Objective The placebo response in depression studies is the change in symptoms amongst those who receive an inactive *** well-designed randomized controlled trials(RCTs)of depression have a high proportion of placebo responders,with little understanding as to *** present study assesses characteristics associated with the placebo response in a nutraceutical trial with a large proportion of placebo *** This is a secondary analysis of a nutraceutical depression RCT which identified no overall treatment benefit relative to placebo(n=69 in placebo group).We investigated participant characteristics such as socio-demographics,clinical features,and recruitment methods,and their association with the placebo *** genetic polymorphisms were also *** response was measured based on change in Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale *** association of these hypothesis-driven variables of interest and the placebo response was examined using linear mixed effects *** Greater levels of education,particularly pursuing post-high school education,better self-reported general health,marriage/de facto,greater improvement in the first trial week,and more failed antidepressant therapies in the current depressive episode were associated with greater placebo *** increased placebo response was not found in those recruited via social media nor in those with concomitant antidepressant *** nucleotide polymorphisms from the tryptophan hydroxylase 1(TPH1)gene(A779C and A218C)were weakly associated with greater placebo response,although the evidence was attenuated after accounting for multiple *** This is,to our knowledge,the first study within nutraceutical research for depression to assess the association between participant characteristics and variation in the placebo *** variables appeared to predict the placebo *** findings may encourage future trial design

BACKGROUND There is concern regarding potential long-term cardiotoxicity with systemic distribution of metals in total joint arthroplasty(TjA)*** To determine the association of commonly used implant metals with echocardiographic measures in TjA *** The study comprised 110 TjA patients who had a recent history of high chromium,cobalt or titanium *** underwent two-dimensional,three-dimensional,Doppler and speckle-strain transthoracic echocardiography and a blood draw to measure metal *** and sex-adjusted linear and logistic regression models were used to examine the association of metal concentrations(exposure)with echocardiographic measures(outcome).RESULTS Higher cobalt concentrations were associated with increased left ventricular end-diastolic volume(estimate 5.09;95%CI:0.02-10.17)as well as left atrial and right ventricular dilation,particularly in men but no changes in cardiac *** titanium concentrations were associated with a reduction in left ventricle global longitudinal strain(estimate 0.38;95%CI:0.70 to 0.06)and cardiac index(estimate 0.08;95%CI,-0.15 to-0.01).CONCLUSION Elevated cobalt and titanium concentrations may be associated with structural and functional cardiac changes in some *** studies are warranted to better understand the systemic effects of metals in TjA patients.

Background:Genomic selection has the potential to accelerate genetic gain in perennial ryegrass breeding,provided complex traits such as forage yield can be predicted with sufficient ***:In this study,we compared modelling approaches and feature selection strategies to evaluate the accuracy of genomic prediction models for seasonal forage yield ***:Overall,model selection had limited impact on predictive ability when using the full data *** a baseline genomic best linear unbiased prediction model,the highest mean predictive accuracy was obtained for spring grazing(0.78),summer grazing(0.62)and second cut silage(0.56).In terms of feature selection strategies,using uncorrelated single-nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)had no impact on predictive ability,allowing for a potential decrease of the data set *** a genome-wide association study,we found a significant SNP marker for spring grazing,located in the genic region annotated as coding for an enzyme responsible for fucosylation of xyloglucans—major components of the plant cell *** also presented an approach to increase interpretability of genomic prediction models with the use of Gene Ontology enrichment ***:Approaches for feature selection will be relevant in development of low-cost genotyping platforms in support of routine and cost-effective implementation of genomic selection.

Infant formula is usually produced in an agglomerated powder form. These agglomerates are subjected to many transient forces following their manufacture. These can be difficult to quantify experimentally because of their small magnitudes and short durations, Numerical models have the potential to address this gap in the experimental data. The objective of the research described here was to calibrate a discrete element model for these agglomerates using experimental data obtained for quasi-static loading, and to use this model to study the mechanics of the particle response in detail. The Taguchi method was previously proposed as a viable calibration approach for discrete element models. In this work, the method was assessed for calibration of the model parameters （e.g., bond stiffnesses and strengths） considering three responses： the force at failure, strain at failure and agglomerate stiffness. The Weibull moduli for the simulation results and the experimental data were almost identical following calibration and the 37% characteristic stresses were similar. An analysis of the energy terms in the model provided useful insight into the model response. The bond energy and the normal force exerted on the platens were strongly correlated, and bond breakage events coincided with the highest energy dissipation rates.

A Dialectal Chinese Speech Recognition Framework

A framework for dialectal Chinese speech recognition is proposed and studied, in which a relatively small dialectal Chinese （or in other words Chinese influenced by the native dialect） speech corpus and dialect-related knowledge are adopted to transform a standard Chinese （or Putonghua, abbreviated as PTH） speech recognizer into a dialectal Chinese speech recognizer. Two kinds of knowledge sources are explored： one is expert knowledge and the other is a small dialectal Chinese corpus. These knowledge sources provide information at four levels： phonetic level, lexicon level, language level, and acoustic decoder level. This paper takes Wu dialectal Chinese （WDC） as an example target language. The goal is to establish a WDC speech recognizer from an existing PTH speech recognizer based on the Initial-Final structure of the Chinese language and a study of how dialectal Chinese speakers speak Putonghua. The authors propose to use contextindependent PTH-IF mappings （where IF means either a Chinese Initial or a Chinese Final）, context-independent WDC-IF mappings, and syllable-dependent WDC-IF mappings （obtained from either experts or data）, and combine them with the supervised maximum likelihood linear regression （MLLR） acoustic model adaptation method. To reduce the size of the multipronunciation lexicon introduced by the IF mappings, which might also enlarge the lexicon confusion and hence lead to the performance degradation, a Multi-Pronunciation Expansion （MPE） method based on the accumulated uni-gram probability （AUP） is proposed. In addition, some commonly used WDC words are selected and added to the lexicon. Compared with the original PTH speech recognizer, the resulting WDC speech recognizer achieves 10-18% absolute Character Error Rate （CER） reduction when recognizing WDC, with only a 0.62% CER increase when recognizing PTH. Autoimmune pancreatitis has emerged over the last 40 years from a proposed concept to a well established and recognized entity. As an efficient mimicker of pancreatic carcinoma, its early and appropriate recognition are crucial. With mounting understanding of its pathogenesis and natural history, significant advances have been made in the diagnosis of autoimmune pancreatitis. The characteristic laboratory features and imaging seen in autoimmune pancreatitis are reviewed along with some of the proposed diagnostic criteria and treatment algorithms.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a complex disorder that consists of upper airway obstruction, chronic intermittent hypoxia and sleep fragmentation. OSA is well known to be associated with hypoxia, insulin resistance and glucose intolerance, and these factors can occur in the presence or absence of obesity and metabolic syndrome. Although it is well established that insulin resistance, glucose intolerance and obesity occur frequently with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), it is now becoming apparent that hypoxia might also be important in the development of NAFLD, and it is recognized that there is increased risk of NAFLD with OSA. This review discusses the association between OSA, NAFLD and cardiovascular disease, and describes the potential role of hypoxia in the development of NAFLD with OSA.

This study evaluates the mediation role of taxpayer egoism in the nexus between tax evasion intention(TEI)and its *** is measured as a composite variable(for mediation in the PROCESS macro)and then as a latent variable(for mediation in Analysis of Moment Structure Software AMOS).Further,the stringent assumptions of mediation analysis by Baron and Kenny(Strategic,and Statistical Considerations 51:1173-1182,1986)are challenged via assertions by Hayes(Introduction to Mediation,Moderation and Conditional Process Analysis:A Regression-Based Approach,The Guilford Press,2018).The proxies for TEI are the respondents'ethical attitudes toward taxation Determinants of tax evasion intention are grouped into perceived behavioral control attitude and subjective norms as per theory of planned behavior(TPB)and extant *** detailed variables adopted from the literature include tax awareness,tax information,tax complexity,perceived power of authority,tax morals,tax fairness,and trust in government.A totalof 151 responses were collected Mediation analysis was done via bootstrapping in the PROCESS macro and through AMOS.A plethora of studies focus on determinants of tax evasion,tax compliance and their intentions However,none combine analysis via the two tools ***,few challenge the old way of conducting mediation analysis The data provide statistical support for egoism's mediation in the effect of four determinants on tax evasion *** further confirms that many of the old preconditions for mediation are unnecessary given modern-day bootstrapping *** into determinants of TEI and egoism have been provided However,this study uses cross-sectional data Future studies must use longitudinal data or experimental manipulation to infer more specific effects.

Uargathy Inlet is a small natural tidal inlet in the northern region ol the Virginia Darner island chain. It is 100 m wide with a throat cross-sectional area of 384m2 and an average tidal prism of 6.47 x 106 m3. The inside drainage system is 7.8 km long and 2.2km wide. The main channels comprise 5.8% of the area, shallow lagoons 19.8%, and Spartina marshes 74.4% in 1970. Over the period 1851 - 1989 the inlet narrowed and migrated northward while maintaining a weakening downdrift offset. The nearby barrier island coastline’s rapid retreat (average rate 4.78m /a, 138 years retreat 660 m) was accompanied by back barrier channel and lagoon filling and a decrease in intertidal water volume which was probably the main reason for the entrance narrowing. The northward migration of the inlet was related to the dredging of the Inside Passage (before 1949) and the breaching of southern Metompkin Island (since 1957) connected with the inlet system. This altered the interior tidal circulation and likely shifted
