Synthesis of ZSM-22 in Static and Dynamic System Using Seeds

ZSM-22 was synthesized using various sources of silica, organic template 1,6-diaminohexane, under hydrothermal conditions, with and without agitation during crystallization. Subsequently, the crystallized material was used as seeds to accelerate the crystallization process. Characterization of the ZSM-22 samples was performed by XRD, ATG/DTG and FT-IR. It was found that it is possible to synthesize ZSM-22 employing colloidal silica and pyrolytic silica as silicon sources only if the system is stirred during crystallization. The crystallization time for these systems was 13 hours, longer times of crystallization do not significantly increase the crystallinity of the sample. The addition of seeds significantly accelerates the crystallization of ZSM-22, reducing the crystallization time to only 7 hours, with stirring and with systems employing colloidal silica.

In this study, Density Functional Theory including a dispersion correction is employed to model and analyze the structural, electronic and local reactivity of the (100) surface of felodipine. The surface energy calculated at the Generalized Gradient Approximation (GGA) level, along with plane waves as basis set and ultrasoft pseudopotentials, shows that the (100) surface is the most stable as compared to the (010) and (110) ones. In particular, we have focused on performing a quantitative study of the reactivity of the surface by means of the Fukui function and through the HOMO and LUMO populations. Our results can be related to some applications in the pharmaceutical chemistry of this compound.

Introduction: Left Ventricle Postinfarction Pseudoaneurysm (LVPS)—false aneurysm occurs after a free-wall rupture contained by the adj.cent pericardium. LVPS lacks the normal structure of the ventricular wall and disrupts the normal chamber anatomy. However, the natural history, clinical presentation and surgical outcome are still unclear. For that reason, it is necessary to describe the most relevant anatomical characteristics of LVPS and the appropriate surgical strategies currently applied. Methods: We reviewed the anatomical characteristics of several patients diagnosed of LVPS and the surgical technique performed. In this work two different anatomical types of LVPS are described in detail, with the surgical and structural implications for left ventricle reconstruction. Results: There are two different anatomical forms of LVPS: 1) Typical pseudoaneurysm, with a small gateway neck between the Left Ventricle and the false aneurysm chamber (Figure 1(A));2) Atypical pseudoaneurysm, in which the anatomical defect is bigger, without well-defined edges, extends over a large segment of infarcted and thinned myocardial tissue. In both cases, the therapeutics targets and the surgical techniques used were directed to restore the normal geometry of Left Ventricle, keeping the optimal mitral valve function. Conclusions: The surgical key-step is to preserve or to remodel the ventricular chamber anatomy. This fact restores the ventricular geometry, not only removing the wall discontinuity that generated the pseudoaneurysm. Nevertheless, final prognosis depends on the underlying ischemic cardiomyopathy and mechanical complications, such us mitral regurgitation or ventricular septal defect.

Obesity has become a maj.r global health challenge and it is a risk factor for the development of several comorbid conditions. Additionally, obesity has considerable economic consequences. Obesity is a multifactorial condition that arises from independent influences of genetic and social-environmental factors on food intake and physical activity. It has been difficult to establish clear associations between weight status and the intake of single foods or food groups. In most people, the predisposition to obesity has a polygenic basis, which means that obesity will develop if an individual has several polygenic variants that increase body weight. The FTO gene was the first GWAS-identified obesity-susceptibility gene and since then other polygenic variants that are associated with BMI and dietary intake have also been identified. However, this is still an active area of research as more polygenetic variants await discovery.

This paper presents the influence of the ratio IA/PA and concentration of volatile acids (TVA) in the operational stability of a UASB reactor treating swine waste water. The treatment system in real scale was constituted of decanter, followed by the UASB reactor with volume of 7.4 m3 and 11.5 m3, respectively. It has been observed a large oscillation of the ratio IA/IP in the UASB reactor with an average value of 0.39, and average efficiency of removal of BOD and COD of 79.8 and 79.3%, respectively, at the start, dropping to 0.12 in the continuity of the experiment, including during overload, in which the removal efficiencies of COD and BOD reached values below 10%. The TVA average values were 913 mg·L-1 in the UASB reactor, increasing considerably in the overload period, reaching values higher than 4500 mg·L-1, indicating an accumulation of volatile acids and reduced efficiency of the UASB reactor in removal of organic matter. We conclude that the monitoring of the values of the ratio IA/PA and TVA is very useful instruments and easy to determine in the monitoring of the UASB reactor, enabling to predict possible instabilities in the reactor, allowing corrective actions in a timely manner.

Ni-Cr-Mo alloys have been widely used as fixed dental prostheses. Recast process influence on corrosion behavior of Ni-Cr-Mo dental alloy in simulated physiological serum has been investigated using chemical and electrochemical techniques. Ni-Cr-Mo alloy recast by induction (induction) or by blowtorch (torch) has exhibited similar dendritic structures with wide and precipitate grains in their boundaries. The torch alloy has presented good corrosion resistance in physiological serum. Passivation process provides this corrosion resistance. Passivation of Ni-Cr-Mo alloy is often attributed to the formation of a thin and compact layer of chromium oxide (Cr2O3). This film is self-limiting because it acts as a barrier to the oxygen transport and metal ions. This film stability will depend on its solubility to the working temperature. Different recast procedures change electrochemical parameters as stabilizing potential in open circuit, current density and passivation interval.

With the increase in antimicrobial resistance,it has become necessary to explore alternative approaches for combating and preventing ***-cinnamaldehyde(CNM)and Benzyl4-amino(B4AM)are bioactive compounds derived from chalcones but with restricted solubility in aqueous *** can enhance the solubility of compounds and can be a promising alternative in the development of novel antimicrobials,with reduced side effects and prolonged *** obj.ctive of this study was to evaluate the stability of oil-in-water nanoemulsions loaded with two distinct types of chalcones at two different dosages,to propose a stable formulation with antimicrobial *** showed that nanoemulsions presented high encapsulation efficiency,low polydispersity index(PDI)and particle size below 200 nm,indicating that emulsification was a suitable method for nanoemulsion *** with higher dosages exhibited significant antimicrobial effects when compared to free chalcones and positive ***,B4AM nanoemulsions at higher dosages showed expressive activity against Salmonella minnesota,with a 420%greater inhibitory response compared to the free form and showing equivalence to the positive *** nanoemulsions showed excellent inhibitory activity at the highest dosage,equivalent to the positive control against *** and Staphylococcus *** greater number of conj.gated bonds in CNM increased the antimicrobial activity in comparison with B4AM,and the formation of nanometric domains enhanced the bioavailability,being a promising alternative for antimicrobial applications.

Small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles have been receiving an increasingly interest in the last decades, fostered by the need of vehicles able to perform surveillance, communications relay links, ship decoys, and detection of biological, chemical, or nuclear materials. Smaller and handy vehicles Micro Air vehicles (MAVs) become even more challenging when DARPA launched in 1997 a pilot study into the design of portable (150 mm) flying vehicles to operate in D3—dull, dirty and dangerous—environments. More recently DARPA launched a Nano Air Vehicle (NAV) program with the obj.ctive of developing and demonstrating small (<100 mm;<10 g) lightweight air vehicles with the potential to perform indoor and outdoor missions. The current investigation is focused on the mechanisms involved with natural locomotion (propulsion and lift should not be considered independently). Biological systems with interesting applications to MAVs are generally inspired on flying insects or birds;however, similarly to the aerodynamics of flight, powered swimming requires animals to overcome drag by producing thrust. Commonalities between natural flying and swimming are analyzed together with flow control issues as a purpose of improvement on biology-inspired or biomimetic concepts for Micro Air Vehicles implementation.
