Exploring public perception and willingness to pay for a renewable source of energy: evidence from an emerging economy of renewable-energy development

The study focuses on the transition from conventional energy sources to sustainable renewable energy (RE) in Palestine, particularly in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The research aims to understand the relationship between key factors and residents' willingness to invest in the RE sector, with a specific focus on the impact of education. Using the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology, the study analyzes data from 400 residents through a questionnaire and employs ordinary least-squares regression analysis with Eviews 12. The key findings indicate that residents' inclination to invest in RE is significantly influenced by factors such as resource availability, knowledge level and power outages. Moreover, the study suggests that educated residents are more likely to invest in RE when factors such as knowledge, effort expectation, enabling conditions and resource availability are relatively high. The conclusion emphasizes the importance of policymakers' allocating sufficient funds to research and development to promote technological innovation in RE sources, thereby enhancing the population's energy efficiency. The repair of large load-bearing bone defects requires superior mechanical strength, a feat that a single hydrogel scaffold cannot achieve. The obj.ctive is to seamlessly integrate optimal microarchitecture, mechanical robustness, vascularisation, and osteoinductive biological responses to effectively address these critical load-bearing bone defects. To confront this challenge, three-dimensional (3D) printing technology was employed to prepare a polycaprolactone (PCL)-based integrated scaffold. Within the voids of 3D printed PCL scaffold, a methacrylate gelatin (GelMA)/methacrylated silk fibroin (SFMA) composite hydrogel incorporated with parathyroid hormone (PTH) peptide-loaded mesoporous silica nanoparticles (PTH@MSNs) was embedded, evolving into a porous PTH@MSNs/GelMA/SFMA/PCL (PM@GS/PCL) scaffold. The feasibility of fabricating this functional scaffold with a customised hierarchical structure was confirmed through meticulous chemical and physical characterisation. Compression testing unveiled an impressive modulus of 17.81 ± 0.83 MPa for the composite scaffold. Additionally, in vitro angiogenesis potential of PM@GS/ PCL scaffold was evaluated through Transwell and tube formation assays using human umbilical vein endothelium, revealing the superior cell migration and tube network formation. The alizarin red and alkaline phosphatase staining assays using bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells clearly illustrated robust osteogenic differentiation properties within this scaffold. Furthermore, the bone repair potential of the scaffold was investigated on a rat femoral defect model using micro-computed tomography and histological examination, demonstrating enhanced osteogenic and angiogenic performance. This study presents a promising strategy for fabricating a microenvironment-matched composite scaffold for bone tissue engineering, providing a potential solution for effective bone defect repair. © 2024, Chinese Medical Multimedia Press Co Ltd. Inflammation and angiogenesis, the maj.r pathological changes of osteoarthritis (OA), are closely associated with j.int pain; however, pertinent signalling interactions within subchondral bone of osteoarthritic j.ints and potential contribution to the peripheral origin of OA pain remain to be elucidated. Herein we developed a unilateral anterior crossbite mouse model with osteoarthritic changes in the temporomandibular j.int. Microarray-based transcriptome analysis, besides quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, was performed to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Overall, 182 DEGs (fold change ≥ 2, P j.cting significant DEGs to enrichment analyses, inflammation and angiogenesis were identified as the most affected. Inflammation-related DEGs were mainly enriched in T cell activation and differentiation and in the mammalian target of rapamycin/nuclear factor-κB/tumour necrosis factor signalling. Furthermore, angiogenesis-related DEGs were mainly enriched in the Gene Ontology terms angiogenesis regulation and vasculature development and in the kEGG pathways of phosphoinositide 3-kinase-protein kinase B/vascular endothelial growth factor/hypoxia-inducible factor 1 signalling. Protein– protein interaction analysis revealed a close interaction between inflammation-and angiogenesis-related DEGs, suggesting that phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphate 3-kinase catalytic subunit delta (Pi3kcd), cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide (Camp), C-X-C motif chemokine receptor 4 (Cxcr4), and MYB proto-oncogene transcription factor (Myb) play a central role in their interaction. Obj.ctive: Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) is a rare autosomal recessive dermatosis caused by genetic defects of DNA repair. This study was performed to detect and analyze the genes of 2 Uygur patients with XP and their families and assess the patients' phenotypes, which may enrich the understanding of the genetic skin disorder spectrum in Xinj.ang area. Methods: We collected the clinical data from 2 patients with XP and peripheral blood samples from the patients and their family members. The patients' DNA was sequenced and detected by Sanger sequencing, and gene mutations were screened. Results: The proband in family 1 presented with brown maculae at the exposure site and squamous cell carcinoma secondary to a facial rash. The proband had a homozygous nucleotide variation of XPC c.2251-2A> G (A change from A to G in the penultimate position of the intron before the 2251 position in the coding region), which was a shear mutation. In this family, both parents were heterozygous, and no similar mutation detected in the sister. In family 2, the proband had scattered black brown spots and papules on the trunk and limbs. and his younger sister was also a patient. The proband and his younger sister had homonucleotide variation of XPA c.631C> T, which was nonsense mutation, resulting in the codon for Arg No.211 being changed into termination codon (***211X), thus terminating the peptide chain synthesis prematurely. All the normal individuals in the two families were heterozygotes, and homozygous mutations occurred in all the patients, which was consistent with the autosomal recessive inheritance. Conclusion: XP is rare in Uygur population. Wind power potential over northern South America using ERA5-Land global reanalysis

The northernmost region of South America has great potential for wind energy production and is a strategic area for the energy transition. We analysed data from ERA5-Land global reanalysis from 1980 to 2020 to determine the wind power potential in this area. Our aim was to identify areas with a high potential for wind energy that could be used to supply energy in case of drought in the region or increases in fuel prices. We compared data from 19 meteorological stations located in Colombia with ERA5-Land reanalysis data to generate reliable information for the feasibility and operation of wind farms. According to our analysis, the Colombian Caribbean and Coastal Plain have monthly average wind speeds at 90 m ranging from 4.85 to 10.34 m/s and 3.79 to 6.62 m/s, respectively. Based on wind power density calculations, these regions have the highest wind power density in our study, with a monthly average of between 250 and 399 W/m2. The Caribbean Region had a 69% increase in wind power density from j.nuary to j.ly compared with the annual average. The wind power density in the plains increased from j.nuary to March, while the Mountain Region had higher anomalies from May to October. The Alta Guaj.ra and Paraguana Peninsula have great potential to generate wind energy due to their privileged geographical location. Although ERA5 offers valuable information about wind availability in time and space, it cannot represent the influence of local effects on wind patterns for the Mountain Region. Data from ERA5-Land global reanalysis (1980-2020) are used to determine the wind power potential in the northernmost region of South America to identify areas with a high potential for wind energy, which could be used to supply energy in case of drought or increases in fuel prices. In this paper,we analyzed the physical characteristics of the ternary alloys RE_(2)Rh_(3)Ge(RE=Pr and Sm)using the first principles calculation based on functional density theory integrated in the Wien2k *** calculated formation energies of Pr_(2)Rh_(3)Ge and Sm_(2)Rh_(3)Ge are−5.3827 and−5.2782 eV/atom,respectively,showing that these alloys may exist *** results of the band structure and density of states indicate that all of the compounds tested are magnetic metals,and their magnetism is mostly related to the contribution of Pr and Sm *** total magnetic moments of Pr_(2)Rh_(3)Ge and Sm_(2)Rh_(3)Ge are 4.07245 and 11.16161μB/f.u,*** parameters such as heat capacity at constant pressure,entropy,Debye temperature,lattice volume,compressibility coefficients,and Grüneisen parameter alloys were calculated using the Gibbs algorithm and studied in depth over a large temperature range of 0-900 *** Debye temperature increases with increasing pressure and decreases with decreasing ***,the Debye temperatures calculated at p=0 GPa and T=300 k are equal to be 342 and 322 k for Pr_(2)Rh_(3)Ge and Sm_(2)Rh_(3)Ge,*** optical characteristics such as the real and imaginary portions of the dielectric function,the absorption coefficient,the energy-loss function,and the refractive index were investigated and discussed in more depth.

In this paper, a combination of model based adaptive design along with adaptive linear output feedback controller is used to compensate for robotic manipulator with output deadzone nonlinearity. The deadzone dynamics are utilized to adaptively estimate the deadzone parameter and a switching function is designed to eliminate the error produced in the adaptive observer dynamics. The overall design of the closed loop system ensures stability in the BIBO criterion.

Reconstruction of bone defects or fractures caused by ageing, trauma and tumour resection is still a great challenge in clinical treatment. Although autologous bone graft is considered as gold standard, the source of natural bone is limited. In recent years, regenerative therapy based on bioactive materials has been proposed for bone reconstruction. Specially, numerous studies have indicated that bioactive ceramics including silicate and phosphate bioceramics exhibit excellent osteoinductivity and osteoconductivity, further promote bone regeneration. In addition, magnesium (Mg) element, as an indispensable mineral element, plays a vital role in promoting bone mineralisation and formation. In this review, different types of Mg-containing bioceramics including Mg-containing calcium phosphate-based bioceramics (such as Mg-hydroxyapatite, Mg-biphasic calcium phosphate), Mg-containing calcium silicate-based bioceramics (such as Mg2SiO4, Ca2MgSi2O7and Mg-doped bioglass), Mg-based biocements, Mg-containing metal/polymer-bioceramic composites were systematacially summarised. Additionally, the fabrication technologies and their materiobiological effects were deeply discussed, Clinical applications and perspectives of magnesium-containing bioceramics for bone repair are highlighted. Overall, Mg-containing bioceramics are regarded as regenerative therapy with their optimised performance. Furthermore, more in-depth two-way researches on their performance and structure are essential to satisfy their clinical needs. © 2024, Chinese Medical Multimedia Press Co Ltd. All rights reserved.
