and chemical reactivity as well as its rapid quenching and high operation temperatures. To characterize the plasma discharge, a temperature diagnostic is realized by means of optical emission spectroscopy （OES）. To typify the morphological structure of the wastes samples~ scan- ning electron microscopy （SEM）, and X-ray diffraction （XRD） techniques were applied before and after the plasma treatment.

The use of antidepressants is widespread in modern times. Thus, they present a potential risk for ecosystems due to occurrence in domestic sewage containing unaltered metabolites and structures, even after the treatment plants have processed the sewage. The current research investigated the sorption and desorption of antidepressants(citalopram, venlafaxine, fluoxetine, sertraline, and amitriptyline) and caffeine from freshwater sediment and sewage sludge. The samples of freshwater sediment were collected in a river spring in an area with few anthropogenic sources of pollution and samples of sewage sludge were taken from stabilization ponds of a sewage treatment. The matrices were mainly composed of organic fractions, sediment of humic nature, and aliphatic biomolecules in sludges. The presence of silt and clay in the sediment proved to be important for the sorption process when compared to the flocs and colloidal structure of the sludge. The kinetic study indicated pseudo-first order behavior. The Freundlich isotherm was satisfactorily used in the interpretation of sorption and desorption for all analytes and matrices. The high percentages obtained for desorption suggest analyte mobility, which is more intense in the sludge than in the sediment since each matrix has a different composition. It can be considered that the information obtained here reinforces the ecotoxicological concern with respect to pharmacological residues in the environment, as processes of retention by sorption in the sludge and the sediment have been confirmed, as well as the preferential partition of some analytes by the aqueous phase.

This study assessed the performance and diversity of microbial communities in multi-stage sub-surface flow constructed wetland systems（CWs）. Our aim was to assess the impact of configuration on treatment performance and microbial diversity in the systems. Results indicate that at loading rates up to 100 g BOD5/（m2·day）, similar treatment performances can be achieved using either a 3 or 4 stage configuration. In the case of phosphorus（P）, the impact of configuration was less obvious and a minimum of 80% P removal can be expected for loadings up to 10 g P/（m2·day） based on the performance results obtained within the first16 months of operation. Microbial analysis showed an increased bacterial diversity in stage four compared to the first stage. These results indicate that the design and configuration of multi-stage constructed wetland systems may have an impact on the treatment performance and the composition of the microbial community in the systems, and such knowledge can be used to improve their design and performance.

In this paper,an extensive characterisation of a range of carbon blacks(CB)with similar surface area but different surface chemistry is carried out by flow calorimetry,Raman spectroscopy,dynamic water vapour sorption,instrumental gas analysis,nitrogen adsorption/desorption and high potential *** these carbon materials as supports,Pt/CB electrocatalysts are prepared by microwave-assisted polyol-mediated synthesis in gram ***,morphological and electrochemical properties of the prepared electrocatalysts are evaluated by X-ray diffraction,transmission electron microscopy,rotating disc electrode and in situ fuel cell characterisation of the corresponding membrane-electrode *** obtained results allow to establish a relationship between surface chemistry and electrochemical properties useful for the design of Pt/C catalyst layers with high performance and stability.

Transient liquid phase （TLP） bonding of 304 stainless steel with nickel based filler metal, BNi-9, was performed to study the influence of silicon nanoparticles （NPs） on the mechanical and structural properties of the bonding area. It was found that silicon NPs act as a melting point depressant in the brazing process; the formation of silicon TLP induces the dissolution of elements of the metal filler and promotes a uniform distribution in the bonding area. Silicon NPs induce the development of smaller eutectic structures in the melting zone; it has been related to microhardness measurements, which are lower when the silicon NPs are used in the brazing process.

Obj.ctives: The purpose of this study is to analyse the practical implementation of regional and na-tional policies through the Protocol of Care of Children and Adolescents in School (2010) in Extremadura Region (Spain), and to compare its contents with the international standards of diabetes care at school defined by American Diabetes Association and International Diabetes Federation. The measures not only affect the security and diabetes care, but also inclusion and the right to health. Methods: A documental comparative analysis between the local and international standards about diabetes care in school setting is carried out. This analysis is framed in a larger proj.ct focused on the study of health promoting school and diabetes education, in which perceptions of children and adolescents with diabetes, their parents and school staff were studied. Results: The Protocol of Care of Children and Adolescents in School (2010) contains some international recommendations about the care of T1DM at school, but in other cases the measures are non-specific. The distribution of responsibilities for care at school is unclear and no monitoring and evaluation indicators are defined. Some elements are identified to be implemented in the tool to favour the security, management of T1DM care and wellbeing. In general, these elements refer to school plan for diabetes care, school organization and teachers, and school community training. Conclusion: It is required to develop specific policies and decisive action to ensure the right to health of children with diabetes and the full application of international standards for diabetes care at school.
