Memory Improvement by Yokukansankachimpihange and Atractylenolide III in the Olfactory Bulbectomized Mice

Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) shows cognitive dysfunction as core symptoms and Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD). Since acetylcholine nerve system derived from septum is collapsed in the AD patients, we have used Olfactory Bulbectomized (OBX) mice whose cholinergic system is largely impaired in the septum. Recently, Yokukansankachimpihange (YKH), a traditional Japanese Kampo medicine has used for BPSD in addition to improve cognitive dysfunction in AD patients. However the essential components for cognition and BPSD improvement and their mechanism are largely unknown. In present study, we found that Atractylenolide III (Aen-III), one of the components of YKH, improved cognitive deficits and depression in the OBX mice. OBX mice were orally administered with Aen-III (1.0 and 3.0 mg/kg) and YKH extracts daily for 18 days. Like YKH extracts, the Aen-III treatments ameliorated cognitive deficits and depression-like behavior observed in OBX mice. Importantly, Aen-III administration significantly restored the decreases in Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) autophosphorylation and phosphorylation of Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase IV (CaMKIV) and cyclic AMP response element binding protein (CREB). The restoration of CaMKII and CaMKIV signaling is closely related to the increased BDNF levels. Furthermore, ATP reduction in OBX mice was rescued by Aen-III (3.0 mg/kg) and YKH (1000 mg/kg) treatment. In summary, Aen-III as a component of YKH ameliorates cognitive dysfunctions and depression via restoring CaMKII and CaMKIV signaling.

Retrospective Survey on Mesiodens and Corresponding Odontoparallaxis in Japanese Children

Supernumerary tooth in the upper central incisor region is called mesiodens. Mesiodens causes serious complications such as displacement, retarded eruption, and rotation in the adjacent permanent incisors, inducing inhibition of oral development. This report was aimed to provide epidemiology of mesiodens in Japanese children. Using dental record, panoramic radiographs and images of cone-beam computed tomography in 128 non-syndromic child patients, patients’ age at their first visit, gender composition, shape of mesiodens, position of mesiodens, posture of mesiodens, and age distribution of the patients based on each complication were investigated. In addition to the survey, patient age was compared between the groups with and without each complication. Patients’ age ranged 3 - 10 years old. Male-to-female ratio was approximately 3:1. Conical shape (75%) and inverted position (49%) were the most frequent among the patients. Displacement was the commonest complication. Age comparison indicated that patients with displacement or retarded eruption consulted the dentist younger than those without the complications. The present study provided etiology of mesiodens in Japanese children that will contribute to daily clinical practice in the field of pediatric dentistry.

A case of a patient positive for anti-cardiolipin antibodies with recurrent fetal wastage and cerebral infarction who was successfully treated with Sairei-to, low dose aspirin, and heparin

We report a successful case of a pregnant female positive for anti-cardiolipin antibodies who experienced two abnormal pregnancies with postpartum cerebral hemispheric infarctions. A 38-year-old female diagnosed as being positive for anti-cardiolipin antibodies was referred to our hospital due to her strong desire to have a baby. The administration of Japanese herbal medicine, Sairei-to, as immunosuppressive therapy, and low dose aspirin, as anti-coagulation therapy, were initiated prior to the patient’s pregnancy. Five months after beginning the treatment, the patient conceived spontaneously. At 34 weeks of gestation, emergency cesarean section was performed due to increasing genital bleeding resulting from coincidental placenta previa and the patient delivered an appropriate-for-date female infant (1970 g). Treatment with Japanese herbal medicine (Sairei-to) and low-dose aspirin is considered to be an effective treatment option for patients positive for anti-phospholipid antibodies with past histories of abnormal pregnancies.

Relationship between muscle strength and anthropometric, body composition parameters in Japanese adolescents

We investigated the link between muscle strength and anthropometric, body composition parameters in Japanese adolescents. Forty eight men and 189 women, aged 15 - 19 years, were enrolled in this cross-sectional investigation study. Anthropometric and body composition parameters i.e. height, body weight, abdominal circumference, hip circumference and body fat percentage were measured. Muscle strength i.e. grip strength and leg strength were also evaluated. In men, grip strength was positively correlated with height and lean body mass. Leg strength was significantly correlated with height, body weight, hip circumference and lean body mass (r = 0.708). However, leg strength per body weight was negatively correlated with body mass index (BMI), abdominal circumference, hip circumference, body fat percentage (r = –0.719) and body fat mass. In women, grip strength was positively correlated with height. Leg strength was positively correlated with lean body mass (r = 0.482). Leg strength per body weight was negatively correlated with body fat percentage (r = –0.457) and body fat mass. Grip and leg strength was positively correlated with height and lean body mass, especially in men. However, leg strength per body weight was closely linked to body fat percentage in both sexes.

Fatal hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis presenting as Reye’s syndrome: Report of two cases

We report two cases of rapidly fatal hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) that presented as Reye’s syndrome (RS). The patients were referred to our hospital because of altered level of consciousness with hyperammonemia and hypoglycemia. The first patient, a 24-month-old girl (Case 1), died soon after arrival and was clinically diagnosed as having RS, but a diagnosis of HLH was established on the basis of autopsy findings. The other patient, a 4-month-old boy (Case 2), was diagnosed as having HLH in view of the bone marrow findings on admission, but immunosuppressive therapy failed to prevent a rapidly fatal course. Marked hypercytokinemia was found in both patients, and liver pathology demonstrated panlobular microvesicular steatosis of hepatocytes, resembling that in RS. Mononuclear cell infiltration with hemophagocytosis in the liver was evident in case 2, but not in case 1. In both cases, hypercytokinemia was thought to have caused mitochondrial dysfunction, resulting in RS-like microvesicular steatosis of hepatocytes. HLH is an important differential diagnosis of children presenting with RS-like picture.

日本学习者在汉语“听”与“说”的方面,问题较多,尤其是汉语鼻韵母对日本学习者来说困难较大。日语中前后鼻韵母都属于拔音,然而汉语鼻韵母可以分为前鼻韵母与后鼻韵母的两种,所有汉语词汇中含有鼻韵母的汉字占全体汉字的48%。日本汉语学习者在听力与发音上有很大的困难,给交流沟通带来不少的麻烦。从前人研究可知,鼻韵母发音偏误是日语的母语负迁移导致的,其中最大的区别是发音能力方面,日本汉语学习者在发音前后鼻韵母时张口度与发音部位不准确。并且在听辨能力方面也有困难,日本母语者的前鼻韵母听辨能力高于后鼻韵母听辨能力。但这一现象也可能是因为在无法分辨前后鼻韵尾的情况下,学习者将听到的韵尾归为前鼻韵尾。目前有关鼻韵母偏误的研究论文相对较少,而且每个鼻韵母偏误的原因因人而异。本文鉴于前人的研究,通过针对鼻韵母偏误进行了不同汉语水平(初级Ⅰ、初级Ⅱ、中级、高级Ⅰ、高级II)的日本学习者的感知听辨实验,从而确定鼻韵母发音偏误的问题,可以用来帮助日本汉语教学,提高针对日本汉语学习者的鼻韵母偏误纠正方法的有效性。研究结果显示,一是日本汉语学习者在前后鼻韵母单音节听辨能力上没有大的困难。二是从不同汉语水平被试的正确率来看,除了ong/eng韵母组的听辨能力随着汉语学习时长的增加而提高,其他前后鼻韵母组的听辨在不同学习水平中没有统计意义上的差异,即没有表现出听辨能力与学习时长或汉语水平的相关性。最后,基于研究结果,本论文探讨了针对日本汉语学习者的前后鼻韵母发音教学教材的改进方案,例如在教堂上积极选用电影或新闻节目等说地道汉语的影视作为教材,教师可以采用视听说法培养学生的听力与口语的两个不同方面能力。

Effect of Post-ERCP Pancreatitis on Perioperative Factors of Pancreaticoduodenectomy

Background:?Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is commonly performed for biliary drainage and examination of the biliary and pancreatic duct before pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD). The influence of preoperative post-ERCP pancreatitis on PD is unknown. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relation between post-ERCP pancreatitis before PD and surgical outcomes of PD. Methods: We examined 38 patients who underwent PD. The relations between post-ERCP pancreatitis before PD and perioperative factors of PD such as patient characteristics, operative findings, and postoperative course were evaluated with univariate and multivariate analyses. Results: Post-ERCP pancreatitis was observed in 12 (37.5%) of the 38 patients. Univariate analyses showed operative procedure (P?= 0.034), operation time (P?= 0.004), blood loss (P?= 0.031), C-reactive protein (P?= 0.043), and delayed gastric emptying (P?= 0.035) to be significantly associated with post-ERCP pancreatitis. Multivariate analyses showed operation time (OR, 1.017;?95%CI, 1.000 - 1.034;?P?= 0.049) and delayed gastric emptying (OR, 18.72;95%CI, 1.139 - 307.6;?P?= 0.040) to be significantly associated with post-ERCP pancreatitis. Conclusions: Post-ERCP pancreatitis was associated with prolonged operation time and delayed gastric emptying in patients undergoing PD.

1.(1)Objective:It has been well documented that the GATA3 gene is a potential tumor marker and putative tumour suppressor gene in breast *** expression is associated with better prognosis and disease free survival in breast cancer ***,the role of GATA3 in bladder cancer remains *** this study,we are going to assess whether loss of GATA3 affected the invasion metastasisand proliferation of bladder cancer cells.(2)methods:First,we evaluated the expression of GATA3 in bladder cancer cells compared with nonneoplasm urothelium *** we silence the GATA3 by using shRNA vector and tested the influence of GATA3 in the bladder cancer cell invasion and migration ability by wound healing assay and transwell invasion ***,we employed gelatin zymography and QRT-PCR to explore the activity and expression of MMP-2/*** also identify the EMT containing N-cadherine and β-***,we applied MTT assay to examine whether loss of GATA3 effected the bladder cancer cell proliferation and WB to check the expression of genes rrelated to cell growth.(3)results:GATA3 was down-regulated in bladder cancer cells compared with benign urothelium cell ***,we found loss of GATA3 promoted bladder cancer cells migration and invasion,increased the expression and activity of MMP-2/9 *** contrast,GATA3 has no effect on cell proliferation.(4)conclusion:GATA3 inhibited the bladder cancer cells invasion and migration while not effected cells *** together,GATA3 may attenuate bladder cancer metastasis by down-regulating MMP-2/9 and disruption of EMT but not cell growth.

通过对两种高速发动机及其它机器工作状况的试验研究,证实由高碳有机物组成的机油添加剂在减少摩擦损失方面的作用。并且通过淬硬弹簧钢试验研究了试件和淬火油(含机油添加剂)之间热传导系数的变化情况。
