Although different types of powder feedstock are used for additive manufacturing via laser powder bed fusion(L-PBF),limited work has attempted to directly compare the microstructure and mechanical behavior of components manufactured from those powder *** work investigated the microstructure,phase composition,melt pool morphology,and mechanical properties of a prealloyed Ti-35Nb alloy manufactured using L-PBF and compared these to their counterparts produced from elemental powder *** samples manufactured from the powder mixture are composed of randomly distributed undissolved Nb in theα/βmatrix,resulting from the unstable melt pool during the melting of the powder *** contrast,parts produced from prealloyed powder display a homogeneous microstructure withβandαphases,owing to the full melting of prealloyed powder,therefore,a more stable melt pool to achieve a homogeneous *** Ti-35Nb manufactured from prealloyed powder exhibits large tensile ductility(about 10 times that of the counterparts using mixed powder),attributed to the high homogeneity in microstructure and chemical composition,strong interface bonding,relatively low oxygen content,and the existence of a large amount ofβ*** work sheds insights into understanding the effect of powder feedstock on the melt pool stability therefore the microstructure and mechanical behavior of the resultant parts.

Fe_(81)Al_(19) polycrystalline alloys doped with Tb(0-0.25 at%) were obtained by arc *** introduction of Tb favors the formation of columnar grains in the micro structure of the alloys,which develops a texture in the [100]crystal *** examination shows that the alloys are composed in great proportion by the disordered body-centered cubic(bcc),A2 phase and by a small proportion of the ordered bcc,B2 *** a consequence of doping with Tb,the lattice parameter increases,so the calculated apparent crystallite size increases,indicating a decrease in dislocation density and therefore in *** change in the magnetostriction with the magnetic field,dλ_(T)/dH,is directly related to strain anisotropy that can favor the iron easy magnetization axis on the [100] *** increase in total magnetostriction is found in the doped alloys with a maximum of 90 × 10^(-6) at 300 K for the alloy containing 0.027 at% *** enhancement is a threefold value of the undoped alloy,which is attributed to the smaller maximum strain value and the preferential orientation formation by the columnar grains.

Touristic urbanization and greening of coastal dune fields:A long-term assessment of a temperate sandy barrier of Argentina

Dune barrier systems represent highly sought-after coastal landscapes for tourism and urban development around the world. However, a century ago, they were considered hazardous environments due to their great dynamic nature. As a result, stabilization practices were considered necessary. The systematic introduction of fast-growing exotic trees helped stabilize the sand, making it easier for tourism urbanization to take place, but also leading to erosion processes. This paper aims to assess long-term changes in vegetation cover over a large temperate barrier in Argentina. This complex region includes urban resorts, afforestation zones, and protected areas. A GIs-based geospatial analysis was conducted using a large satellite database(> 350 images), and the future evolution of the vegetation was modeled. The results revealed two primary spatiotemporal patterns associated with a gradual expansion of vegetation cover, accompanied by a concurrent reduction in sandy areas. In 1986, the dune area comprised 75% more surface than vegetation, whereas in 2021, it represented 60% less than vegetation. Furthermore, the 2050 scenario suggests a potential 40% reduction of dunes in certain areas. It is necessary to enhance management actions aimed at maintaining dune mobility and ensuring local and regional sediment balance. Long-term management strategies must focus on restoring native plant communities and controlling invasive species, and avoiding new dune fixation initiatives based on the introduction of exotic species.

NEcAB family of neuronal calcium-binding proteins in health and disease

The N-terminal EF-hand calcium-binding proteins 1–3(NEcAB1–3) constitute a family of predominantly neuronal proteins characterized by the presence of at least one EF-hand calcium-binding domain and a functionally less well characterized c-terminal antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain. All three family members were initially discovered due to their interactions with other proteins. NEcAB1 associates with synaptotagmin-1, a critical neuronal protein involved in membrane trafficking and synaptic vesicle exocytosis. NEcAB2 interacts with predominantly striatal G-protein-coupled receptors, while NEcAB3 partners with amyloid-β A4 precursor protein-binding family A members 2 and 3, key regulators of amyloid-β production. This demonstrates the capacity of the family for interactions with various classes of proteins. NEcAB proteins exhibit distinct subcellular localizations: NEcAB1 is found in the nucleus and cytosol, NEcAB2 resides in endosomes and the plasma membrane, and NEcAB3 is present in the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus. The antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain, an evolutionarily ancient component, is akin to atypical heme oxygenases in prokaryotes but is not wellcharacterized in vertebrates. Prokaryotic antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domains typically form dimers, suggesting that calcium-mediated conformational changes in NEcAB proteins may induce antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain dimerization, potentially activating some enzymatic properties. However, the substrate for this enzymatic activity remains uncertain. Alternatively, calcium-mediated conformational changes might influence protein interactions or the subcellular localization of NEcAB proteins by controlling the availability of protein–protein interaction domains situated between the EF hands and the antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain. Ductile iron （DI） is a preferred material for use in various structural, automotive, and engineering fields because of its excellent combination of strength, toughness, and ductility. In the current investigation, we elucidate the relationship between the morphological and mechanical properties of DI intended for use in safety applications in the nuclear industry. DI specimens with various alloying elements were subjected to annealing and austempering heat treatment processes. A faster cooling rate appeared to increase the nodule count in austempered specimens, compensating for their nodularity value and subsequently decreasing their ductility and impact strength. The ductility and impact energy values of annealed specimens increased with increasing ferrite area fraction and nodularity, whereas an increase in the amounts of Ni and cr resulted in an increase of hardness via solid solution strengthening. Austempered specimens were observed to be stronger than an- nealed specimens and failed in a somewhat brittle manner characterized by a river pattern, whereas the ductile failure mode was character- ized by the presence of dimples.

Effect of Laser Welding on Properties of Dissimilar joint of Al-Mg-si and Al-Mn Aluminum Alloys

This study discusses the welding properties for the components of an aluminum-alloy ultra-high vacuum chamber and beam position monitor （BPM）.The welding parameters include the modes of laser output （pulsed wave and continuous wave）,welding speed,shield gas flow,welding bead structure,and focusing *** results showed that the welding defect rate of the pulsed wave type was larger than that of the continuous wave *** crack in the welding bead reduced with decreasing welding *** fusion penetration of the welding bead was higher when the focusing distance was long enough to deepen into the welding *** morphology during the experimental process revealed the proper flow of shield *** adaptability design of the welding bead structure in the preceding processes had more effect on overall welding structure and morphology.

Hepatocellular carcinoma(Hcc) is an aggressive tumor that often occurs in the setting of chronic liver *** patients do not initially manifest any symptoms of Hcc and present late when cure with surgical resection or transplantation is no longer *** this reason,patients at high risk for developing Hcc are subjected to frequent screening *** surgical management of Hcc is complex and requires an inter-disciplinary *** resection is the treatment of choice for Hcc in patients without cirrhosis and is indicated in some patients with early cirrhosis(child-Pugh A).Liver transplantation has emerged in the past decade as the standard of care for patients with cirrhosis and Hcc meeting Milan criteria and in select patients with Hcc beyond Milan ***-regional therapy with transarterial chemoembolization,transarterial embolization,radiofrequency ablation and other similar local treatments can be used as neo-adjuvant therapy to downstage Hcc to within Milan criteria or as a bridge to transplantation in patients on transplant wait list.

Transportation agencies spend millions of dollars annually to repair civil transportation infrastructure including pavements,earth structures and approach slabs distressed by soft compressible soils and expansive *** research studies performed at the University of Texas at Arlington(UTA) focused on stabilizing these problematic soils so that they will provide better and more stable support to the transportation *** paper focuses on a summary of two major distresses and mechanisms,and remedial measures for addressing these distress problems.A combined lime-cement stabilization method is fully evaluated in providing better support of pavement infrastructure,and these results are described *** major transportation infrastructure problem involving bridge approach slabs requires different treatment methods,and these results are briefly *** a part of the recently completed research study assessments,both shallow and deep soil treatment methods for stabilizing soils are fully evaluated for their effectiveness in arresting the distress posed to the pavements and bridge approach *** results along with a few future research needs are presented in this paper.

The effect of age-hardening on microstructure,hardness,and corrosion of an Al-5at.%V alloy,produced us-ing high-energy ball milling and subsequent cold compaction,has been *** alloy exhibited a grain size below 100 nm and extremely high solid solubility of V in Al(3.1 at.%).The age-hardening was carried out at 150,200,and 250℃.The peak-aged condition of 150℃ demonstrated the highest hardness-transpired from grain refinement,precipitation,and solid solution *** corrosion re-sistance of the Al-5at.%V alloy was studied as a function of aging *** peak-aged condition retained the corrosion resistance while it deteriorated in the over-aged ***,the cor-rosion resistance of the ball-milled Al alloys in all the aging conditions was superior to that of pure *** passive film structure and origin of corrosion were studied using scanning/transmission electron mi-croscopy(s/TEM).The high corrosion resistance of the alloy was attributed to the V enrichment at the film/metal interface and deposition of V on the cathodic phases,which suppresses the dissolution of Al within the pit and therefore promotes repassivation in the early stages of corrosion.
