X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy can provide chemical and, if acquired at different angles, depth-profile information. Data-fitting is employed to quantify the various peaks contributing to a core-level spectrum. In most cases, each peak corresponds to a particular chemical environment. When the binding energy difference among the peaks is equal or larger than the width of the peaks, the quantification is straightforward. For cases in which the binding energy is smaller, the accuracy on the determination of the area, width, and center of the peaks becomes much more dependent on the noise level of the data. For quantitative studies, it is fundamental to employ data analysis methods that are the least sensible to noise. Sequential-fitting is a common practice on ARXPS data analysis. It consist on first estimating the center and width of the peaks from the data acquired at one of the angles, and then using those parameters as a starting guess for fitting the data for the rest of the angles. An improvement of this method consists on averaging the centers and widths of the peaks obtained at the different angles, and then employing these values to assess the areas of the peaks for each angle. The full-use of the combined information contained in the data-set is optimized by the simultaneous fitting method. It consists of the assessment of the center and width of the peaks by fitting the data at all the angles simultaneously. Computer-generated data was employed to compare the sensitivity regarding to noise between the sequential, averaged-sequential, and simultaneous fitting methods. It will be shown that the latter is significantly more robust and could provide reliable results even for very noisy data. Among the examples of the application of the simultaneous fitting method that will be presented is 1) the analysis of the O 1s and N 1s XPS data from hafnium oxynitride grown on silicon oxynitride nanofilms and 2) the discrimination of the sp2 and sp3 contributions to the

We present a method to fabricate handcrafted thermoelectric devices on standard office paper *** devices are based on thin films of WS_(2),Te,and BP(P-type semiconductors)and TiS_(3)and TiS_(2)(N-type semiconductors),deposited by simply rubbing powder of these materials against *** thermoelectric properties of these semiconducting films revealed maximum Seebeck coefficients of(+1.32±0.27)mV K^(-1)and(-0.82±0.15)mV K^(-1)for WS_(2)and TiS_(3),***,Peltier elements were fabricated by interconnecting the P-and N-type films with graphite electrodes.A thermopower value up to 6.11 mV K^(-1)was obtained when the Peltier element were constructed with three *** findings of this work show proof-of-concept devices to illustrate the potential application of semiconducting van der Waals materials in future thermoelectric power generation as well as temperature sensing for low-cost disposable electronic devices.

BACKGROUND The influence of Helicobacter-pylori(***)infection and the characteristics of gastric cancer(GC)on tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte(TIL)levels has not been extensively *** of infiltrating-immune-cell subtypes as well as survival is necessary to obtain comprehensive *** To determine the rates of deficient mismatch-repair(dMMR),HER2-status and *** infection and their association with TIL levels in *** Samples from 503 resected GC tumors were included and TIL levels were evaluated following the international-TILs-working-group recommendations with assessment of the intratumoral(IT),stromal(ST)and invasive-border(IB)*** density of CD3,CD8 and CD163 immune cells,and dMMR and HER2-status were determined by immunohistochemistry(IHC).*** infection was evaluated by routine histology and quantitative PCR(qPCR)in a subset of *** dMMR was found in 34.4%,HER2+in 5%and ***-positive in 55.7%of *** IT-TIL was associated with grade-3(P=0.038),while ST-TIL with grade-1(P<0.001),intestinal-histology(P<0.001)and no-recurrence(P=0.003).dMMR was associated with high TIL levels in the ST(P=0.019)and IB(P=0.01)compartments,and STCD3(P=0.049)and ST-CD8(P=0.05)***2-was associated with high IT-CD8(P=0.009).*** was associated with high IT-TIL levels(P=0.009)when assessed by routine-histology,and with high TIL levels in the 3 compartments(P=0.002-0.047)and CD8 density in the IT and ST compartments(P=0.001)when assessed by qPCR.A longer overall survival was associated with low IT-CD163(P=0.003)and CD8/CD3(P=0.001 in IT and P=0.002 in ST)and high IT-CD3(P=0.021),ST-CD3(P=0.003)and CD3/CD163(P=0.002).CONCLUSION TIL levels were related to dMMR and *** CD8/CD3 and high CD163/CD3 were associated with lower recurrence and longer survival.

Clinical and Demographic Profile of Women with Uterine Fibroids Living in Puerto Rico

Introduction: Uterine leiomyomas, or fibroids, are prevalent benign tumors affecting up to 70% of reproductive-age women in the United States, significantly impacting productivity and quality of life. Despite their commonality, the epidemiology and clinical patterns of leiomyomas in Puerto Rico remain inadequately researched. Methods: This study conducted a secondary data analysis using clinical, menstrual cycle characteristics, and demographic data from self-administered questionnaires of women undergoing diagnostic laparoscopy for endometriosis in Puerto Rico. Chi-square tests and t-tests analyzed categorical and continuous variables, respectively (p Results: Among 1,610 endometriosis cases, 312 included uterine fibroids. Prevalence estimates were 10.3% (40 years). Primiparous women averaged 22.14 years, with 40.71% having 2 - 3 pregnancies and 26.28% experiencing miscarriages. Symptoms included infertility (29.5%), dyspareunia (40.7%), severe pain (50%), and dysmenorrhea (75.6%). Comorbidities included ovarian cysts (52.2%) and abnormal uterine bleeding (37.8%). Conclusions: Advanced age, parity, and comorbidities like diabetes and hypertension were prevalent in our cohort. Understanding the epidemiological profile of women living in Puerto Rico with uterine fibroids is crucial for improving diagnostic awareness and enhancing patient care.

This work presented the feasibility of cerium recovery by Al-Mg alloy through the metallothermic reduction of CeO2 to obtain a master alloy Al-4%Ce. The master alloy obtained in this investigation was for the grain refinement and modification of Al-Si alloys. The reagent was incorporated into a molten alloy using the submerged powder inj.ction technique, and metallic samples were obtained during inj.ction. Chemical and microstructural analyses （by inductively coupled plasma （ICP） and scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, respectively） confirmed the possibility of Ce uptake in the bath （0 to 4 wt.%）, as CeO2 was reduced through metallothermic reactions in the molten alloys. Based on the characterization of reaction products, the sequence of the reaction was proposed.

Areas with Potential for Commercial Timber Plantations of Enterolobium cyclocarpum (j.cq.) Griseb. in Michoacán, México

Michoacán has a deforested area of 525,260 ha, representing 52,526 ha per year, mainly caused by anthropogenic disturbances such as agricultural burning and forest fires (50%), change of use of land for extensive livestock farming (28%), agriculture (17%) and illegal logging (5%). The establishment of forest plantations is an alternative for reducing the pressure on natural forests and creating options for sustainable development and diversification of production and conversion of land for agricultural and livestock fragmented for forestry purposes. The aim of this study was to determine the potential areas for commercial forest plantations of Enterolobium cyclocarpum (j.cq.) Griseb. in the State of Michoacán, México, through the use of Geographic information systems (GIS). Areas were identified using IDRISI 32, and ArcView software. Screening variables include annual temperature, annual precipitation, land use, soil type, elevation and slope. Products obtained were field verified. Two maps where potential areas for the establishment of commercial forest plantations of E. cyclocarpum shown were obtained. Potential areas for commercial forest plantation establishment are (0% - 15% slope) for commercial forest plantations mechanized was 57,227 ha and (15% - 30% slope) for manual plantations was 6273 ha. The total area in the state with potential for the establishment of the species in the study was 63,500 ha.

The coal mining residues from past mining activities in the Douro Coalfield are emplaced in many dumps near the mining areas,causing substantial environmental *** study aims to contribute to the investigation of environmental impacts caused by the disposal of the residue in the Douro Coalfield through the determination of the geochemical composition of waste materials collected at 3 e 15 m depth,and of the water-leachable fraction produced by percolation in these materials inside the *** elements with higher concentration in the leachates are Ca,Cd,Co,Mg,Mn,Na,Ni,S,and Zn,indicating that they are the most easily leached and accessible elements for percolation and mobilization into the *** presence of these elements in the leachates is principally attributed to their occurrence as water-soluble ions in clays and sulphides affected by natural weathering conditions,which promotes their breakdown and occurrence as exchangeable *** leachates are classified as acid *** weathering and leaching in the Sao Pedro da Cova waste dump are the principal~paths for chemical elements to be percolated and mobilized to environment,posing risk to the soils,waters and ecosystems in the surrounding areas.

An AlCoCuCrFeNiTi high-entropy alloy(HEA) was prepared by mechanical alloying and sintering to study the effect of Ti addition to the widely studied AlCoCuCrFeNi system. The structural and microstructural characteristics were investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), and transmission electron microscopy(TEM). The formation of four micrometric phases was detected: a Cu-rich phase with a face-centered cubic(fcc) structure, a body-centered cubic(bcc) solid solution with Cu-rich plate-like precipitates(fcc), an ordered bcc phase, and a tetragonal structure. The XRD patterns corroborate the presence of a mixture of bcc-, fcc-, and tetragonal-structured phases. The Vickers hardness of the alloy under study was more than twice that of the AlCoCuCrFeNi alloy. Nanoindentation tests were performed to evaluate the mechanical response of the individual phases to elucidate the relationship between chemical composition, crystal structure, and mechanical performance of the multiphase microstructure of the AlCoCuCrFeNiTi HEA.

Sensitivity-based Vulnerability Assessment of State Estimation

We propose a technique to assess the vulnerability of the power system state estimation. We aim at identifying the measurements that have a high potential of being the target of false data inj.ction attacks. From the perspective of the adversary, such measurements have the following characteristics: ① being influential on the variable estimates;② corrupting their measured values is likely to be undetected. Additionally, such characteristics should not change significantly with the system operation condition. The proposed technique provides a systematic way of identifying the measurements with such characteristics. We illustrate our methodology on a 4-bus system, the New England 39-bus system, and the IEEE 118-bus test system, respectively.

By combining ab initio calculations and experiments, we demonstrate how the band gap of the transition metal trichalcogenide TiS3 can be modified by inducing tensile or compressive strain. In addition, using our calculations, we predicted that the material would exhibit a transition from a direct to an indirect band gap upon application of a compressive strain in the direction of easy electrical transport. The ability to control the band gap and its nature could have a significant impact on the use of TiS3 for optical applications. We go on to verify our prediction via optical absorption experiments that demonstrate a band gap increase of up to 9% （from 0.99 to 1.08 eV） upon application of tensile stress along the easy transport direction.
