A novel method for objectively, rapidly and accurately evaluating burn depth via near infrared spectroscopy

Many real-world signal processing applications require an enormous amount of computational power. When these applications are deployed in on-line settings, many hurdles including stringent timing constraints must be overcome. Additionally, the number of channels feeding mathematical DSP routines is growing rapidly, easily reaching 1,000 to 100,000 channels. These applications have increasingly demanding performance requirements for generating control outputs which interact with real-world processes, where 1ms loop times are not uncommon. In this paper, we describe a graphical dataflow approach capable of yielding the necessary computational power and meeting aggressive timing constraints. We combine this methodology with strategies for targeting a combination of processors including CPUs, FPGAs, and GPUs deployed on standard PCs, workstations, and real-time systems. We demonstrate this approach through case studies on adaptive mirror control for an extremely large telescope and plasma measurement via soft X-ray tomography.

The accurate and objective evaluation of burn depth is a significant challenge in burn wound ***,we used near infrared spectroscopy(NIRS)technology to measure the different depth of thermal burns in ex vivo porcine *** on the intensity of the spectral signals and the diffuse reflection theory,we extracted the optical parameters involved in functional(total hemoglobin andwater content)and structural(tissue scattered size and scattered particles)features that reflect the changes in burn ***,we applied support vector regression to construct a model including the optical property parameters and the burn ***,we histologically verified the burn depth data collected via *** results showed that our inversion model could achieve an average relative error of about 7.63%,while the NIRS technology diagnostic accuracy was in the range of 50μ*** the first time,this novel technique provides physicians with real-time burn depth information objectively and accurately.

Novel Nd^(3+)/Yb^(3+)co-doped sodium calcium silicate glasses were prepared by melting quenching method:Spectroscopic study was carried out as a function of doping content by fixing sensitizer(Nd^(3+))concentration to 0.2 mol%and adjusting activator(Yb^(3+))from 0 to 1.0 mol%.The energy transfer(ET)mechanisms between Nd^(3+)and Yb^(3+)are discussed based on their energy levels and excitation powerdependence emission *** show that the presence of Yb^(2+)might be considered for the Nd^(3+)-free and co-doped *** ET was confirmed by the down-conversion NIR emission spectra of the doped and co-doped samples under excitation at 808 *** mechanisms observed seem to involve only one VIS absorbed photon for each NIR emitted via direct energy transfer between^(4)F_(3/2)of Nd^(2+)and^(2)F_(5/2)of Yb^(3+)compensated by phonon assistance due to energy gap between these *** efficiency of ET increases with the ytterbium content up to almost 90%for the sample with 1 mol%of Yb2O3,which was evaluated by lifetime ***-conversion photoluminescence by exciting trivalent ions of neodymium(808 nm)and ytterbium(975 nm)is *** observed up-converted emission bands are related to the 4f-4f transitions of Nd^(3+)and the spin-forbidden 5d-4f transition of Yb^(2+).Nd^(3+)upconversion emission is observed under 975 nm excitation,presenting an almost quadratic emission dependence with power excitation,which suggests that two laser photons participate in the up-conversion(UC)process,showing that ET occurs by a phonon-assisted energy transfer and cooperative energy transfer.

The response of three-dimensional sample of Al, containing vacancy complex, under shear loading was simulated. The molecular dynamics method was used and interaction between atoms was described on the base of pseudopotential theory Solitary waves were generated in the sample under mechanical loading. Their interaction with the vacancy complexes was shown to be able to initiate hot spot in that local region of the complexes. Some parameters of the hot spot as well as solitary waves were calculated. The initiation of the hot spot is accompanied with sufficient local structural relaxation.

The problem of model selection for support vector machines using the RBF kernels is considered. We introduce a geometric view on maximizing kernel polarization, which intuitively shows why we choose kernel polarization as the criterion for kernel selection. After that we propose a gradient-based method for learning the width parameter of RBF kernels. This method is based on the possibility of computing the gradient of kernel polarization with respect to the width parameter. The proposed method is demonstrated with some UCI machine learning benchmark examples.

Allergic asthma caused by mushroom spores (Pleurotus sapidus besidiospores) is a common health problem among mushroom-cultivating workers in China. An animal model of allergic asthma through the challenge of Pleurotus sapidus besidiospores in primed rats was developed for investigating the role of cytokines in the pathogenesis of the disease. In the study a series of related cytokines and their receptors, including their activity and mRNA levels of spleen lymphocytes isolated from asthmatic rats, were measured. Determined by 3H-TdR incorporation assay and NAG microcolorimetric assay, Con A-induced spleen lymphocyte proliferation and IL-2 activity in culture supernatants of spleen lymphocytes from 7-day challengedrats with allergic asthma increased significantly by 261% and 208%, respectively, as compared with those in the control. Cytokines and their receptor expression at mRNA levels were determined by RNA/cDNA hybridization, using (α-32P-dCTP radiolabeled cDNA probes for different cytokines and their receptors in vitro. The results showed that mRNA expression of IL-4, GM-CSF, IL-6, IL-2 and IL-2R, except IL-6R, in lymphocytes of 7-day-challenged asthma-suffering rats, increased significantly by 54%, 45%, 170%, 83% and 76%, respectively. In 2-day challenged-rats, mRNA levels of IL-4, IL-6 and IL-2 increased by 37%,58% and 125%, respectively, whereas mRNA leve1s of GM-CSF, IL-2R and IL-6R remained unchanged. Thus, the experimental results suggested a significant increase in TH2type cytokines in the pathogenesis of Pleurotus sapidus besidiospore-induced allergic asthma and IL-4 may play an essential role.

Introduction: To evaluate the clinical effectiveness of Gla-300 units/mL (Gla-300) in the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) uncontrolled by basal insulin in real-life clinical settings in the Czech Republic (TOPAZ study). Methods: TOPAZ was a prospective, multi-center, non-interventional, 6-month study. Of the 312 patients screened, 289 were evaluated at month 6. The primary objective was the change of HbA1c after 6 months. The proportion of patients with HbA1c Results: HbA1c decreased significantly after 6 months (mean change 0.9% ± 1.1% DCCT [−9.9 ± 11.6 mmol/mol], p −1.8 ± 3.1 mmol/L) as well as the incidence of hypoglycemia decreased by 49% (p 0.0001) while no weight gain was observed. No significant safety signals were identified.
