Lipoxygenase(LOX)is an important contributor to the formation of aroma-active C6 aldehydes in apple(Malus×domestica)fruit upon tissue disruption but little is known about its role in autonomously produced aroma volatiles from intact *** explored the expression of 22 putative LOX genes in apple throughout ripening,but only six LOXs were expressed in a ripening-dependent *** LOX1:Md:1a,LOX1:Md:1c,LOX2:Md:2a and LOX2:Md:2b proteins showed 13/9-LOX,9-LOX,13/9-LOX and 13-LOX activity with linoleic acid,*** products of LOX1:Md:1c and LOX2:Md:2b were S-configured,LOX1:Md:1a and LOX2:Md:2a formed 13(R)-hydroperoxides as major ***-directed mutagenesis of Gly567 to an alanine converted the dual positional specific LOX1:Md:1a to an enzyme with a high specificity for 9(S)-hydroperoxide *** high expression level of the corresponding MdLOX1a gene in stored apple fruit,the genetic association with a quantitative trait locus for fruit ester and the remarkable agreement in regio-and stereoselectivity of the LOX1:Md:1a reaction with the overall LOX activity found in mature apple fruits,suggest a major physiological function of LOX1:Md:1a during climacteric ripening of *** LOX1:Md:1c,LOX2:Md:2a and LOX2:Md:2b may contribute to aldehyde production in immature fruit upon cell disruption our results furnish additional evidence that LOX1:Md:1a probably regulates the availability of precursors for ester production in intact fruit tissue.

Theoretical investigation on axial cyclic performance of monopile in sands using interface constitutive models

Cyclic loads generated by environmental factors,such as winds,waves,and trains,will likely lead to performance degradation in pile foundations,resulting in issues like permanent displacement accumulation and bearing capacity *** paper presents a semi-analytical solution for predicting the axial cyclic behavior of piles in *** solution relies on two enhanced nonlinear load-transfer models considering stress-strain hysteresis and cyclic degradation in the pile-soil *** parameters are calibrated through cyclic shear tests of the sand-steel interface and laboratory geotechnical testing of sands.A novel aspect involves the meticulous formulation of the shaft loadtransfer function using an interface constitutive model,which inherently inherits the interface model’s advantages,such as capturing hysteresis,hardening,degradation,and particle *** semi-analytical solution is computed numerically using the matrix displacement method,and the calculated values are validated through model tests performed on non-displacement and displacement piles in *** results demonstrate that the predicted values show excellent agreement with the measured values for both the static and cyclic responses of piles in *** displacement pile response,including factors such as bearing capacity,mobilized shaft resistance,and convergence rate of permanent settlement,exhibit improvements compared to non-displacement piles attributed to the soil squeezing *** methodology presents an innovative analytical framework,allowing for integrating cyclic interface models into the theoretical investigation of pile responses.

An Innovative Approach towards Selecting Aerobic and Coordinative Exercises in Clinical Practice for Children and Young People with ADHD

A growing body of studies and systematic reviews show evidence of the beneficial effects of physical exercise on core symptoms of ADHD. Furthermore, studies indicate that physical exercise as an adjuvant can enhance the effects of medication in the treatment of ADHD. Aerobic and coordinative exercises improve executive functioning through their effect on neurocognitive domains that are implicated in ADHD. It is postulated that through their specific modus operandi, aerobic exercise, by raising cortical arousal levels, improves impaired alerting functions whereas coordinative exercises improve the regulation of inhibitory control through the involvement of a higher variety of frontal-dependent cognitive processes. The increasing use of routine neurocognitive testing with continuous performance tests (CPT), such as the QbTest, at clinical assessments for ADHD allows for an innovative approach to identify the assessment impairments in alerting function and inhibition control that are related to ADHD and accordingly choose aerobic or coordinative physical exercise in a more targeted fashion.

Intrinsic charm production of doubly charmed baryons:Collider vs. fixed-target

The LHCb Collaboration has measured the doubly charmed baryon,■^++cc(ucc),through two different decay channels[1,2]in p+p collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7,8 and 13 *** they have performed similar searches for the doubly charmed baryon ■^+cc(dcc),it has not yet been observed by LHCb[3].However,the fixed-target experiment,SELEX,at Fermilab,reported the observation of the ■^+cc in two different decay channels with a 600 GeV charged hyperon beam[4,5].The beam was composed of an admixture of π^±,p,p components as well as the Σ^- *** discussion has arisen over the fact that the fixed-target observations have not been easily reproduced by the collider experiments at higher energies,where one might have expected the production rates to be much higher due to the orders of magnitude increase in the center of mass energy with LHCb.

Phenylpropanoid Biosynthesis

The general phenylpropanoid metabolism generates an enormous array of secondary metabolites based on the few intermediates of the shikimate pathway as the core unit. The resulting hydroxycinnamic acids and esters are am- plified in several cascades by a combination of reductases, oxygenases, and transferases to result in an organ and devel- opmentally specific pattern of metabolites, characteristic for each plant species. During the last decade, methodology driven targeted and non-targeted approaches in several plant species have enabled the identification of the participating enzymes of this complex biosynthetic machinery, and revealed numerous genes, enzymes, and metabolites essential for regulation and compartmentation. Considerable success in structural and computational biology, combined with the an- alytical sensitivity to detect even trace compounds and smallest changes in the metabolite, transcript, or enzyme pattern, has facilitated progress towards a comprehensive view of the plant response to its biotic and abiotic environment. Trans- genic approaches have been used to reveal insights into an apparently redundant gene and enzyme pattern required for functional integrity and plasticity of the various phenylpropanoid biosynthetic pathways. Nevertheless, the function and impact of all members of a gene family remain to be completely established. This review aims to give an update on the various facets of the general phenylpropanoid pathway, which is not only restricted to common lignin or flavonoid biosynthesis, but feeds into a variety of other aromatic metabolites like coumarins, phenolic volatiles, or hydrolyzable tannins.

Reducing the ever-growing level of CO_(2)in the atmosphere is critical for the sustainable development of human society in the context of global *** of the capture and upgrading of CO_(2)is,therefore,highly desirable since each process step is costly,both energetically and ***,we report a CO_(2)direct air capture(DAC)and fixation process that produces *** concentrations of CO_(2)(∼400 ppm)in the air are captured by an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide to form *** carbonate is subsequently hydrogenated to methane,which is easily separated from the reaction system,catalyzed by TiO2-supported Ru in the aqueous phase with a selectivity of 99.9%among gas-phase *** concurrent regenerated hydroxide,in turn,increases the alkalinity of the aqueous solution for further CO_(2)capture,thereby enabling this one-ofits-kind continuous CO_(2)capture and methanation *** simulations demonstrate the energy feasibility of this CO_(2)DAC and methanation process,highlighting its promise for potential largescale applications.

Phenotypic plasticity in the monoclonal marbled crayfish is associated with very low genetic diversity but pronounced epigenetic diversity

Clonal organisms are particularly useful to investigate the contribution of epigenetics to phenotypic plasticity,because confounding effects of genetic variation are *** the last decade,the apomictic parthenogenetic marbled crayfish,Procambarus virginalis,has been developed as a model to investigate the relationships between phenotypic plasticity and genetic and epigenetic diversity in *** crayfish originated about 30 years ago by autotriploidy from a single slough crayfish Procambarus *** the result of human releases and active spreading,marbled crayfish has established numerous populations in very diverse habitats in 22 countries from the tropics to cold temperate *** in the laboratory and field revealed considerable plasticity in coloration,spination,morphometric parameters,growth,food preference,population structure,trophic position,and niche *** and PacBio whole-genome sequencing of marbled crayfish from representatives of 19 populations in Europe and Madagascar demonstrated extremely low genetic diversity within and among populations,indicating that the observed phenotypic diversity and ability to live in strikingly different environments are not due to adaptation by selection on genetic *** contrast,considerable differences were found between populations in the DNA methylation patterns of hundreds of genes,suggesting that the environmentally induced phenotypic plasticity is mediated by epigenetic mechanisms and corresponding changes in gene *** DNA methylation fingerprints persisted in local populations over successive years indicating the existence of epigenetic ecotypes,but there is presently no information as to whether these epigenetic signatures are transgenerationally inherited or established anew in each generation and whether the recorded phenotypic plasticity is adaptive or nonadaptive.

Arthropod prey of imported fire ants （Hymenoptera： Formicidae） in Mississippi sweetpotato fields

The red imported fire ants, Solenopsis invicta （Buren）, are generally considered pests. They have also been viewed as beneficial predators feeding on other insect pests of various agroecosystems. This study documents the foraging habits of fire ants in a sweetpotato field in Mississippi. Fire ant foraging trails connecting outside colonies to a sweetpotato field were exposed and foraging ants moving out of the field toward the direction of the colony were collected along with the solid food particles they were carrying. The food material was classified as arthropod or plant in origin. The arthropod particles were identified to orders. Fire ant foragers carried more arthropods than plant material. Coleoptera and Homoptera were the most abundant groups preyed upon. These insect orders contain various economically important pests of sweetpotato. Other major hexapod groups included the orders Hemiptera, Diptera and Collembola. The quantity of foraged material varied over the season. No damage to sweetpotato roots could be attributed to fire ant feeding. Imported fire ant foraging may reduce the number of insect pests in sweetpotato fields.

The concept of the King George Island Expert GIS (KGI_XGIS) is ***_XGIS is a combination of a rule_based expert system and a GIS meant to form an intelligent spatial decision support *** system provides the spatial knowledge necessary for the environmental impact assessment process as dictated by the ’Madrid Protocol’ for King George Island (South Shetland Islands,Antarctica).It also serves as information system to the scientific user *** maps,remote sensing data,thematic maps based on field surveys and other digital data form the input data to the *** the sparseness of the available data these must be combined and used in the most efficient *** expert knowledge of different domains will be coded into a rule_based expert system which is coupled to the *** handle the expert knowledge and the spatial data of different types and different quality the KGI_XGIS incorporates knowledge_based techniques and fuzzy *** selection of a camp site on the ice free area of Fildes Peninsula and data quality management are used as two examples to demonstrate the capabilities of the system.
