Extract of Yokukansan improves anxiety-like behavior and increases serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor in rats with cerebral ischemia combined with amyloid-β42 peptide

OBJECTIVE: To examine the effects of Yokukansan(YKS) extract on two endogenous modulators of anxiety, brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF)and serotonin (5-HT)_(2A) receptors pharmacologically, in the ischemic rat model of ***: The cerebral ischemia(CI) was induced by bilateral occlusion of the vertebral and common carotid arteries(4-vessel occlusion ischemia). The CI was combined with the amyloid-β42 peptide(A42) injected intracerebroventricularly, and referreβdto as CI+Aβ. Anxiety-like behaviors were assessed by elevated plus maze(enclosed arm), light/dark transition test(dark chamber), and open-field ***-dog shakes were induced by the 5-HT_(2A) receptor agonist 2, 5-dimethoxy-4-iodoamphetamine(DOI). The concentration of BDNF in serum was determined by enzyme-linked immuno sorbent ***: CI + Aβ increased anxiety, as demonstrated by the increase of time spent in the enclosed arms and dark chambers, and locomotion in the outer zone of the open field(thigmotaxis). CI + Adecreased the serum concentration of BDNF. YKS reβ-duced the anxiety-like behaviors, suppressed the DOI-induced wet-dog shakes and increased serum BDNF ***: Our findings suggest that YKS extract improves CI + Aβ-induced anxiety by antagonizing 5-HT_(2A) receptors and increasing BDNF.

Effect of Varenicline on Detrusor Overactivity in Rat Model of Parkinson’s Disease Induced by Intranigral 6-Hydroxydopamine

Background: Parkinson disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by both motor and non-motor symptoms. Bladder dysfunction is the common non-motor symptom of PD, most often presenting with detrusor overactivity (DO). Treatment of DO is currently limited, poorly tolerated and sometimes ineffective. Bladder responses are not only mediated by muscarinic cholinergic receptors (mAChR) but also by nicotinic cholinergic receptors (nAChR). However, nicotinic receptor subtypes and functions in the bladder are not clearly identified. Purpose: This study aimed at investigating the effect of varenicline, an alpha7 full agonist and alpha4beta2/alpha3 partial agonist, on detrusor strips in rat PD model induced by substantia nigra injection of 6-hydroxydopamine. Method: The detrusor activity was studied in an isolated organ bath system. Results: In PD group, the detrusor activity was increased, whereas varenicline decreased the DO. Conclusion: alpha7 nAChR agonists may have therapeutic potential in treatment of bladder overactivity in PD.

Status and prospects for symmetric organic redox flow batteries

As environmental concerns from fossil fuel consumption intensify, large-scale energy storage becomes imperative for the integration of renewable sources like wind, hydro, and solar with the electrical *** flow batteries, particularly those employing organic molecules, are positioned as a key technology for this purpose. This review explores the growing field of symmetric organic redox flow batteries(ORFBs) within this context. Unlike traditional asymmetric designs based on unique active materials for each electrode, symmetric ORFBs involve a single bipolar species for both electrodes. This review highlights the benefits of a symmetric design, and categorizes five distinct classes of organic bipolar molecules used in both aqueous and non-aqueous solvents. By providing a comprehensive overview of their cell cycling and performance characteristics, the strengths and weaknesses of the diverse categories of bipolar molecules are highlighted for both solvent systems, as are opportunities for future development. This should guide new research directions and advance the development of practical symmetric ORFBs.

Nanosecond pulse and dual-wavelength Q-switched 1.5 μm fiber laser using MAX phase Cr2TialC2 saturable absorber

We demonstrated a new type of MAX phase material, chromium titanium aluminum carbide（Cr2TialC2） polymer film, to generate a passively Q-switched erbium-doped fiber laser（EDFL）. The film thickness was measured to be around 45 μm, which was fabricated using the embedding method with polyvinyl alcohol（PVA） polymer as hoster. The saturable absorber（SA） film demonstrates a dual-wavelength passively Q-switched EDFL which operates at 1 531 nm and 1 560.19 nm, respectively. The Q-switching pulse duration could be varied from 2.46 μs to 770 ns, while the repetition rate varied from 92.76 kHz to 106.6 kHz with an increasing input pumping range from 154 mW to 300 mW. The maximum output power and pulse energy of 15.05 mW and 141.18 nJ were obtained at the maximum input power of 300 mW, respectively.

Comparative chemical sensor for detection of chromium(Ⅵ) in aqueous solution

A process for purifying aqueous solutions containing heavy and toxic metals such as chromium（Cr） has been investigated. One of the extremely harmful pollutants in rivers and seawater is the heavy metal ions due to their direct impacts on human, animals and plants are hexavalent Cr（Ⅵ）. Consequently, highly sensitive sensor to detect Cr is essential. Surface plasmon resonance（SPR） technique has attracted huge research interest in detecting heavy metals specifically. In this study, three types of prism-based SPR sensor, gold（Au）/silver（Ag）, Au/polyaniline（PANI） and Au/titanium dioxide（TiO2） nanostructured films, are investigated as potential sensing material to detect the presence of Cr（Ⅵ） ions in water. The base Au layer with thickness of 48.3 nm is deposited on a glass slide for all sensors. For Au/Ag, Au/PANI nanofibers and Au/TiO2sensor films, the Cr（Ⅵ） concentration is varied from 1 ppm to 15 ppm with sensitivity of 0.270 °ppm-1, 0.082 °ppm-1and 0.039 °ppm-1, respectively. Based on these results, the Au/PANI nanofibers are the most sensitive to Cr（Ⅵ） among the tested sensing materials.

TAU is a microtubule-associated protein that promotes microtubule assembly and stability in the *** is missorted and aggregated in an array of diseases known as *** are essential for neuronal function and regulated via a complex set of post-translational modifications,changes of which affect microtubule stability and dynamics,microtubule interaction with other proteins and cellular structures,and mediate recruitment of microtubule-severing *** impairment of microtubule dynamics causes neuronal dysfunction,we hypothesize cognitive impairment in human disease to be impacted by impairment of microtubule *** therefore aimed to study the effects of a disease-causing mutation of TAU(P301L)on the levels and localization of microtubule post-translational modifications indicative of microtubule stability and dynamics,to assess whether P301L-TAU causes stability-changing modifications to *** investigate TAU localization,phosphorylation,and effects on tubulin post-translational modifications,we expressed wild-type or P301L-TAU in human MAPT-KO induced pluripotent stem cell-derived neurons(i Neurons)and studied TAU in neurons in the hippocampus of mice transgenic for human P301L-TAU(p R5 mice).Human neurons expressing the longest TAU isoform(2N4R)with the P301L mutation showed increased TAU phosphorylation at the AT8,but not the p-Ser-262 epitope,and increased polyglutamylation and acetylation of microtubules compared with endogenous TAU-expressing neurons.P301L-TAU showed pronounced somatodendritic presence,but also successful axonal enrichment and a similar axodendritic distribution comparable to exogenously expressed 2N4R-wildtype-TAU.P301L-TAU-expressing hippocampal neurons in transgenic mice showed prominent missorting and tauopathy-typical AT8-phosphorylation of TAU and increased polyglutamylation,but reduced acetylation,of microtubules compared with non-transgenic *** sum,P301L-TAU results in changes in micr

Improved Software Implementation for Montgomery Elliptic Curve Cryptosystem

The last decade witnessed rapid increase in multimedia and other applications that require transmitting and protecting huge amount of data streams *** such applications,a high-performance cryptosystem is compulsory to provide necessary security *** curve cryptosystem(ECC)has been introduced as a considerable ***,the usual sequential implementation of ECC and the standard elliptic curve(EC)form cannot achieve required performance ***,the widely used Hardware implementation of ECC is costly option and may be not *** research aims to develop a high-performance parallel software implementation for *** achieve this,many experiments were performed to examine several factors affecting ECC performance including the projective coordinates,the scalar multiplication algorithm,the elliptic curve(EC)form,and the parallel *** ECC performance was analyzed using the different factors to tune-up them and select the best choices to increase the speed of the *** results illustrated that parallel Montgomery ECC implementation using homogenous projection achieves the highest performance level,since it scored the shortest time delay for ECC *** addition,results showed thatNAF algorithm consumes less time to perform encryption and scalar multiplication operations in comparison withMontgomery ladder and *** multi-threading technique was adopted to implement ECC computations in *** proposed multithreaded Montgomery ECC implementation significantly improves the performance level compared to previously presented parallel and sequential implementations.

The demand for the telecommunication services,such as IP telephony,has increased dramatically during the COVID-19 pandemic *** tele-phony should be enhanced to provide the expected *** of the issues that should be investigated in IP telephony is bandwidth *** telephony pro-duces very small speech samples attached to a large packet *** header of the IP telephony consumes a considerable share of the bandwidth allotted to the IP *** wastes the network's bandwidth and inﬂuences the IP telephony *** paper proposes a mechanism(called Smallerize)that reduces the bandwidth consumed by both the speech sample and the *** is achieved by assembling numerous IP telephony packets in one header and use the header'sﬁelds to carry the speech *** metrics have been used to measure the achievement Smallerize *** number of calls has been increased by 245.1%compared to the typical *** bandwidth saving has also reached 68%with the G.28 ***,Smallerize is a possible mechanism to enhance bandwidth utilization of the IP telephony.

This paper introduces a new enhanced Arabic stemming algorithm for solving the information retrieval problem,especially in medical *** proposed algorithm is a light stemming algorithm for extracting stems and roots from the input *** of the main challenges facing the light stemming algorithm is cutting off the input word,to extract the initial *** initiating the light stemmer with strong initial segments,the final extracting stems and roots will be more ***,a new enhanced segmentation based on deploying the Direct Acyclic Graph(DAG)model is *** addition to extracting the powerful initial segments,the main two procedures(i.e.,stems and roots extraction),should be also reinforced with more efficient operators to improve the final *** validate the proposed enhanced stemmer,four data sets are *** achieved stems and roots resulted from our proposed light stemmer are compared with the results obtained from five other well-known Arabic light stemmers using the same data *** evaluation process proved that the proposed enhanced stemmer outperformed other comparative stemmers.
