This work presents the delamination resistance of woven glass fibre reinforced polymers (GFRP) and its influence on GFRP’s resistance to point impact. Two different types of laminates were fabricated by hand lay-up technique;(i) woven glass fibre epoxy matrix laminates and (ii) woven glass fibre epoxy matrix laminates with 3% graphite particulate fillers. End Notch Flexure (ENF) test was adopted for the measurement of delamination resistance. The two GFRPs laminates show similar mode II delamination resistance. At impact velocities between 2.215 and 4.429 m/sec, the GFRP developed a smaller damage size than the graphite-based GFRP laminates, indicating higher impact toughness. Difference of the impact resistance between the two GFRPs is mainly on the impact damage size developed. The total energy absorbed during the impact remains the same, which is independent of mode II delamination resistance of the GFRP. The history of relevant dynamic and energetic quantities, both to synthesize the dependency of the energy parameters and force threshold values on the impact velocity are discussed.

A Rapid Assessment of Scleractinian and Non-Scleractinian Coral Growth Forms Along the Saudi Arabian Coast, Red Sea

In this study we assessed the current status of coral reefs along the Saudi Arabian coast of the Red Sea. Among the three growth forms of Acroporid corals, the branching forms were found to dominate in the Farassan Islands （44.55%±11.10% cover） fol-lowed by tabular forms in the Doga Islands （ranging between 18%±6.47% and 18.30%±9.47% cover）. Digitate forms were rarely found along the coast except at Maqna. Among the five growth forms of non-Acroporid corals, we observed maximum cover of branching forms in the Yanbu offshore area （58.89%±15.11% cover） followed by the j.ddah coast （24.76%±14.04% cover）. The Millepora spp., a non-Scleractinian coral, was abundant at all the near-shore sites, such as j.ddah （10.70%±8.21%） and A1-Waj. （9.81%±6.69%）. The live coral cover （including both Scleractinian and non-Scleractinian corals） of Saudi Red Sea coast was seen to be higher in the north and gradually decrease towards the south. Principal Component analysis showed that the contribution of Acro- porid corals was greater in the southern region than in the northem and middle regions, but vice-versa in the case of non-Acroporid corals. Bray-Curtis cluster analysis categorized all the study sites into two maj.r clusters with 60% similarity. Among them, one cluster-forming sites from Maqna to Masturah （Northem region） and the second one comprised the middle and southem regions （j.ddah to Farassan Islands）, and one outlier Rabigh.

We herein describe an associated partial postcranial skeleton of a theropod dinosaur discovered in the Lower Cretaceous Xinminpu Group of the Yuj.ngzi Basin, in the j.uquan area of Gausu Province, northwestern China. Features of its humerus, such as strongly expanded proximal and distal ends, a well developed medial tuberosity, distal condyles expressed on the humeral cranial surface, and a hypertrophied entepicondyle, definitively establish the therizinosauroid affinities of the specimen. It differs from other therizinosauroids in having a shallow, poorly demarcated glenoid fossa with a prominent rounded and striated tumescence on the dorsomedial surface of its scapular portion, and a pubis with a strongly concave cranial margin. It represents a new taxon, Suzhousaurus megatherioides gen. et sp. nov. Cladistic analysis recovers Suzhousaurus as the sister taxon of Nothronychus mckinleyi from the mid-Cretaceous of western North America; together, they are basal members of the Therizinosauroidea, more derived than the Early Cretaceous Falcarius and Beipiaosaurus but less derived than Alxasaurus and the Therizinosauridae. Along with ＂Nanshiungosaurus＂ bohlini from possibly coeval beds in the Mazongshan area of northern-most Gansu, Suzhousaurus represents one of the largest-known Early Cretaceous therizinosauroids, demonstrating that this clade attained considerable body size early in its evolutionary history.

Antifouling Effect of Bioactive Compounds from Selected Marine Organisms in the Obhur Creek,Red Sea

Three species of sponges and a tunicate were collected from Obhur creek of j.ddah coast for this bioactivity study. In order to assess the antifouling efficacy of selected marine organisms, methanolic extracts of these organisms were tested against different fouling bacterial forms and II-instar stage of the barnacle, Balanus amphitrite. Antibiosis, bioactivity and followed by multivariate analyses were carried out to check the efficacy of antifouling effect of the selected marine organisms. Principal component analysis revealed the exemplary antifouling efficacy of the sponge extracts of Stylissa sp. observed followed by Hyrtios sp. against bacterial forms in the laboratory study. De-trended correspondence analysis confirmed that the contribution of antifouling efficacy of the selected sponge extracts was observed to be more towards Bacillus sp., Vibrio sp. and Alteromonas sp. Moreover, the efficacy of Hyrtios sp. extract(20.430 μg m L^(-1)) followed by Stylissa sp.(30.945 μg m L^(-1)) showed higher against barnacle instar compared with other extracts in the bioactivity assay. Bray-Curtis cluster analysis under paired linkage categorized all the sponge extracts into one maj.r cluster with 75% similarity, and one outlier tunicate. More than 80% similarity observed between Hyrtios sp. and Stylissa sp. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR) showed that the contribution of maj.r peaks found in the marine organisms were towards sulfones, sulfoxides, cyanates and ketones.

本文将妊娠11天大鼠胚胎脑皮质组织移植到成年大鼠支配股二头肌的溃变神经外膜内,对移植的神经组织生存、分化、成熟的形态变化进行了超微结构研究。移植后7天,移植块由神经上皮细胞团所组成。细胞电子密度较高。细胞团周边由基膜复盖。14~21天,移植块细胞开始分散。核分化并趋向成熟,胞质内粗面内质网开始集聚,神经毯出现,胶质细胞开始成熟。30天,有成熟的神经细胞。核质电子密度低,核仁明显,粗面内质网多行排列,胶质细胞成熟。45天,神经元溃变,核质凝聚或溶解,粗面内质网消失,胶质细胞依然存在。60~120天,移植部仅余胶质细胞和一些雪旺氏细胞。实验结果说明胚胎脑皮质在溃变周围神经中至少在移植后一个月内已能分化、成熟和形成一个移位性的神经组织。同时还表明移植块的生存和移植部位神经组织结构有密切关系。本实验模型对于观察胚胎中枢神经系统移植块生长、分化、成熟等方面,具有一定的优点。
