The representation of the Dirac delta, obtained by differentiating the parametric equation of the unit step with a riser, is used to solve two examples referring to problems of a different physical nature, each with the product of two deltas as a forcing function. Each problem was solved by an entirely different procedure. In comparison with non-parametric solutions, the present solutions are both more accurate and truer representations of the physics involved.

Introduction: Pelvic floor muscle function of 30 overweight postmenopausal women prior to and after colporrhahpy was monitored in this study. Material and Methods: Patients diagnosed with cystokele or combined cystorectokele was involved. 1 mg oral estriol and local estriol cream were administered for 30 days preoperatively. Pelvic floor muscle function was monitored by surface electromyography 1 month before (1st) 1 day prior to surgery (2nd), and six weeks after the surgery (3rd measurement). Body composition parameters (intra- and extracellular water and body fat) were also measured. Results: The ability to relax significantly improved (p = 0.03) in the preoperative period (between 1st and 2nd occasions). Six weeks after surgery a non-significant (p = 0.054) decrease in average muscle activity was detected when compared with values obtained before the surgery. Muscle-activity declined significantly from the first to the last measurements (p = 0.005). Conclusion: Our results confirm that postmenopausal obese women who undergo anterior or posterior colporrhaphy need a follow-up concerning pelvic floor muscle function and suggest that physiotherapy started the earliest possible may aid in preserving postoperative functionality on the long run.

It is widely known that intestinal capacities such as the enzymatic hydrolysis of carbohydrates,lipids and proteins,and the subsequent absorption of the hydrolyzed *** evolutionary matched to dietary loads and feeding *** this study,we demonstrate that the protein expression of apically located sodium-dependent glucose cotransporter-1(SGLT-1)throughout rat ontogeny is daily adjusted to afford glucose uptake when the load of this metabolically essential monosaccharide in the intestinal lumen is *** jejunal expression of SGLT-1 protein in 14 one-day-old suckling pups was found to increase at dark and early light phase(Pjuvenile 28-d-old rats,the cotransporter expression was high throughout the entire day(P<0.05).Finally,adult 90-d-old rats showed a well-developed circadian rhythm for SGLT-1 protein(P<0.05).whose expression increased at late light and dark phase when the highest intestinal glucose load was *** our knowledge,these results are the first reporting the daily profile of SGLT-1 expression during rat early developmental stage and may contribute to understand the biological significance of a well-established molecular capacity to deal with the crucial increase of glucose load in the diet during the weaning process.

The Laplace transform is a very useful tool for the solution of problems involving an impulsive excitation, usually represented by the Dirac delta, but it does not work in nonlinear problems. In contrast with this, the parametric representation of the Dirac delta presented here works both in linear and nonlinear problems. Furthermore, the parametric representation converts the differential equation of a problem with an impulsive excitation into two equations: the first equation referring to the impulse instant (absent in the conventional solution) and the second equation referring to post-impulse time. The impulse instant equation contains fewer terms than the original equation and the impulse is represented by a constant, just as in the Laplace transform, the post-impulse equation is homogeneous. Thus, the solution of the parametric equations is considerably simpler than the solution of the original equation. The parametric solution, involving the equations of both the dependent and independent variables in terms of the parameter, is readily reconverted into the usual equation in terms of the dependent and independent variables only. This parametric representation may be taught at an earlier stage because the principle on which it is based is easily visualized geometrically and because it is only necessary to have a knowledge of elementary calculus to understand it and use it.

Once we have reviewed the various opinions of our colleagues in the Consensus Group on CMS, I am sure that we will improve our knowledge of this disease, which is increasing in importance world wide. In our country CMS is a major concern of public health authorities due to its prevalence in the relatively young and active male population. In addition to thanking all of you, I owe special thanks to Dr. Ge Ri-Li, to Dr. Peter Hackett and to *** Leon-Velarde for providing all of us with the opportunity to participate in this meeting of the Consensus Group with Dr. Dante Pealoza. Dr. Pealoza is truly a pioneer among Peruvian scientists in the understanding of Monge′s Disease. His thesis on CMS and the pulmonary circulation, published in 1969, is worth our consideration in the present debate, awakening the interest of us all, although some of us, like me, came to his work late. I thank Fabiola also, for all of her energy in organizing this meeting, and Professor jack Reeves, a pillar of our organization, whose breadth of knowledge, combined with the simplicity with which he relays his deep understanding of the subject, will guarantee that the summary of the consensus reached will be a comprehensive guide for all us. A C/Ni composite was prepared via thermal decomposition of a nickel oleate complex at 700℃,yielding disperse Ni nanocrystals with an average size of 20 nm,encapsulated by carbon nanosheets as deduced from transmission electron microscopy(TEM)images and confirmed from X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS).Furthermore,the X-ray diffraction pattern revealed a good ordering of the carbon layers,forced by the Ni encapsulation to adopt a bending *** the close interaction between the graphitized framework and the metallic nanoparticles we have studied the properties of the composite as an anode for Li-ion *** with other nanostructured synthetic carbons,this carbon composite has a low voltage hysteresis and a modest irreversible capacity value,properties that play a significant role in its behaviour as electrodes in full cell *** moderate rate values,0.25 C,the electrode delivers an average capacity value around 723 mAh·g^−1 on cycling,among the highest values so far reported for this carbon *** higher rate values,1 C,the average capacity values delivered by the cell on cycling decrease,around 205 mAh·g^−1,but it maintains good capacity retention,a coulombic efficiency close to 100%after the first cycles and recovery of the capacity values when the rate is restored from 3 to 0.1 C.

The strategies for thermal regulation and envir on mental control found in nature are countless. In this article, a parallelism between animals and building energy systems is defined in order to identjfy and emphasize the immediate opportunities that biomimicry offers for future research. The motivation was the need to find alternative solutions to tackle problems mainly in the efficiency of heating, ventilation and cooling systems. Due to the wide range of possibilities offered by animals, this study is largely limited to the strategies that cold-blooded animals have developed through evolutionary adaptation to the environment. The method used for the an a lysis is based on a soluti on-based approach. Firstly, differe nt animal thermoregulation strategies are defined (biological domain). Then the strategy is an a lyzed and classified into three categories. This classification is esse ntial in order to formulate the parallelism with building systems (transfer phase). The final step is to identify the potential implementation (technological domain).This approach has been seen to be useful in creating new research opportunities based on biomimicry. In addition, suitable solutions arising from multidisciplinary team research are presented as promising answers to the challenges that building energy systems face no wadays.
