Associations of self-reported and device-assessed physical activity with fatigue,quality of life,and sleep quality in adults living with and beyond cancer

Background Greater physical activity is associated with improved outcomes in people living with and beyond cancer.However,most studies in exercise oncology use self-reported measures of physical activity.Few have explored agreement between self-reported and device-based measures of physical activity in people living with and beyond cancer.This study aimed to describe physical activity in adults affected by cancer across self-reported and device-assessed activity,to explore levels of agreement between these measures in terms of their utility for categorizing participants as meeting/not meeting physical activity guidelines,and to explore whether meeting guidelines is associated with fatigue,quality of life,and sleep quality.Methods A total of 1348 adults living with and beyond cancer from the Advancing Survivorship Cancer Outcomes Trial completed a survey assessing fatigue,quality of life,sleep quality,and physical activity.The Godin-Shephard Leisure-Time Physical Activity Questionnaire was used to calculate a Leisure Score Index(LSI)and an estimate of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity(MVPA).Average daily steps and weekly aerobic steps were derived from pedometers worn by participants.Results The percentage of individuals meeting physical activity guidelines was 44.3%using LSI,49.5%using MVPA,10.8%using average daily steps,and 28.5%using weekly aerobic steps.Agreement(Cohen'sκ)between self-reported and pedometer measures ranged from 0.13(LSI vs.average daily steps)to 0.60(LSI vs.MVPA).After adjusting for sociodemographic and health-related covariates,meeting activity guidelines using all measures was associated with not experiencing severe fatigue(odds ratios(ORs):1.43–1.97).Meeting guidelines using MVPA was associated with no quality-of-life issues(OR=1.53).Meeting guidelines using both self-reported measures were associated with good sleep quality(ORs:1.33–1.40).Conclusion Less than half of all adults affected by cancer are meeting physical activity guidelines,regardless of measure.Meeting guidelines is asso

Invasive grade III and IV maliguant gliomas remain difficult to treat with a typical survival time post-diagnosis hovering around 16 months with only minor extension thereof seen in the past decade,whereas some improvements have been obtained towards five-year survival rates for which completeness of resection is a prerequisite.Optical techniques such as fluorescence guided resection(FGR)and photodynamic therapy(PDT)are promising adjuvant techniques to in-crease the tumor volume reduction fraction.PDT has been used in combination with surgical resection or alternatively as standalone treat ment strategy with some sucoess in extending the median survival time of patients compared to surgery alone and the current standard of care.This document reviews the outcome of past clinical trials and highlights the general shift in PDT therapeutic approaches.It also looks at the current approaches for interstitial PDT and research options into increasing PDT's glioma treatment fficacy through exploiting both physical and biological based approaches to maximize PDT selectivity and therapeutic index,particularly in brain adjacent to tumor(BAT).Potential reasons for failing to demonstrate a significant survival advantage in prior PDT clinical trials will become evident in light of the improved understanding of glioma biology and PDT dosimetry.

Introduction Many behavioral,ecological,and evolutionary processes are closely intertwined with patterns of social interactions,such as the evolution of cooperation(Croft et al.2006),information and disease transmission(VanderWaal et al.2014;Aplin et al.2015),predator-prey dynamics(Ioannou et al.2012),and dispersal decisions(Blumstein et al.2009).Even in species where individuals are traditionally viewed as leading a relatively solitary existence,interac-tions occur across diverse contexts,including territorial defense,resource competition,and courtship.

快速城镇化带来的噪声、环境污染和犯罪率上升对城市居民的身心健康形成威胁，而城市中的蓝绿空间已被证明是降低健康风险的良方。“注意力恢复理论（Attention Restoration Theory,ART）”“压力恢复理论（Stress Reduction Theory,SRT）”“亲自然假说（Biophilia）”等几种主流理论解释了蓝绿空间对健康福祉的益处。大量的实证研究验证了这些假说，但生物多样性对人类福祉的促进作用仍不清晰，各种研究中结论的不一致性以及变量测度的差异性使得对现有研究成果的解读变得复杂。

AIM To characterize incidence and risk factors for delayed gastric emptying(DGE) following pancreaticoduodenectomy and examine its implications on healthcare utilization. METHODS A prospectively-maintained database was reviewed. DGE was classified using International Study Group of Pancreatic Surgery criteria. Patients who developed DGE and those who did not were compared. RESULTS Two hundred and seventy-six patients underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy(PD)(> 80% pyloruspreserving, antecolic-reconstruction). DGE developed in 49 patients(17.8%): 5.1% grade B, 3.6% grade C. Demographic, clinical, and operative variables were similar between patients with DGE and those without. DGE patients were more likely to present multiplecomplications(32.6% vs 4.4%, ≥ 3 complications, P < 0.001), including postoperative pancreatic fistula(POPF)(42.9% vs 18.9%, P = 0.001) and intra-abdominal abscess(IAA)(16.3% vs 4.0%, P = 0.012). Patients with DGE had longer hospital stay(median, 12 d vs 7 d, P < 0.001) and were more likely to require transitional care upon discharge(24.5% vs 6.6%, P < 0.001). On multivariate analysis, predictors for DGE included POPF [OR = 3.39(1.35-8.52), P = 0.009] and IAA [OR = 1.51(1.03-2.22), P = 0.035].CONCLUSION Although DGE occurred in < 20% of patients after PD, it was associated with increased healthcare utilization. Patients with POPF and IAA were at risk for DGE. Anticipating DGE can help individualize care and allocate resources to high-risk patients.

Estimation of cotton yield with varied irrigation and nitrogen treatments using aerial multispectral imagery

Cotton yield varies spatially within a field.The variability can be caused by various production inputs such as soil properties,water management,and fertilizer application.Airborne multispectral imaging is capable of providing data and information to study effects of the inputs on yield qualitatively and quantitatively in a timely and cost-effective fashion.A 10-ha cotton field with irrigation and non-irrigation 2×2 blocks was used in this study.Six nitrogen application treatments were randomized with two replications within each block.As plant canopy was closed,airborne multispectral images of the field were acquired using a 3-CCD MS4100 camera.The images were processed to generate various vegetation indices.The vegetation indices were evaluated for the best performance to characterize yield.The effect of irrigation on vegetation indices was significant.Models for yield estimation were developed and verified by comparing the estimated and actual yields.Results indicated that ratio of vegetation index(RVI)had a close relationship with yield(R^(2)=0.47).Better yield estimation could be obtained using a model with RVI and soil electrical conductivity(EC)measurements of the field as explanatory variables(R^(2)=0.53).This research demonstrates the capability of aerial multispectral remote sensing in estimating cotton yield variation and considering soil properties and nitrogen.

Forensic Scientists increasingly face challenges when testifying about pattern evidence.“Pattern evidence”here denotes fingerprint evidence,firearms,tool marks,footwear,tire impressions,handwriting,bite marks,etc.Critics question whether experts using only subjec-tive information can provide the court with reliable information.Detractors maintain that objective data,meaning statistics,is necessary for the expert to form an opinion in court cases.Some critics have used the depreciatory term“junk science”to suggest that certain forensic science disciplines have little or no validity and should no longer be used.

We report a study of the roles of gadolinium(lll)(Gd3+)dopants in influencing the catalytic activity of gadolinium-doped ceria nanoparticles towards the pro-oxidation of hydrogen peroxide to hydroxyl radicals.These doped ceria nanoparticles with dopant concentrations of 0.6 wt.%,3 wt.%,and 6 wt.%Gd^3+were synthesized using an ozone-mediated method for tuning their catalytic activities.The Gd dopants were found to foster an increase in the percentage of Ce^3+ions in the doped ceria nanoparticles.Our reaction kinetic study revealed that the relationship between the overall reaction rates and the Gd dopant concentrations in our doped materials followed a volcano-like trend.In contrast,the apparent activation energy values of these Gd-doped ceria nanoparticles were found to be positively associated with the concentrations of Gd dopants.The overall catalytic activity trend was attributed to the interplay between the promotion and degradation effects of the Gd dopants on the properties of doped ceria nanoparticles.
