Background:Ablation is an alternative treatment modality f.r selected patients with colorectal liver metastases(CRLMs).Although initially widely perf.rmed via radiof.equency ablation(Rf.),more recently,microwave ablation(MWA)is being pref.rred due to its perceived superiority in creating the ablation *** aim of.this study is to compare the long-term ef.icacy of.these two modalities perf.rmed ***:Patients undergoing surgical liver ablation f.om 2005-2023 at a tertiary center by a single surgeon f.r CRLM were included in a retrospective institutional review board-approved *** were compared using Wilcoxon,Chi-square,Kaplan-Meier,and Cox multivariate regression *** data are presented as median(interquartile range).Results:There were a total of.242 *** Rf. was done in 121 patients with 303 lesions and laparoscopic MWA in 121 patients with 300 *** was no dif.erence between the groups regarding operative time(161 vs.147 minutes,respectively,P=0.4),perioperative morbidity(3%vs.8%,respectively,P=0.2)or hospital stay(1 vs.1 day,P=0.05).Local recurrence(LR)per lesion with at least 1 year of.imaging f.llow-up was 29%in the Rf. and 13%in the MWA group(Pf.*** control these variables,direct matching was *** cohort included 189 ***-Meier analysis of.these cohorts showed increased LR-f.ee survival in the MWA group *** Rf. group(P=0.005).Conclusions:This large study conf.rms our initial observation that local tumor control rate is better af.er MWA ***.

Background: Bithermal caloric irrigation, video head impulse test(vHIT), and rotational testing are commonly used to assess peripheral vestibular f.nction, but the relative clinical utility of.each test in dif.erentiating patients with peripheral vestibulopathy is ***: To determine whether(1) the combination of.two or more vestibular tests enhances diagnostic utility over a single test;(2) abnormal test results on vestibular tests correlate with one ***: Retrospective analysis of.data collected f.om multidisciplinary vestibular clinics at two academic medical centers f.om 2016 to ***: 150 patients(54.10 ± 15.09 years, 88 f.males) were included. No individual test was signif.cantly better at predicting the presence of.peripheral vestibular damage(p > 0.05). vHIT test results improved signif.cantly when combined with either the caloric test(p = 0.007) or rotary chair test(p = 0.039). Caloric and rotational testing had high sensitivity(74.65% and 76.06%, respectively) and specif.city(83.54% and 78.48%, respectively). vHIT demonstrated excellent specif.city(89.87%) but poor sensitivity(47.89%). Caloric, vHIT, and rotary chair tests results did not correlate with one another(p > 0.05).Conclusions: Vestibular f.nction tests have comparable diagnostic utility, yet each of.ers unique advantages. Caloric and rotational testing may be best suited f.r screening peripheral damage and vHIT may f.nction ideally as a conf.rmatory test.

We have recently proposed a new technique of.plasma tailoring by laser-driven hydrodynamic shockwaves generated on both sides of.a gas j.t[Marquès et al.,*** 28,023103(2021)].In a continuation of.this numerical work,we study experimentally the inf.uence of.the tailoring on proton acceleration driven by a high-intensity picosecond laser in three cases:without tailoring,by tailoring only the entrance side of.the picosecond laser,and by tailoring both sides of.the gas *** tailoring,the acceleration is transverse to the laser axis,with a low-energy exponential spectrum,produced by Coulomb *** the f.ont side of.the gas j.t is tailored,a f.rward acceleration appears,which is signif.cantly enhanced when both the f.ont and back sides of.the plasma are *** f.rward acceleration produces higher-energy protons,with a peaked spectrum,and is in good agreement with the mechanism of.collisionless shock acceleration(CSA).The spatiotemporal evolution of.the plasma prof.le is characterized by optical shadowgraphy of.a probe *** ref.action and absorption of.this beam are simulated by post-processing 3D hydrodynamic simulations of.the plasma *** with the experimental results allows estimation of.the thickness and near-critical density of.the plasma slab produced by tailoring both sides of.the gas *** parameters are in good agreement with those required f.r CSA.

BACKGROUND The sphericity of.the f.moral head is a metric used to evaluate hip pathologies and is associated with the development of.osteoarthritis and f.moral-acetabular *** To analyze the three-dimensional asphericity of.the f.moral head of.asymptomatic pediatric *** hypothesized that f.moral head asphericity will vary signif.cantly between male and f.male pediatric hips and increase with age in both *** Computed tomography scans were obtained on 158 children and adolescents f.om a single institution in the United States(8-18 years;50%male)without hip *** f.moral measurements including the f.moral head diameter,f.moral head volume,residual volume,asphericity index,and local diameter dif.erence were used to evaluate f.moral head *** In both sexes,the residual volume increased by age(Pf.cantly smaller f.moral head size in older ages(>13 years)in f.males,there were no sex-dif.erences in residual volume and aspherity *** were no age-related changes in mean diameter dif.erence in both sexes(P=0.07)with no signif.cant sex-dif.erences across dif.erent age groups(P=0.06).In contrast,there were signif.cant increases in local aspherity(maximum diameter dif.erence)across whole surf.ce of.the f.moral head and all quadrants except the inf.rior regions in males(P=0.03).There were no sex-dif.erences in maximum diameter dif.erence at any regions and age group(P>0.05).Increased alpha angle was only correlated to increased mean diameter dif.erence across overall surf.ce of.the f.moral head(P=0.024).CONCLUSION There is a substantial localized asphericity in asymptomatic hips which increases with age *** 2D measured alpha angle can capture overall asphericity of.the f.moral head,it may not be sensitive enough to represent regional asphericity patterns.

The short-term inf.uence of.dung deposition and the f.rther redistribution of.dung by dung beetles were studied under a resting place of.the red howler monkey （Alouatta seniculus） living in tropical ralnf.rests of.South America. Monkey dung was experimentally clumped on the f.eld in a place used by troops of.howler monkeys f.r resting in the Nouragues Reserve Station, f.ench Guiana. Dung-treated plots were sampled serially over three weeks and compared with controls located in their immediate vicinity. The composition of.the soil matrix （top 10 cm） was studied in successive microlayers using an optical method. Under the inf.uence of.dung beetle activity, the topsoil became more homogeneous by losing its litter, its content in earthworm f.eces increased in the course of.time, and surf.ce mineral deposits were penetrated by roots. The results were interpreted in the light of.present knowledge on the ef.ects of.soil animal activity on plant growth and survival of.seedlings.

Clinical bone-morphogenetic protein 2(BMP2)treatment f.r bone regeneration,of.en resulting in complications like sof. tissue inf.ammation and ectopic ossif.cation due to high dosages and non-specif.c delivery systems,necessitates research into improved biomaterials f.r better BMP2 stability and *** tackle this challenge,we introduced a groundbreaking bone-targeted,lipoplex-loaded,three-dimensional bioprinted bilayer scaf.old,termed the polycaprolactone-bioink-nanoparticle(PBN)scaf.old,aimed at boosting bone *** encapsulated BMP2 within the f.broin nanoparticle based lipoplex(f.broplex)and f.nctionalized it with DSS6 f.r bone tissue-specif.c targeting.3D printing technology enables customized,porous PCL scaf.olds f.r bone healing and sof. tissue growth,with a two-step bioprinting process creating a cellular lattice structure and a bioink grid using gelatin-alginate hydrogel and DSS6-f.broplex,shown to support ef.ective nutrient exchange and cell growth at specif.c pore *** PBN scaf.old is predicted through in silico analysis to exhibit biased BMP2 release between bone and sof. tissue,a f.nding validated by in vitro osteogenic dif.erentiation *** PBN scaf.old was evaluated f.r critical calvarial def.cts,f.cusing on sustained BMP2 delivery,prevention of.sof. tissue cell inf.ltration and controlled f.ber membrane pore size in *** PBN scaf.old demonstrated a more than eight times longer BMP2 release time than that of.the collagen sponge,promoting osteogenic dif.erentiation and bone regeneration in a calvarial def.ct *** f.ndings suggest that the PBN scaf.old enhanced the local concentration of.BMP2 in bone def.cts through sustained release and improved the spatial arrangement of.bone f.rmation,thereby reducing the risk of.heterotopic ossif.cation.
